Art Major Deliberately Gets Pregnant, Induces Abortions/Miscarriages In Order to Collect Fetal Blood... To Use for Art Display

"Edgy."

Insanity and evil often are, you know.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts (pictured) will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body.

She artificially inseminated herself? Why would she need to do that?

Oh. Ohhhhhh.

When talent is absent, use outrage to fill the void.

I'm not especially anti-abortion but this suggests some serious psychosis. But then, so does the choice of art as a major.

7 Ah, the left.

The side of the political spectrum which considers "dehumanization" of the enemy in war time to be the worst possible thing.

But the cold blooded murder of a human fetus for simple matters of economic convenience or, hell, it would appear even for the amusement of the general public, to be all in good fun.

My wife and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years and, after finally succeeding about 6 months ago, she had a miscarriage. It tore us up emotionally for months. This useless bit of carbon seems to get pleasure from inducing them.

Sick just isn't adequate to describe this.

21 Yea, we had to spend a fortune to get our two with fertility treatment. It took years but through tears and treatment we made it happen.

This narcissist is going to have a bright future in the fringe art community.

I have a friend who teaches art at a college in Arizona and he said the goal of most young artists is to be the next controversial artist that people talk about. That way they will be discovered and have relevance. There is very little real talent and mostly just narcissistic brats who crave attention of any kind.

I have many friends who are real artists and they make good livings off of selling their pieces. They wouldn't dream about doing something like this. It would kill their careers and they would alienate their buyers. A person such as this narcissist is shooting for a life of living off the public teat, in academia, or through grants.

I could be wrong though, this is just my opinion.

23 Guy - been there.  Fetus never developed a heartbeat - essentially had to be aborted though it was already dead - can't imagine wife and me going through that horror again, let alone by choice.   Abort her now, save the species.

24 WTF? Regardless of my stance on abortion (which is that it is a necessary evil and not to be done lightly or on a whim) I am stunned by this 'artist's' actions. It is beyond outrageous and into she needs to see a doctor b/c she is suffering from some sort of mental disorder. Where were her prof's on this one? Would she need to state the basis and manner of her project before doing it. How is she getting artificial insemination? An Ivy League education at its finest.

From the article, even the hardcore pro-choice people were outraged, and rightly so.

Without too much detail on my life, my wife had a miscarriage and then our younger son died after only a few days of life. My wife and I were shattered. For us, our son and potential daughter (my wife is just past 25 weeks pregnant) are our finest and proudest achievements in our lives. That this bint can, for "art", do this unspeakably evil act, is nauseating.

I know there are claims that there are herbal drugs that will cause a miscarriage but if this was even remotely true, they would be well known. Of course, if you take a severely toxic drug you might induce a miscarriage but that would only be a side affect of you dying.

Yes there are abortifacient herbal teas, and they're not necessarily sold as such. Any woman who is pregnant should avoid pennyroyal, and in general, just stay away from any herbal remedies of any sort. I researched this before I got pregnant, and developed a huge long list of things to avoid.

At my undergrad college, there was a history prof who researched herbal medicines of the European medieval period, and he found various herbal medications affecting pregnancy and fertility in midwives' pharmacopia, and many did actually work.

43 Yeah, but if she had an abortion, the doc does not give it back to you. She is somehow self inducing and there are herbs out there that can do it. Wikipedia has an article on it and asserts that examples of herbal abortifacients "include brewer's yeast,[2] vitamin C,[3] wild carrot, black cohosh, slippery elm, pennyroyal, nutmeg, mugwort, papaya, vervain, common rue, and tansy." She may not be able to buy such a drug, but pop enough of these things and there ya' go.

46 Sorry, I just don't buy into it , meep. Again, yes you can poison yourself to the point of having a miscarriage as a side effect of your near death. But she is claiming she is getting knocked up, swallowing the pills, miscarrying, repeat several times. Also, even with a spontaneous miscarriage there are side effects. She's just full of shit and trying to get a rise out of every one which evidentially she did.

There is no such thing as otc herbal abortifacient drugs.

Pennyroyal, rue and, to a lesser extent, juniper and yarrow have been known to induce strong enough contractions to cause miscarriage in pregnant women.

Man, you need to post a picture or two of your own standard conquests, just for comparison.

Cuz I'd hit that thing like a priapetic monkey hopped up on viagra and methanphetamines.

I'll be honest.  Most the the women I've hit were kinda ugly.  But I'm cool with that.  You know why?

Because I'm a real heterosexual man.  Yeah, sure, any closeted homosexual can have sex with some hot waif-like chick with a great style and an ability to accessorize.

But it takes a real heterosexual to willing have sex with the fat, ugly ones with the bad attitudes and questionable hygene.  You know, the ones that you say you have to "roll them in flour and look for the wet spont."  That takes guts, determination, and a "will not give up" attitude.

Dare I say it, the heart of a champion.

Saw an exhibit in the Hirschhorn Gallery a couple weeks ago. A lesbian had carved the names of 400 friends who'd died of AIDS into her body, blotted each name with a 3x5 card, and hung the lot as her "testament sculpture." The post-art photo of her was freaky, needless to say.

Not as puerile as this lil' treasure's contribution to "the discussion," but weird all the same.

Conclusion: Art is weird.

Posted by: railwriter at April 17, 2008 12:12 PM (/ZX77)

53 but pop enough of these things and there ya' go.

You'd have to pop enough of that stuff to endanger your own health.  Most of these abortificients, like black cohosh, are very iffy at best and the rest, like nutmeg or pennyroyal, you'd have to take in dangerous amounts to induce abortions.   Things like Vitamin C and brewer's yeast aren't going to do anything.

There may be somewhat safer and more effective abortificients in the form of plants you might find in tropical South America or Southeast Asia, but none of these are things you are going to pick up from the local herb store.

Not to thread hijack or anything, but who says all pro-choice people see abortion as morally equivalent to the above? Many of us fully recognize that it's sad and tragic but consider it a lesser evil in certain circumstances and a greater evil in others.

59 By the way, even in the eighties when I was a student at an expensive West Coast art college, actually learning how to draw and paint in order to make a living commercially, the fine art department there had just about as little to do with the plastic arts as possible. Virtually nothing but wasted art materials, turned into trash. Me, I make a decent living in commercial art, and rather like paychecks more than controversy. I'm sure she a lefty nutjob. I am also sure she is doing this for the attention, because with immature, leftist fucktards, any attention is welcomed.

But the female human can't just conceive, abort, conceive, abort repeat as necessary in that amount of time.  Artificial insemination is very dicey in a clinic when done by a fertility specialist, much less at home with a turkey baster. Add to that the supposed multiple abortions would throw her ovulation cycle way out of whack.

This twisted hateful bitch is just saying that she committed this horror for the reaction.

I am sure of that.

81 Color me appalled, even if this is a lie (which I can't help but think and hope that it is).

Just when you think nobody would go there, someone does.

The dangerous thing, even if it is a hoax, is that it has just opened the door to the real thing... indeed, I'd say it leads almost inexorably to someone picking up the baton and running it on across the finish line.

Just an incredible lack of the basic empathy for life. I was a cold bastard at that age, and to some respect, still am. But this is so far beyond the pale of common decency for me literally left my mouth gaping.

85 I really hope this is BS.  I don't often cry over people who really don't want babies not having them, since I've seen some definite cases where the baby would have been better off (I'll go into a few of them if you really want me to, but I'd really rather not), but this is just WRONG.  It's one thing to have an accidental pregnancy, it's another to do something like this.  This is like the difference between a car accident and driving your car into a plaza full of people.

86 She's an untalented jerk who's just screwing with everyone, and all the reaction is part of her "performance art," I will bet you.  If she displays her pieces, I would bet it's stage blood or a bag of blood from a local blood bank she somehow got her hands on, mixed with who knows what--just to draw more reaction.

Tell the stupid bitch that this has been done before and she is a copy cat. However the first time this was done it was with the artist own blood during menstraton. I think people have to take a stand and not go to this show. She is looking for an audience.

If this happens to be true, I hope she remembers that you reap what you sow!

90 As someone who has naturally miscarried four times and has six living children, it is very possible to become pregnant and "abort" multiple times in the span of nine months. Ovulation, especially in a young woman like the "artist", would return 2-3 weeks after the bleeding begins. She probably wasn't very far along when she took the herbal and OTC abortifacients. Depending on the gestation, she'd bleed for a week or two. That's it.

It's completely possible this is true.

If you've ever been on a fertility message board, you'd know the turkey baster method is actually used by women, especially those who don't want a man inside them...

God, I hope it isn't, though.

...but I'd wear a protection because knocking up a crazy vulcan chick who wants to get pregnant for an 'art project' is probably less fun than it sounds.

You said it, bub--dangerous, not fun. Some insect species have been known to eat the male after being fertilized. In fact, female mantises start to eat the male's head off while he's still gettin' it, to make him giddyap.

This chick, Schvanz, chewing your drunk face off while you're hittin' it from the back and getting bedspins in some patchouli-reeking dorm room.

How can anyone "major" in art???  You are either a great artist and will succeed, or you are a fucking joke and will fail.

Anyway, she may be the first person to have St Peter say WTF??

# 93 - No, I think St. Peter said that to the Darwin Award winner who cut off his own head off with a chainsaw.

This story sounds more and more like a hoax. Her professors should flunk her anyway just because.

97 Ace,

I think this incident indicates that the world is ready for your traveling exhibition – "Dismembered Hoboes in Homoerotic Poses" – to be brought to the attention of an admiring public.

'Cause you know, it could start a conversation about homelessness and oppression of gays and all that good shit.

100 Would it help to understand her (who cares, put a fork in her at this point) if you knew she was the Valedictorian at the very elite Buckley School in SoCal?

How about this roster of former students there:

Paris Hilton
Nicole Richie

Well, do I need to go on?
