Iraqi Agrees With Chris Matthews: America Brought Democracy To Iraq Against Its Will

There's a twist. "Allah bless America" for doing just that.

Iraqi Politicial Tells the Truth

Must watch.

1 Who was the bint that dared to speak while "uncovered"?

The guy who was speaking has got some titanium balls for saying what he said.

Posted by: EC at April 10, 2008 12:34 PM (j2Tjh)

2 That is what Chris Mathews would label "Hate Speech."  And there is no way Obama would sit through a sermon like that.  And Hillary would definately call for a boycott of that kind of language.

Posted by: Rob Roy at April 10, 2008 12:37 PM (+ZT5h)

3 Now there's a man who gets it. Kudos to him.

4 What's the Arabic word for cojones?

Posted by: Sean Bannion at April 10, 2008 12:45 PM (epqk/)

5

That is one perceptive dude. And as much as I like to bash Islam, he's got a point that it is more the failed "Arab" official culture than Islam.

(yes, I know what the Koran says, but somehow, a hell of a lot of the 1.2billion Muslims in the world manage to get through the day without beheading anyone)

Posted by: XBradTC at April 10, 2008 12:47 PM (HTqrO)

6 His words are painfully true. It must be hard to hear them. He is right, they are delusing themselves if they think that democracy is incompatible with a moderate Islam.

If Iraq turns into a long lasting functioning democracy, what an amazing fucking thing that would be. How unanticipated! There has been blood, yes, but there is always blood at birth.

7 I've seen this before.   I think the guy speaking is Sufi, which is very interesting and makes his statements less surprising.    As I understand it, Sufism is on the fringes of Islam and tends toward mysticism.

Posted by: Synova at April 10, 2008 12:50 PM (KZJr+)

8 I liked looking at the other commentators on the screen. It was like they would start to agree with him and nod or something, but then would immediately stiffen back up.  I am happy to see this getting out.

Posted by: JAFKIAC at April 10, 2008 12:51 PM (k4Vn9)

9 This guy appears to be a cleric of some kind, but a reasonable, logical one.  Seemingly without an overt political agenda either.  Definitely need more like that willing to speak out if Islam is to meet its billing as the 'religion of peace.'  I see a direct parallel in what he says in Judaism/Christianity.  God used the Israelites as an instrument of His justice in Canaan.  Likewise, God used the nations of the earth, from the Egyptians to the Assyrians to the Babylonians all the way up until the present day to punish and scatter the Israelites/Jews all over the globe for their disobedience in order to show His greatness and return them to Israel in the end.  In the same vein, this cleric sees America as his god's (Allah - no, it's not the same god) instrument of divine justice against the tin-pot dictators that enslaved innocent Arabs.  I don't buy it, but it certainly is interesting.  I'm also surprised at the conduct of the guests, as I assumed his comments would be inflammatory.  But they all listened intently, and while it looked like the guy in the lower right wanted to speak, he held his tongue.  It was only the anchor who interrupted.

Posted by: art at April 10, 2008 12:53 PM (e0pwG)

10 Keep in  mind under sanctions, no one would ever hear his words because he'd be too busy flying kites.

Posted by: Harun at April 10, 2008 01:08 PM (3oFvJ)

11 Great to see a Muslim speaking from the heart about turning the page on the last 1400 years of Arab Islamic culture. I think we can collectively hope: Insha' Allah.

So why don't guys like this get more airtime here, at the expense of the likes of CAIR.

What's that? It would help make the case for the Iraq War to the American public? Media Bias you say? I can't believe it!

Posted by: krakatoa at April 10, 2008 01:10 PM (7IHWE)

12 He's definitely not Arab or Sunni so his criticism of, well, Arabs and Sunnis needs to be taken in that context.  It's not like this guy is broadcasting Live from the Kabaa.  He's basically a heretic in the average Arab's mind.

Still, good stuff to hear.

Posted by: tachyonshuggy at April 10, 2008 01:18 PM (IVUjc)

13 Balls of steel.  Lightening shoots out when they clang together.  What a great clip.  That guy should be Pres. McCain's personal guest at the 2009 State of the Union Address.

Posted by: MAJHAM at April 10, 2008 01:18 PM (5ap+X)

14 Has McCain condemned that man's remarks, yet?

Posted by: Bart at April 10, 2008 01:20 PM (mMPmW)

If he is a Sufi (he did praise Sufism), then it is not surprising to hear these things.

And damn that chick complaining about civil war was HOT.

Posted by: Rob Roy at April 10, 2008 01:20 PM (+ZT5h)

16 "He's definitely not Arab."

Just curious, how do you know? Is he a Kurd?

Posted by: Harun at April 10, 2008 01:51 PM (3oFvJ)

17

Yea, verily, the chick has hotness.

I have the vid paused at a frame where it looks like she's giving a bj.  Think I'll leave it there for awhile....

18

The hot hostess uses the classic lefty-lib gambit that is the staple of "intellectuals" everywhere... you may be technically correct but nothing you say is relevant because everything is not yet perfect... and therefore, death to America.

Of course, everytime they get a chance to run things, somehow gross imperfection can be tolerated (whether you like it or not) for a very long, long time, usually until you can manage to kill them.

28 #11 "So why don't guys like this get more airtime here, at the expense of the likes of CAIR."

CAIR is way more media-savvy, from having been in that particular racket for a long time, plus are massively Saudi-funded.  Plus they're conscienceless scumbags, which has the effect of emboldening them.

30 America Brought Democracy To Iraq Against Its Will

The thing is, he says that like its a bad thing. What kind of moral retard thinks that?

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at April 10, 2008 03:44 PM (3+3kx)

31 Someone from a mystic tradition might be more into personal relationships with God (or Allah, as the case may be) and likely to be more able to translate that to personal spiritual *and* temporal authority and efficacy.   We've been told that democracy is not compatible with Islam (obviously not even all those in the mainstream parts agree with that) and that it's an authority issue, the individual imagining that they have authority to rule their own life rather than adhering to the authority of clerics.

It's a Protestant thing, for the most part.   (Not picking on Catholics... they've pretty much reformed by now, too.)    All of this guys talk about slavery and being born into a culture of slavery... familiar themes there.

Posted by: Synova at April 10, 2008 04:11 PM (KZJr+)

32 Christopher,

I don't think he says it like a bad thing at all. He is addressing the "slave" mentality of the Iraqis. They weren't capable of wanting democracy (he says), they needed to be taught.

While I think the freedom anaolgy to a bird born in a cage, born to parents born in a cage, right on down the geneolical line for 1400 years, is great.  And oh, so true.  Where would the former East Germans be without the example of the West Germans?  Look at Russia, a country enslaved since 1917 by the Bolshebiks, and before that for many centuries by the czars.  That country is a mess, and sliding backwards toward strongman rule.  While this Iraqi does get a lot of it when it comes to freedom and democracy (and getting rid of Saddam), his blind adherence to islam ("I am not talking about the beautiful, tolerant, islamic religion") needs some work.

Also, I  refute the female commentator's remarks about the violence happening every day in Iraq thanks to the US being there, leading to a potential civil war, by saying that violence had been going on in Iraq every day under Saddam's 25+ years reign of terror, and it didn't seem to bother them while that was going on.  Anyone who thinks this way, that Iraq is suddenly violent only now because of the US, thinks the bad guys we are killing are really the good guys, that is, they have the enemy mindset.  And that includes our own progressive morons.
