Caminito del Rey [dri]

Caminito del Rey (The King's pathway) is a narrow, decrepit walkway connecting two waterfalls at El Chorro near the southern Spanish port city of Malaga. It was built over a century ago and the years have not been kind. Adventurers with a death wish can test their mettle and their bowel control by traversing the pathway suspended precariously 2100 ft above a rocky gorge. This video will make parts of your body pucker faster than sitting naked on a sour ball. There is another video of the walkway beneath the fold. Enjoy.

12 Seriously?   Some of you actually think that this was scary?  Did you notice the big f*ng cable along side of the path?  Did you miss the f*ng railing?  Are you too pussified to sue the metal structure to get past the holes in the cement?  God Almighty!  No wonder this country has troubles!  Go out and buy some balls!  This is nothing more than a course that requires some sensible level of care to traverse.  I can't believe that the AoSHQ guys are such pussies!!!

13 I did that kind of stuff all the time as a teenager, though the heights were more on the 150' level. If you slipped you would still as dead as if if you fell from 2,000'. And we even did it in the winter when everything was covered with ice.

19 Not that dangerous, considering there's a safety cable along the rock face that you can clip into.  Get yourself a good harness, some webbing or dynamic rope, and a few quick-draws and you could do that traverse with fairly minimal risk.

Nice video though... I'll bet it's a beautiful climb.

This makes me think of my grandpa's cabin on a seaside cliff in Mexico.

We used to call it "the shack" and I used to be terrified to use the outhouse because it was on the edge of a cliff.

I was certain the wind was going to blow me and the outhouse off the cliff and down into the crashing waves below.

btw: The cabin and the village it was in don't even exist anymore as the whole cliffside eventually washed away.

The thing is, if it was allowed to fall into that bad a state of disrepair, there's some government official who took a look at that (some inspector or civil engineer) and decided "screw it, it's a lost cause" -- that it wasn't up to the civil engineering code,

In Spain.

A few decades ago.

And if they decided that, who am I to argue?

42 Parts didn't look too bad, but it only takes that one part that you misjudged to send you to a quick head butt with a boulder. Yeah, that security cable looked primo. No weathering at all. In fact it's so secure that were one to slip or the cement crumble beneath you, you could readily grapple it with one hand while snapping photos with the other. Why, that would almost be desirable in order to get that perfect natural framing with one's mobile phone. (I almost thought that guy's sister was going to test the cable a couple of times.)

Oh well. Some people still like to ride motorcycles on the highway without a helmet too.

I wonder how many corpses lay in the gorge?

44 Man. The Spanish National Parks Service sucks.

I am curious, though, how this guy managed to videotape the whole thing, tiptoeing across rusty pipes that used to hold the walkway, passing slower traffic on the outside along the way -- what with the additional weight of his enormous balls throwing his gait off.
