Obama Stubbornly Persists in Foreign Policy Naivete

So we have these two articles published on the same day.

The first, what is supposed to be a triumphant announcement of a certain presidential candidate's grasp of foreign policy, "The Obama Doctrine", which includes this:

"There is a popular notion that Democrats have to try to appear like Republicans to pass some test on national security. The fact that that's still the case after Iraq is absurd," says one of Obama's closest advisers. "So you break from that orthodoxy and say 'I don't care if the Republicans attack me because I'm willing to meet with the leadership in Iran. We haven't for 25 years, and it's not gotten us anywhere.'"

The second, an unfortunate dose of reality:

Gen David Petraeus told the BBC he thought Tehran had trained, equipped and funded insurgents who fired the barrage of mortars and rockets.
He said Iran was adding what he described as "lethal accelerants" to a very combustible mix.

Sometimes the Universe conspires to embarrass.

7 I'd trust the Obamassiah on foreign policy as much as I'd trust him on leading a discussion about race in this country. Question for Obama: "Who you gonna throw under the bus this time?" I have a real strong hunch it won't be the Palestinians, Iranians, or AQ. That leaves the Israeli's, Iraqui's and the United States.

There's more to examine in it; I just went for the cheap and easy snark. I might do a more policy-oriented criticism tomorrow if no one else gets to it first.

He needs a good shaming him for his Obama Doctrine, which states that we must stop with the democracy already and promote "dignity" instead. The article also frequently contrasts Obama's foreign policy strategy with "the Iraq War mindset" without describing what exactly that is.

Bill Clinton apologized to the Islamic Republic as part of a tediously negotiated overture to the mullahs. They were to graciously accept the apology, take a smidge of responsibility for our shattered friendship and begin the process of restarting a beginning to the onset of resuming diplomatic relations.

Instead, they told us to DIAF and slammed the door in our faces. It was a tremendous embarassment for Clinton and he was furious at the State Department for botching it. The mullahs used his apology as propaganda and laughed themselves silly at our expense.

Since then, for some reason the mullahs have opened back-door relations off and on, as noted above, and curiously coinciding with the proximity of carrier groups. They have helped immensely with our actions in Afghanistan and even Iraq. It's only lately that some factions in Tehran have apparently been doing what they can to make sure we don't feel too much love in Iraq.

It's all very curious. I actually think O'Bambi has the right idea but for the wrong reasons. And he should never have unilaterally agreed to approach the mullahs.
