NYT: The Speech Ends All Questions About Wright

Huh. What the hell has gotten into Allah? Besides beer, I mean.

Better watch that hate, son. One day all that hate's gonna burn you up.

1 I get the feeling that by writing this article, the NYT has established the meme that any more discussion about Wright will not be allowed. This speech has made ending discussion about Wright as much of a Known Fact as Global Warming, Bush Lied, Ohio Was Stolen, Bush Knew, etc.

Posted by: eddiebear at March 18, 2008 10:19 PM (zlXH8)

2 Now that's some magical thinking.  We need a discussion on race.  Yep, need it badly.

Posted by: toby928 at March 18, 2008 10:21 PM (evdj2)

3 I am telling you, it will be discovered soon that 20 years ago Karl Rove travelled to Illinios and began this insidious plot.

Posted by: LiveFromFortLivingRoom at March 18, 2008 10:21 PM (0aWv2)

4 We don't need to be talking about Rev. Wright gleefully celebrating the murder of 3000 innocent people, after all, its no big deal.

Posted by: doubleplusundead at March 18, 2008 10:25 PM (LEDkk)

5 It is unfair to say that Obama avoided responsibility for Wright's "controversial" remarks.  His white half pretty much took full blame.

Posted by: buzz at March 18, 2008 10:39 PM (+1T4W)

6 Actually, when the NYT says, "It is hard to imagine how he could have handled it better," I agree. I mean, realistically imagine.

He couldn't very believably now have completely renounced Wright, claiming some coincidental Damascus conversion. He couldn't very well say, "I actually believe quite a bit of what Wright has said," stridently defending the insanity, and keep any hope of a campaign alive. He couldn't continue to unbelievably insist that this was all a big shock to him. And he especially couldn't very well admit the truth, that he's always thought that Wright, Michelle, and about 80% of the congregation are batshit-crazy, and he's just been using them for political ends, knowing all along that he'd probably have to address this mess sometime, and if he'd been thinking straight he'd have quit the church right after being elected to the Senate.

No, he handled it about as well as he could have, I think. Perhaps tweaking that Grandma passage a bit would have helped, but by and large I can't imagine how he could have handled it better.

7 Ace,

Yes, all of that hate is going to eat poor Allah alive.

Sigh.

It's time to let this go.

Barack Hussein Obama will not only be the Democratic Nominee for President of the United States of America, but he will be the next President of the United States of AmeriKKKa.

Oops.

America.

My bad.

And when this happens there will be Peace.

And Joy.

And there shall be war no more.

Sing Praises!

Sing Praises!

Get used to buddy.

It's just the fucking way it is.

Just sayin'.

8 I suspect that we might be seeing the beginning of the end to "affirmative action" and "white guilt" over slavery and segregation.  I don't think that that many Americans feel guilty over slavery that was ended 150 years ago and segregation that was ended 60 yrs ago.  I also think many Americans were getting tired of the continual poor mouthing from black leaders.  This Wright nonsense is going to be the final straw, as it were.  Being called "racist" by a black isn't going to carry quite the same level of weight that it used to.  In fact, it's been somewhat overused as of late -- used to close down criticism of any black.  I see that ending/

On the contrary.

With Barack Hussein Obama as POTUS with a Democratically controlled Congress and several SCOTUS appointments later, the use of correctives like affirmative action will only be just beginning.

12 Oh, and I'll also give him credit for bravery, or else simply note his inexperience (whichever it might be): He published a full text of his speech a half hour before Rush Limbaugh went on the air, letting Rush respond immediately, rather than doing the usual 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (Friday) announcement.

.RECAP:

1. A politician is on the ropes for sitting in the pews and nodding at a man who believes the US spread AIDS, drugged the poor, brought 9-11 on itself and who wants black to reject aspirations to the middle class...etc.

2. His aides decide he needs a Damage Control speech to blunt the impact

3. Rather than distance himself from the racist nut, his speech lectures the folks who were offended by the racist nut.

4. The media throws rose petals at his feet.

5. See you in the General, punks.

16 Obama is toast. This will emerge again in the general if he is the nominee. Nice try, NYT, but whites are tired of the blame game, and Obama can't take back 20 years of the Blame Whitey church he takes his small children to.

The commercials are being planned right now by every right leaning 527 for November.

Obama has lost his rise above race sheen to white voters.

Now they don't like him. Maybe he should not have thrown his white grandmother under a bus driven by his hate-mongering, Anti-American and Anti-Semitic mentor.

Now I understand what is meant by "class warfare" and "haves and have-nots": those who "have-no" class will inevitably wage war against those who do. To borrow a simile from Fat Albert's gang: Reverend Wright is like school in the summertime.

23 Here's a clip of Wright on Hannity and Colmes last year talking about how the  black liberation theology he preaches comes from James Cone. Here's how James Cone himself explains black liberation theology -

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

Eman, the Sermon on the Mount was a fortune-cookie scrambled mess compared to the "Philidelphia Phreedom" speech delivered unto us today.

Lincoln, FDR, and thier political speeches are now obsolete; America was transformed and healed today, lifted above and beyond the grim calculus of race politics and into a bright ( figuratively, making no allusion to skin color) future where your tired old hateful Reaganite bashing of welfare will be forgotten, everyone will be kind to each other, and education spending and health insurance will rain down from heaven and bless us all with a new understanding of each other and the world.

Let's just cancel the rest of the primaries, general election and make him God-Emperor with absolute powers, because, as he said, the Constituion is flawed...

Okay NOW I'm feeling some hope about change.  Could it be so?  Could it be that one actual positive effect of this sick-ass election cycle could be the end of the Race Card as we know it?
Maybe so.  In the past two weeks, we've seen Geraldine Ferraro and Bill Clinton get racecarded upside their heads.  If they can get this treatment, truly nobody is immune.  Dems have to be looking over their shoulders now, wondering who's next.  Oh I hope it's Geraldo Rivera, but this is no time to get greedy.
Here's the thing:  If the Race Card keeps getting overplayed and overplayed, as loudly and as often as it has these past few weeks, could it not start to lose some of its mojo?  Could we get to a point where somebody gets racecarded and just SHRUGS IT THE FUCK OFF and continues with an uncomfortable line of questioning or unflattering analogy or whatever?  Less realistically, could we get to a point where these pandering sleazebags actually HESITATE TO PLAY a racecard, for fear of being laughed out of the room?
Maybe not, maybe not.  But there's my healing dream for this evening.
Nite nite.

I didn't before but now I do.

Equating his grandmother's private apprehensions about encountering groups of young black men - who are statistically much more likely to commit violent crime than are, say, groups of middle-aged Japanese women or, really, groups of any other description - with the careerist racism, anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism of his chosen-beloved Pastor Jeremiah Wright is disgusting.

And cowardly.

Instead of facing up to the consequences of his own choices and actions, he smears a defenseless old lady.

42 The speech did what Obama needed it to do. It gave the MSM an excuse to shut up about Racist Reverend Wright and it will give the super delegates an excuse to not rebel against the elected delegates.

McCain will not use the Racist Reverend Wright against Obama. Some 527 will and for every undecided voter that hears Obama's defense there are 100 undecided voters that have never seen any of the Racist Reverend Wright sermons. Those videos are dynamite and the fuse can never be extinguished.

Ya know what. The election is over 7 months away. That's too long for even a crackpot visionary like me to make predictions.

-More news of the Pastors hateful speeches is released

-Obama says he wasnt there

-MSM continues to bury and whitewash the actual comments

-More news is released, it comes to a head and Obamas numbers start to slip

-Obama gives cover his ass "racial healing" speech, where he essentially admits he lied

-MSM puts Obama the Healer on every front page telling us not to bother him anymore, after weeks of mis or underreporting the underlying story that caused the speech in the first place

Rev. Otis Moss III is responding to a question from the audience.  He's trying to make the point that black people should force the Dems to cater to their concerns if they want votes.

He says "blah.. blah…indepence … problems with both parties.. have issues with the corporate takeover of politics…and Republicans realize something 'We really don't like black people'.. we knew that..'It's on tape… we really don't like black people'".

Starting about 2-3 minutes from the end of the recording.

Basically, it's his Kanye moment.

"Racial Healing" my Irish ass.  The only famous black person speaking frankly about race in this country is Bill Cosby, and he's been marginalized because he refuses to blame white people for every problem in the black community.  Obama is another race-hustling victocrat; he would rather slam his grandmother than honestly speak about the black community's continued enabling of it's own pathologies.  He's a liar and a scumbag, and he deserves every bit of the heat he's taking.

And I'm surprised Chris Matthews could even discuss this, what with Obama's dick in his mouth all the time.

"Better watch that hate, son. One day all that hate's gonna burn you up."--Wright, Obama.

BHObama smeared his white grandmother for fearing while alone in public any man on the street, particularly black men as those would have been strangers in her day. He failed to explain  or excuse his grandmother's concern for self preservation. I remember parents telling daughters to NEVER place themselves in circumstances where they would be victimized because the blame would be their own for having lacked discretion. Obama's grandmother came from the generation of Americans that alongside perpetrators blamed the victims of crime and particularly rape victims for asking for it in their dress, demeanor, or where they were, who they were with, or being alone in public, or being out after a certain hour, or leaving doors or windows unlocked. Authority figures made the rules. "Ladies" followed very strict rules that as children they certainly did not create but were fully expected to endorse in maturity. Obama does not respect his grandmother for being the best person she knew how to be, a lady. She was young when that's how things were. In loving Obama and raising Obama, she proved her generosity and mother's love. BHObama proved his hard heart, unappreciative and disrespectful and demanding. Exactly what is it that Obama claims to HAVE to give? He takes. He is a taker and an abuser.

BTW, Laura Ingraham mentions, as does Sean Hannity, that Christians can choose their minister. Sorry to mention it in parting, but bear in mind, Mormons can not. Mormons must attend according to their local geographical WARD, within it’s STAKE and REGION. Church attendance is mandatory within one’s geographical Ward under the auspices of whomever General Authorities designate as leaders chosen by direct revelation from God. But then, the Popes have denounced Statism regardless of locale, and Pope John Paul II pronounced that the Catholic Church formally does not accept Mormon baptism. It doesn’t matter how, Obama links the most disparate elements into public dialogue. Though Obama COULD CHOOSE his minister, as it is and has been, Romney can not.

Stinky Esposito, the powers that released the news have a calendar. Not only was Christmas Season abused by early politicking, now Easter would be.

Look through the fog to what matters and preserve the Good News.

New York Times:

"Mr. Obama drew a bright line between his religious connection with Mr. Wright, which should be none of the voters’ business, and having a political connection, which would be very much their business.
