Anderson Cooper, Who Believes the Rev. Wright Story To Be "On the Wrong Track," Discussing Romney's Despicable Mormonism

Hey Anderson?

Fuck you too, chump.

"The Deciders" (that is, the MSM) wrote the following comment:

There are no direct operational links between Obama and Wright.

And on yeah: Check out CNN's handy "Fun Facts" about Mormonism running side-by-side with Romney during his speech on religion. Polygamy at about 1:30, racism at about 2:00.

Hmm... seems CNN took a different position on the relevance of a man's church when it was a Republican under scrutiny.

Anyone think if Obama addresses faith (or race, for that matter) they'll put up "interesting" quotes from Rev. Wright right next to his jackass jug-ears?

Transcript below. Thanks to MikeZ.

COOPER: It's interesting, Ralph.

You know, only one-third of Americans -- you look at surveys that were recently done about Americans' attitude toward Mormonism, one- third of Americans, 34 percent, think Mormons are Christian. Now, whether that's they simply don't know or that is a belief that they have, does it pose a problem for Romney, as he tries to court religious conservatives, as he tries to move forward in this election?

REED: No, I really don't think so.

And that same poll, Anderson, indicates that about the same number believe that they are Christian.

(CROSSTALK)

COOPER: Do you believe they're Christian?

REED: My personal theological belief is -- is that it's the Bible, and you don't add to it or take away.

COOPER: Are Mormons Christians, in your opinion?

REED: Well, you know, again, my purpose is not to -- I have my own personal beliefs. And -- but I'm not really here to talk about what my beliefs are.

I'm here to talk about whether or not I think that somebody who has a different faith than I do, and doesn't share my theology, has just as much right to run for office, seek office, and hold elective office as anybody else.

COOPER: Are there many people in the evangelical community who do not view Mormons as Christian?

CARVILLE: Anderson, I would point out that the preferred name, I think, of their church is, is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

They certainly say they're Christians. I believe them. I take them at their word. Who am I to sit -- just like I'm -- who I am I to sit in judgment? I take the Reverend Sharpton at their word.

I think that the people, the folks in the Mormon Church or the Church of Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ, they have a right to be called what they want. And they certainly do -- what little bit I know about Mormon theology -- I have read a couple of books on it -- they certainly do believe in Jesus Christ, and, so, if that -- that -- but, to the extent that that should matter to anyone.

But the main point here is, is that Mormons have served this country honorably and -- and with integrity for a long, long time, and that they should not -- I think any voter would be -- it would be a very big mistake not to vote for someone based on their faith or Mormon faith or any other faith.

COOPER: It's interesting, James.

Ralph mentioned John F. Kennedy. When he was a presidential candidate, as Ralph mentioned, obviously, Catholicism was a big issue.

CARVILLE: Right.

COOPER: He gave this very influential speech, part of which Ralph quoted from.

I want to play just a little sound bite from another part of the speech. Let's listen to that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOHN F. KENNEDY (D), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I do not speak for my church on public matters. And the church does not speak for me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

COOPER: That really sort of changed that speech, was the beginning, I think, of changing the tide for the president.

CARVILLE: Right.

COOPER: Does a Mitt Romney have to make a kind of speech like that, where he addresses his faith?

(CROSSTALK)

CARVILLE: Well, I don't know that -- I suspect that he may have to, certainly not for me or -- I think a lot of other people feel the same way. And I don't know how big of an issue this is going to be. But it's actually something that he has to be aware of. For me personally, I don't care about any religious test for anybody, and particularly someone of a church and a faith that have so many people who have served this country so honorably.

But it could be that he may have to do something similar to that. It's a shame that someone would have to do something like this in America in 2008. I hope that he doesn't, but he may have to.

(CROSSTALK)

COOPER: James Carville, Ralph Reed, interesting discussion, guys. Thank you.

Hm! "Interesting" discussion this, whether Mormons are Christian or not.

Not "on the wrong track" or a diversion from the "real issues," it turns out.

Looks like Cooper thought Romney would be wise to discuss his faith in a major speech.

But Obama? Not so much, not so much.

1 So, what's Jeremiah's position of gays? Isn't that the deciding factor with Anderson Cooper as to who is despicable and who is not?

2 Exactly, lets go to the tapes.

Yer on a roll, Ace.  FEEL the Dark Side.

Maybe comment on how most papers are running with the pastor, while the NY Times is doing a hard-hitting piece on Obammy's Mammy.

Pointing out media bias has become like shooting fish in a barrel.  I swear, they're not even trying anymore.

I guess Cooper shaves in the dark now.

5 And compared to what the MSM did in the Ukraine and South East Asia this is all fairly harmless.  Just think what we're going to discover they've been doing in Iraq, Iran, Gaza and North Korea..

6 Crooks and Liars:

C&L whining about MSM coverage of McCain's religious endorsements, implying insufficient coverage of the Hagee affair (covered all over the place) and suggesting another individual who "deserves closer scrutiny" by the MSM:

Theres been considerable discussion, at least online, about John McCain reaching out and embracing televangelist John Hagee, despite Hagees record of attacking people not like him, most notably Catholics, Jews, and gays. But its worth keeping in mind that theres another right-wing televangelist with close ties to McCain whose background deserves closer scrutiny.

C&L whining about Hannity whining about the MSM not giving enough attention to Jeremiah Wright (after the MSM chose to ignore the issue for months).

C&L Contributer BillW sent this video on last night without comment and I had to watch it a few times just to fully soak in the utter cluelessness on the part of Sean Hannity without laughing. Apparently, Sean Hannity thinks that the mainstream media is not brave enough to look into the Barack Obamas ties to Trinity United Church of Christ and by some Hannitized six degrees of separation logic, his ties to Louis Farrakhan. Um, Sean? Arent YOU part of the mainstream media? And on what do you base the assertion that it hasnt been covered? Oh thats right, facts have a liberal bias.

7 Sailer has another post up on Obama's silly claims he didn't know about Wright's anti-Americanism.

Relevant facts:

1984: Wright visits Libya and praises Qaddafi.
1995: Obama writes autobiography extensively discussing Wright.
2003: Wright's "God damn America" tirade.
2005-2006: Obama donates $27,500 to Wright's church.
All the time in between: Who knows how many other wild conspiracy theories and anti-American statements Wright made every time Mr. "Hope and Change", supposedly a reliable churchgoer, will claim he wasn't in the pews.

Who cares? Preachers always condemn society. Haven't you ever read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"?

It is a founding document of this country.

I been going to church my whole life, and I know what they say in churches. It ain't always pretty, and it can be hard to take, but we shouldn't let the political process muzzle preachers just because they can be politically incorrect. Right or wrong, they are beholden to a higher power and are protected by the separation of church and state.

By going after Obama's church, I think we are basically inviting radical activists to exploit churches everywhere, video tape sermons, and expose religious congregations to political attack. You know that activists are going to start trying to play gotcha with conservative pastors who endorse McCain.... and the thought of this makes me really, really sad.

We should leave church out of it.  It's bad enough that presidential campaigns have become about a person's teenage years, their family life, etc.  Maybe Huckabee already let the genie out of the bottle....  I don't know.  I just wish it didn't come to this.

Where have you been?  They're already doing that.

11 Yeah, but by the same token, many McCain-hating rightblogs are guilty of the same fucking hypocrisy, just in reverse. You, Dan Riehl, the Powertools like John Hindrocket, all are jumping all over Jeremiah Wright, but kindly link me to an AOSHQ where you take Romney to task for not condemning Mormon racism, sexism or hate teaching against Jews, Catholics and other Protestants.

I'm really enjoying all the outrage over Wright from the same fucking hypocrites who were quite content to let Romney slide because they detested McCain. Nice long post denouncing Anderson and Wright, just so you're consistent, where is the one about Romney?

Do any of you newly converted to the "candidates' religion is now fair game" hucksters have any intellectual honesty?

12 Good work, Ace!  I had completely forgotten about that stupid pop-up video bullshit they did on Romney when he was giving his speech.

Someone needs to point this out to Fox News so they can ram it down Anderson Cooper's throat for his hypocrisy.

First, don't give Wright a pass because he's a "minister." Find for me in the Bible where it says the white man created AIDS in a laboratory to kill off the black man, or where it says in the Bible that the CIA distributes drugs in the black community to keep the black man down. Or that we deserved 9-11, or that Jesus was a black man. There's nothing at all Christian -either in tone or in fact- about Wright's speeches. They are purely political.

But also, if Obama wants to be the candidate of racial healing and understanding that he claims to be, he needs to come down hard on this guy. For many of us who spent unfortunate years on college campuses, we know that "racial healing and understanding" too often means, "OK whitey, are you ready to admit that everything bad in this country is your fault? If so, we can move on (Well, after you pay reparations.)." If Obama wants to really promote true healing and understanding, he has to also be willing to call a black racist a racist, and say that the AIDS and drugs comments are absolute bullshit, meant to absolve individuals in the black community from any personal responsibility.

15 Do any of you newly converted to the "candidates' religion is now fair game" hucksters have any intellectual honesty?

Please, assclown..  It isn't anything Wright believes the Bible says or doesn't say that offends me.  What he believes about gays or lesbians in the clergy, about abortion or contraception, about drinking or not drinking, about whether Jesus was black or white or purple or whatever doesn't concern me. It's his anti-American views, his hate whitey rhetoric, his endorsement of the anti-white, anti-semite Farrakhan and the terrorist dicator Qaddafi, and his conspiracy theories and his 20 year relationship with Obama that concern me.

16 You know, I was going to write an intelligent rebuttal to docweasel's usual spew of ignorance and bigotry... but why bother? There's more intelligence and humanity in one of Ashley Alexandra Dupre's soiled and discarded Maxi-Pads than there is in docweasel's whole being.

The millions of African-American, Asian, Hispanic, and other ethnic Latter Day Saints are a testimony to the church's inclusiveness, and refute his hateful bigotry more eloquently than words.

Wright is gonna sink Obama.  You know the RNC is positively salivating over the possibility this guy will be the Democratic nominee.  I think the American electorate is perfectly capable of electing a black man, but only if he manages to give the impression he's not a racist.  No Republican would get away with being in a racist church (a truly racist church - people who think Mormons are racist are just ignorant).

The great thing is I think it's too late for Hillary to win the nomination.  Even if she somehow manages to pull it out, she can't possibly win the general election without the black vote.

Posted by: Ace's liver at March 14, 2008 08:31 PM (eSqCK)

18 Let me say something else about docweasel. He wants people to think he hates Mormons because of some racist practices in the church's past. The truth is, he would hate Mormons anyway, for whatever reasons bigots hate what they hate. Fish gotta swim, bigots gotta hate. The racial angle is just his attempt to get others to buy into his bigotry using the currency of political correctness.

Does docweasel despise the residents of Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi with the same vitriol he spews at members of the LDS Church? The racism they practiced went far, far beyond excluding blacks from some offices within the church. But they get a pass, apparently. The full force of his hate is directed at the LDS church. Just as Jeremiah Wright projects his hate onto white people.

22 If this account is banned at LGF its news to me. All the bloggers at docweaselblog use the same login to post at several blogs, and I've used it post at LGF recently.

Anyway, what does getting banned from anywhere have to do with anything? Banning someone merely means you have no credible answer with which to debate them, so you try to shut them up. Since we maintain about 5 alters to any forum, blog, net community, banning one wouldn't do much good anyway.

For the record, NO ONE has ever been banned from DocWeaselForum, and no post ever deleted. We fear no one. People ban members because they fear what they say.

But that's not fair.  I'm sure you've got a real collection of winners assembled under your blogospheric banner, what with a luminary like yourself driving the discussion.

We fear no one.

You hate plenty.

People ban members because they fear what they say.

No one's afraid of your small-minded, imbecilic babblings, truth-to-power tough guy.  Your beliefs are equally offensive (overt Mormon hatred) and retarded (America has an obligation to let any non-criminal who wants to be here just move right on in, the rest of us be damned).

24 Well, you can guess in one hand and shit in the other and figure out which one fills up faster. We've had the forum in its present form since 2002, and before that in the old 'nested thread' lame ass newsgroup type form since '97. There are about 1800 active members who actually post regularly, around 5k registered members.

It would be funny to read you calling me a bigot while at the same time stereotyping anyone who supports open immigration as a LaRaza member and anyone who defends Obama right to religion as a sociopathic religious bigot. It would be funny if you weren't so pathetic.

And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we've been attacked on our soil and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters -- the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats -- what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact -- if, in fact -- God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

But i doubt it was over immigration, because contrary to your comment, most Republicans do support fair and legal immigration.  It's illegal immigration they don't support. I loosely characterize you as a La Raza member because you spout the same self-entitled "America owes the world" bullshit that they do.  And anyone, like yourself, that thinks that it's not only sensible but, in fact, obligatory, for this greatest of nations to take in the 4+ billion people that would rather live here than in the shitholes in which they currently reside is, to put it mildly, a fucking retard.

When our unemployment rate jumps from 5% to 99.5%, and when every school and hospital is crushed under the weight of a burden it can't bear, and when we've got open tribal warfare in the streets of suburbia, I'm sure you'll be the first retard on your block to babble "buh, buh, buh how could I have seen this coming?"  Keep on tokin' that bong, dumbass -- the sane grown-ups will take care of the messy details of things like thinking through our positions.

But don't get me wrong Republican-who-doesn't-hold-any-views-that-Republicans-hold, doc -- you'd be a blithering idiot without the rank and noxious religious bigotry (and your impassioned defense of Obama's "right to practice his religion", which is the farthest thing from the topic at hand regarding his pastor who seems to hold America in the same high regard that you do, is just too creamy rich with irony).  The reflexive "I HATE MORMONS!!!!!11111" screeching is just gravy.
