Guess! That! Party!: For Three Nights Running, NBCNews Fails To ID Spitzer As A Dem

ABCNews and even Katie Couric managed to do so once, at least.

But NBCNews? The most unashamedly partisan network on TV?

Nope. By NBC's lights, Elliot Spitzer belongs to the Crusading Prosecutor Party. Or maybe the Man Who Fell Due To His Own Personal Failings and Whose Flaws Cannot Possibly Reflect Whatsoever On His Political Party Party.

Here's a related complaint: When the left makes an issue of media failings, the MSM falls over itself to either 1) correct those alleged failings or 2) defend themselves and claim they're doing their jobs just fine.

Steven Colbert poked fun at the media for being (hah!) lapdogs for Bush. They all vowed to be tougher and stop giving him the free pass he'd enjoyed for five years. SNL, which is basically just Newsweek's Conventional Wisdom Watch with recurring characters, knocked the media for fawning over Barack Obama. Suddenly they decided they had to start actually covering Obama like a political candidate rather than the Risen Christ.

On the right, we've been knocking the "Obamessiah" goofery for a frigging year. Did anyone notice? Nope. It took the left-wing crew at SNL to get the media's attention.

They don't even bother responding to us on the right, even in a clear-cut and provable systemic and deliberate case of a bias such as this. They don't even bother defending themselves. They just ignore us. Because they're not even reading us and even if they did, what we think just doesn't matter.

When various leftist bloggers attack MSM figures, the response is usually fairly immediate. Joe Klein spent weeks defending himself from lefty attacks; Paul Krugman just posted a blog entry defending himself against the charge he had dared to deny the divinity of Barack Obama.

But they don't even bother acknowledging the most obviously-verifiable criticisms of the right. Not even an acknowledgment.

Politically, you are what you read, and culturally, you are whose opinions you give a crap about.

By their very reading habits and exquisite concern for the opinions of leftwing bloggers, they give the game away. I could spend three weeks attacking Joe Klein; I'd never get a response. Because not only is he not reading me, he also doesn't even know anyone who may be reading me and might forward my criticisms to him. And even if such a bizarre congruence of improbabilities to conspire together, he wouldn't bother responding because, hey, I'm just a nutty rightwinger and anything I have to say is, by definition, the ravings of dangerously insane schizophrenic.

Howard Kurtz styles himself as an objective media critic. He also covers blogs... mostly leftwing blogs, of course, but once in a while he'll drop a mention to Instapundit or Powerline.

Is he ever going to get around to addressing what is a clear and easily provable case of systematic MSM bias? Or is the problem for Howie that the case is so clear-cut and so damning that he dares not even mention it, for his liberal media pals not only have no defense for their behavior, but insist on continuing it?

Elliot Spitzer's theme song should be Love Potion #9. Always liked that song. Maybe, he can use it as a defense? Yer, honor, I was drugged!

2 Hmm, Anne Coulter makes the argument that high price hookers are still drugged out semi-illeterates.

Posted by: Mack at March 13, 2008 10:42 AM (1CagD)

3 The MSM also fears criticism from blogs and pundits on their own side because they have to interact with them at parties and gatherings. And the last thing they want is to be maw-mawed at Sally Quinn's house parties. While they ignore Newsbusters or AoS, or LGF, they fear a tut tut from David Brock or Josh Marshall. Maybe that is why MediaMatters has a book out criticizing how the MSM has treated McCain up until the last few weeks. Kind looks as though they are working the refs.

At the same time, when one of their own goes off the plantation, the attacks are swift and vicious. Look at how fast and stridently Jon Stewart and SNL were attacked by the nutroots for their Obama jokes.

4 Maybe I'm just a cynic, but it seems the MSM has won.

The new media reached its nadir with Rathergate. Since then, it seems the MSM has successfully marginalized the dextrosphere by ignoring it with the exception of those examples it can cull illustrating the worst of us, while at the same time highlighting and whitewashing the rants and ravings of the sinestrosphere.

5 People will continue to disregard MSM "bias" this is because Americans choose MSM.
MSM= Main Street Media
Even using scary names like SOROS (which sounds like some James Bond acronym) fails to alarm Americans.
If Americans could be FORCED to watch only governmentally approved media instead of MSM, some would be much happier.
But the great unwashed uneducated masses continue to insist on their MSM.

6 The Emperor's Club portrayed Kristen as a high-class, well-educated, intelligent escort. Now, it turns out she was a loser from a broken home in Jersey with drug and relationship problems. The Old Eliot Spitzer would have sued the Emperor's Club for false advertising.

I'd be not surprised if Mrs. Spitzer leveraged this betrayal into a New York Senate seat.

7 People will continue to disregard MSM "bias" this is because Americans choose MSM.
I guess where there's no choice, there's no problem.
The question that always baffles me is: why, considering the proven success of Fox News and Rush, all of the broadcast networks pass up the easy money of conservative news, or at least balanced news. If the Fox entertainment network would just run the first half hour of Hume as their national news, they would crush the competion the big three. Capitalist rarely pass money thats laying there, free for the taking.
Its odd.

8 Media bias is like water to a fish. Its the envirnonment in which they swim. They can hardly be expected to notice it.

9 The problem for the MSM and the Joel Kleins of the world is that their circle of influence is shrinking (watch their ratings drop, year after year). Sure they only listen to and read from a small and finite group, ignoring completely any other viewpoints, but their ability to influence non-partisans is drying up.

On a similar note, Tampa has a free daily called the TBT (published by the St. Pete Times) that I sometimes read at the gym. It often runs articles/opinions that are borrowed from the the internet. Those articles are ALWAYS from, excitably Andy, Gleen Greenwald, Huffpost, etc. and etc. Never once have they ever run something from Hugh or Powerline or even Ace!

10 Yeah, keep crackin' wise.
Ill just keep putting out copy with references to the "Bush Recession", the "Civil War in Iraq" (tm) and other Dem talking points, re-packaging them as "news" to the doltish readers digest subscribers and dental office patients who still read my partisan garbage.

11 Post Rathergate, the Msm has relearned the lesson of the Parliament of Clocks:
"In order to maintain their power and position within society, articulate intellectuals must convince the larger population that they really do have a superior understanding of the issues they study. The do so using a parliament of clocks. By enforcing rigorous conformist standards on their members, they seek to create the illusion of accuracy by making it appear that all people knowledgeable in a particular field all reach the same conclusion. If all the supposed experts in a particular field all tell the same story the lay people are much less likely to guess that none of the experts know what they are talking about.
You can see this effect quite clearly in the herd mentality of journalists. Researchers have shown that journalist rapidly converge upon the same perspective on even very complex stories. Why? Well, how does an ordinary consumer of news media judge whether a particular news story is accurate? Simple, they check with another news source. What if the different sources disagree? What grounds does the consumer have for determining which source is correct? The consumer might conclude that none of the sources are making an accurate report and they may stop consuming news media. The media prevents this from happening by converging on the same story. If every source that the consumer can reasonably check tells the same story, then the consumer won稚 have grounds for doubting any of the sources."

13 The MSM ignores the right until the announcement comes that their employer is cutting newsroom staff because of declining readership and advertising. Then, they jump in to blame the right for ruining the economy, failing to support their lifestyle, and failing toappreciate the artistry of their biased reporting.

19 The foreign leader who said it best last week was the Queen, though she
didn't really say a word. I have met Her Majesty from time to time (I am
one of her Canadian subjects), and to put it at its mildest, for those
with a taste for American vernacular politics, she can be a little
stiff: The Queen stands on ceremony and she has a lot of ceremony to
stand on. But on Thursday, for the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham
Palace, she ordered the Coldstream Guards to play "The Star-Spangled
Banner" the first time a foreign anthem had been played at the
ceremony. The following day something even more unprecedented happened:
At Britain's memorial service for the war dead of last Tuesday, the
first chords of "The Star-Spangled Banner" rumbled up from the great
organ at St Paul's Cathedral, and the Queen did something she's never
done before she sang a foreign national anthem, all the words. She
doesn't sing her own obviously ("God Save Me"), but she's never sung "La
Marseillaise" or anything else, either; her lips never move. best hiking GPS acer laptop reviews gas grills review
at that same service she also sang "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic,"
for the second time in her life the first was at the funeral of her
first prime minister, Winston Churchill. On Friday, she fought back
tears. When she ascended the throne, Harry Truman was in the White
House. The first president she got to know was Eisenhower, back in the
war, when he'd come to the palace to brief her father....
