This is fucking amazing. It's like they're not even bothering to hide it anymore.

This is a slideshow by ABCNews displaying pictures of 13 politicians caught up in sex scandals.

Check out the big brain on Piglito as he runs it down for us:

ABC News has a slideshow recounting 13 (12 involve elected officials) famous political sex scandals.
The 12 break down thusly: five are Democrats, seven are Republicans.
Of the Dems listed, only one is identified as a Democrat [one out of five].
Of the listed Repubs, six are IDed as Republican. [Six out of seven.]
Media bias quantified.

The one unelected official, incidentally, is explicitly ID'd as a political appointee of President Bush's, so while his nominal party isn't mentioned, hey, they sure make sure you know which team he's playing for, eh?

This is all in our minds, huh, MSM?

It's all accidental, right?

Then why does it keep happening, and why do you stubbornly refuse to make a simple style guide change -- requiring the party ID of any and all politicians caught in scandals upon first mention, in the first paragraph?

It's because you want to preserve your freedom to continue doing this. Only Republican scandals are, in fact, Republican scandals. Democratic scandals are never identified as such, and instead are, in your "nuanced" telling, either scandals of a particular man alone or of "The System" generally.

The media has designated itself a 4th branch of Government, but with no inconvenient Constitutional checks and balances like the others have. As long as they keep licking their ass, that is the Democratic Party, they will keep that privileged position.

Who you gonna sue? And for what? They have found a chink in the armor of our democracy, the freedom of the press that was granted assuming that the press would fight vested interests, not become one. As long as they lick the Democrats and the Democrats lick them, we are fucked, and there is nothing we can legally do about it.

Damnit you stole my idea! It just occurred to me while I was looking at the prostitution ring scandal that the politician in question was a democrat so I thought of a drinking game. the rules are thus:

1.) if the party member is a democrat take one shot for every paragraph (or sentence if its on television or a small article) up until they actually mention the political affiliation.

and

2.) If Republican take one shot for every paragraph and/or sentence following the declaration of the political party.

Both parties benefit, the republicans get drunk and the media doesn't have to put up with'em cause they all die of alcohol poisoning after a scandal breaks out.

Insert name here - Insert party here was discovered to have done insert vile sexual act here and so forth, i mean seriously all these articles should read the same with the vital information in the same spots, but writers feel they A) must get creative (which is not the point of hard facts journalism but instead to report the FACTS as quickly as possible), or B) intentionally alter their form in order to hide the party, but again this is nothing new

ABC obviously gets a pass for not mentioning Clinton's party. They also didn't mention that Randall Tobias was a Republican. In this case, readers who infer his party from his service in the Bush administration would get the party right (though that's never a valid inference).

Other than Clinton and Tobias, legislators get their party identified governors and mayors don't. Two exceptions: Bob Livingston and Wilbur D. Mills. There, ABC might argue, first, that "D" is Wilbur's middle initial and, second, that Livingston and Mills were such high profile legislators that there's no need to list their party. Just as one might argue that Newt Gingrich's or Ted Kennedy's party needn't be identified.

This is what's known as a cover story.

The cover story just begs multiple questions. Why don't they list the party affiliation of governors and mayors? Why do they 'happen' to include a disproportionate number of Republican legislators in their slide show, and no Republican governors? Is ABC trying to make a partial argument for divided government? (Because Dems can't keep it zipped when they acquire executive power, while Republicans can't keep it zipped when they acquire legislative power.)

If someone else was putting this list together wouldn't they have included the following dems: Fat Boy Ted, Barney Frank, Mel Reynolds, and Gary Condit? You could also add a few dem mayors (Detroit and D.C.) but we certainly can't have a MSM sex scandal list that has more dems on it than pubs.
