| John Warner Sends Obama Letter Demanding More Information On "Troops Capturing Weapons From The Taliban"What I need from you are the essential facts of when — the dates — the unit was deployed, to which brigade combat team, or other unit it was assigned, the name and current location of the captain, or other military personnel who shared the alleged facts with you, so that committee staff can debrief them.More from Hot Air, and still more. Check out Spruiell, too. His servicemember readers are not buying it. Comments1
This is what is known as 'put up or shut up'.
Or racism. Yeah, that's it! Racism! Impeach John Warner! Posted by: Sort-of-Mad Max at February 22, 2008 08:58 PM (kKgTD) 2
This is the break that Hillary! was waiting for. Obama tried to out-lie and out-bullshit a Clinton. BIG Mistake. Posted by: TXMarko at February 22, 2008 09:06 PM (GYsqV) 3

You know what's really funny? If their audience were only liberals, no one would be questioning his statements. Everyone would just nod in agreement.
If you ever wonder why they say such idiotic things, it's because their primary audience, people who think just like them, never calls them on the facts. When a group of them get together, there is usually at some point a big circle-jerk of ego-stroking and in general congratulating themselves on how smart and informed they are because they all hold the same idiotic opinions. This is the first time I can say that I'm really proud of Sen. Warner.
Well, he did bang Liz Taylor when she looked like a woman and not some fucked up piece of French soft cheese. Posted by: E Buzz Miller-Booth at February 22, 2008 09:14 PM (vFeQi) 6
For all I know the parts of this story that haven't yet been contradicted by the source could be true; Afghanistan is a devilish difficult place to keep in supply. This is one of the little facts Obama overlooks with his breezy talk about sending a lot more troops there.

This is small potatoes, noone is going to care. Take him on for being an empty suit.
My wife was (accidentally) listening to NPR, and a caller to whatever pussified show was on said "I heard Obama say 'I am going to end this war' and I just burst into tears...."
These people are not going to be swayed by the fact that Obama is so naive that he thinks that this story is proof that W is horribly mismanaging the war, because they believe it, too. Just like they probably were proud of America the first time too when they saw Obama winning. CNN did there own enquiry into this. Naturally, they totally avoided the most important point; that is, Obama consistently voting against funding the troops.

This is awesome. Not becasue it could derail his nomination. Although it could, if it progressed fast enough. But because it will likely not progress that quickly. If it makes it past the point where Hillary cannot win, it could be a serious weight around Bam Bam's neck. I believe there are Senate rules for the conduct of Senators. The Senate has oversight of the DOD via the Senate Armed Services Committee, of which Warner was chairman. I don't think you can, as a sitting Senator, go around passing Beauchamp stories which impugns the Senate. That, and the fact that Michelle Bam Bam hates whitey.

Using the Taliban's guns and ammo are tactics reminiscent of those used by Jen-jis Khan.

I love how Obamas gonna change this and fix that and turn washington around and accomplish all this shit Meanwhile- am I crazy or isnt he like a Senator or something? For the first time in my life I agree with John Warner — it's like totally scary man.
Of course, it's kinda hard to like the moron at all especially after this BS: http://michellemalkin.com/2007/06/26/shamnesty-on-the-senate-floor-take-2-plus-is-your-senator-a-teddy-kennedy-republican/ http://michellemalkin.com/2007/06/28/kill-the-bill-shamnesty-showdown/ Posted by: Timothy Watson at February 22, 2008 11:23 PM (vBud5) 20
Again, "Mr. Obama, can you please explain how to safetly clear an unloaded 9mm, Smith & Wesson, semi-autmatic hand gun with no clip (mag) in the chamber? Mr. Obama? Mr. Obama?" I didn't think so................... (hint to those who don't get the irony: The fucking gun is already unloaded and there is no clip (mag) to chamber a round, so there is no need to "clear" the weapon)

Is Obama about to get swiftboated...I mean "ammoed"?
Posted by: JB at February 23, 2008 02:57 AM (y93Nb) 22
This is a classic situation.
According to ABC and CNN the Captain exists and confirmed what Obama says. But he won't be named. (I know, I know). On the other hand nothing he says is new. He speaks of his experience in 2003, apparently early 2003. Since then the logistics problems have been investigated and documented. By early 2003 the Taleban had been greatly weakened and were in hiding. The buildup to invade Iraq was straining the Army. Widely reported and known. The Captain says his men didn't get enough live ammo training in the US, the unit wasn't at full strength. Once in Afghanistan he had some humvees but wanted more, some parts were hard to get, some types of ammo was at times. That is the gist of it. He believes he needed more in 2003. And he is probably right, more would have been better. Rumsfeld famously said 'you go to war with the army you have, not the one you would like to have'. To call this news five years later is a disgrace. But it is politics. Obama tries to exploit our soldiers hardships and the conservatives try to prove him a liar. What crap! Posted by: K at February 23, 2008 04:20 AM (LIGtI) 23
Kat: Wanting more does not mean the army thonks you should have more. I wonder if this guy shopped his tale around to more than one politician. Was Obamma the first? If Obamma was the first why Obamma - maybe the guy is black and felt an affinity towards a fellow whitified brother. Posted by: davod at February 23, 2008 05:31 AM (llh3A) 24
I am willing to give this story a fair hearing it based on stories told by my former fellow soldiers from the 1/124th IN (FLNG) based on a convoy they ran from Jordan to Iraq. It's mostly based on the fact that NG units get no respect (I guess the enemy shoots less when they hear it's a NG unit or something). They are parcelled out to RA units who then care very little about their lodging, mail and even combat logistics. In this instance nobody wanted to supply medium or heavy weapons with ammo leaving them with only their rifles and SAW's for a convoy running hundreds of miles through unsecured territory. I'm also willing to give it a fair hearing based on one other aspect... ...the dems have done everything in their power to short-change the funding of the war; the 2003 date notwithstanding. I think we need to lower the volume on this one.
St. Barak: " I heard from a Army captain, who..." Pres. Bush: "The British Government has learned that..." One of the defenses raised by conservatives in defense of Bush during the whole 16 words fiasco, went basically like this: "Bush did NOT lie. Bush said 'the British Government has learned...' and there's nothing false about that statement." St. Barack said, "I heard ______." Well, you know what? Barak's campaign DID hear from such a Captain, as has now been confirmed. If the Captain was wrong, that's not Barack's fault. As much as I hate to admit it. A fundamental difference being, of course, that the British account of Saddam's pursuit of uranium in Africa is entirely accurate. A hearsay lie and a hearsay truth are not equivalent. Sir: For an Example of the parlous state to which Tory mismanagement of the instant War has reduc'd the armed Might of this Island, you need look no further then a Ms. lately receiv'd by me from a repect'd Post-captain in the Royal Navy, who informs me that, so grievously reduc'd in Estate is the aforenamed Bulwark of our Security, that its stalwart Captains, so far from sinking the enemy's Men-of-War, as one might expect, are driven to the expedient of capturing them for use 'gainst their erstwhile Masters. The intrepid Capt. Aubrey (for that is his name) assures me that he himself has led any Number of these "cutting-out expeditions"-- for you see that they are given a generally understood Name of their own, so commonplace is the Practice. If you would see the majesty and terror of the King's Arms restor'd, you cannot fail to support the Whigs at the next Election.

I AM HAPPY THAT OBAMA HAVE TO GIVE SOME EXPLANATION FOR SOMETHING OUT OF HIS MOUTH. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHO THIS MAN IS AND WHAT IS HE ABOUT EXCEPT THE FACT THAT HE IS A ROCK STAR AND AGES 17 THRU 29 WORSHIPS AND OPRAH OWNS HIM.

St. Barack said, "I heard ______." Well, you know what? Barak's campaign DID hear from such a Captain, as has now been confirmed. If the Captain was wrong, that's not Barack's fault. Essentially true although the Cpt. was pandering for political points unlike British intel b/c the motive for this exchange via this particular candidate isn't a redoubling of efforts, more funding and support but abject surrender in Afghanistan no less, the presumably "good war of 9/11". It reeks of politicking a war-effort. Posted by: Mr Snuggle Bunny at February 23, 2008 12:26 PM (fIJM/) 30
"It reeks of politicking a war-effort."
Which is exactly what the Dems have been doing since 2001. And which Republicans have attempted to point out repeatedly. And to little or no effect. It would be nice if this was another Beauchamp, or more appropriately a "Christmas in Cambodia" but it's not. We got too far out in front of this. For example, we jumped all over the 'Captains don't lead platoons' angle and got our dicks stepped on by the fact that he's a Captain now, but was a Lt. at the time. Which makes our complaints look shrill and silly -- an attribute that I'd rather not snatch away from the Dems. Now we're stuck arguing that "Well, he implied that our troops had to go after the Taliban's weapons because they were undersupplied, when in fact it was just opportunistic supplementing of their own armaments, which happens in every war.." blah, blah, blah. Suddenly, conservatives are the ones on the defensive... again, because we got too far out in front. I know it looked big and juicy at the time, but it's a big nothingburger. Posted by: CS at February 23, 2008 12:48 PM (Rg8DN) 31
I think conservatives are being fooled into thinking Obama is more popular than he is. There are plenty of racist white liberals who didn't like George Bush but don't really have anything against McCain. Posted by: Dirk at February 23, 2008 12:50 PM (AJx67) 32
"A fundamental difference being, of course, that the British account of
Saddam's pursuit of uranium in Africa is entirely accurate. A hearsay
lie and a hearsay truth are not equivalent."
1. There's not a lot to back up that it was a lie. 2. In any event, this puts us in the position of having to go after the Captain at least as much as Barak. This isn't territory that's likely to gain enough to offset the potential downsides of either getting our dicks stepped on again if they can find corroboration, or coming off as shrill and silly and attacking a veteran. I say it should be dropped... but if not, at the very least, conservatives need to investigate this -- thoroughly -- before spouting off again. Posted by: CS at February 23, 2008 12:53 PM (Rg8DN) 33
The other, and I believe more shrewd, way to approach this would be to concede the charge, and then turn things back to his inexperience.
"If Mr. Obama feels that our troops are inadequately equipped, it is fully within his power as a Senator to fully fund the war effort, which he has repeatedly voted against. But instead of giving the troops what they need, Senator Obama would rather question and criticize our military's logistics professionals, drawing no doubt on his vast military knowledge gained as a community organizer in Chicago." "If Mr. Obama had served in the military instead of hanging out with marxist mentors and weather underground terrorists, he might understand what it takes for our military to send 200,000 people halfway around the globe, especially when Sentaors back home refuse to fund them properly." Posted by: CS at February 23, 2008 01:09 PM (Rg8DN) 34
The Obamahdi knew that this story was ancient history, but since that was all he had, he went with it. "The best way to lie is to tell the truth creatively."
What this does show is that the Obamahdi will be playing fast and loose with the truth, and the members of the Hope & Change Fanclub are more than willing to come along after him and fend off any criticism of his sloppy statements, as long as put some "plausible deniability" truth in his statements. Get used to it folks. This guy has studied the 1992 Clinton rise to power, and unlike Sen.Hillary!, has talent to pull it off. Posted by: Raoul Ortega at February 23, 2008 01:14 PM (xuymE) 35
Anyone who's been in the military for longer than 2 minutes saw right through Obama's bullshit story. Gotta love the way the Dems selectively bring up 'anecdotes' like that, but won't breathe a word of the fantastic job we did beating the the Taliban and Al Qaeda to a fucking slushy pulp.
