"Security Issue" At Giuliani Campaign Event In Florida

Event had to be moved from an office building to an airplane hangar.

There is a large police presence at the hangar. Media is being asked to preset for a security screening, and officials from the Transportation Security Administration are on site preparing for screening. This has not occurred at any previous Giuliani event.

No other details yet but the campaign says they will release more information later.

UPDATE: Nothing to see here, move along.

The decision to move the event was purely precautionary.
"It was non-credible and not specifically directed at any one person," said the official.
The threat was described as "something like a bomb threat."

2 Gabriel, the secret service can, of course. While a cynic would say Giuliani benefits from these things, the truth is that running for prez can be a scary thing to do. I hope whatever Ron Paul nazi is behind this is broguht to justice and, if female, forced to marry into one of Mitt Romney's wife-harems that I heard about but am not implying direct knowlege of.

I believe at this stage in the game the candidates have US Secret Service protection. Hell yes they can co-opt the TSA, as should be.

6 US Secret Service is the big dog in the arena. They get what they want. That includes from the military. My husband told me about a time when a general tried to deny support to a BJ Clinton event in a conservative area. The SS got involved, and the general got a nice call from a 4 star. Suddenly the support materialized.

9 Gabriel, yes, in fact, the Secret Service can override all other agencies, and does so more than occasionally, if in the interest of protecting one of its primary subjects.

There must be reasonable suspicion that the action is actually necessary, and without a warrant, any information obtained cannot be used in court, but the Secret Service largely is able to defeat most bureaucratic entanglements. It's not as though they ever ask for very much. Access to some rooftops, maybe mocing to a new building at the last minute, etc etc.

I have heard of a few times the Secret Service and some other agency butted heads. I've never heard of the Secret Service not getting pretty much what it wanted. Keep in mind that the Department of Homeland Security has reduced the number of agencies that the Secret Service has to deal with (the SS is part of DHS).

Kinda cool. The Secret Service has a great record for ethics, mainly because their limited mission keeps the spies in the CIA and FBI. When the Secret Service ask for something something, they generally really do need it.

12 Yeah, I've been poking around the US Code and am coming up empty. A quick search through the CFR also got me nothing.

BTW funky, I tried looking for info about Huckabee's pardons, but had trouble getting specific information out of the Arkansas corrections people. I'm waiting for someone to email me back.

15 Bruce, can you imagine just how devastating it would be if someone learned that Rudy's campaign was linked to an assassination threat?

It's not like you just go to a public phone and make the call. Right now (if they haven't already figured out who made the call) someone is analyzing whatever they have from the threat. Looking at cameras from street intersections and running hundreds of plates of those in the vicinity of the phone call, email, or whatever. I don't think Rudy's people are stupid.

Ron Paul is linked to domestic terrorists, neo-nazis. It's extremely likely one of Ron Paul's many racist supporters who share Ron Paul's documented racist and infantile views is behind this. Like Ron Paul, this threat is a failure. I mean, who do you think is crazy enough to do this?
