Romney: I'm the Candidate of Change

Groan

Romney now is highlighting how he has spent much of his life as a change agent梬hether as a businessman, Olympics CEO or Massachusetts governor.

"If you want to see change in Washington, it's going to take somebody going there who knows how to change things," he said Friday night in Manchester, just hours after he and his staff decided to shift emphasis.

Somebody help me out, is anybody not the candidate of change?

1 Meh, a better alternative to Fuckabee.  Seriously, Romney/Thompson or the other way around.  I'm pissed off at this point.

2

This isn't going to help Romney at all. Yes, folks, we seem to have a vacuum. Which means that either Thompson, Giuliani, or McCain will fill it, because I don't see Huckabee gaining more support than he already has.

I wish one of the candidates would say: "I'm against change! Let's keep everything the same. Status quo is my middle name."

It would be a refreshing change.

9 It's like all of these politicians are running against a Constitutionally required non-runner: George W. Bush.

We know there will be a change come January 20, 2009. We get it. So now let's stop with the bull shit rhetoric.

Who's this Romney guy?

I thought the only one running on the Republican side was Huckabee.

Posted by: Potosi Joel at January 05, 2008 01:09 PM (TPRbZ)

13 Romney has the brain and tools to effectuate change, meaning shrinking government, its the kind of change we want, he knows how to get it. Huckabee and McCain kind of change=big government, small brains. Edwards and Obama, big government, no brains.

Would someone stand up for the status quo ante?

All this "change" talk re-affirms my belief that all of the major candidates are reptillian shape-shifters. Too bad Weekly World News isn't around anymore to announce who the "good" aliens are supporting. I always went with them.

I was being sarcastic, satirical, ironic; whatever you want to call it.

Seriously, politicians have been using the "Let's make a change" slogan - or variations of it - since Moses was a boy.

Posted by: Michael Laurence at January 05, 2008 01:28 PM (M0QEs)

18 This is the problem, well one of them, with Mitt. It's like, "What do you want? Most conservative? Done. Change? Absolutely. What else you want?  Just let me know."

He's just too focus grouped, too packaged.

Ultimately, I think Mitt is a manager who doesn't have much of an ideology. He tries to play the role of a true believer but he doesn't wear it well.

Romney has the brain and tools to effectuate change, meaning shrinking government, its the kind of change we want, he knows how to get it.

You mean change by shrinking government programs like reducing or eliminating farm subsidies?  Nope, he's for the status quo.

Change like reducing special interest group spending?  Nope, he's for increased special interest group spending, like corporate welfare ("investment") for the Michigan auto industry.

Change by reducing foriegn aid to third world countries that just ends up in a dictators pocket?  Nope, he wants to increase that so other countries like us more.

Change by reducing entitlement spending like the bloated Medicare Reform Act?  Nope- he's for increased spending.

Change like eliminating the useless Department of Education?  Nope, he's for the wasteful and bureaucratic status quo.

Change by increasing the federal government's role in health care?  Yep- you got me there because he's for that.

To be fair, he does want change in one area- he wants to change federal law to ban some guns.  It's perhaps the only issue he's been consistant on.

For all his overly slick, political handler driven rhetoric in which he tries to mimic the conservative that he's never been, when you get him down to specifics he's just another big spending, big government "compassionate conservative".  That would explain why he's been so vague on policy, instead relying on slick, pandering ads, platitudes and his presidential hair instead of running on detailed policy.

But does Romney have a midget with a broom campaigning with him? Or isn't he for the little guy as well?

I just saw Byron York's entry at the Corner, he seems sceptical too. I wonder if he's going to get kicked off the Corner.

I can't wait for Hugh Hewitt's next tongue bath declaring how any objective reader must be for Romney now that he's come out for change.

Geeze, what a pity party we got going here.

I think we have good candidates. McCain the hero, Romney the businessman, Fred the Federalist, Rudy the crisis manager, and Huckabee the nice guy.

No one is perfect, but these guys all give us enough of what we need in a leader.

Of course, in the worst case scenerio I want McCain, but you all knew that.

39 I can't understand why Fred Thompson won't do better in New Hampshire than he's polling right now.

By all media accounts, NH'ers are for smaller government and low taxes, and that's basically what Fred has been preaching since day 1.  His coming in third in Iowa cements him as a viable candidate.  I hope he can push his message at the debate and 'shock the world' some more.

Fred came in third in Wyoming, BTW.  That's flying under the radar.  Hunter was 2nd, Mitt was 1st.

43 I think Mccain Thompson and Rudy can beat HIllary.  Maybe Romney, but almost certainly not.

I think Mccain can beat Obama.  Maybe Thompson, and I suppose maybe Rudy.

I think even Huck would beat Edwards.

I would prefer Thompson at this point, but I'll all be happy with Rudy.  I'll grudgingly support Mccain and Romney.

And I will vote against Huck.  I'll vote for any of th e dems over Huck.  At least a GOP congress would fight Hillary or Obama.  What do we have with a liberal republican?  We've seen how much power Bush has over the gop congress.  He is unstoppable.  Huck would be even worse.

January 05, 2008 Romney Takes Early Lead In Wyoming

AP reports that Mitt Romney has taken the early lead in the WY GOP caucus today, potentially providing him with a welcome but barely noted bright spot as he struggles to regain momentum in NH. Romney easily led the overall vote with more than 50%. Duncan Hunter was second with 21% and Fred Thompson, who hadn't won any delegates, was third with 17%. Results were expected to pour in throughout the day.
