You Keep Using that Word...

I do not think it means what you think it means.

DALLAS (Reuters) - Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said on Monday that his surging popularity was drawing attacks from opponents and money from supporters as a new poll showed him in a virtual tie nationally with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The folksy former Arkansas governor has vaulted from single-digit figures just a few short weeks ago to the lead spot in opinion polls in the crucial state of Iowa.

John McCain repeats the refrain, while conveniently forgetting how well he knows Mitt Romney.

Here's an example of the horrible, horrible attacks that Huckabee is enduring. Oh, the humanity! Oh wait...that's only one public figure contrasting his record with another public figure.

Where's the attack?

As far as I'm concerned, a public figure's record is fair game for comparison and criticism. I really wish candidates (all of them, not just Huckabee) would stop whining about being "attacked" when other candidates have the audacity to point out matters of fact. When most of us look for a job, our record is taken into account. It shouldn't be any different for those running for the biggest job in the country.

In short: buck up, you whiners. America doesn't elect crybabies.

America doesn't elect crybabies? Geez, the entire Democrat is made up of whiners, who make up their second largest voting bloc. Their largest voting bloc is, of course, dead people, felons, people who don't exist, the comatose, illegal aliens, and people who vote multiple times.

Aside from that unfortunate sentence, it's a great post. Huckabee should shut up and accept the fact that anybody running for president is going to be "attacked."

3 To: Slublog Re: Use of the "A" word It always is inappropriate to use a LSMPA member's record against him or her, unless of course it is a more-liberal member doing the attack. As such, we will vigorously defend against any and all such attacks. However, if a member of the LSMPA uses a non-member's record against him (there are no "her" members we are aware of), we will not only support that, we will point out the hypocrisy of the target's complaints, whether or not that target complains or has engaged in the same behavior. Please make a note of it.

5 Huckabee mystifies me. I just cannot understand his popularity in Iowa, or anywhere for that matter. He's a populist opportunist, saying whatever sounds good at the moment. Aren't those guys traditionally Independents or Democrats? The guy makes my skin crawl. He's one of those whose nomination would make it hard for me to get out of bed long enough to vote in November 08, since he's going to lose to Hillary! anyhow. When it comes to promising a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, and candy for all the children he's not going to be able to compete with Hillary! because she's had more practice. Can't we just forget this guy?

Ah, so it's a "comparison-and-critique" ad, kind of like the one the Dems will run (should it snow in Hell) of Romney, then as Governor and now as candidate.  Cool.

I have to say, though, that like many words in the English language, "attack" has plenty enough gradations to comprehend what Mitt! is being forced to do here to salvage his...I was gonna say "plummeting campaign," but that would imply that he was ever in a position to plummet from in the first place.

Still, there's nothing quite so sweet as watching the Christians and the Camels of the Republican base go at it tooth and nail.  Or is it, nail and tooth?

I have to say, though, that English is very rich language, with plenty of words containing wide gradations of meaning, such that “attack” can indeed fairly characterize what the Romney campaign is doing here to rescue their…I was gonna say, “plummeting campaign,” but that would comprehend Mitt having ever been in a position from which to plummet.

11 Clinton wasn't a whiner. He sent his whiny minions to do his whining for him, like Lanny Davis and Sid Blumenthal. Little pussy men mewling about on national TV.

True enough about Bill. He never whined. Whining requires that you admit that something is true but that you should be attacked for it, whatever it is.

Bill denied, denied, denied, but never whined.
