YOUEEs Are Using Shotguns
Update: And A Hunting Rifle, Too?

Gateway Pundit has links to articles, video, and photos right here. Seventy-seven police officers have been injured, some with shotgun wounds.

The violence was more intense than during three weeks of rioting in 2005, said the official, Patrice Ribeiro. Police were shot at and are facing "genuine urban guerillas with conventional weapons and hunting weapons," Ribeiro said.

Some officers were hit by shotgun pellets, Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said. She said there were six serious injuries, "people who notably were struck in the face and close to the eyes."

They're learning. The YOUEEs were prepared for a more violent clash this time. So far sixty three vehicles and five buildings have burned and that's only after the second day. Will Sarkozy put up with three more weeks of this?

Update [Ace]: From an earlier MSNBC account, according to genghis:

"Youths were seen firing buckshot at police and reporters. A police union official said a round from a hunting rifle pierced the body armor of one officer who suffered a serious shoulder wound."

I don't see that in the current MSNBC/AP story, so perhaps they've stealth-corrected. These guys know nothing about weapons, so they may have mistaken shotguns firing solid slugs as rifle shots.

He's already put up with two days of this crap, why not another 19? They've poured money into these areas since 2005 and it hasn't helped.

The way Sarkozy talks sometimes, I half expect him to send in the tanks, riot gear, maybe even fully-armed SWAT teams.

But this is France.  Unfortunately, an army of rednecks from Texas armed with rubber band guns would get them to surrender.

And yet, there's just this feeling I have that Sarkozy might just be the one Frenchie with balls.  You know how your dad used to say, when you cried, "I'll give you something to cry about!"?  How awesome would it be if Sarkozy gave them something to really complain about?  Some good, old-fashioned "rights violations" are what I'm getting at.

Truth:  this kind of thing is not going to end until some of these thugs are killed.  I'm not talking Kent State, either.  I'm talking full-fledged Hungary '56 style crackdown.

5 They are no longer rioters, and they are no longer rioting. These are premeditated attacks on civilian institutions, which is an act of terror; and premeditated attacks on government institutions, which is an act of war.

Sarkozy has to do the right: declare martial law, send in the military, arrest those who resist, and try them as enemies of the state.

Posted by: JB at November 27, 2007 11:50 AM (i1jdV)

6 This is the moment when Sarkozy can emerge like Reagan or fold like Jimmah Cahtah.  Reagan set the guidelines for future dealings with him with the Air Traffic Controllers strike and subsequent firings.  Jimmah revealed his balless policies on almost every issue leading everyone to believe that he - and by extension  -, the U.S. could be had.

7 The funny thing is that France has got quite a sizeable, modern armed forces with some good equipment. If only they'd use it.
The rioters are using shotguns. Time to respond in kind. Forget the rubber bullets, beanbags, teatgas, watercannons and niceties...

10 That's the thing about Europe -- they claim that the US is short on moderation and nuance.  But Europeans have a history of tolerating all kinds of crap that would never fly in the US, and then they snap and out come the firing squads and guillotines.

12 (correction to my previous post: right thing*)

Anyway, the people elected Sarkozy to take care of these scum. I'm sure he's coming up with something. Seeing the photo of them dancing on a police car, I can't help but think that if I was in Sarkozy's position, I'd send in a few helicopter-gunships to clean the mess up. Maybe that's a little extreme, though...

Fully 1/4 to 1/3rd of their sizeable, modern armed forces with some good equipment is comprised of muslim immigrants. Hence, some trepidation.

15 They should kill a bunch and deport a lot more. The French public won't mind - if they've left their old people to die in the heat, why would they care about YOUEEs dying in the streets. As long as they clean up the mess afterward.

Posted by: roy at November 27, 2007 12:36 PM (QBYjk)

16 I didn't know there was a high percentage of Muslims in the French military. In Britain we have the 'problem' of an underrepresentation of Muslims in the forces, which, as the quotation marks would suggest, seems more of a bonus than a problem to me.

To what degree is French television reporting these events? What about the rest of Europe?

What's AFP's editorial position on these uprisings riots disturbances?

Is France 2 bothering to video tape (and broadcast live) any of this?  The next Mo alDura could be among these YOUEEs, and maybe this time all actors will get it right.

To what degree is French television reporting these events? What about the rest of Europe?

With regard to the dramatic increase in rioting that happens every November, I think they are covering it. It's news. It's all over the place.

With regard to the constant non-stop rioting that has occured every night for years, they are not covering it because it's not news. It's normal. 20-30 cars? In France, they call that Tuesday. 80 cars is a riot.

What the Euro media I hear does not cover at all and hides under the rug is the riots that occur in some other countries, like the ones I've heard occur in Denmark, the Netherlands or even, occaisionally, the UK.

I think there was some rather intense rioting in Belgium back when we last heard about France that was completely and entirely suppressed in the media and denied by officials.

Posted by: Entropy at November 27, 2007 01:04 PM (m6c4H)

21 I think it's time for a little Chicago wisdom:

"Malone: You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way!"

They pull a shotgun, you pull one of these.

If I develop aspiration pneumonia due to Diet Coke inhalation I'm blaming you, Entropy.

I agree, this isn't rioting, this is an act of civil war.  Once the shooting starts, shooting back is just spiffy by me.

24 I really detest the French for a number of reasons, but I think the weakness here is political, not military. If Sarkozy really wanted to crack down on these bad actors the French Special Forces can be frightening.  I wouldn't want to go up against any country's elite fighting group without a whole lot of support.

Posted by: bonhomme at November 27, 2007 03:15 PM (jvG2F)

25 Simple solution, and one I think Sark has the balls to use. D.G.S.E.

26 How long does it take to move a Legion Task force to Paris? figure 24 Hrs for the government  to decide this more then just the regular rioting. I guess it would take about 36 hrs to get Legion into position, so I guess we will soon learn if Sarkozy can back up what he says.

Posted by: steve at November 27, 2007 06:05 PM (JM9i1)

27 Sorry, Steve, but the Legion is specifically banned by French law from operating within the country. I agree they'd scare the coon dog shit out of any sane individual - and many insane ones - but it's a no-go situation. On the other hand, the DGSE is perfectly suited to operate in country and they happen to be one of the best counter-terrorism units in the world. Surprising, being French and all, but true.

28 I found the version of the AP story where the police union official mentions an officer being shot by a rifle round. It's at CBSNews.com.

Posted by: genghis at November 28, 2007 12:40 AM (HwY1l)

29 MSNBC had switched to a longer version of the story between the time I read the original and Ace got to it. The rifle quote is missing from other sites which have the later AP story posted, so I'm inclined to believe it was AP, not MSNBC that deleted it.
