Why not cut out the middleman of ratings failure and pass the savings on to the public?

She says the deal was almost inked but got scrapped because word got out.

Does this make sense? Were they planning to keep the show secret all through its run?

I don't know if anyone cares about more info, but I read on TVGuide.com (yeah, I'm awesome like that) that our dear Rosie wanted only a year contract, but MSNBC has already sold most of its 2008 ad space at ultra low prices based on their ultra low ratings of this year. So if she'll be gone by next year, it wouldn't really matter even if she got Grey's Anatomy-sized ratings (which...aahahahahaha). With her "celebrity"-sized salary, they won't be able to make a profit.
