la'Affaire Rebecca Aguilar poll

By now everyone is aware some twit reporter ambushed a 70 year old guy who waxed a couple of perps who tried to rob his place of business (which doubles as his residence) and she has been suspended for her egregious behavior and obvious biased questioning. A commenter Mekan at CY suggested a poll to see what is the most despised profession in America today...so here it is. I added another choice for armed robbers and arsonists to Mekan's list...they needed some love too. Naturally I disabled all the multiple vote protections, cuz that's so much more fun, so you can hit those buttons like a lab ferret whacking a pedal on the crack dispenser and the votes should count.

Your title
What profession is the most despised in America?
70 Year Old Store Owner
News Reporter
Lawyer
Politician
Armed robbers and arsonists

The early exit polling results are in and its looking like armed robbers and arsonists aren't despised as much as politicians. I kinda thought it might work out that way...

The rest is still up in the air. Apparently some anti-capitalist commies (or perhaps WalMart executives) have voted for the 70 year old shopkeepers, but not so many they can't be dealt with.

OK, when I voted "news reporter" I got ads for political stuff.  When I voted "armed robbers and arsonists" I got ads for naked pictures of Whitney Houston?!?

Is Ms. Houston popular among the armed robber and arsonist demographic or something?  I guess they might be the last ones who would be interested in nude pics of a formerly beautiful woman who turned herself into a crack-ho look-a-like.

2 Weeee! This is fun! Gotta love a poll with the balls to have absolutely no pretense whatsoever...

3 All it get are ads for leather gear and crisco when I hit the politician button.

Somehow, "Ron Paul is the only man who can save America" won the poll.

I didn't even think that was an option...

I voted for the news reporter first and planned on voting two more times to include lawyer and politician except that I just limited to one more time for the politician.  I figured that basically almost all politicians are lawyers but not all lawyers are politicians so I just killed two lawyers with one stone.

6 Man....why, oh why isn't "Diarist for Daily Kos" an option?

7 why, oh why isn't "Diarist for Daily Kos" an option?

It has to do with the semantic difference between pity and despising.

I voted 'Politician.'

I'd rather my chidren went into careers in the comparatively respectible porn industry than that they become politicians.

9 I had to vote news reporter. This is a conservative country. If we had a completely neutral news media, Democrats wouldn't get away with half the shit they do.

Update:

http://community.myfoxdfw.com/blogs/sadoc/2007/10/18/Ms_Aguliars_Response

"I'm sorry you took my story the wrong way."

Not "I'm sorry I presented it in such a way as to be easily misinterpreted as my ambushing an old man and badgering him to tears."  It's YOUR damn fault it came off wrong, not hers.

She's nauseating.

Are pimps and whores covered under the umbrella of "Politician"? Cause, if not,  I'm staying home. And don't start talking your shit about SCOTUS nominees. I'm watching the 700 club and I don't want to be bothered right now.

Are pimps and whores covered under the umbrella of "Politician"?

That would be an insult to the entire sex-for-hire industry. There's a limit to what whores will do for money. Politicians have a 'wider stance.'

RE: the 17 people who voted for "70 year old shopowners."

The poll is presented in a blue box. So I think they may have misinterpreted the question as "What is the most despised profession in blue states?"

Well, as someone who lives in Dallas, I've taken the time to go to Fox 4's website and ask them to fire Ms. Rebecca Aguilar.

This is getting a lot of play on talk radio here -

The guy had called the police 42 times in the past, but they weren't responding.

He lives above his business so this was a home-break-in situation; not just defense of property.

Most importantly, it was said that FOX has embargoed all the video on the net and that YouTube has pulled it down.  I don't know the means by which their attorney's got it pulled down.

if another journalist tried this, i.e. standing between the door and and seat so you couldn't drive away, what would be the best way to handle this? push them away? remove them by force?

Just sayin'.

21 Lokki--I bet his property isn't worth squat because of all the thugs who have ruined the neighborhood too.  42 calls to nonresponsive police!  I really, really feel for these old folks who stay a few years too long in deteriorating neighborhoods and then get basically stuck there because they can't afford to sell out and move elsewhere.

"if another journalist tried this, i.e. standing between the door and and seat so you couldn't drive away, what would be the best way to handle this? push them away? remove them by force?"

Personally, I'm all for the "punch them in the face and run them over repeatedly" option, but legally speaking, the best thing to do is remind them that by preventing your freedom of movement without probable cause, they are violating your 4th Amendment rights.  Of course, these are reporters, a naturally dull species from an intelligence standpoint, so the lesson on the Bill of Rights might be met with drooling and breast-beating.

It is times like these when I wonder if society is beyond saving.  Y'know that sci-fi villain who wants to use some God-like power to erase all of history and rewrite it in his image?  I could totally do that.

Glad to see lawyers pulling ahead of robbers and arsonists.  As a law student, I'll tell you all this: lawyers deserve to be much more reviled than they are.  However, they deserve it for reasons other than those popularly thought.  For example, giving a criminal defendant a full and fair defense?  Totally acceptable (this does not count cases where the lawyers attempt to do so through subversion of the justice system... which is a problem distinct from their acting as counsel for a defendant).  But the way law schools are run?  Completely unacceptable, tragic waste of high potential and valuable time in order to accomplish severe brainwashing and give credence to all manner of grievance theaters.

What about the lawyers for the Marines who are suing ABSCAM Jack Murtha?

How do you get them out from between the seat and the door?

I'd suggest the Tasertm line of hand-held self defense products.  Light, portable, and doubly effective when employed against a reporter self-righteous assknob who's conducting her assault on ambush video.

33 Pardon the quibble but journalism hardly qualifies as a "profession".  Professions have standards, licensing, and governing bodies, as do medicine, law, engineering, and architecture, whereas the prerequisites of journalism are an undisciplined tendency to verbosity, a will to commit "justice", and an aversion to anything even remotely acquainted with mathematics.
