Sistani slams media bias about Iraq

Coming from a guy who appears to play his cards very close to the chest and is usually pretty reserved in his public proclamations, this is a fairly major statement.

“Your country is rich [referring to Iraqi's] and I want you to set aside differences between yourselves and your Sunni brothers and stand like a formidable mountain against attempts by certain satellite networks which try to disrupt this unity because these networks exaggerate about the reports of deaths and explosions and depict them in a way as if tribal war is underway in Iraq,”

Of course complete silence ensued in the western media -- this was reported by the Iranian press.

Hmmm. We have the attempted charm campaign by Ahmadinejad, we have Maliki suddenly announcing that the sectarian strife is coming to an end, and we now have Sistani telling his peeps to cool it for a while. I think the shiites have figured out that if they get the violence under control the US "occupiers" will leave. I think they also are smart enough to realize that the Sunnis are playing nice with us, and they had better get on board fast or they are gonna lose some territory or something. Once we leave, Iran (shiite) has what they want, which is Iraq. The Kurds are screwed, as evidenced by the Maliki government agreement with Turkey that was posted yesterday.

Shrug. And the dems and the Bush administration will fall all over themselves to believe Maliki and Sistani, and will ignore the Iranian puppetmaster behind the curtain. Hey, I guess it works for me if it gets our people out of there, except for one thing--my son will be draft age in 10 years. Is this gonna come back to bite us in the ass because we were too beholden to muslim "international opinion" and PC pussified ROE to get the job done now?
