Rudy Proposes Asking Israel To Join NATO, "Setting Back" Iran, And Giving Me A Two-Hour Full-Body Hands-Free Orgasm

Of course it's a pander; our European allies aren't even eager to honor their current NATO commitments nevermind any fresh ones made to "that shitty little country," as an English diplomat undiplomatically called Israel.

Still, I like being pandered to. Who doesn't?

Via Newsday, by Tom Brune.

LONDON - Rudy Giuliani talked tough on Iran yesterday, proposing to expand NATO to include Israel and warning that if Iran's leaders go ahead with their goal to be a nuclear power "we will prevent it, or we will set them back five or 10 years."

...

Giuliani's implied threat of a U.S. or allied attack on Iran's nuclear capabilities goes further than the hard line against Iran by most other Republican presidential hopefuls, and even exceeds the stern warnings of the Bush White House.

But it was his threatening words aimed at Iran that caught the most attention, even prompting GOP rival Fred Thompson to schedule a briefing today to offer his views of Iran.

...

"If they get to the point that they're going to become a nuclear power, we will prevent it, or we will set them back five or 10 years," he added.

"It isn't a threat, it's just a reality. And I think if that reality sinks in, there is a better chance that we will never have to use a military option to deal with them," he said.

While Giuliani did not explicitly address the implications for Iran of adding Israel to NATO in his speech, his aides later highlighted a 2006 Heritage Foundation paper by Nile Gardiner, a former Thatcher aide who was announced as a new Giuliani adviser yesterday.

Forget NATO. The alliance of the Future is US-India-Japan-Australia. Israel should join it. All these countrie's Navies are already having exercises together. Wargaming scenarios involve

-blockading certain shipping choke-points like Hormuz Straits and Malacca Straits

-intediction of hostile ships on high seas

-Assaults on mid-to-large size naval powers (read China)

The limeys ran out of Basra with their tail between their hind legs. The 'Great Britain' you talk about does not exist anymore.

Still, I like being pandered to. Who doesn't?

I don't- I'd rather have realistic solutions than ones with no chance in hell of ever being implemented.

This happens every election cycle- candidates lay out their plan to address whatever the crisis du jour is to win votes, but it never happens... and they almost certainly knew from the start that it wouldn't actually happen.

Sure, it helps give an idea of where a candidate stands on an issue and all that, but whether it's Ron Paul wanting to return to the gold standard or Rudy wanting NATO to accept Israel as a member, it's an insult to my intelligence to run on plans that won't and can't come to fruition.

Great Britian really doesn't exist anymore.

It's the United Kingdom now, and the Union is failing at that - the Irish have gotten out and now the Scots and the Welsh want out.

In another 30 years, if they keep up with the multiculti nonsense and no Thatcher emerges with another Falklands, it will be 4 countries.

8 Tushar, I would include some of the eastern European states. Other than that, your new aliance is right on the money.

Mark,

you are right. Poland immediately comes to mind. But the Eastern Europeans have a very regional outlook. I doubt they are worried about, and willing to spend blood/treasure on countering the emerging Sino-Islamic axis.

I think that'll change as soon as one of the ex-soviet republics falls into the hands of the Islamofascists.

14 Hey Rosetta, your first link is dead and the second takes me to an idiotic troofer site.  Can you just tell us what the bumper sticker said?

15 Or do we have to see it to appreciate it?

16 See, that's the kind of smack Giuliani brings to the table.!!! He's your crazy

20

I don't know what happened to my first link but the second one works.

I think it's funnier if you see it but it's your typical campaign bumper sticker with the flag waving in the upper right-hand corner and it says "CHENEY SATAN '08".

Hahahahaha.  I LOVE that.

Posted by: Rosetta at September 20, 2007 04:24 PM (omkIU)

21 Is that bumper sticker really supposed to be an attack on Cheney?  It might very  well be a compliment; the humor is double-edged to the point of ambiguity. I could very well see Frank J. over at imao.us putting out something like that.

I'm going to get one, too.

Posted by: OregonMuse at September 20, 2007 04:36 PM (WTnHh)

I like with the Cheney,Satan '08 ticket.

Satan will be confined to being chief guest at events, and kissing babies. Cheney will do the real wet work.

23 Fine hollowpoint, be cranky, but does anybody here have any doubts that Rudy would direct his state department to stamp "go piss up a rope" on Ahmadinejad's visa request?

25 I sort of agree with #1 about NATO. There are a lot of good people in Europe but they are not prevailing. Our interests lie in the rim from Japan/Korea around to India.

And as long as the US is in NATO the other nations can totally ignore the fact of their helplessness. And if they can they will.

Finding we have left will wake them up. If that can be done at all.

Notice some recent news. Putin is trying to lure Europe out of NATO into an alliance with Russia. He knows Russia is weakening and has no allies. If Russia had good options why in heaven's name would they want to partner with the inept EU?

Unlike many I don't consider China a big problem. I think they want to be strong and unaligned but will not be aggressive.

They want Taiwan, that is the one thing they will not cede. Eventually they will reclaim it peacefully like Hong Kong.

26

Is that bumper sticker really supposed to be an attack on Cheney?

OregonMuse,

I'm assuming that's the case because of the website that's selling them and the car I saw it on also had some drivel about "No More Blood for Oil" or something.

I agree with you that it could easily have been something that one of us could have come up with.  In any event I like it and I would bet money that if Cheney saw it he would like it too.

I'm jealous there's not a "Rosetta Satan '08" sticker.
