DREAM Act For "Young" Illegals: Not As Bad As First Thought -- Much, Much Worse!

That's Kaus' take, and since we're not talking about the war or taxes or health care I believe him.

There is no upper age limit. Any illegal alien can walk into a U.S. Customs and Immigration Services office and declare that he is eligible. For example, a 45 year old can claim that he illegally entered the United States 30 years ago at the age of 15. There is no requirement that the alien prove that he entered the United States at the claimed time by providing particular documents. The DREAM Act's Section 4(a) merely requires him to "demonstrate" that he is eligible—which in practice could mean simply making a sworn statement to that effect.

Bonus: Once you so much as file an application claiming DREAM eligibility, you can't be deported.

They're just not going to stop with the amnesty, are they?

This is the most dangerous form of legislation-- the kind that easily slips past public scrutiny because no one is paying attention outside of Congress. They can do pretty much anything with unexamined bills -- and they seem intent on doing precisely what we forbade them to last time we were actually notified of their intentions.

4 Like I said before!!!

You still don't get it, do you? Amnesty will win. That's what it does. That's all it does! You can't stop it. It'll wade through you, reach down your throat, and pull your fucking heart out.

The elites on both side of the isle want amnesty, they will stop at nothing.
We just fought an epic battle and it seemed as if we had won, but we were
so, so naive. We can not win. We on the enforcement side simply don't have the free time to keep the pressure on our overlords. They will chip away slowly but surely. It will start with the dream act, then spread to other smaller, incremental bills. We are truly screwed.

5 I feel almost like they should make crossing the border without clearing immigration and customs a crime or something like "unlawful entry"... But that just seems so mean...

...Maybe we should just give them housewarming gifts, muffins and a cassarole, and maybe a house so they don't feel so bad, and the job my neighbor's kid would have had if he wasn't undercut  for minimum wage  (with labor burden), medical careat the e-room because they probably don't pay for insurance, and it doesn't seem fair that they would have to pay out of state rates for college...

8 In my opinion, anyone who votes for an amnesty bill should have an immagrant day center created across the street from where they live.

Posted by: McLovin at September 19, 2007 12:16 AM (ipez1)

9 Hey Good News! According to NumbersUSA (one of the groups leading the fight against amnesty) the vote in the Senate could come as early as today (Wednesday the 19th).

So far they only have 18 No votes confirmed. That's 23 short of what we need.

As the famous saying goes, " Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder."

10 Sometimes ya got nothin' but "What the fuck is wrong with you people?!?!"

It's not like sneaking a provision through after it's defeated is unprecedented. This was a definitely a "saw that comin'" moment.

11

It will start with the dream act, then spread to other smaller, incremental bills.

No it won't.  It will start with the Dream Act.  It will spread to activist judges who legislate from the bench.  Congress will do nothing more than sit back, put its collective hands behind its collective heads, lean back in big leather chair, and smile a knowing, self-satisfied smile.

We are truly screwed.

Well said, brother.

Posted by: Paulitics at September 19, 2007 12:56 AM (47+Ys)

12 Also tucked in the back of the bill is a provision that allows each illegal over the age of 16 to have a go at your wife upon entry to the country.  It's called the double illegal entry rule.  It's like when two negatives make a positive, but in this case the two illegal entries make one legal entry.

Hey, don't get all hysterical you racists, they're required to shower first!  Jeebus it ain't like they're allowing teabagging.

Oh, wait.  Yup here it is.  Teabagging is ok.  My mistake.

Hmmmmm....Dirty Sanchezing is ok, too, but only if your name actually is Sanchez.  Makes sense, I guess.

13 Even worse than the amnesty, the DA is a Direct Attack on U.S. citizenship itself: foreign citizens who are here illegally will be eligible for benefits that were taken from U.S. citizens.

In addition to calling, if you want to actually do something about this that would be extremely effective, go to a campaign appearance by Clinton, Edwards, Richardson, or Obama and ask them this question.

Then, upload their response and publicize it. The goal is to publicly discredit them and make them look as bad as possible. Do that enough times and they'll get the message.

Well no they are not, did you expect anything different? And when the Dhimmi's get a working majority in the Senate and maybe even the house in NOV 08 expect it to go through thanks to the fools currently running the Republican party.

16 Back in the early 80's when I was a grad student at UCSD the resident tuition was somewhere around $5K/yr, non-resident/foreign somewhere around $15K/yr.

So these geniuses propose rewarding illegal behavior with preferential treatment over those foreign students and out of state students who come in through the front door right?

Had I not been a CA resident at the time, I would have just declared myself an illegal alien to get the preferred rates.

17 They're just not going to stop with the amnesty, are they?

Well golly gee. I guess you guys finally catching on then?

The immigration bill passed by unchecked Dems with a filibuster proof majority and signed by the HillBilly will make the one from this year look like a harsh smack-down on illegals.

And that's just going to be the beginning. All the Dem candidates want to sunset the tax cuts. Every single one has a nationalized health care plan - one seventh of our economy is to be nationalized. Surrender in Iraq.

And just wait until you see the loons HillBilly appoints to the SCOTUS - that alone will do more damage than a million Lindsey Grahams. By the end of HillBilly's term the SCOTUS will probably find the right to health care and open borders in the constitution.

But you hotshots sure showed those bad old Republicans didn't ya? Congrats Dumbasses.

19 So that's what NPR was agitating for last night. I figured there was a reason for the sappy, up-close-and-personal self-interview they ran on a 15-year-old undocumented high-school student—the kind of story they never do on, say, a Christian valedictorian who's not allowed to say "Jesus" in his commencement speech.

Kaus is very good on immigration, and as a military spouse, he's pretty good on the war too.  He had an interesting column a while back that drew convincing parallels between Bush's Iraq policy and his amnesty policy, in that both are hugely risky, and driven by an uptopian belief that all people are lovely and want the same things in life, blah blah blah.

It is easy to believe that when you have a large detachment of the US Secret Service to protect you all the time, and will have for the rest of your life.
