Nicely done - the Israeli raid on Syrian nuke stuff

The Times Online is claiming the Israelis hit a site with some tasty DPRK nuclear materials. Its no secret Assad Lite and the DPRK have been tossing each other salad for a while now. With the DPRK supposedly shutting down, and being largely very weaselly shits, its not surprising that they might be looking to "double dip" here -- sell off a good chunk of stuff then claim it "got lost" or was "destroyed" before the inspectors had a chance to see that happen. After all, the DPRK and Syria are major sources of counterfeit US currency in the world today, so its not like black bag deals screwing over the US and UN are beyond them ethically. Syria looks like the big loser here (what's new?) cuz you can be sure the DPRK got paid up front for the goodies. Cash strapped as they are, they ain't gonna be taking no checks from the dentist.

That the Syrians are closed lipped and not flooding the zone with "oh poor innocent us" footage and pics of stuffed animals from the site speaks volumes about what got hit. They know there are plenty of experts out there that can tell what is and what isn't from a pile of apparent rubble and scrap iron.

Purple, looks like you and I are the only ones up this morning...

Anyway, don't forget that the Bekaa Valley is where Mossad has been screaming that a lot of chemical weapons from a recently-deposed dictator have been stashed. It's probably not too much of a stretch to look at whether or not they might have made one big pile of stuff out in Bekaa...

2 The silence on this is pretty revealing that whatever was taken out was sensitive in nature.  Where's the guy with the green helmet???

3 Good for Israel.  This ought to be a wake-up call to Washington that Israel is not going to wait around forever for us to deal with Iran.

Shouldn't you people be hung over, not posting?

But yeah, the fact that syria hasn't been screaming bloody murder over this is a pretty good tip that whatever the israelis hit, the syrians don't want anyone looking too hard at it.

5 If I was Syria, or Iran, I'd have a mobile "disaster" unit that could simultaneously clean up any attack sites while planting tricycles (pre-dusted for authenticity) etc.

6 Good for Israel. This ought to be a wake-up call to Washington that Israel is not going to wait around forever for us to deal with Iran. Who is to say we weren't involved? It happened within miles of Iraq and according to the news, Syria's air defenses when dark. its not improbable that we had a hand in some of this.

7 No Israeli aircraft losses?  The decision to buy that Russian anti-aircraft shit must be a bitter to swallow right now in Damascus and Teheran.  Especially on an empty stomach.

And Moscow...the Syrians haven't exactly been a prime reference for anyone looking to buy Russian stuff.  This week I expect some "Russian advisers" to start appearing in strength in Damascus.

He's an opthamologist not a dentist.

You need more layers of nuanced fact checkers and editors.

I think they blew up a lot of Saddam's WMD in that raid, too.  But, I'm not sure; I'll wait for Frank Rich to set it all straight before I make up my mind.

I picture all their radar screens switching to midget porn just at the right moment.

12 So Assad's an opthamologist? Not a very good one. He never saw this attack coming. Heh.

arrival three days earlier of a ship carrying North Korean material labelled as cement

Oh yeah, that's believable. I mean cement is made of sand and lime(stone) right? There's that huge shortage of sand in the middle east these days, gotta import cement from the opposite side of the globe if you're a Syrian construction company.

Yeesh!

Proof positive that Ron Paul is right when he says Israel can take care of itself?

Sucks don't it, that they chose the Bekaa as a place to conceal, er, contraband. They make some good wine there. You get a bad feeling when the sniper turns out to be in the dome of the Golden Mosque, or the artillery spotters in the spires of Chartres Cathedral. I hate the smell of napalm in the Shiraz.

PA, it looks likely you are correct about the Israelis taking out NK nuke materials. Meryl Yourish has been following the attack closely

http://www.yourish.com/

She was first of the opinion it was a test of the new anti-aircraft missiles purchased by both Syria and Iran, but now supports the anti-nuke strike theory. I don't see why both are not likely. Anyway, Asshat just had his nose rubbed in shit. I would love to se Israel take Syria out. My only regret would be the Israeli soldiers who would pay the price.

17 THOSE WERE NOT NUCLEAR MATERIALS, DAMMIT!

They were glow stick and luminescent party favors for the childrean at the innocent Syrian wedding party the covetous JOOOOOOOS massacred!

Who is to say we weren't involved? It happened within miles of Iraq and according to the news, Syria's air defenses when dark. its not improbable that we had a hand in some of this.

We probably helped them with intelligence and maybe we did do something to the air defenses, but I doubt we provided any planes of our own.  Of course, since we sold them the planes and bombs they used...

I'm actually speaking of bombing the nuke facilities in Iran.  That is what I'm saying Israel is not going to wait forever for us to deal with.  This raid on Syria only reinforces that.

20 "No weapons of mass destruction were ever found."

Yeah, right.

All you anti-war leftards can kiss my pale Scandi ass right now.

We were right to go into Iraq, we were right to stay there, we were right to give our allies some support & spine so they could do things like this. I hope Dubya has Iran carpet-bombed in time for the spring primaries.
