Is the Beauchamp "electronic embargo" bullshit?

Take a look and check the date of the last login.

Either the claims he's being embargoed are bullshit or someone else is logging into and updating his MySpace page.

1 Ace, I noticed this the other day.  He also last logged in on September 6th and several times before that.

3 Is the Beauchamp "electronic embargo" bullshit?

Everything else about this guy is bullshit, why wouldn't this be.

Confederate Yankee says he asked Beauchamp for an interview and Beauchamp turned him down so he must have some sort of access:

I sent in a request for an interview with Private Beauchamp several weeks ago.
When he turned it down this past week, it verified that he had returned from COP Ellis to FOB Falcon. His log-in to his MySpace page on September 6 also corroborates his return.

I wonder what Beauchamp and Foer have been emailing each other about?

4 Damn, this is the right link to CY's post (I hope).

5 I'm confused. Weeks ago it was established he was free to talk to whoever he wanted.

6 Having seen my friends log on, when I knew they were either sleeping, or driving, I was going to say it could be a hacker using his page to spam.

BUT, he changed his pic, and spammers won't do that.

Also, for a payed writer its hard to read his page lol.

He commented to one of his friends last week. Asked about the gender of his friends kid.

Lest we forget -

Beauchamp was punished with a reduction in rank to E1 for an OpSec violation on his blog which he commited before deploying from Germany.

Beauchamp was not punished for anything in relation to what was published in 'The New Republic'  Which is one of those inconvenient truths we hear so much about.

I had a babysitter once who snuck a boy in while we were gone and he logged onto his myspace page from my computer. Ooooops. Shouldn't have left your password on my computer.

I had so much fun rearranging his page. I took out his photos, especially the ones that said, look at these hot chicks or lame stuff like that and I put  total gnarly fat beastie chicks in instead.

He had Kenny Loggins as his song. Ah, good times.

Anyhow, other people can log on for you that's always possible...................I'm not defending him in any way. I just wanted an excuse to tell my myspace story.

16 The shit hit the fan late July. It's been over a month now. He wasn't going to be on restrictions forever.

Posted by: dave at September 13, 2007 09:21 AM (T7Z1d)

17 I really don't understand all the fuss about Beauchamp.   He fabricated a story and published in in the New Republic.   So friggin' what?

Are you telling me there are people out there who really believe what is in the New Republic is true and accurate anyway?

I don't think so....

Posted by: Kasper Hauser at September 13, 2007 09:23 AM (KeOQp)

18 I really don't understand all the fuss about Beauchamp.

There is no "fuss" about Beauchamp - he is what he is, a lying sack of shit.  TNR and their handling of him is "the story" now.  The cover up is always worse than the crime.

Posted by: Purple Avenger at September 13, 2007 09:37 AM (VNLlR)

19 @14

So what's your point, that it's not a crime to write fiction and present it as truth?  I think that was established with James Frey and "A Million Little Pieces".  That doesn't mean he isn't deserving of ridicule and exposure or that his writing should be taken seriously.

Posted by: chad at September 13, 2007 09:55 AM (WNcvq)

20 Last updated 9/13/07 and he's online right now!  I should send him a message or something about how life's treating him cleaning out those latrines everyday.

21

no, chad.

My point is that The Left (as such) is saying that Beauchamp was punished with a reduction of grade to E1 and confiscation of his cell phone for what he wrote in the TNR.

He wasn't.

Which is Reality's way of confounding the Reality-based.

22 He wasn't.

How I read the interview with the investigator, was that he was demoted. However, I vaguely remember him being demoted when he failed to return to Iraq back in April of this year. And then there was the demotion, as you said, before he was deployed.

As to his communications restrictions -- his myspace was not updated from 7/26 to 8/31.  So, yeah, it is possible he was restricted.

Posted by: dave at September 13, 2007 10:42 AM (T7Z1d)

Beauchamp lost his cell and laptop during the course of the operational security investigation that I triggered, both teh phnoe and the computer were returned at the conclusion of the investigation, which was over a week ago.

During the course of the investigation, The New Republic had access to Beauchamp, and Beauchamp had access to The New Republic, as long as they went through normal channels, provided that he was on base and of course, he wanted to take the interview.

Beauchamp also had access to his wife, TNR staffer Ellie Reeve, through the military-provided morale telephone lines established for that purpose.

Now, he was out of touch for a time while at COP Ellis, but he hasn't been there since his last published TNR communication in July, and we know he returned to Falcon more than a week ago.

He is quiet because he wants to be, much to the dismay of Franklin Foer.
