| Norman Hsu Captured in ColoradoAllah has what few details we know and says that updates will be forthcoming: Authorities said Hsu was taken into custody at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction at 7 p.m. local time. He had been on the lam for almost two days after failing to appear in a Redwood City courtroom Wednesday to surrender his passport. We should keep in mind that--for the moment--Hsu is guilty of nothing more than his prior conviction. A great deal of speculation has circulated about his contributions to Democrats and the likelihood that he has been running some kind of bundled contribution scheme. For the moment, there is little information on that. Hopefully we'll start to get some answers now that the man is in custody. Comments1
I do so hope he starts telling the troof, the whole troof and nothing but the troof so at least one Clintonian scandal might actually derail a Clinton or a Democrat.
Until then, I'll stay away from the Republican version of troofers (see e.g., Vince Foster) and we shall see. But I am crossing my fingers that there is some scandal that will actually be big enough that the MSM has to cover it. Posted by: Nom de Blog at September 07, 2007 01:05 AM (EkG0f) 2
If the Clintons haven't been scandalized for their many, many unscrupulous acts already on the books, they will never be.
Posted by: Dr. Chopper at September 07, 2007 01:10 AM (aM17J) 3
Well, PA Governor Ed Rendell isn't giving Hsu's money back, and considers Hsu a "friend"....
Don't know what this means. Rendell is an excellent Dem politician and about as clean as a Philly Dem can be. He might be trying to run interference for Hillary, in exchange for a possible cabinet position (I've even heard whispers of VP) in a Hillary administration. While the MSM diligently buries the story as best they can. Sorry, feeling a bit conspiratorial this morning. Posted by: Dr. Remulak at September 07, 2007 01:16 AM (z0OBF) 4
Yeah, you're fooling yourself if you think such a scandal would ever touch a Democrat in the drive-by media.
Posted by: z ryan at September 07, 2007 01:17 AM (PDeVA) 5
If I were him, I'd be more afraid of being whacked by Hillary's people than the law- dead men tell no tales.
Posted by: Hollowpoint at September 07, 2007 01:40 AM (v8vVW) 6
He probably learned from Vince Foster, even if he knows where the bodies are buried, he probably doesn't want to join them.

Settle down, class. It's time for Modern Math. No, Billy, that can wait until after math is finished.
Students, let' look in our text books for our first problem: It took 2 days for Mr. Hsu to get from San Francisco to Grand Junction - a distance of 1017 miles. Now, who can tell me how long it would take little Norman to go a further distance of 1930 miles to Fort Marcy Park in Virginia? Anyone? Posted by: JayC at September 07, 2007 02:11 AM (+1O2Q) 8
"California Attorney General spokesman Gareth Lacy said Hsu's lawyers
told prosecutors Hsu arrived by charter jet at the Oakland airport
about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday local time and then wasn't heard from again."
Who paid for the chartered jet? Follow the money. Posted by: Aaron at September 07, 2007 03:49 AM (ig9E2) 9
That's a weird way to try to escape.....til you realize that you're not ID'd for Amtrak. And you are for renting a car, flying, etc. Drive your own car, and they've got your license plate number.
So actually, not necessarily a bad idea. There's no security screening at Amtrak, and you can pick up a ticket in cash at the ticket window. Great way to bolt. I don't get the sickness episode, but perhaps he ate too many train nachos. I've been on the Northeast corridor run several times, and some of that food will make you seriously ill if you eat a lot of it. Perhaps he asked for popcorn and inhaled directly from the bag. Posted by: meep at September 07, 2007 04:52 AM (6qqHG) 10
"Sick" eh? Better check him for radioactive isotopes. The Clintons may be sending out a message...

Oh, Jesus, please, no. Posted by: Xoxotl at September 07, 2007 07:04 AM (tH4zz) 13
That being said, Rendell is currently deeply loathed by a good portion of Pennsylvania. Him and his Democratic cronies rammed a bill through the set up toll booths on the I-80 corridor through PA. The purpose of this bill? Why, to pay for "improvements" to the mass transit system in Philadelphia, of course!
It goes without saying that I-80 doesn't run anywhere near Philadelphia. And it's safely far enough from Pittsburgh as well. Posted by: Xoxotl at September 07, 2007 07:13 AM (tH4zz) 14

>>And jumping bail. Or do we still have to say he allegedly jumped bail? I always get a laugh out of Los Angeles police chase videos. You see an aerial shot of a speeding car, and police vehicles in hot pursuit. And you hear the radioed voice: --Police is chasing the suspect (fair enough) --The suspect turns right on Kings Blvd (Uh Oh) --He rams into an oncoming car (Damn!) --The suspect backs up and speeds away (Suspect? Maybe they were serving food with Chinese additives in the dining car? That would be justice. ICE was involved in the arrest. Q: Is he is here legally, AND why was he headed for "sanctuary" Denver? They better put this guy in protective lockup, before he "decides" to take a "walk in the park" to "clear his head" with a .38 like 'ol Vince Foster. Posted by: Joe Mama at September 07, 2007 09:50 AM (0rl7n) 21
Well, damn. I thought he was working for the PRC, but they would have just gotten him out of the country, wouldn't they? I guess he's just a garden variety con man (albeit a very successful one) after all.

Prediction:
Hsu will sue AmTrack for food poisoning and be awarded millions. He'll hire an "OJ Dream Team" and clear his conviction, claiming that he was never advised of the charges in his native tongue and therefore misunderstood all the legal proceedings. His reputation restored, Hsu will once again be welcomed into the fund raising ranks of the Democratic party. Posted by: GarandFan at September 07, 2007 10:29 AM (+tCxF) 24
>>Hsu will sue AmTrack for food poisoning and be awarded millions. Not if he was licking the Amtrak windows. Amtrak has a 'no window licking' policy. Posted by: Tushar D at September 07, 2007 10:35 AM (IlgNp) 25

What's the over/under on him getting bail again?
Posted by: Joe Mama at September 07, 2007 10:42 AM (0rl7n) 27
Did he post his 2 million dollar bond in cash, or did he use a bail bond company? Of course if he used a bondsman, wouldn't he still have had to front 2 hundred grand cash? Where does Mr. Hsu get his seemingly endless supply of money? Posted by: funky chicken at September 07, 2007 10:43 AM (I+jPP) 28
Joe Mama. Well, the state of CA just collected a cool 2 mil from the guy or his bond agent, so I'd guess they would let him out, say on 4 mil next time. They have lots of illegal aliens to take care of after all. Posted by: funky chicken at September 07, 2007 10:44 AM (I+jPP) 29
I figured he was feeding the fish in a brand new pair of Reddi-Mix Reeboks by now. Taking a train, getting sick and taken to a hospital prior to arrival at ticketted destination? Sounds like a way of getting out of California on the quiet, and getting into the hands of another jurisdiction whose LE officials are for some reason felt to be safer to be around, doesn't it? And then the FBI steps in and clears the way for him to be returned to Cal? Oops. Where the hell is the US AG? Git him to Gitmo! Posted by: sherlock at September 07, 2007 10:57 AM (ojW85) 30
Weirdest thing isn't the ICE involvement, but the State Department Diplomatic Security Service. Why were they involved? They provide Secret Service protection for foreign diplomats.
Very odd... Posted by: l4n3 at September 07, 2007 11:21 AM (lO7YR) 31
l4n3 Hmmm. Again, if he was working for the PRC, why wouldn't they have just flown him out of the country in a diplomat's jet? The bottomless pit of money which Mr. Hsu is ready to toss away like old underwear seems to indicate some sort of governmental backer...2 million bucks is a lot of cash to just leave behind like that. The whole thing is very, very odd. Too bad we don't have any big time MSM folks interested in what has to be a blockbuster of a story, if it ever got fully researched and told. He's as good as dead. Remember Vince Foster? If I had Hillary! chasing after me, I'd run too. Conviently getting sick? That's the nerve agent beginning to take effect. He'll be a quivering mass of brain dead flesh within days.
Might as well start some fun conspiracy theories!! Posted by: rudytbone at September 07, 2007 11:58 AM (rItTJ) 34
I would like to express my condolences for the upcoming demise of Mr. Hsu.
I would also like to express my admiration for Mrs. Clinton and her highly skilled and incredibly talented staff. I must say, I am very impressed by the complete he lack of evidence linking her or anyone on her team to this "mysterious sickness." her calm professionalism during this very difficult time for her. I hope Mr. Hsu doesn't become another Sandy Berger...guilty as sin, lots of info on political corruption, but strangely uninteresting to the Bush justice department. Posted by: funky chicken at September 07, 2007 12:32 PM (I+jPP) 36

Again, if he was working for the PRC, why wouldn't they have just flown him out of the country in a diplomat's jet? Maybe they tried to, but since he was not sure whether he would land in Beijing, or in the ocean halfway there, he decided to find a way to get into US Federal custody, interstate flight normally being a sure-fire ticket. I say again, git this boy to Gitmo while he's still above room temperature! Posted by: sherlock at September 07, 2007 12:48 PM (ojW85) 38
For once in my life, I find myself pitying a Democrat. This guy Hsu, on the lam from the Chicoms, the DNC, the Clintonistas, and God knows who else ... talk about being in 'way, 'way over your head!
Posted by: Brown Line at September 07, 2007 12:57 PM (VrNoa) 39
I just hope Bush has one non-Clinton official in the Justice Dept that he can count on... and he tells him to get Hsu in a secure location on a US military base and don't give him up to anybody. This may be a win-win for the good guys. If Hsu spills the beans, we know that at a minimum there will be major shenanigans come to light, if not treason. If anything nasty happens to him that prevents him spilling the beans, any reasonable person is going to assume that either the Dems arranged it, or the Chinese did to prevent him exposing their funding of prominent Dems.
