8 Reading the article you find that the 10,000 pages are in regards to 22 incidents
of court martial proceedings. We've had 22 serious incidents in 5 years!!!! We've had hundreds of thousands of soldiers rotating in and out of Iraq for over 5 years, I would say that  small number of incidents reflects the pride and professionalism that our service men and woman take in executing their duties.

Not long ago, somewhere on the web, I read an analysis of the ACLU method. Basically, they have a bunch of lawyer "members" who prowl for the types of cases they (ACLU) might make. The central organization picks what they feel are the best of the lot to actually file and then assign the case to lawyers in the geograhical area to actually handle. The ACLU has "hired" them and gets billed full rate (forget whether a discount goes to the org. or not) and pays them from its funds collected as contributions, grants from trusts and foundations, etc. In other words, it's very much a business--just in camoflage.

What I read was recent--describing the mechanics with relation to the case where ACLU was doing the Darrow against a PA school board's Bryan.What can't be ignored is that the ACLU gets in there, on some occasions, arguing what would qualify as the "conservative" side of an issue. They lost one (in PA) where they defended the Schwatzentruber Amish against having to comply with every particular of the motor vehicle code (electric lamps). It might not seem the most perfect fit--but Reagan never lapsed membership in either the ACLU or the NAACP.

The ACLU defends NAMBLA - and that is a bridge too far.  They might sometimes defend some liberties which coincide with conservative positions, but the NAMBLA-thing is too much.  NAMBLA's stated goal is to make the sexual abuse of children both accepted and legal.  I can understand that an individual accused abuser deserves a good defence, since anyone can be falsely accused or railroaded (Duke ?), but NAMBLA lobbies to change the law to make abuse legal.
