Kos Kidz are the stoopid

Well our friends at the premiere lefty blog Daily Kos have once again decided to show their Stalinist tendency by erasing an entry that shows them to be the fools they are. This diary purported to have information on an upcoming US attack on Iran from an active duty US Navy officer.

Sorry. I can’t seem to find that story.

The story attracted the attention of a number of dextrosphere bloggers because the details weren’t even up to the Franklin Foer ‘smell test’.

Here’s one passage from the now hidden diary establishing the bona fides of the diarists active duty source:

She started in the Marines and after 8 years her term was up. She had served on a smaller Marine carrier, and found out through a friend knew there was an opening for a junior grade LSO in a training position on a supercarrier. She used the reference and the information and applied for a transfer to the United States Navy. Since she had experience landing F-18Cs and Cobra Gunships, and an unblemished combat record, she was ratcheted into the job, successfully changing from the Marines to the Navy. Her role is still aligned with the Marines since she generally is assigned to liason with the Marine units deploying off her carrier group.

Well that struck Lex of Neptunus Lex (an active duty US Navy Captain and F/A 18 pilot) as not quite kosher:

A smaller “Marine” carrier would be a Navy LHA or LHD, embarking a Marine Air Combat Element, or ACE. They carry attack helicopters, transport helicopters and a small number of Harrier jump jets. They don’t (can’t) land F-18s.

It’s not impossible for an aviator to have an unblemished combat record flying Marine helicopters from amphibs and then have flown the FA-18 - a test pilot might do so - but it’s very, very rare. You bloom where you’re planted, and these days, with the Navy getting smaller and the Marine Corps under burden, transferring from the Corps to carrier aviation is well nigh unheard of.

As for hearing from a friend that a “junior grade” LSO position was available, that’s hooey. That’s not how it’s done, we don’t advertise for LSO’s, we grow them up from within the squadrons embarked aboard the carriers. Nor, for that matter, do we call them “supercarriers” any more, since they’re all supercarriers. The last ship not in the supercarrier weight class was the USS Midway, which weighed in at a bit less than 60,000 tons but was decommissioned 15 years ago.

And it’s downhill from there. Check out Lex’s place for the full take down.

This little incident is a wonderful encapsulation of all we’ve come to expect from today's progressives, paranoia, incompetence and an attempt to cover up the truth. And these are the people all the Democratic candidates for President are feverishly working to woo.

UPDATE: Kos-Why am I surrounded by idiots?*

Seriously, just because something online confirms your own viewpoint or prejudices or whatnot, it does not mean it's true.

Skepticism is a virtue.

Now the right-wingers are laughing at the gullibility of those who recommend Maccabee's diaries.

And they are quite justified in doing so.

Thanks to Chef Mojo for pointing that out.

1 Pathetic. I caught this on Lex, via mudvillegazette today. I'm a civilian, and this tale didn't even pass MY nasal appraisal.

It may have been disappeared, but thousands of gullible lefties already saw it and are probably passing it along as gospel as we speak.

The same here. We don't advertise for morons, we grow them up from within the  aoshq.

In a way this reminds me of the new Marine Corps commerical -- the Marines don't take applications, only commitments.

The morons here are committed.

9 Maybe if I had been a Marine I could spell the word "commercial".

Posted by: cranky at September 02, 2007 10:04 PM (Xj2Ev)

10 There's a difference between committed and committed.  For a bacon and eggs breakfast, the chicken is committed to producing the eggs, but the pig was REALLY committed when the bacon is called for.

Posted by: Purple Avenger at September 02, 2007 10:04 PM (NiDeC)

11 Granted, I was just a lowly commo grunt in the Army, but it did seem a little odd to me that an LSO would be landing airplanes and helicopters.  Granted, they are both aviation, but I doubt a junior grade officer would have the technical skills to land both. Helicopters and planes may  both be aviation, but there is a world of difference between the two.  A senior level NCO I could see, but not some lowly  O-3.

You, Frank G, need to learn what shame feels like more than the Daily Kos author who wrote that diary.

The posting was yanked.  Disappeared.  Rendered a non-post.  Became an ex-post.  Its pining for the fjords.

Were it true, that would likely not have happened.  That scads of mil-clueless commenter's apparently believed it absolutely warrants shame.  Not because it was believed per-se as a single incident, rather that the left is so generally ignorant of military matters that it could be believed when there was so much plainly wrong with it.

Where are your experts who should be calling bullshit on such stuff?  Surely some exist (I see one diary that did question it), but only one?  There's gotta be more liberals out there with some intellectual integrity about military matters.

28 This is rich. Guess who are they blaming for the Macacabee's diary:

Bush and the Neocons, ofcourse:

I think this is planted information, part of the admin roll out of their campaign to sell a war with Iran. By putting out something which may be partially or wholly true, but far enough in advance, there is plenty of time for accusations of tin-foil hat, etc.

Does anyone have / will anyone post a list of the "disappeared" Kos-howler-monkey-diarist posts over the last 6 to 12 months (Title/date/diarist)?

It strikes me that Kos is starting to get tired of getting a regular and public spanking, particularly when it’s this close to the next major election.

It would be nice to be able to publicly and repeatedly remind the various candidates and elected representatives of this particular statistic. It’s a basic question of credibility.

Besides, it's likely to be tough to stage a putch when:

  A. You can't disappear posts / people fast enought to keep the world from laughing at you, your opinions and people

  B. Everyone can see that you’re still just a bit too sore to sit down.

38 Oh - I might have to ink this at hotair too....this is priceless.

this is Macabee's diary on Right Wing Blogs ---

Armchair Military Experts/Generals. A small group of RWBloggers love to read history and confuse the current war with wars that have no real analogy. For example, Clinton was just like Neville Chamberlain. Iraq was just like World War II. Insurgents are like Communists, and so on. These RWBloggers will make references to famous land battles like Arsuf and the Somme, and the Third Crusade. It all sounds great. But little holds up under scrutiny. Like an old college professor once said, If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. I imagine pipe smoking, bow tie wearing keyboardists, totally satisfied with their academic prowess. The astonishing thing about RWB is how little they actually know about the subjects that they write about. Few of them know the difference between the Sunnis and Shias. Most have never heard of Sunni or Shias, but this does not stop them from lecturing you on this.

Posted by: topsecretk9 at September 03, 2007 01:22 AM (0Dt9v)

39 The difference between Sunni and Shia:

Sunni believe that their were only four rightly guided Imam's
Shia believe in twelve (hence, why the Sunni refer to them as "twelvers")

Sunni do not believe in worshiping at shrines, making images of any sort of people, animals, etc because they carry the dictum of "no graven images" to the far extent.  They don't believe in putting up headstones or other memorials for the same reason.  The dead are dead.  The only place the Sunni believe they should worship at is the Kabah.  This is an ancient religious site that was once famous for it's pagan rituals many of which were incorporated into Islamic tradition by Mohammed after he conquered the Quaraysh.  The Quaraysh were Mohammed's familial tribe that ran the site for centuries, taking their wealth from the worshipers in a similar manner that the Saudi's take money from the people who come for hajj.  That being insisting on "pure" robes that they could only buy from a sanctified member of the tribe, special food, ointments and other such religious "necessities".

Mohammed's grandfather ran the Kabah for many years.  Mohammed was "fostered" away from the family when his grandfather died and his uncle took control.  Largely under the guise of "not enough money to support him", but may also be because Mohammed was illegitimate.  His father being no where around in any story (most having him die before Mohammed was born).  His uncle set him up as a caravan driver where he learned about the many religions, met his first wife Khadijah and made some wealth for his wife.  Depending on which "historians" you read, he either did this by getting his wife's father drunk or by some other "fait accompli" method when the fellow had the good sense to object to his daughter marrying a poor caravan driver.

Shia go to grave sites, to tombs of the past Imam's, great leaders, holy sites, paint pictures of holy men and clerics, etc, etc, etc.  The most famous of these holy sites and images is of "Hussein", the grandson of Mohammed who was killed outside of Karbala, along with his infant son and many others.  His family was taken into slavery and, according to Shia lore, humiliated and enslaved.  Every year, the biggest holy day for the Shia is the re-enactment of Hussein's "murder".  The Shia beat themselves with chains and other devices to show penance for allowing Hussein to be killed.  They cut their heads with large knives and machetes to mimic Hussein's head being cut off (which was then presented to his rival the "usurper" according to the Shia).

The Sunni also despise the Shia for this, calling them blasphemers and "worshipers of graven images".

Shi'ite literally translates into "party of Ali" as they believe that Mohammed's cousin Ali was the rightful heir and first rightly guided Caliph.

While both believe, to some extent, in the coming of the Mahdi (or savior of the Muslims), the Shia believe he will come in the person of the 12th "hidden" Imam who disappeared sometime during the 8th century (I believe, going from memory) .  The Sunni don't believe this "Imam" was official or is the person of the Mahdi, but will be a totally different, unknown person.

I'm going from memory here, but I'm sure someone could google it.

Anyway, what you really need to know about the differences between these two sects is that they have been trying to kill each other and make Islam in their own image for 1400 years.  they've each had turns ruling through multiple dynasties and empires.  They've equally created a number of fanatical religious offshoots over the centuries including a rather interesting one called the "hassashin" (possibly the parent of "assassin" and definitely the parent of Hashish).  Mimicing modern jihadist approach, the hassashin would take young boys from their parents, feed them hashish via food and drink until they were in a stupor and then carry them into a beautiful garden that represented "paradise".  They were given anything they wanted and educated in the Islamic beliefs of their masters.  Then they were sent out to assassinate other religious leaders and notables.  If they were successful, they were told they would live in paradise forever and be able to bring their families with them.  If they were not successful, they would die and go to hell.

That should sound familiar, too.  Including the "feeding of hashish".  Most of the "recruiters" tell their zealot fighters and suiciders that they can do anything they want, including take drugs, rape women, have sex with men/boys, etc because their sacrifice in the name of Allah will make all of these things forgiven.  Pretty neat trick, huh?

Now, would anyone like a lesson in how the Muslim Brotherhood, the fanatical branch of Sunni Islam, has existed for several centuries and been alternately used and discarded by various rulers throughout Islamic history?  I could tell you how the Saud's conquered the tribes of Arabia on at least two different occasions using this Muslim Brotherhood, only to go to war with them when they were no longer useful or threatened their rule?

Sound familiar?  One was at the turn of the 19th century and the other was at the turn of the 20th century.

I could go on, but, you know, I don't know jack about the difference between Sunni and Shia, Middle East history, or anything else cause I'm a right wing blogger that believes we should nuke the world accept the red states where mostly rightwingers live.   (that's sarcasm for any Kos idiots that stop by).

40 I was part of the crew trashing the original post and had fun with it.

The Kos himself came out and blew it off.

After that or somewhere in between it grew and got viral on it's own in the interwebs (whatever that term means).

But even the aftermath is funny, they now have a thread over there discussing the original thread and the Kos dissing of it.

A few more like this and we will have the Kos kid imitation of the of the Six Million Dollar Man.

I can't hold it, it's breaking up!

41 The only place the Sunni believe they should worship at is the Kabah

Let me clarify: the only "shrine" the Sunni believe they should worship at is the Kabah.  They will worship at mosques, but those are not "shrines" and they tend to keep them pretty minimalist.  This aversion to "graven images" is why mosques are sometimes decorated with geometrical or floral engravings

Not all Sunni are averse to seeing pictures of people such as photographs and, of course, music videos of chics in scanty clothing are pretty popular even in Saudi Arabia.  This is all about "outward" appearances that keep the muttawa at bay.  It's one of those "hypocrisies" that bin Laden and company are adverse to.
However, the "fundamentalists" aren't too keen on even Polaroids.  I remember reading TE Lawrence talking about the tribes who were torn between having their pictures taken for posterity and the belief that these images violated Mohammed's teachings.  He said you could never be sure what the response was going to be so its better to ask before taking.

Anyway, just wanted to clarify what I wrote.  Wouldn't want someone to jump on it and say I didn't know what I was talking about.

53 You know, if Liberals had the capacity to learn, you'd think they might have (after all the fake soldier stories) learned that if you want to sell a propaganda story, the first two things you have to do are to make it believable and to not add details you haven't checked, especially peripheral details.

When someone loads on detail after irrelevant detail, by guessing at it or making things up, they make it all to easy to debunk.

On the other hand, perhaps I should be thankful for the idiocy of my adversaries.

401 Good evening. The strongest possible piece of advice I would give any young woman is: Don't screw around, and don't smoke. Help me! Can not find sites on the: Bbandt online banking. I found only this - nursing jobs in key west florida. If you have gotten behind in the amounts that you owe to your creditors, then perhaps you need to think about doing something to change this situation. Just when you. Have been agonizing over financial issues such as bills, credit reports and taxes, the irs offers a bit of good news. THX , Mea from Bahrain.

412 I will have a hard time buying ugg classic cardy at normal brick and mortar store for now on knowing that I can browse the largest selection I have ever seen and purchase confidently. Thanks for being a great company.Although your ugg boots cardy website is entered by users, the site has a lot of accurate and useful information on it.your net shop is kept to a minimum and favours websites connected to the ugg cardy boots Web Design Library in appearance and subject.
The popular blue ugg is renowned for its comfort. But some doctors worry that the popular black ugg could cause serious foot pain in the long run.So some podiatrists across the country are telling ugg classic cardy lovers to watch their steps. In fact, there is nothing wrong!
The crochet boots online retailer also knows bargain-hungry shoppers are scouring the Web for discounts, and its UGG Classic Crochet rivals are more than happy to provide them. So it is putting coupon codes on ugg classic crochet that customers can use to save money on its site.
