Report Finds CIA Deficient In Anti-Terrorist Efforts... Particularly During Clinton Administration

I didn't link this earlier because I didn't know the report contained some tasty, juicy red meat. CIA was deficient in hunting Al Qaeda? Really? Who knew?

But this is interesting. Savor it, because this is the last time you'll ever read it:

The CIAs analysis of al-Qaida before Sept. 2001 was lacking. No comprehensive report focusing on bin Laden was written after 1993, and no comprehensive report laying out the threats of 2001 was assembled. A number of important issues were covered insufficiently or not at all, the report found.

But wait -- I was assured that Richard Clarke presented a full powerpoint presentation to the Bush national security people that painstakingly detailed the al-Qaeda threat and presented a full plan for taking them out in Afghanistan.

The media told me so. It must be true.

Wow. If only we could have had this report AT ANY OTHER TIME BEFORE NOW.

Good grief.

Oh, and Clinton LIED to us???? How could that be possible?? I'm shocked.

2 No wonder Clinton wet his pants when Chris Wallace asked him the softball question and the nutroots freaked out at the truth might get out.

Now, what was it Sandy Berger was after, hmmm?

this is in reference to the ABC drama they censored.

Well, now we know what Sandy Berger was after, don't we?  After the cruise missiles whiffed, someone wrote in the margins of their briefing notes - "You know, we really should work up a plan for this terrorism stuff."  Someone named Sandy Berger.  Talk about inconvenient truths!

6 No kidding, I am soooo tired of Clarke's shtick "I was runnin' around trying to warn everybody" and nobody will ask him; did you tell them what day, what airline, any of the conspirators, any specific information other than the sky is falling? Of course the MSM won't ask him, that would disturb the trance.....

7 ABC news ran a story tonight on this. not one mention of Bill Clinton, the terrorist attacks of the 90's or the failures of the same cabal within the CIA that has been submarining our foreign policy for years. what they did run was a picture of GWB hanging a frickin' medal on George Tenet.

Posted by: mark c at August 21, 2007 07:05 PM (wTVTX)

8 Remember everything bad happened AFTER Bush Jr. took office...all that came before was kite flying, cute puppies and nothing but the best for our military or intelligence agencies...oh....except when Reagan or Bush Sr.  was in office...natch...

Not just ABC- apparently that is the only photo Allah at Hotair was able to dig up - ugh.

10 Yeah  I thought  "Dick"  Clarke  had  this  all  handled.   Could  Pat Leahy (Marxist/Vermont)  subpeona  him  puuulease!!!

The only thing I could find that had Clarke's hair on fire was cyber terrorism.

12 Why didn't we release this in October 2006? Or on the same day Tenet's book came out.

Posted by: Aaron at August 21, 2007 10:01 PM (Ow9Fk)

13 So how come nobody likes this being released now, at this moment?  I would think it would be pretty useful in banging Hillary's campaign with it like a drum.  Yeah, I'm talking to you, Fred!

Wouldn't matter if someone unearthed a photo of Bill Clinton sucking bin Laden's dick: everything is still Bush's fault. I heard it on Olberman.

Google it, people.

15 When I read the recent critique of G. Tenet's CIA in the late 90's, the phrase "information sharing environment" (actually lack of one) within the CIA stood out.

Which lack of ISE also existed between the CIA and the FBI, recalling failures to mutually inform and share information as to the would be "terrorists", already in the country.

Actually, Clarke's book covers this is great detail.  He claims he did know all about the bad guys and Clinton talked to him personally about it several times.  Bush didn't and Condi ignored him.  So, is Clarke right or Clinton?  Your call.

Personally, I think he's one of those nerdy little hall runners everyone ignores.

17 According to leftoids, the right wing airwaves lead to such awful things as the ignorant American Peeples having the temerity to shoot down immigration legislation.

Or, according to folks like Diane Feinstein, "the peeples" just couldn't properly understand that piece of junque (aforementioned legislation) and thus just defeated it blindly.

Rumblings of revival of a "fairness doctrine" are essentially a function of the fact that "left wing radio" simply cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas. It's not like it hasn't had the opportunity to catch fire.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, at the page linked to "The Decider" (american digest) ...haiku this...
