| FBI Puts Out Bulletin To ID Men Suspected Of "Probing" WA Ferry Security; Seattle P-I Refuses To Run PictureWhat a surprise on that last bit. If you're in Washington, look out for these good ol' boys. They may be up to no good, and not the funny kind of no good like them Duke Boys.![]() Groups of men, including one tied to a federal terrorism investigation, have videotaped Washington ferry operations, prompting federal authorities to conclude the system has been under surveillance as a possible target for an attack. U.S. Attorney John McKay, officials in the U.S. Coast Guard and other members of Seattle’s Joint Terrorism Task Force all share in that conclusion. “We may well be the target of preoperational terrorist planning,” McKay said.Go to Michelle's link to read the Seattle P-I's excuse for not running the photo. Remember, these are the people who favor a law enforcement approach to fighting terror, and are very, very upset when government officials aren't able to "connect the dots" in order to anticipate an attack. Once again I note I have contacted the FBI about them creating a simple bit of code that would rotate pictures of men wanted in terror probes or fugitives generally, so that thousands of willing blogs could post a constantly-viewed electronic post office wanted wall. They'll get back to me, apparently. Do these nitwits realize that blogs collectively reach far more people in Washington than the Seattle P-I? Comments1
No wonder Seattle Post Intelligencer (Intelligent as a post!) refused to run the photo. The first one looks like a Scott-Irish to me. The second one is definitely Nordic. They don't want to unfairly profile. OT: Sinistar posted this piece by one of persons that cheered in the Seattle Times newsroom. It is a half-hearted mea-culpa. But she does attack bloggers and kind of blame them for her behaviour: The hallowed halls of journalism that I was privileged to enter more than 20 years ago are looking more and more like the New York subway. The walls covered in bloggers' scrawl, the platform crowded with any yahoo with a camera and an open mike. Posted by: Tushar D at August 21, 2007 02:26 PM (IlgNp) 5
We keep focusing our blog attention on our Southern border regard to terrorists entering our country. I'm more concerned with their attempts to enter through our Northern border. The where the millenium bomber was stopped, the Windsor tunnel which connects to the largest concentration of our Muslim population, The Buffalo Five, our first muslim congressman from MN and this incident. All have a common thread and that is they are northern border states.

Is there a congressman who can be approached to act as an intermediary and get this idea in motion? Posted by: My Schwanz Is Alive! at August 21, 2007 02:28 PM (Dufys) 8

The Seattle P-I is not publishing the photos because neither man is
considered a suspect nor has either been charged with a crime.
Of course neither was Mohamed Atta or any of the other 9/11 hijackers on 9/10/01. Now, that's not to say that these two guys are anything but two guys on a ferry. What we do know is, law enforcement cannot 'connect the dots' before an attack if they don't have the damn dots. I am so fucking sick and tired of 'journalists' thinking they are above the simple obligations of citizenship. The 1st Amendment is a lot more limited than they act like it is. It is not a license to receive stolen material (like classified reports) and it is not a license to obstruct justice (by failing to testify at trials). It's time we remind them of these basic facts.. RE: comment #7: Yeah, Ace. You've mentioned this outstanding idea before and have proposed it - only to have it fall on shit-clogged "official" ears. Find a congresscritter to mentor and hero it. We (you bloggers and we readers) can do for this problem what was done with the piece-o-shit Shamnisty Bill. We can! No time like the present! Alternative: have a coder code the thing up, and periodically download the FBI wanted list and alert list to a specific net site for code-reference for updating. Surely there's a geek out there with too much time on his or her hands? This is not a huge task. We're not talking writing "Doom" from scratch or anything. I think you're being pretty tough on the Seattle PI. How would you like to try to base your business policies on a set of self-contradicting directions like: - Connect the dots, but don't collect the dots. - Protect our infrastructure, but don't target the likliest offender profiles. - Don't eavesdrop on the terrorists, attack Palistan! I mean, it must be damn difficult... the DNC is a harsh mistress.

Sir,
As a tenured Professor of the Department of Terrorist Science at Rutgers University, I really must protest your offensive attitudes vis a vis terrorists. It is clear you have no understanding of the determinate biological nature of terrorism. These young men are who they are - just as nature or, if you must prefer, jeebus, made them. They were born this way and no more deserve your scorn than the scorn you would show a moron. Should you continue in this vein, Mr Spades, I will see that you lose your job and the government funding that supports this blog. The consensus is in. Terrorism is genetic. It's science. Posted by: Dr Al-Qabuum, Professor of Terrorist Science at August 21, 2007 02:47 PM (fsZu0) 15
The Seattle paper didn't run the photos because it might interfere with terrorists killing a whole lot of Americans. That's what liberals want.
It's not just making Bush look bad -- although they do enjoy that. It's killing Americans they really like. That's why they've been able to overcome all their ideological differences in order to make common cause with Islamic terrorists: the terrorists kill Americans, and that's more important than anything else. Talk to any journalist: they hate the society they live in. That's why they went into journalism -- to "make a difference." In other words, to tell people what to think. But people refuse to listen, and that feeling of undeserved moral and mental superiority quickly curdles to pure, caustic hatred. They hate America, they hate Americans, and they want us all to die. That's really all there is to it. Posted by: Trimegistus at August 21, 2007 02:59 PM (au43g) Posted by: Tushar D at August 21, 2007 03:05 PM (IlgNp) 17
Yeah, Ace, just go right ahead and run that code that some anonymous guy from another country just randomly sends to you.

ace: "Once again I note I have contacted the FBI about them creating a simple bit of code that would rotate pictures of men wanted in terror probes or fugitives generally, so that thousands of willing blogs could post a constantly-viewed electronic post office wanted wall. They'll get back to me, apparently." I know you've posted about how you wanted to do this, and you said the FBI blew you off. (based off of my admittedly faulty memory) Well, I don't think they blew you off. Your idea is a great one. Seriously. And it seems absurd that they wouldn't have leapt at the idea when you presented it. But the FBI is a beuaracracy (sic), and as such, is very hard to get moving. The guy you tipped with this idea? He may think it is absolutely the greatest idea ever. But if he is just collecting tips from the public, all he can do is pass it on to his supervisor or send it to who he thinks is appropriate to send it to. And like all good ideas in a beauracracy (sic?), they tend to get bogged down in a morass of red-tape, TPS reports, proceedures, budget request, lines of authority conflict, etc, etc, etc. The only thing I can say is keep beating the drum and making noise, and maybe eventually, enough people will pick up on this, start beating their own drums, and finally get that damn eliphant to do something. Heck, you helped defeat shamnesty. This seems doable. If more and more bloggers picked up on this meme, maybe government agencies or congress or the executive might act. Don't forget ridicule. Nothing is more satisfying than ridiculing the holy hell out of the government, and watching them squirm. (well, hopefully they will squirm. On the flip side, nothing is more demoralizing than total indifference.)

It is clear you have no understanding of the determinate biological nature of terrorism. These young men are who they are - just as nature or, if you must prefer, jeebus, made them. Exactly. You have laid your finger on the very source of the problem with the 'gay/transgendered can't help it argument.' If gays/transgendered have no free will, then neither do pediphiles, terrorists, tax evaders, car jackers, et al. If there is no free will, then we must start locking up people at birth to protect society. The gays should be very careful where they go with this 'genetics are totally determinate' stance of theirs. As for terrorists, I don't mind locking them up at birth, although the 'prison planets' of the middle east haven't contained them very well.

The FBI should have told the Seattle P I that these two were Baptists from Alabama suspected of hate crimes against homosexuals, lesbians, and manatees.
Their pictures would have been up and down the left coast in minutes and the AP and Al-Reuters would have picked up on the released fury of the press on suspected gay bashers. Moments later these "Baptist Gay Bashers" would have been in custody. Ya just gotta know how to spin things for todays journalists. Posted by: Piso Majoda at August 21, 2007 05:40 PM (1dBGH) 49
