Iowa Finish: Romney 31%, Huckabee 18%, Brownback 15%

The Only Man Who Can Save America becomes the Only Man Placing Between Fourth and Sixth.

"Dr. Paul's" supporters are really spinning his fifth-place victory in that thread.

God I hate them.

So... Tommy Thompson, I believe, said he would drop out if he didn't win or place. He didn't show either. Hopefully that's one down.

Tancredo posted a somewhat strong fourth, at least strong for a niche candidate in a race in which three of the bigger candidates (Giuliani, McCain, and Fred Thompson) weren't even competing. So I guess that means his issue lives on, as if there was any doubt of that anyway.

Why Duncan Hunter cannot gain any traction, while an idiot like Brownback can come in third, is beyond me.

Over At Hot Air... Allah notes that Brownback spent a lot of his cash to place second, but failed, losing to Huckabee, who spent less, and now will have more to spend.

If that means Brownback exits soon, great. But I doubt it.

Ucchhh... Ron Paul's delusional zombots go bananas over him at Digg, insisting that he's now a first-tier candidate.

I guess that makes Huckabee, Brownback, and Tancredo even more first-tierier. Nope, the revolution belongs only to "Doctor Paul."

This Iowa straw poll can be summed up in this phrase:

"Ron Paul Makes the Cut."

He is literally in the top tier of republican candidates in the first major test of legitimacy. Make no mistake, this is a seminal moment in the Ron Paul campaign and is only a sign of amazing things to come.

Seminal moments are often wiped away with tissues and then tossed into the toilet.

One guy says something derogatory about Paul, then says "And now watch as my post gets buried by the internet army," and five minutes later, his comment is gone.

This commenter was a bit worried for the RP zombots:

Without making a judgement on who I think will be the next President, what will you guys do if it isn't Ron Paul? I'm worried you might kill yourselves or something

Thanks Michael.

What do these results tell us?

They tell us that Republicans really do want Conservative leaders with Conservative values.

They also tell us that Giuliani, Thompson, and McCain were not in the contest.

5 Ron Paul ain't shit.

The news here is that, among those who are still going to be running next year, Rudy "Lisping Duce" Giuliani placed a distant last.

Suck it, libs.

7 So much for Patrick Ruffini's controversial prediction that Ron Paul would place second.

'Seminal moments are often wiped away with tissues and then tossed into the toilet.'

Or if you don't want to go to the trouble of having to pry yourself away from your computer and waddle to to the bathroom with your trousers around your ankles to get a fat wad of toilet paper to catch your goop, you could always use a stray sock.

Uh, anyway, these Ron Paul supporters, creepy though - and often not American - though they may be shouldn't have to have to deal with the sort of heartbreak they're inevitably setting themselves up for. Hero worship invariably ends in ugliness. Poor confused saps.

9 They are claiming victory on one hand, and conspiracy on the other as I said long ago. They will claim conspiracy after Paul loses the primary also.

12 10 % is better than the 2 % that many thought he would receive. Who except his own supporters predicted that he would get that much. He got about twice as many as I thought he would get in Iowa. Who here thought thst they would be getting MORE than 10% ?

Wow, bashing Ron Paul is like 2nd nature to some of you guys here.  I don't remember seeing anyone saying that his 9% result was an enormous victory, but it also wasn't a devastating defeat either.  Remember, Dr. Paul has focused on New Hampshire, and only decided to campaign in Iowa at the last minute.  He's been in the state for a week, which is actually less time than McCain and Giuliani have spent there.  He still beat Tommy Thompson and Duncan Hunter, who also participated, and slaughtered Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain.

Obviously 9% isn't enough to win anything, but it gets us past the argument that you anti-Paulbots like to chant: no chance, no chance, no chance.  Yeah, there is a chance.  Huckabee has a chance, Paul has a chance, even Tancredo has an outside chance.  Frankly, I think each of them has a better chance than McCain, because he's a known quantity.  The unknowns are just getting known.

Feel free to disagree with a candidate if you like, but try to avoid the lies and hatred that we shouldn't expect until the general election.  Whatever else you think, Ron Paul has been a dedicated footsoldier of the conservative movement for many years longer than you. He supported Ronald Reagan before it was cool, and has stood up against the slow slide to liberalism when most of the "mainstream" conservatives went along for the ride.  Finally, I know you think the war in Iraq is the end-all-be-all to conservatism, but if you can step back from that for a moment, you may face the reality that the pro-war candidate is not going to win next November.  This means that Ron Paul may be the party's only chance.  This is probably going to be another dismal year for Republicans, and incumbents in general.  If conservatives determine to "hold the line" I'm afraid we're in for devastating results.  Is Iraq worth more to you than America?  Thank about it.

I agree that we have a problem inside the conservative movement, but I don't think we agree on what that problem is, PonRaul Fanboi.

For one thing; the owner of this site supports Giuliani. But he doesn't repetitively google Giuliani's name and slavishly rebut every negative post he finds in a misguided effort to win converts.

You people are making asses of yourselves with this behavior. Having a stable of fanatical defenders doing battle all over the web does nothing to improve Mr. Paul's cred with voters. Think about it.

15 I'm a Republican, but can we please acknowledge that the primaries are mostly run by annoying Church Lady types? THAT is why a dumbass like Brownback can come in third while the less religious appearing but still conservative Duncan Hunter doesn't.
