Jon Lovitz Beats Crap Out Of Andy Dick Over Phil Hartmann Crack

Jon Fuckin' Lovitz. God Bless him.

The whole thing is worth reading but I can't swipe it all.

IT was fight night at an L.A. comedy club last week when Jon Lovitz roughed up Andy Dick over the murder of their "Saturday Night Live" colleague, Phil Hartman.

Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, who witnessed the assault, said, "Jon picked Andy up by the head and smashed him into the bar four or five times, and blood started pouring out of his nose."

Lovitz told Page Six, "All the comedians are glad I did it because this guy is an asshole." [censored word uncensored by me]

Lovitz and Dick have been at loggerheads since a 1997 Christmas party at Hartman's house, five months before his troubled wife Brynn flipped out, fatally shooting Hartman, then killing herself. "Andy was doing cocaine, and he gave Brynn some after she had been sober for 10 years. Phil was furious about it - and then five months later he's dead," said Lovitz, adding that when he filled in on Hartman's "Newsradio" sitcom, "I told Andy, 'I wouldn't be here now if you hadn't given Brynn that cocaine.' "

Last year, Lovitz related, a drunken Dick strolled up to his table at Ago in West Hollywood, rudely downed his guests' peach liqueur drinks, and "looked at me and said, 'I put the "Phil Hartman hex" on you - you're the next one to die.' I said, 'What did you say?' and he repeated it. I wanted to punch his face in, but I don't hit women."

Apparently, though, he does slam their heads repeatedly into a bar.

Nice one. I haven't enjoyed Jon Lovitz' work this much since... well, I think I'm going to have to go back to the Harvey Firestein impersonation on this one.

Thanks to lauraw.

Dick Being A Dick On NewsRadio: Cuffy finds this "chilling." I don't know about that, but it is kinda funny.

Next up for the Lovitz Lobotomater: Al "Bonecrusher" Franken.

15 Only thing andy has is being insane enough to do the shit that he does, and most of the time it isn't funny. The thing that is funny about andy DICK's routine is that other people have the self control to not beat the living shit out of him.
Also, in the story, Lovitz commenting on the situation says he just shoved him against the bar, not an actual ass beating. Also, Sin had this hours ago.

17 I'm all for Dick getting his ass beaten. On a regular basis. Say hourly.
But. Unless there's video floating around, I'm going to have to put this down as two guys hollywood nancy's slapping, scratching, and flailing around while Dick squeals like a little girly.
Great idea, but Lovitz should have hired Chuck Norris to knock that little shitstain into the hospital for a couple of months.

19 Years ago, I remember Lovitz on Letterman's show being quite contemptuous of Hollywood types espousing political causes, and he said something like "oh yeah, that's who you want to look up to for informed commentary on world affairs - an actor." Very sarcastic and you could hear the contempt in every word.

I thought it was pretty cool.

Posted by: OregonMuse at July 17, 2007 03:57 PM (WqDqW)

20 Yeah, I shoved him up against the bar. Yeah. And then... And then I shoved his face through the mirror. Yeah, that's right. And then... And then grabbed his feet and spun him around a few times and threw him into the cash register. Yeah, that's right. And then... And then I cut his nuts off and fed 'em to Morgan Fairchild. Yeah. That's right. Morgan Fairchild. That's the ticket.

And she loved it.

22 The comment about phil hartman might be arguable, and the comment lovitz made on News Radio might be article, but it looks like there WAS a comment, and a conflict about that exact situation.
I hung out with stoners in highschool, and I did drugs, but I never got caught up in them, though I realy liked some of them, no really, I REALLY liked some of them.
Soon after I hooked up with some of my old friends an entertaining outsider and I went partying, and I was drunk and stupid enough to do coke a few years ago.
The next day, one of my friends threatened that outsider by saying "(Wickedpinto) has been walking the straight and narrow for almost eleven years and in one night you fuck that up? You better RUN! home."

Hartman was a great comedian. News Radio was a great show, the guy from Kids in the Hall is a good comedian, and the guy from Office Space who burned the building down is a great comedian. 66 Dick should have been charged like the whore who gave Belushi his last speedball.
To be fair, Belushi wasn't on the wagon at that point, and his own downward spiral was well underway and generally self-initiated. That's not to say that the douchebags who hang around these people, always ready to slip them some drugs (and by numerous accounts, the number of fans and groupies eager to give drugs to Belushi at any given time was simply staggering), aren't worthy of contempt, including Andy Dick and Cathy Evelyn Smith, but Smithwas no more responsible for Belushi's death than the last syringe he used.
I loved Belushi, but that cat was determined to die.

72 I remember reading an article after Hartmann died with Dick saying that he appreciated Hartmann for trying to help him through his problems. He said that Hartmann was like "a second therapist." Nice way to repay that favor, Andy; giving cocaine to the man's unstable wife. I almost wonder that if being a total f*-up is part of Dick's ongoing shtick, sort of like an even less funny Andy Kaufmann routine where Dick is secretly laughing at the people who actually bother to care about his self-destructiveness.

On the Shatner roast, Lisa Lampanelli quipped "Andy Dick is so gay he thinks Margaret Cho is funny." Gay, or such an a-hole.

75 Andy Kaufmann was funny though. And he had a craft, dick or not, err...eccentric or not, it was an art performancefor him. And he was clever about it, even if he was legitimately batshit crazy.

Andy, who IS A PIECE OF SHIT! can't be blamed, when Phil knew from day one that his wife was a nutjob.
He took the "opposites attract" thing to an extreme.
That doesn't forgive andy, but also? It doesn't forgive phil, based on the small celebrity info I'm allowed to recieve.

sexiest man she'd ever been with, small equipment, but dead sexy.
Go figure.

It may not take much physical strength to take on a dick like Andy, but
it apparently takes a moral strength sorely lacking among Hollywood
whores. I'm not talking about the head-slamming, which was awesome, but
the actual confrontation against someone dragging a weak person back
into the pit.

82 Damn, I was going to mention Dick's complete ripoff of Andy Kaufmann's schtick, but someone beat me to it. I disagree with Entropy that Kaufmann was funny--from what I've seen, Kaufmann and Dick are on the same level in that their "humor" was/is meant solely to amuse themselves. The difference is that Kaufmann had just enough self-control to not be universally reviled as a result; he was regarded as "strange" or "eccentric" but at least no one in the celebrity world wanted to stick a pen in his thorax.
I do give Kaufmann credit for one thing--he absolutely found his calling by getting involved in pro wrestling. I saw a small documentary a couple of years ago on that time period and his role in the whole deal, and it's amazing how awesome he was at playing the cowardly villian; those crowds wouldn't have pissed on him if he was on fire. The man essentially played a walking cartoon character his whole life, and the atmosphere surrounding that business was tailor-made for his personality.

Posted by: Kevin at July 17, 2007 09:14 PM (1cRKV)

89 Damn. I'm agreeing with WP here. Kaufman had the same cruel streak as
Letterman has, just that he was less inhibited. Andy Dick doesn't even
rise to the level of cruel because he'd have to have an IQ above 2
digits for that. He's just an embarrasment at any level, with any
group, by any name.

90 You mess with Lovitz, he'll set about ye.
Lovitz also pwned the otherwise-shitty movie Rat Race. The Barbie Museum? and then the drop-in at the WW2 memorial? Absolute genius.

91 And that weird space alien villian. In that weird movie. The one with space. And aliens.

92 I don't know who Andy Dick is.
But after reading all this, I'm thinking his name may be fitting...

Posted by: Uncle Jefe at July 18, 2007 12:05 AM (iBgga)

93 kaufmans participation in Pro-Wrestling was a demonstion of his disdain for his fans which show's how small his humor was.
I disagree entirely.
He was playing a villian.
That's what he's supposed to do. He did it exceptionally well. He made people loathe him, which was his goal as the villian. He's supposed to make you really really really want to see his ass kicked, and then that's when the good guy rides in and delivers to a cheering audience.
Like I said - Kaufmann was the greatest thing to ever happen to Jerry the King. You can't play the hero without a villian.
And Kaufmann's villian turned Lawler into an object of indescribable gratitude for everyone watching.

94 See...
Thats what kaufman thought of his fans, and what kaufman was himself.
Small and stupid and gullible.
WickedPinto's been played.
Kaufmann had him all along.

Posted by: Entropy at July 18, 2007 12:17 AM (HgAV0)

95 "WickedPinto's been played.
Kaufmann had him all along."
Ehh, fuck that shit. The thing I really hate about Andy Kaufmann and his fans are their "If you don't think he's a comedic genius then you don't get the joke" BS.
Niether of the Andys are funny, the only funny bits they played were written by others.

100 Well, ifKaufmann's wrestling performances piss you off, you definitely didn't get something.
He was playing, and that was the whole point of the act - to piss you off.
So if you're thinking "God I hate that bastard", then yes, you've been tricked. That's what he was trying to do - to elicit that emotion. To get you really, personally, angry at him over a performance. He incorporated the audience into the act and make them a part of it.
And you can't deny that anyone watching enjoyed seeing Andy get his ass kicked way way more then the loser of any other fight they'd seen.
Taking offense at his 'I'm from Hollywood' bit is like getting pissed at the Iron Sheik or the fake communist guy. They're playing the villians, they're not supposed to be nice or endear themselves to you.

102 Kennsinton is right, as well as the others, that Hartman bought a fixer-upper. My anger at Dick got the better of me. If they could indict the Duke 4, a ham sandwich, etc...why not Andy Dick? I guess that was my reasoning(?). If Dick was correct in stating that Phil helped him in his addiction, I believe him because Hartman had 1st hand knowlege of the disease(?). What a lonely piece of shit, that the onlt person he could share an "8 ball" with, was the guys' addict wife who tryied to help him.
