Lott: You're Stupid

121602lotttrent3.jpg

...and you're going to like it!

From Hugh Hewitt, this quote from Trent Lott:

"I'm sure senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people who don't even know what's in the bill," Lott said. He added that the "leadership will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done."
I am so happy the Senate GOP put this guy back into the leadership! Of course, I've come to expect this level of petulance from Lott, who doesn't like being questioned about anything he does while "representing" the people of his state.

Voters are just so darned inconvenient, aren't they?

"He added that the "leadership will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done."

And we the people, remember us? Your bosses? Well we will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done also. As the Donald would say YOUR FIRED!!

When did it happen? You know when did these asshats stop fearing us the voters?

Allow me to ReWriteTM that headline to respond to Senator Cave-A-Lott:

Lott, you're stupid

Amazing that a simple comma makes a statement truthful.

4 Wasn't it reported a few weeks ago that about 60% or so of the senators voting on the bill hadn't ever read it?

And he calls us uninformed?

This is the party that anointed the 'I support the undocumented immigrant' fucktard Mel Martinez as their chairman. No surprise here.

13 Considering Lott's philosophical (read economic interest) position here, and considering he's the Republican whip, this is a done deal. It's over but for the shoutin'.

Strong anti-amnesty Senators will get the OK to vote against cloture, the rest, and just enough as required, will vote to pass or will be excused from voting so long as a tie is not required to be broken by Cheney (which would be especially uncomfortable and sticky to Bush). Most consequential amendments will be voted down by very close margins, perhaps accompanied by gesticulating pleas on the floor, and the window dressing votes of more money thrown around here and there or some extra "certification" from Homeland Security requiring a Better Homes and Gardens Seal of Approval will pass with flying colors.

When this is done, and for a job well done, Lott will be granted funding for his railroad to be moved into a swamp and back out again just to give the voters from the other forty nine states an extra twist of the knife.

If we've seen this before, we've seen it a thousand times. Teddy the "K" explained the process at a picnic lunch.

I have to admit, the man may have a point. How many years did I support Republican candidates with money, time and votes? And this is what I get from them?

I guess I chose badly.

It can't be made any more clear that Congress considers the voting public nothing more than a nuisance.  Oh, there might be one or two, or even five members who still remember who put them there, but they are fighting deeply entrenched mafia dons who are untouchable, like kennedy, piglosi, reid, murtha, lott, byrd, schumer (?), etc.  What does it take to start a recall vote?

19 Entropy: "Which is why no one gets forgiven if it passes."

My sentiments, too. Not sure how I'll handle it at the ballot box yet, but Hunter and Tancredo are the only sure bets for me to flip the coin for President.

This is a vote and key race I'll probably keep an eye on - John Cornyn in Texas. He helped draft the original monstrosity and had to fight with John "F*** you" McCain for credit. Yes, he tried to add an enforcement provision at the end, perhaps as cover because he's in a very red state and the voters are plenty ticked. He flips on the big votes pretty regularly on this issue even though he's considered one of the stronger "anti-amnesty" advocates, so he's not of the doctrinaire enforcement type.

If Cornyn and Hutchison split votes or waffle all over the place, I'll know the thing will pass before final cloture. Cornyn's up for reelection, so he has extra incentive to play tough. Hutchison was just reelected, so I expect her to pander a bit more to the amnesty side.

31 What does it take to start a recall vote?

A Constitutional Amendment.

Or a revolution.

Your choice as to which one is more effective and/or likely at this point.

State laws cannot affect the terms of federal representatives.

Internal impeachment, constitutional change, or a tragic and untimely death are the only ways to get sitting federal representatives out of office.

And I know which direction I'm starting to lean.

33 What's particularly amusing here is that he's accusing the talk radio pundits - who have the bill in hand and reams of analysis of what it contains - of not knowing what's in the bill when he likely doesn't have any clue what it contains.

Really? I have that much power to lead from the pages of a blog? Wow, you guys are easy! In that case, send me foldable lucre, spare stocks (preferably Class A voting) and Valu-rite. It'll make you feel all warm and tingly. I promise.

Just to be clear, I voted for Bush I in his first term and Bush II for his second, so I did my part to screw up the party. Consider this contrition for those sins. Plus, I never suggested not contacting your representatives to pressure them either. I have heartily endorsed it for months going on years.

But by all means, a) presume to conclude that other readers cannot read up on the history I recall and the links I provide and form their own research, and b) ad hominize a lá Team Bush.

"...not knowing what's in the bill when he likely doesn't have any clue what it contains."

How about the added irony of his institution willing to pass the smoke-filled room version before all of the draft had been put to paper when no one had the chance to read it? Since when is knowing what's in the bill important to these guys?

Rule of Holes, Senator Lott. When you're in one, quit digging.

I believe the "electorate" is already prepared to do what needs to be done.  I can see a lot of seats changing hands next election.  It won't be lost on potential candidates that they can win big by making this a hot button issue.
