"Truthers" Never Sleep

They just show up on Greg Gutfeld's "Red Eye" at 2:00 AM to broadcast their insanity to the world.

Luckily, Allahpundit recorded the segment and has commented on it as well. And he did me a favor by posting it so I could put up an entry about it, so visit his link and watch the video.

I caught this segment when it aired last night and I was absolutely appalled at how glibly Samantha Judge, "Maxim's Radio Gossip Guru", tried to pass off her apparent belief in "truther" lunacy.

Apparently, "we just don't have a simple answer for what happened on 9/11" according to Ms. Judge. There's just too much "conspiracy" for us to ever know the "truth."

Now, it's true, I don't really expect much in the way of deep or even ANY, thinking from someone who is employed by Maxim to be a "gossip guru."

But I do expect a certain level of human decency. And that's one of the things that has always struck me about the "truther movement"; it simply has none. None for those who were killed. None for the families left behind. None for the people who are currently risking life and limb to prevent a similar attack from happening again.

It is "holocaust denial" for Generation Y. Only in this case it's as "fashionable" as a "Che" T-shirt because it isn't being touted by a bunch of cranky John Bircher's; it's being touted by a bunch of liberals in birkenstocks.

And it's "fashionability" is leading to it being increasingly mainstreamed. Years ago, even the most vapid of B-list celebrities (is Ms. Judge even a B-lister?) would be ashamed to go on National Television and willingly embrace his/her conspiratorial side.

Now? It's "chic". Or as self-proclaimed "feminist" Ms. Judge explains it, it's "subversive". Stick it to the man, Sammy!

To Red Eye's credit, Gutfeld and the rest of the gang didn't let Judge get away with it. And, knowing she was about to be PWNED she shut the hell up.

But I don't think they went far enough.

I think that Ms. Judge, and any other truther, should be denied a forum in which to spread their poison. They should be mocked and ridiculed and demeaned.

They have a right to believe their kooky theories. On their own time, and their own dime.

They do not have a right to demand that we respect their insanity. Or that we treat them with the decency they so willingly deny the victims of 9/11.

I would hope that Red Eye would cross her off the list of future guests. They can be forgiven for not knowing about her "trutherism" before she opened her mouth.

They can't be forgiven for ignoring it in the future.

I've already sent an e-mail to Red Eye asking that they disavow future affiliation with Ms. Judge.

If you would like to do the same here is the address: redeye@foxnews.com.

1 Truthers should be treated like they just said the n-word or took a dump on the coffee table. Or executed. Whichever.

2 Screw that...how are you going to hold them up for ridicule if nobody hears them?

I want them, front and center, preferably holding the flag of their favorite candidate.

Then pour on the derision and light a match.

I can't take the Truthers anymore.

Do they own TVs? Because, I'm pretty sure I watched the planes hit the buildings for about a week after 9/11. There were about 300 million other witnesses, if they don't want to take my word for it.

5 Ha! I saw this lastnight and thought she was joking when she said "subversive."
Then she continued with, "We still haven't got an explanation of what happened that day." That's when I knew that this chick should be in a tattoo store getting her nipples pierced not on my television set.

I used to meet these people face-to-face down at Ground Zero on the weekends, and I'm pretty sure that, while they may end up getting more press than other conspiracies out there, "9/11 Truth" will never attain mainstream status.

It has now become nothing more than a platform for losers and wanna-bes to show up their predecesors. They are not organized. There are probably just as many ridiculous theories out there as there are morons in the movement.

I agree with Krakatoa. Give them even more exposure so they can publicly discuss their directed-energy-beams, their mini-nukes, their fly-over theories, their CGI planes.

Let them dig their own graves.

It is moral relativism of facts. Facts are not 'better' for having proof, nor 'worse' for having none. All facts are equal. 2+2 = 4 is no better than . 2+2 = 5, or 8.

It is OK to make up 'facts' from whole cloth, as long as you like the story.

Stop being so damn judgemental. Like she says, that is starting a conversation! We have the freedom to spout blatant slanderous lies about our own country and that is.... OK.

Besides, Bush lied!

Sorry, that will only allow the MSM to use them to convince even more of the mind-controllable that it was directed-energy-beams, mini-nukes, fly-over theories, and CGI planes.

I think they should simply be told "Sorry, I am trying to put on a show for adults here and you don't qualify." That is the best antidote to their additction problem, which is their lust for media exposure in any way they can get it. Once they figure out it is working the other way round, they will shut up and spare the rest of us from their idiocy.

They don't believe what they are saying, or even the contrary to it for that matter: they have simply learned a la Pavlov that saying such shit is a way of getting attention. So start rewarding this particular bell with a kick in the ass out the door, instead of a juicey steak.

17 It's the Kennedy assassination all over again. A generation ago, these idiots would have been mimeographing pamplets and mumbling about the "magic bullet" and the "grassy knoll".

Now that that has finally worn off, the stupid paranoids need a new toy to play with. The internet enables them, but stupidity is the driving force.

Eventually, the fad will fade. The hard-liners will not give up, however, until a new conspiracy comes along.

I'm pretty sure that, while they may end up getting more press than other conspiracies out there, "9/11 Truth" will never attain mainstream status.

I don't know about that. Off the top of my head, didn't the latest poll say that something like 1/3 of democrats thought Bush had advance knowledge of 9/11, and 1/3 weren't sure? Didn't even 1/7 of the republicans surveded say the same thing?

Ace also posted something about how potential jurors in the Jose Padilla jury selection were saying they couldn't be sure about 9/11?

Sure seems to be getting pretty mainstream to me. Heck, we hear about it all the time. It isn't going away. As Mark Steyn says, demographics is destiny, and the Truthers unfortunately seem to have the growth demographics behind them.

Jacks right. These people should be subjected to merciless public contempt and ridicule.

Truther bastards.

20 Unfortunately those who say this isn't becoming mainstream are flat wrong because, frankly, people like Samantha are allowed to spout their hatred for the government and the victims of that day without someone slapping them down fast and hard with the facts. A friends son is a high school freshman at a local Catholic School. Loose Change has made the rounds of his class and has convinced the majority of them of it's "Truth". The same with 39 to 60% of the Democrat Party. She should be invited back and pummeled with the facts until she cries and is made to admit that she was an idiot for believing what she did. Then she should have to apologize to the families of the fireman, pilots, and all of the victims she maligned - because many of them would have most certainly had to have been involved in order for her theories to be true. What, like the idea that Carbon Dioxide from mans activity is going to change the climate, and thus destroy the earth? You know, CO2, the stuff that plants breath in and animals breathe out, is a pollutant!

Or even better, if we just outlaw incandecent bulbs and suvs, buy carbon offsetts and tax businesses for output, we can PREVENT the climate from changing?

Samantha was slapped down fast and hard with the facts. I mean, when Ellis Hennican is saying you're out there...

I'm tempted to agree, but I can't. Disproven how?

With the proof. If they keep bringing up their falsehoods, we have to keep bringing up the facts. It's annoying, but that's just how it works.

But nobody is doing that. Nobody on Red Eye, except for the Brit poofta, said "whaaaaaaa?" and bitch-slapped that dummy.

I guess I was watching a different clip, where they did exactly that. And then Levy addressed it in his Halftime Report.

29 Ladies and gentleman, there are Blue State Facts (BSF), and Red State Facts (RSF). An example of an RSF is that when an apple falls from a tree, it hits the ground due to earths gravitational force. 9/11 Truthers utilize BSF's which are independent of fact checking or logic. They beleive them to be true, and therefore, they are.

30 Maxim has words?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at May 08, 2007 10:02 PM (clI2H)

31 Jim Treacher,

Unfortunately, I don't think that a show like "Red Eye" (which is fast paced and pretty irreverent) provides much of a format by which the 'truthers" can be "contradicted". At most, Greg or another guest would spend 30 seconds banging the drums of reason, before moving to the next topic.

As a result, the truther leaves the big winner. He/She gets her message out, does it in a setting that makes him/her look hip and trendy, and ultimately emerges with his/her idiocy ratified by subsequent invites.

I really like Red Eye. I hate to think that it is a place where "truthers" feel at home. That's one of the reasons I hope Ms. Judge doesn't get repeat appearances. I am sure Gutfeld can find any number of fine guests to fill her spot that don't carry the stain of trutherism with them.

Posted by: Jack M. at May 08, 2007 10:03 PM (gfp19)

32

I guess I should clarify my definition of "mainstream".

Yeah... 9/11 conspiracy theories are everywhere. But this is the first conspiratorial event taking place in the information age. Blogs, YouTube, Google Video.... There's books out there. Everyone's made their own conspiracy movie. Radio shows devoted to it. Of course this shit's gonna be everywhere.

But who's paying attention to it? We're worried about some dumb blonde bitch who exposed her inanity on a cable news network at 2am? The Loose Change crew have been bragging about their latest version getting a worldwide theatrical release for over a year now. Where is it? Their second stab at "the truth" just got kicked off Virgin airlines.

Look at the "mainstream" people spouting this crap. Rosie O'Donnell? Charlie Sheen? ... C'mon now.

Posted by: Chad at May 08, 2007 10:05 PM (ycdDC)

33 Could be, Jack, but you could say that about pretty much anybody else on the show who ever says something you don't like.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at May 08, 2007 10:06 PM (Q03d8)

34 And I saw Hennican and Levy call Judge to task. I credited the show with having done that in my post.

But there comes a point when certain topics just ought not be dignified. If Ms. Judge had appeared on the show and said "I think we don't really know enough about the holocaust to blame the Nazis" would she be invited back? I tend to doubt it.

Why shouldnt trutherism be held to a similar standard?

Posted by: Jack M. at May 08, 2007 10:07 PM (gfp19)

35 I saw that. It was a damn shame. Andrew Levy took her down a peg in his halftime report.

Posted by: mbruce at May 08, 2007 10:08 PM (LLCm9)

37 How about putting it this way: I'd rather give someone the benefit of the doubt that they're capable of being educated than banish them for their ignorance. She's almost literally a kid. Maybe she just doesn't know any better. Maybe it's not a permanent condition. Call me an optimist.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at May 08, 2007 10:14 PM (Q03d8)

38 Well, I appreciate your optimism. But this is more than just "ignorance". This is, at the very least, "willful ignorance". Ms. Judge apparently thinks it's "subversive" to hold those beliefs, and yet she proudly used your show to articulate them.

Should the "Loose Change" jokers get 15 minutes on your show to discuss topical issues and also spew their anti-American bile?

I don't think that's a trade off worth making.

Posted by: Jack M. at May 08, 2007 10:22 PM (gfp19)

39

Well, we need optimists. But seriously, you let us know when you actually educate some truther into changing their view. I don't think it can be done.

But then I'm a pessamist about Truthers...

Posted by: Friendly wandering editor at May 08, 2007 10:22 PM (viKpR)

40 1. It ain't my show.
2. I don't think the Loose Change guys would get 15 minutes to go off on that or anything else, because I can't think of a topic on Red Eye that has gone longer than 4:30. Judge keeps getting invited back because she's photogenic and has relatively funny things to say about Paris Hilton and the like. If those guys have the same qualifications, let them audition.

I mean, she made one dumb comment about it and was promptly slapped down, and you guys are acting like she's one of the producers. She seemed pretty chastened by it when Levy mocked her about it. If she brings it up again, then maybe I'll start seeing it your way.

You are right...it isn't your show. I was thinking about seeing your byline on the "Daily Gut" website near the end of each show, and I misspoke as a result.

No..we aren't acting like she's one of the producers. I'm just a guy who watches the show and would like to see guests who don't mouth the truther line. That's it.

Look...if you want Ms. Judge to "learn" perhaps she should have the hammer dropped on her future appearances. It could be her very own "teachable moment".

Posted by: Jack M. at May 08, 2007 10:39 PM (gfp19)

43 "I'm just a guy who watches the show and would like to see guests who don't mouth the truther line."

That way lies madness. If you watch shows like this, every once in a while somebody's going to say something that drives you crazy. (Hell, once every 5 minutes.) The solution is not to shut them up, but to do what we're doing now: Discuss it.

49 And you know, you guys say she's a filthy Truther and she can get her mind-poison out there with impunity because of the nature of the show, but... who is she really convincing? Did anybody who was on the fence about 9/11 get swayed by her one or two sentences about it? Or did they say, "Wow, she's not particularly well-informed on this topic"? It's not like Gutfeld said "Go for it" and she hosted a Fahrenheit 9/11-Loose Change minimarathon.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at May 08, 2007 10:54 PM (Q03d8)

50 Paulitics,

That isn't actually the point.

I like the diversity of thought or opinion on Red Eye. I'm not suggesting that Judge be replaced by a conservative, as a lot of the fun is the politically charged banter.

I just think that "trutherism", like holocaust denial, goes beyond the pale of decency. And I think that those who engage in it should be shunned.

Although dont let that discourage you from linking to cantastic GOPers. There's always a place for that.

Posted by: Jack M. at May 08, 2007 10:56 PM (gfp19)

51 Jim,

On Fox she might not be convincing anybody.

But her biography is going to read "...and frequent FoxNews/Red Eye contributor Samantha Judge". And that is going to add credibility to her beliefs. She is going to think "I must not be too far off base, I keep getting invited back". And others who might cite her or listen to her in the future might be tempted to give her more credibility based on the fact that she frequently appears on TV.

69 Yeah, Jim, I think her presence on Red Eye gives her credibility.

I don't underestimate the power of television and/or celebrity. The more people appear on the tube, the more they become part of the mainstream. On talk shows, that includes their views as well.

It's an easy out to say "well, we're just a bunch if goofs on Red Eye and everything is snark and nothing should be taken without a grain of salt", but I think that does a great disservice to the show and it's viewers. Because that obviously isn't true.

They've been coddled their entire lives in a safe, middle class environment that they cannot fathom the presence, existence, and actions of evil as seen on 9/11. They can't think and can only "feel" and depend on others to tell them what opinions to hold, like they depend on others to determine fashions or fads.

All of the View's studio audience is stupid. Rosie is stupid. Her stupidity makes her even more popular. IMHO this chick's dumb/blond stupidity is pretty common (most beautiful women are fairly stupid, sad but true). Most actresses and models are lucky to have over room temperature IQs.

When confronted by absolute evil, like 9/11, many women like this chick have to make up conspiracy theories because the actual truth is too frightening and they are frankly too stupid to deal with it.

I mean this chick is a gossip columnist. That alone is proof positive she's profoundly stupid. [The Rasmussen poll suggests that Matt and Trey were right, a substantial portion of the American public is profoundly stupid.]

The real thing behind the '9/11truth' phenomenon is denial of the truth out of fear. Because 9/11 shows us that western civilization is under attack. Some people are afraid of what that entails, so they make up an alternate reality that they can live with.

It's easier for some people to believe 9/11 was an inside job and that everything will get back to normal when Bush is gone, than it is to believe we face an enemy bent on our destruction, which values death for its own sake.

Fortunately, the "Maddox Rebuttal" nails these chumps to the wall every single time. None of them seem to be able to adequately explain how a government that wields such enormous power would even allow a film like Loose Change to come to light.

Seriously, Maddox could make a fortune by selling t-shirts that said, "Watching Loose Change is like being bukkaked with stupid."

Obviously!

I mean, when Ellis Hennican is saying you're out there...

In fact, Hennican almost laughed at her. When you have someone as far left as him making fun of you, you are screwed.

IMO, Red Eye is one of the best shows on television. I am so happy they invented DVRs so that I never have to miss it.

Worth a repeat:

It's easier for some people to believe 9/11 was an inside job and that everything will get back to normal when Bush is gone, than it is to believe we face an enemy bent on our destruction, which values death for its own sake - Barry in Co

And it's also more evidence that the left is the John Birch Society turned inside out - always twisting etc. reality to try and make it fit into their preconceptions.

Well, bright-boy, I don't remember there being any terrorist attacks when the esteemed Bill Clinton (PBUH) was President!

Conspiracy theorists are continually revising history:

Pearl Harbor -- FDR knew about it and allowed it to happen

Gulf of Tonkin -- Orchestrated by LBJ

Desert One (failed rescue attempt in Iran) -- Caused by faulty parts introduced by Reaganist agents.

20% of any population is out of its gourd.

Illini, I hadn't heard the Reagan accusation.

But I did read the after action reports and the DIS investigation report, cause I worked on a program that was initiated as a direct result of our failed attack, the development of the MC-130 Combat Talon II.

They also integrated Special Operations Command.

86 I don't think this is just something which will fade away. It's getting its roots into the public consciousness. Everyone "knows" Kennedy was killed by some sinister CIA conspiracy; everyone "knows" FDR let the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor -- and soon everyone will "know" that 9/11 was a set-up.

Part of it is just that people are polite. If someone says something blatantly idiotic, they're reluctant to say "you're a moron." So they say something nice like "I guess we'll never really know what happened." But if you make someone say something over and over they come to believe it themselves. The more these moonbats can inject their filthy poison into public discourse, the more they can make people accept it and eventually believe it.

Here's what we can do: be assholes. Argue about it. Never let it go by unchallenged. Don't back down. Don't accept any face-saving compromise like "I guess we'll never really know." Keep being an asshole until they admit it was a conspiracy of Muslim terrorists who attacked America. And the next time, do it all over again. Make them admit the truth until they believe it.

That's takes way too much time and energy. Just point and laugh. Ridicule works far better than logic. People are more afraid of being laughed at than being stupid.

As for inviting her back, since she's a wacko tell her that she can't wear a bra.
"Sorry, we have a 'no bra' policy for crazy women"

Then, turn the a/c to 50 degrees. That way, I get to point and laugh and stare at her headlights.

That's just win-win.

Please people let's not overlook the facts-

Bush won by the narrowist of margins in 2000. Most Democrats went into fits of depression (see the Laurie David post).

Bush vowed to be "a uniter, not a divider" and kept on many of the former administration's people.

Clinton appointee George Tennet told Bush that evidence WMDs in Iraq was a "Slam dunk".

Valerie Plame's husband (and John Kerry supporter) went to Niger and wrote a report stating that Iraq was seeking yellow cake.

Unlike Clinton who bombed Kosovo without Congressional approval- Bush went to Congress and asked for approval to go to war. They gave it to him.

Domestic issues such as the improving economy and tax cuts were losers for the Democrats and they needed something that would take a while to acomplish (nation building). So, Democrats upset over the 2000 election set up Bush, encouraged him to go to war and then turned on him. Hollywood (notoriously leftist), the best experts at big special effects productions, helped orchestrate 9/11. Couple of robot controlled planes, some fake arab jihadi videos and the American public was primed for war. A year later, the left turned and started to convince the public that Bush lied. Enter Hillary in '08.
