Bo Derek's Birthday

The legendary body turns 50.

I suspect some of you will be googling yourselves past exhaustion over this news.

1 I never got the fascination. She couldn't be dumber -- there were plenty of hot women around that weren't so godawful stupid.

2 lauraw,

Bo Derek bikini picture? Please? Some posts SCREAM for a picture and this is one.

I was going through adolescence when "10" came out so I wasn't really focused on her math skills.

If you know what I'm saying and I think that you do.

Posted by: Rosetta at November 26, 2006 02:45 PM (CTqCo)

3 I've seen interviews with her and don't find her at all unintelligent. Maybe a bit dingy sometimes, but not stupid.

Afterall...she has been one of the few actresses with the balls to come out publicly with her right leaning political beliefs.

As for her looks, at a time when shoulder pads and huge hair were hip, she was the all-natural girl and has grown even more beautiful with age.

Posted by: jmflynny at November 26, 2006 03:02 PM (iAdm7)

4 The original title was too racy from the time, so they left off the quotes symbol, ", when the movie went into production.

Just sayin', Bo's cute and all, but she's only an eight.

The movie is called '10' - if you get my drift.

and I think you do.

5 mesa, I'll trade you a Madeline Albright for Bo Derek. How's that?
I've seen the interviews with her too. She isn't stupid unless you're a Blondist.

Posted by: cranky at November 26, 2006 03:09 PM (Xj2Ev)

6 I'll do cranky one both Janet Reno and Hillary Clinton for Ms. Derek.

Posted by: Old Coot at November 26, 2006 03:19 PM (K13iK)

7 No thanks cranky,

I'm happy with our current crop of conservative hotties like Ms. Ham and Mrs. Malkin.

Posted by: mesablue at November 26, 2006 03:30 PM (DzeyU)

8 Damn, Mesa! Do you have any idea how hard it is to unload a Madeline Albright?

Posted by: cranky at November 26, 2006 03:36 PM (Xj2Ev)

9 Don't leave out Bethany.

Posted by: cranky at November 26, 2006 03:37 PM (Xj2Ev)

10 Rosetta, just do a google 'images' search. I didn't see any decent news photos to link to, and I don't want to run afoul of any copyrights.

Posted by: lauraw at November 26, 2006 03:47 PM (DbybK)

11 She is stupid, she's an animal activist but doesn't know that horses aren't native to the america's.

If you are an animal activist seaking to protect horses, and you don't know that horses aren't native to the America's, then you are stupid.

And I never really got into her body that much, though as a kid, I tortured myself by watching bolero so I could us it at spank bait.

I dug the corn rows much more.

12 Way to make me do all the work...

Posted by: Rosetta at November 26, 2006 04:12 PM (CTqCo)

13 spank bait?

Learn somethin new every day.

Posted by: kevlarchick at November 26, 2006 04:27 PM (otuOL)

14 yeah Kevlarchick.

Like Hamnantion.

Did I just say that?

I do not masturbate to hamnation, at least, not often.

What am I saying?

15 I may be the only one who saw Tarzan, starring Bo at least 5 or 6 times in the theater.

Joint custody.

Wicked - the retrobate's thesarus. What were those books you recommended again? I need to write them down in my to get list. Thanks!

Posted by: Stormy70 at November 26, 2006 05:14 PM (7WJsV)

16 Pretty much everything by William Gibson, and Stephen Bruust.

Get Neuromancer first (amont the gibson books) and bruusts Taltos novels are very enjoyable, and just long enough to be novels, but jam packed with story, The order of purchase and reading for the taltos novels should be

I think.

Another fun series, if you can tolerate a little bit of rambing is the vorkosigan novels by. . . .Lois McMaster Bujold.

In addition, a book that you will likely never find, is "War Birds" by RM Mulloch (the R. is Rebecca) and it's one of my favorite war books. In fact my first net moniker was "Sturmscwalbe"

For more variety, of course get scalzi's "Old Mans War" it won the campbell prize this year.

Also, Pick up one of the compilation books. Like the hugo collections, or the "years best sci-fi" books.

All of those are filled with short stories.

Another author I like (I alwas fuck up his name) Wolf? he wrote the "urth" books.

They basicaly are executed in the same way as Camus' s "The Stranger" only with a lot more killing and ninjafied fantasy stuff.

If you haven't read "The Stranger" read it, one of the best fucking books ever written.

17 And here is Daves Archived post that you are referencing stormy.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 05:38 PM (QTv8u)

18 Thats Right!

George R. R. Martins "song of ice and fire" or "fire and ice" I forget the order.

umm. . . .

A game of thrones
A clash of kings
A storm of swords
A murder of crows (I think) though I haven't gotten the most recent one yet, it is supposed to be too closely linked to the one that is coming out. . . .whenever it is coming out.

19 Do you have any idea how hard it is to unload a Madeline Albright?

Convert her to Islam. Paradise has to be running short of virgins these days...

20 I hear that kim jong il pays a major premium in forged US money and false promises for a Madeline albright.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 05:58 PM (QTv8u)

21 Also,

Stormy? I forget You a chick?

If you are a chick, you won't experience quite the discomfort that comes witht he marion zimmer bradley "Darkover" books.

If you are a guy (sorry, I don't keep track of this shit, I called rosetta a chick for about 8 months) then you will likely spend about 2/3d's if not more of her novels very "cringible" If you want to excercise your shoulders, read those books, and don't bitch about the cramps in your shoulders.

22 WP:

Horses were native to North America -- see Eohippus ("Dawn Horse) and its progeny.

They were hunted to extinction before the end of the Ice Age. Re-introduced to the Western Hemisphere by the Spanish.

Just sayin'.

As for Bo at 50: Wowza!

23 equine like creatures, and horses are different.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 06:27 PM (QTv8u)

24 I'm with the "nice body but she never did that much for me" crowd. Catherine (Daisy Duke) Bach was much sexier even with some clothes on. Neither one of them is going to be coming up with a Unified Field Theory any time soon, of course, but how many women can be Hedy Lamarr?

Posted by: Trimegistus at November 26, 2006 06:41 PM (6QdQZ)

25 Wonder Woman Was FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

and in her prime the chick from "bye bye birdie"

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 06:44 PM (QTv8u)

26 but how many women can be Hedy Lamarr?

How about Jane Mansfield?

She was the president of her Mensa cult thingy.

Jane mansfield 100% natural huge tits, with a brain that outweighed her massive juggs.

ALSO the mother of Mariska Hargitay. (which is one of the coolest fucking names in all of showbiz)

27 but how many women can be Hedy Lamarr?

Posted by: cat4amt at November 26, 2006 06:47 PM (3quZI)

28 I don't know if it's a fact, but my brother likes digging up acenstry on his favorite actors.

According to my brother, Mariska isn't just jane's daughter, but also, was in the car, when jane died, supposedly, mariska deliberately keeps long bangs so that she can cover a scar on her forehead that she recieved during that crash.

just a bit of random info.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 06:49 PM (QTv8u)

29 Well, Tippy Hedrons daughter became a cyborg. Jesus, why do beautiful women go to doctors and make themselves ugly?

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 06:50 PM (QTv8u)

30 I am a chick, but I don't like chick fantasy with too much romance and crap. I have already started buying that George R. Martin series at half priced books.

Thanks for all the book info that I can add to my "look for" list at the bookstore.

Posted by: Stormy70 at November 26, 2006 06:56 PM (7WJsV)

31 No sweat stormy,

And MZB is most definately not CHICK fantasy, it's. . .just, well, read "two to conquer" I think is it's title.

It's good, but it's kinda disturbing.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 07:04 PM (QTv8u)

32 wicked,
loved the taltos novels (but novel is a stretch) I have read and enjoyed most of your list, good stuff! Looking at my bookshelf I see David Eddings (I loved the smartass god) In a different genera China Mievelle In Perdido St Station has some of the most imaginative, freakishly strange, (cactus people... spider gods...) so different it is worth a look

Posted by: vmaximus at November 26, 2006 07:20 PM (B7C7w)

33 Maximus,

I store most of my books at my brothers house (I'm relatively impoverished, my brother, most definately is not) and almost every time I do work over at my brothers place, I dig around for "War Birds" and I can never find it.

It really is an AWESOME novel, and I'm pissed off that I can't re-read it at m own convenience.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at November 26, 2006 08:00 PM (QTv8u)

34 Read SF? Read John Ringo and David Weber. Ringo? Who else would save the world from a nanotech plague from a Hooter's restaurant? Weber? Honor Harrington, a character C.S. Forrester would be proud to have created.

And shit blows up like you wouldn't believe?

35 ...but how many women can be Hedy Lamarr?

Well, for one, there's Danica McKellar. Not only is she an attractive woman, she is also some kind of serious math genius. Somewhere on the innertubes, you can download a peer-reviewed paper she co-authored, on a mathematical topic I could not even begin to understand.
