"Chris Matthews grabbed the democratic candidate, turned him upside down, and put his penis in his mouth..."

Headline thanks to jj.

Jim Webb's strange writings, via Drudge:

"The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy's penis in his mouth..."

Hot.

This is all so stupid, but if this is the game -- the game the Washington Post has turned the contest into -- then by all means, let us play the game as well.

Thanks to Robert.

Also From Spruiell's Media Blog: Chris Matthews furiously pimps idiotic "racism" charges against Republican ads; and Romney smack-down of a reporter-moron who seems to have forgotten precisely whom was elected as a representative of the people of Massachusetts:

That reporter is so indicative of the MSM, and liberals in general, who believe that they are working for "the people," and must criticize just for the sake of criticizing, because criticism is NOBLE and a LIBERAL IDEAL and TRUE PATRIOTISM.

18 From what I can see, the Democrats are offended by the deep revulsion it brings them to see:

A white woman wink at a black man

A black man who is too 'nice'

Drums being played during an ad when a black man's picture appears, even if it also plays when a white man is pictured.

To those of us who don't consider race the deciding factor for every issue, it sounds like they are the ones with deep seated prejudices.

I mean, the vast majority of us have mixed racial families in our lives, we have many black friends who we consider quite nice, and we have heard John Bonham play without picturing those friends and family members dancing in loin cloths.

We just aren't offended, or even surprised or bothered, by these things being depicted on TV. Maybe democrats need to get out more, they seem to think the majority of Americans think like THEY do.

Christians are able to make the distinction between politics and doctrine. Unlike the historical concerns about Catholics, there is no concern about temporal authority superceded by a Pope. Jack Kennedy proved that Catholic concern unfounded.

94 Well the folks at The Daily Kos seem to have a plan for dealing with this:

"So, the Internet is all atwitter with the latest smear by Senator Felix Macaca on Jim Webb, taking various disturbing pasages from fictional novels written by Webb."

First, I think it's a bad form to complain about smear by including a smear but that's a matter of personal preference (apparently all smears are equal, but some are just more equal than others).

The consensus over there seems to be this is an opportunity to point out Webb went to Vietnam and Allen didn't.  Two thoughts:

1-Good luck with that plan. "Sure I wrote about homosexual, under-age incest but I am vet!"...I don't think that one will fly very high or far.

2-When did the Democrats become the party of Vietnam Vets?  Did I miss a memo or something?  Didn't they hate the war and the warriors (those reincarnations of Jengis Kahn)? And weren't draft dodgers the real heroes in their minds?

97 Sean, I actually can't help but wonder if they actually are out of context. I guess we'll be told soon enough, and then be told why the first thing we were told isn't true, etc.

Posted by: DaveS at October 27, 2006 12:29 AM (m/5FH)

98 Oh, and if they ARE out of context, Allen is a fucking idiot and doesn't deserve to win. He's up in every poll. Why rock the boat?

Posted by: DaveS at October 27, 2006 12:30 AM (m/5FH)

99 For context (and it doesn't really look any better in that light) see RWN, who actually broke this ten days ago.

100 Senator McCain was a fan of this book:

James Webb’s new novel paints a portrait of a modern Vietnam charged with hopes for the future but haunted by the ghosts of its war-torn past. It captures well the lingering scars of the war, and exposes the tension between the dynamism of a new generation and the invisible bondage of an older generation for whom wartime allegiances, and animosities, are rendered no less vivid by the passage of time. A novel of revenge and redemption that tells us much about both where Vietnam is headed and where it has been.

102 Man, I missed the incest angle on the first read - I thought it was just grotesque pederasty. With the incest angle in there as well, I'd say this guy pegged the taboo meter. At least he's completely grossed me out.

Is lemonheads a satire troll? I know it's hard to tell the difference sometimes, but that surely looked like somebody messing around. How else to fit so much idiocy in one comment?

108 Screw the election.

How about a Thuderdome match between Allen and Webb.

If the media focuses on the tamer stuff (a girl in a robe? The horror!) it may distract from the bad stuff and make Allen's campaign look out of touch with moderates.

It wasn't some girl, it was the protagonist's mother.  And people should go read the context of the little boy passage at that RWN link.  I was wondering of the man was going to be a villian in the piece who Webb makes as despicable as possible to increase the value of hiis inevitable comeuppance in the conclusion, but no, apparently that scene was just put in for "local color."

112 But seriously, Webb's a piker in the porn department...I mean, where are the underage tranny thai whores?!?

Page 449, paragraph 4, right after the scene where the half-dozen midgets in gimp outfits pour Thousand Island dressing all over the hog-tied submissive with the Mondale/Ferraro ball gag in his mouth.

This thing's a real page turner!

113 The press needs a reminder that it is there to ask questions not make statements, and I think the time has come to require questions to be submitted in writing, limited to one sentence and end in a friggin question mark so they can be screened in advance and have the pontificating non-questions weeded out (and their author banned from future press conferences). This sh!t is really lame, and really old.
