HuffPo Poster (NOT Commenter) Pines For Another 9/11 To Force American "Regime Change"
I Hope And Pray We Don't Get Hit Again-BUT..... I hope and pray we don't get hit again, like we did on September 11. Even one life lost to the violence of terrorism is too much. If I somehow knew an attack was coming, I wouldn't pause for a second to report it in order to prevent it from occuring. But on the other hand, I remind myself that without the ultimate sacrifice paid by 400,000 U.S. soldiers in World War II, tyranny could well have an iron grip on the world, and even on this nation.Thanks to Michael G and Stace, who actually tipped me before, but I saw Michael's email first.
If the Nazis had prevailed, tens, if not hundreds of millions more would have been killed. That realization has led my brain to launch a political calculus 180 degrees removed from my pacifist-inclined leanings. An entirely hypothetical yet realpolitik calculus that is ugly, and cold-hearted but must be posited: What if another terror attack just before this fall's elections could save many thousand-times the lives lost? I start from the premise that there is already a substantial portion of the electorate that tends to vote GOP because they feel that Bush has "kept us safe," and that the Republicans do a better job combating terrorism. If an attack occurred just before the elections, I have to think that at least a few of the voters who persist in this "Bush has kept us safe" thinking would realize the fallacy they have been under. If 5% of the "he's kept us safe" revise their thinking enough to vote Democrat, well, then, the Dems could recapture the House and the Senate and be in a position to: Block the next Supreme Court appointment, one which would surely result in the overturning of Roe and the death of hundreds if not thousands of women from abortion-prohibiting states at the hands of back-alley abortionists; Be in a position to elevate the party's chances for a regime change in 2008. A regime change that would: [typical laundry list of liberal fantasias omitted] I am not proud of myself for even considering the notion that another terror attack that costs even one American life could ever be considered anything else but evil and hurtful. And I know that when I weigh the possibility that such an attack- that might, say, kill 100- would prevent hundreds of thousands of Americans from dying who otherwise would- I am exhibiting a calculating cold heart diametrically opposed to everything I stand for as a human being. A human being, who, just so you know, is opposed to most wars and to capital punishment. But in light of the very real potential of the next two American elections to solidify our growing American persona as a warlike, polluter-friendly nation with repressive domestic tendencies and inadequate health care for so many tens of millions, let me ask you this. Even if only from the standpoint of a purely intellectual exercise in alternative future history: If you knew us getting hit again would launch a chain of transformative, cascading events that would enable a better nation where millions who would have died will live longer, would such a calculus have any moral validity? Any at all?

- if a person commits sex crimes, an $0.85/hour or $n/hour won't do anything for the person they probably didn't use condoms or lube in the past anyway so the money may only allow for a non-generic smoke after the violent act

Jiggidy didn't say (that I saw) that there was any desire on his part, but rather that politicians on either side would use an incident to their own ends. Which is true. We may think one side of the aisle is less scummy than the other, but I don't think any of us here trust politicians all that much in the long run. It's one of those substantial differences between left and right. The left thinks that the correct politicians can solve world hunger, cure all diseases, end all poverty, and usher in a perfect sin-free world. The right thinks that the best you can get from politicians is a minimal amount of corruption, graft, and inefficiency.

What scares me is the threat that rears its head when the technology is truly available to bring a real apocalypse.
In the end, I only care for the propagation of the race. We need off this rock. The rest is minor details.

Yes, we're going to have to have forced history lessons as part of the camp programme. Some Friday night historical perspective for you all... I was pretty intrigued at the Civil War reference by the nihlist who attacked my previous post. I'm posting this about 60 yards up a hill on my farm from where a young 18-year-old died in 1858 on his way to force open some bridges to Kansas so anti-slavery people could move into the state, prior to the Civil War.
Many Americans don't know that there was a war being fought well before the outbreak of the recognized Civil war. Neighbor against neighbor, town against town indeed. My own town (a bunch of "progressivists" as they were known in their day - starting one of the first colleges in the west) supported John Brown, held weapons in people's cellers and staged raids to stop the pro-slavery folk from blocking all the bridges into Kansas. Because Kansas was about to vote on the matter of whether it would be a free or slave state, this was a big matter. The underground railroad took place in my friends basements. There's blood in the soil down my hill that was spilled for freedom.
I posted my previous message to remind those on the left that those of us that will respond are here, watching. We've been quite and lazy, but many have awoken to recognize there's a threat - posts like that referenced in the main thread help us to realize our families and liberties are at risk. We support our President and government and see Democracy as the only opportunity to put an end to the cycle of tyranny. We're fortunate that the good people run the government, but face a real threat.
Should they continue to threaten the liberties and families of good people in their nihlistic quest, fear will be their companion.

Ace, this probably isn't noteworthy, but in the last month members of the press have mentioned that 100 residents of Baghdad are being admited to the morgue each day. Iraq has been in a state of low-level civil war for years and baghdad is really nasty, but I doubt the 100 dead from civil war claim that the press is making. How many people in Baghdad died from old-age last month? I know for a fact that doctors in the M.E. are often quoted and often lie, is it possible that this is one of those cases? I think the stats are bullshit (they always are). I could be wrong, but I thought I would throw it out into the

Our town was actually a subroute and waypoint for the Underground railroad. Did a tour of old houses, and got to go in the crawlspaces and hiding spaces. Some were fairly obvious, but others will pretty damn inconspicuous, if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't find it. Usually in rich peoples homes in the countryside.

It's great to know there are people who study the history. My impression from the civil war era was that people on both sides were shocked with the violence and how quickly it arose.
It's actually a shame we've lost the perspective of just how great that shock was - I guess two world wars does that to you. Sinastar - If you ever visit Iowa, check out the town of Lewis - just southwest of Atlantic. They were a few stops up the railroad from our little town and they've got one of the nicest underground railroad stops I've visited (the Hitchcock family house, just southwest of town). Incidentally, it was their boy who died on my farm - someone we think of and say a prayer for.
Indeed, the Civil War is a great metaphor to this conflict.

Red Herkey has been posting about Bloody Kansas - where Democrats conducted a campaign terrorism to prevent self-determination of the free=holders in the Kansas territory underr the Kansas-Nebraska Act (providing for the prospective states entering the union to determine for themselves whether they would be free or slave).
The Kansas Nebraska Act was a compromise to prevent the secession of the slaves states due to the failure of the previous compromise that was made to prevent Civil War and secesstion - The Missouri Compromise (Missouri Compromise required that for each free state admitted to the Union a slave state also had to be admitted so that the slave states wouldn't be outnumbered more than they already were in the Senate).
They were already guaranteed extra and illegitimate representation in the House because their slaves, which had no voice or vote, were counted as population toward apportionment of House seats by another Devil's compromise just to get the Constitution ratified.
This is the "3/5ths of a man" canard that is trotted out by race baiters that have no idea that if slaves had been counted as a whole person for population that we might still have black slavery to this very day! God knows that there was no shortage of muslims (still trading in slaves today!) to satisfy their demand.
They couldn't win despite the Whig party selling it's soul several times over to "save the country" -which made the conflagration that much worse - s6 they rebel. And when they lose their war they go back to terrorism (Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, etc. are all Democrat post-civil war inventions).
A friend asked me why I hate the Democrat party and I responded that for the same reasons I hate the Nazi Party or the Communist Party and I recounted several of these sins. "Be serious," she said, "the Democratdon't support slavery anymore", to which I responded, "The Nazis aren't burning people anymore, either, but I'll never join their party!"
After that she spluttered and was so enraged that we had to agree to never discuss politics again.

Wars aren't won because of spreadsheet comparisons. North Vietnam was on the losing end of such comparisons versus the US/RVN and, if I seem to recall, Saigon was renamed to Ho Chi Minh City. Obviously, the North had the will and the leadership, so the economics and demographics made it easier. But had the South reverted to guerrilla warfare, things might have ended differently, because in that context, the final outcome would be dependent on the North's willingness to occupy and pacify the South for a decade or more. Thankfully the Confederacy did not do this, so more classical means of obtaining victory could be utilized.
Today, we are in a multifaceted war where are enemies are using political, religious, military and paramilitary means to conduct it. We will have to respond, as we have, in a multifaceted way. It still is possible to lose this war, despite our material advantages, because we could end up with an America with European attitudes even if another attack doesn't happen. That would be a total loss.
That is what is so disturbing about the modern Democratic Party. Their national political victory would necessarily mean the victory of our enemies in the War on Terror. Just as it would had Lincoln been defeated in 1864 (yes, I know, McClellan was in favor of continuing the war, but with an administration made up of people who wanted a negotiated settlement, do you really think his stand would have prevailed?). To top it off, modern Democrats don't care about the consequences and seem to be determined to bring America into decline however they can (though they already believe it is).
So, it will come down to the voting majority. Seen statistically, not a whole lot of people but hopefully enough to get this job done.

I wouldn't say it was impossible for the Confederacy to have beaten the Union. As it were, they did much better then they should have done, considering the Union advantages, but nothing's ever garaunteed.
Could you imagine how things might have happened if a Union soldier hadn't accidently stumbled upon Lee's battle orders before the battle of Antietam?
McClellan was barely able to turn back Lee even with those orders and vastly superior forces. It's possible Lee would have crushed the Army of the Potomac, held Maryland, and been within striking distance of the White House.

Oh and Laura the best italian place here in Atlanta is authentic italian replete with dark booths, crisp white table cloths and mama Benedetti in the back cooking from scratch. She makes the wickedest chicken piccata my anorexic 13 yr old double orders and just about licks the plate clean. And the "stink rolls" dripping in garlic butter. mmm mmm.
And the homemade tiramisu and cannolis are to die for.

Emory area. N Decatur and Clairmont. It's in a little strip center and it doesn't look like much, but sure is good. The piccata is just the right amount of lemon and the cream is so light it just tastes like dessert.

I love Pappadeaux. The fondue is incredible. I tried to make it, but didn't get the cheese quite right. If you melt it too fast and add cream too soon it just gets chunky like spoilt milk. It was gross, and was a waste of some really expensive cheese. Not to mention the scallops and mushrooms and shrimp.
I also love the lobster salad there. You eat and eat and the damn thing gets bigger.
I'm gonna have to stay out of the wine first, and try to do the fondue right next time.

Never use small leaves, they are too bitter, and all I got is a butteload (approx, 156 imperial gallons) of stalks and nickle sized leaves.

I noticed that Mr. Russel Shaw is one of your bloggers, specifically,

Mr. Shaw recently posted an article on The Huffington Post
(http://www.huffingtonpost.com) where he indicated a hope that America
is hit with another terrorist attack like the attack on the World
Trade Center so that Mr. Shaw can have the next U.S. election go his
way. This is the equivalent of Mr. Shaw stating that if killing 3,000
Americans would cause the U.S. election to go a certain way, he would
be in favor of going and killing those 3,000 Americans. The article

They're anything BUT bleeding hearts. The only reason they cowtow to minorities is so that they can stay in power. Their policies, however, actually keep the poor from advancing so that they have a steady stream of votes to keep them afloat. Jackson and Sharpton fill their coffers with the money of "disaffected" blacks in America, while waiting for race tensions to calm down again so they can re-stir the pot at their leisure. They are pathetic. It's exactly the same as what this heartless blogger advocates here...anything for power. I'm revolted.
