Ron Paul Clarifies: I Meant What I Said About Chris Kyle and Yes That Was Me

He issued a clarification -- which is in fact just a confirmation that he meant what he said when he ghoulishly blamed the victim for his own murder.

His statement here-- that unconstitutional wars have "endless consequences."

Which as it stands is an unobjectionable enough statement... the problem is of course that he gleefully pointed out that Chris Kyle got what he deserved, when he observed "Live by the sword, die by the sword."

There are nicer, softer hippies, and there are harder, nastier hippies. The first sort might attempt to maintain some distinction between his hatred of war and his hatred of the individual warrior, who, after all, is just doing a job that society has asked him to do and can't even refuse to do that job once he signs up. (Apart from a never-invoked Nuremberg exception.)

The nasty hippie hates soldiers just as much as he hates war. Because Ron Paul was a politician, running in military-supporting Texas, he pretended to care about the soldiers themselves. (Precisely as he pretended to be interested in fighting the Taliban, when he voted for the AUMF right before an election, and then immediately retracted his support immediately thereafter.)

Now that he's out of office he can stop pretending, and so he lets his freak flag fly and giddily applauds as the militarists get their due.

Glenn Beck congratulates Ron Paul on joining the Westboro Baptist Church (the crazies who protest military funerals because "God Hates Fags").

And in fact he's not exaggerating. He may have been exaggerating when he said that, but recent events have rescued the statement from the category of exaggeration. The Westboro Cultists and Idolators really did ride to Doctor Paul's defense (Update II).

A Medal of Honor winner, Dakota Meyer, asks if he's lost his mind.

Nope. He's just freed now to express it honestly. He's the same soaking-in-your-own-hatred nasty hippie he's always been.

Ron Paul is what he is: a batshit crazy, antisemitic conspiracy theorist who counts lowlife scumbags such as Willis Carto and Alex Jones as friends and business associates. Ron Paul IS the libertarian wing. I mean, Christ, he's been the leader of the libertarian wing of the Republican Party for years, and before that, he was a big 'L' Libertarian.

The only way the libertarians can separate themselves from Ron Paul is for them to disavow him, and by 'them' I mean those GOP politicians who identify as libertarian-leaning, excluding his son. 91 Poor Rand.

Bullshit. I have zero sympathy for the coward.

Blood may be thicker than water, but politics is politics. Rand should be in a better position than anybody to know how batshit crazy his father is, yet he endorsed him for President.

That was forgivable though.

Now, after Ron Paul lets his true, vile feelings be publicly known, Rand couldn't be bothered to offer even the mildest criticism. He called Kyle a hero, but didn't so much as suggest his dad apologize.

That isn't so forgivable.

Yesterday I expressed concern that Rand might be a Paulian Manchurian Candidate. His silence removed all doubt as far as I'm concerned. To Hell with both of them.

The only thing that comes close is Joe Biden's remarks to a grieving father after the Benghazi incident when Biden said the man's son had balls 'bigger than these', with Biden indicating billiard balls. Even so, Biden was being Biden: crass and inappropriate. He didn't mean to be mean or hurtful.

115 I was not aware that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were unconstitutional. We had an AUMF that gave wide latitude to the president as to who and where we fought. It would have been difficult to do otherwise given the nature of the enemy we faced which was not a sovereign country but operated with the aid and indulgence of many countries who saw AQ and such groups as a means to get at us without being held responsible.

I can see where politicians voting for something as nebulous as an AUMF as opposed to a declaration of war might be seen as a way for them to cover their asses by saying they didn't mean to authorize that usage of force but nevertheless Congressional approval was given. This was not at all the case in Libya or in Syria etc...

Paul is really odd. He is about the only sane politician around when it comes to matters of the economy and domestic liberty but he is shitbird crazy when it comes to national defense. If Rand can drop the latter and keep the former we may have ourselves a winner.

119 OT from an article on The Huffington Post:

It was early December when his mom called to tell him the
news. ... He was, understandably, upset. And when he told me, I
remember thinking, somewhat selfishly, "Please don't let her die." Now, I
genuinely wanted her to be okay, for the normal reasons. But it was
also selfish. I had been slowly realizing over the last few months that I
was not happy with my life. And a large part of it was that I was not
happy with who I had married. I hadn't yet admitted out loud that I was
thinking about divorce, but I was on the brink. And when I learned that
his mom might have brain cancer, of all things, I saw a future
flash before my eyes. I saw tragedy and grief and I saw myself unable to
escape. Because you can't ask someone for a divorce when their mother
has brain cancer.
I tried my best to comfort him. I desperately wanted to convince him that she would be fine. And I did want her to be fine--I needed her to be fine.

She's a keeper.

146 Ron Paul is NOT "one of our own." He ran for president in order to make money and insult Bush, which was apparently his mission

Every Republican debate has been filled with his time-wasting gyrations and his idiot supporters packing the audience. His anti-war presence allowed the democrats to claim high ground in opposing the war.

He is anti-Semitic and insane. I also believe he is EXACTLY like the Westboro gang. Westboro is there to make Christians look like knuckle-breathing homophobes, which undercuts the Christians who support the GOP. Paul was the anti-war Republican, undercutting the War on Terror.

The bare minimum for being in the GOP is to support the troops and have a shred of decency towards widows and orphans. Paul failed on both counts. He should be formally removed from the party.

And the ONLY explanation I will accept for this is if he is permanently hospitalized with dementia or Alzheimers.

180 When I saw the story that CK had died I actually thought the exact same phrase to myself. "live by the sword die by the sword." I knew immediately I could never repeat it because it would be insanely insensitive... Crazy people don't have those type of filters.

Snipers are traditionally disliked by even their fellow soldiers. This is less true today than it was in the past; But true none the less. They (snipers) hold an eerie power over the battlefield in that the target rarely knows what's coming... Soldiers like to think they are dying with honor facing their enemy looking them in the eye and seeing it coming. Well, at least traditionally trained soldiers do. Mr. Paul is likely just one of those who inherently dislikes the unfair nature of the sniper... Snipers don't face the enemy, they decide whether or not the enemy lives or dies. The target has no choice in the matter, he cannot be brave enough to live, he cannot be smart enough to live, he cannot fight hard enough to live. He is completely at the mercy of a man 1000 yards a away. The Sniper...

and Ron Paul, being nutbag crazy; he just let's what ever nonsense that he thinks roll off his tongue.

218 168 JDP,

Right a "lot of it" I have about three main theories.

1) there has been a purposeful infiltration of churches by radicals dating back to the 60s as a second wave after the late 20s-30s

2) Ron Paul is either the most wildly and blindly successful idiot savant in history and by far the luckiest Republican ever on media ire or is protected.

3) someone keeps moving my orange socks.....

well no honestly 3) that George Soros, Armand Hammer, and Leon Hess all 3 made a lot of cash being designated capitalists for communists and have exerted a lot of influence in the Democrat party going back as far as the 30s.

Hammer also supported the GOP in the 60s-80s, Hess cultivated ties with both sides but controlled democrats later in his career, $oros is $oro$ I could post on his games for a year.

The Sauds have bought US Presidents for at least the last 7 cycles....

I work very hard not to look for patterns some are a little too obvious.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at February 05, 2013 05:26 PM (XkWWK)

226 Dr Ron would do well to look at the context of Christ's words. Perhaps he would in less of a hurry to make a Commandment out of what is an observation.

Matthew 26:51-55
And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”

The one who struck with the sword was Peter, as apostle John clarifies. There are conflicting out-of-Scriptures reports about how Peter died. By one account it was crusifixion, another beheading.

So the main point of Christ's words - the betrayal and death must happen in order to fulfill the Scriptures. What of the sword passage then? Is it an absolute? In Christianity, it is understood, that where the lack of clarity exists in a Bible passage, other places in the Bible need to be consulted on full meaning. Does the Bible say anything about it in other places? Well, it turns out Christ said much more on the subject right before the garden scene:

Luke 22:35-37
And He said to them, “When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘And He was numbered with transgressors’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.”

Interesting, isn't it? It turns out He tells them to buy swords [for their self-protection against the coming persecution] and that the Scriptures must be fullfilled, aka His betrayal is not to be interfered with.

P.S.: don't take my word for it. Check yourselves. Each of the four Gospels describe this event with additional details. Read all four to get a full picture.

Paul did not say veterans deserve to be shot by gangbangers.

Right or wrong, his point is the same as it's ever been - that if we had not gone to war, the shooter would not have had PTSD, and we wouldn't have PTSD cases shooting people when they get back home - that these wars have real and unpleasant but predictable consequences.

That's not an endorsement of his sentiment, merely an assessment (that doesn't rely on unhinged lunacy). You may all continue with your regularly scheduled straw burning now. I won't even bother to check if I'm replied to so have at me.

294 #292 "Makes you wonder why he said it."

Well, here are some choices:
1. Makes GOP look like batshit crazy people in the middle of the negotiations regarding sequestration.
2. Keeps Menendez off the front page.
3. Covers up for Biden's numerous gaffes over in Europe.
4. Takes everyone's eyes off the fact that this administration is willing to shoot US citizens without a trial, here or abroad.

Now, which of these looks like something a real Republican would provide distraction for?

305 I was never a soldier, but why would snipers be disliked. Maybe snipers have the personality that you wouldn't want to hang out with them once the war is over, though Kyle seemed cool. But during a war, I would think a sniper would be a soldier's best friend. Posted by: SH at February 05, 2013 05:25 PM (gmeXX)

I read a book about the history of sniping in modern warfare a while ago, and, from what I remember, snipers are passionately hated and despised - by the enemy troops. Your own snipers are great and thank God they're there, but the other side's snipers are rat bastards. In WWII, snipers were frequently summarily executed when caught, not taken prisoner. That was true of both Allies and Axis.
The sniper on your side is your best friend. The enemy sniper is feared and hated - and often shown no mercy when captured.Take that into account, and suddenly Paul's response makes sense. To Ron Paul, an American sniper IS the enemy sniper.
