Overnight Open Thread

So Distrust In Media Hits New High. Not a surprise. It's not like they are actually practicing their trade craft. They are now essentially Democratic Operatives With A Byline pushing false narratives. In a time where embassies are under siege, Americans killed or in harms way, the economy in the gutter the top stories focus on Romney. His taxes. A video. Anything and everything but anything negative about Obama. It's not like there is a dearth of bad Obama stories. Why you have The Democrats False Narrative On The Auto Industry. How about The President Falsely Claiming Fast And Furious Program 'Began Under Bush'? Or what about Obama's Embassy Cover Story Dissolves? But somehow WaPo Declares Romney 'Had The Worst Week'.

Why, pray tell, did Romney have a worse week than President Obama, whose Department of Justice was implicated in the Fast and Furious scandal and coverup, and was linked to far-left Media Matters in targeting conservative commentators; whose Secretary of Health and Human Services was ensnared in a Hatch Act violation; whose Secretary of State was embroiled in controversy about a cover-up over the murder of our ambassador to Libya; who was himself enmeshed in controversy about snubbing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to tweet pictures with pirates and hang with David Letterman; who spent the week bashing a YouTube filmmaker and cutting ads apologizing for the First Amendment to Pakistani Islamists; whose economic news was borderline disastrous?

I could go on and on but it is literally amazing that with all the so-called journalists out there, they all seem to miss out on stories that are essentially what they dream about coming across when they first thought of being a journalist. If a story hurts Democrats, they bury it or deflect attention from it. I bet we wouldn't know who Bob Woodward is today if Nixon had been a Democrat.

You know, for the media types and liberals that went bat-shit crazy over the Bush lied theme, where's the outrage here? It's sad that Univision, not a major network in the traditional sense, is the one that asks questions that got Obama to drift out of his comfort zone. The funny thing is, the questions asked SHOULD have been in his comfort zone. They weren't hard hitting questions. His gaffes in his answers let you know why Obama has been avoiding the press and only showing up for Letterman and Jay-Z and The View. They don't ask hard questions. Pretty sad that the President of the United States fears his own media Democratic Operatives With A Byline.

Some helpful tips provided by Conan O'brien.

Part 2

Another Study

Well duh! The Mere Anticipation Of An Interaction With A Woman Can Impair Men's Cognitive Performance.

Two studies demonstrated that men's (but not women's) cognitive performance declined if they were led to believe that they interacted with a woman via a computer (Study 1) or even if they merely anticipated an interaction with a woman (Study 2). Together, these results suggest that an actual interaction is not a necessary prerequisite for the cognitive impairment effect to occur. Moreover, these effects occur even if men do not get information about the woman's attractiveness.

Troll Insurance

Is this really necessary? Especially at $6.50 a month? Social Media Insurance Starts In The UK.

After a landmark case won by Nicola Brooks, who managed to get Facebook trolls identities legally revealed, it’s become clear that social media isn’t all just posting instagramed photos of your delicious brunch and playing Draw Something with your friends. There can be real defamation of character when the trolls get geared up for war, and UK-based insurance company ALLOW has decided that people need protection.

It is the first “social media insurance” plan to hit the UK. The idea is to protect customers from “reputational damage, account jacking and other forms of ID theft.” The plan will cover the expenses for receiving legal advice and expert support.

Drinking Apps

There really are apps for everything. The 13 Apps You Need On A Wild Night Of Drinking. The find a designated driver app just sounds like trouble. I'd be a bit leery getting into a car with two strangers based on an app. Of course, they could be totally hot twin ladies or something. Hmmm, that could be a doable business enterprise. Hot designated drivers.

Speaking of drinking, any 'ettes want to give this a try? Boxed Wine Fashioned Into A Hand Bag.

Dog Muzzle

Need to muzzle your Vice President dog? Well the Japanese are pushing this supposedly more comfortable muzzle. Behold the Quack Quack Muzzle. Those poor doggies.

Prostitute Scam

The price should've been the first clue. If they looked anything like these Fine Specimens, that would've been another clue. Prostitutes Offering Pensioners Cut Price Door To Door Thrills. If it sounds too good to be true, it often is. Kinda like what Democrats continually propose.

30 Obviously, even San Francisco journalist don't know the capitol of the Maghreb is Bumfuck, Egypt. http://tinyurl.com/984zut3 You want to know why all the Trustafarians went to Marrakesh? It wasn't the hashish or water soluble opium available over the counter. You've hear of the burro shows down in Mexico? That'd just be an amuse-bouche in Marrakesh. And, really, if you had two or three thousand years to settle family issues, would you still be marrying your cousin? Really? Fag writers in 'frisco couldn't resist the bravado, I guess, in the vain hope they were anything but irrelevant at best: but sending Amb. Stevens to a Maghreb embassy was exactly analogous, in the magico-real world of our Choomer-in-chief (and any doubts about SoS Clinton will be answered by her graduation address, man), to the drugs-for-arms aspect of Fast 'n' Furious. And then Egypt gets the blind sheik and 40 blond boys.

41 I should have waited for the ONT instead of going OT on the last thread.

Today was my last run before I have my first official race next Saturday. It's only a 5K, but I'm training for a half marathon, something I started doing in the winter after Andrew died. The first half marathon is on Nov 9th, so I'm about 1.5 months away.

Today I ran 10 miles for the first time (I think ever). It was 2 hours and 18 minutes of continuous running (I didn't stop at any point), and finished at a rate of 13.8 minutes per mile. Most marathons have a pacing requirement (typically 16 min/mile) or they will sweep you off the course. It was a very good time for me, since I'm been hitting 15 min/mile on long runs for the last few months.

I ended up losing 4 pounds on the run. Came home and went right to sleep, but my legs feel surprising good right now. No knee pain at all, which is usually my biggest issue.

(I expect even these choomers stovepipe ops, but it's worth doing anyway. He had a few stashed on the beaches too. Funny shit.

From: http://elections.gmu.edu/early_vote_2012.html

"IOWA is posting their absentee ballot requests on-line and eventually will post the returned ballots -- by party registration. The requests are decidedly in a Democratic direction with 67.2% of the 153,542 ballots requested from registered Democrats. An Iowa Republican political operative "grimaces" at these numbers, but since at least 2004, more Iowa Democrats have voted early than Republicans. The state has a generous number of early votes, so these statistics will be worth watching to see if Iowa indeed has a close election this cycle.
Party Ballot Requests
Dem 103,200 67.2%
Rep 17,282 11.3%
None 32,918 21.4%
Other 142 0.1%
Total 153,542

MAINE reports as of Friday evening 8,624 requested ballots with the following party breakdownarty Ballot Requests
Dem 3,938 47.7%
Rep 1,576 19.1%

Well, if it's any consolation, we all are going through the same roller coaster ride. I take comfort in knowing that we have something worth fighting for. And each day my wife and I remind ourselves of that. Her dad was murdered four years ago next week (main subject of my blog). And we are constantly reminded that life is precious. That knowing what we believe is worth passing on to our kids and grandkids so that they have hope for the future. We are willing to risk our lives and our sacred honor in this struggle. Quite liberating when you put it in those terms. Hang in there!

This is depressing. Combined with Rasmussen reporting both Romney and

From: http://elections.gmu.edu/early_vote_2012.html

"IOWA is posting their absentee ballot requests on-line and
eventually will post the returned ballots -- by party registration. The
requests are decidedly in a Democratic direction with 67.2% of the
153,542 ballots requested from registered Democrats. An Iowa Republican
political operative "grimaces" at these numbers, but since at least
2004, more Iowa Democrats have voted early than Republicans. The state
has a generous number of early votes, so these statistics will be worth
watching to see if Iowa indeed has a close election this cycle.

Party Ballot Requests

Dem 103,200 67.2%

Rep 17,282 11.3%

Iowa always has more democrat absentee voters than republican. For some reason, republicans in that state vote much closer to election day.
As for Thompson, he needs this to get his ass in the game. However, good news for him though that in repub + samples, most of the undecideds and independents will flock to him at this point, same with Romney. Most polls that I have been seeing as wrong as they are, are showing that many REPUBLICANS are still undecided at this point. So nothing to worry about now. If Rasmussen shows Thompson or Romney down below the margin of error, that is when it is time to worry.

The problem is, the only thing saying that are the polls. Obama couldn't even get a 1/4 showing at a Virginia rally today. Mitt has a massive ground game. The ads are now rolling in and will blanket the airways with the superpacs in October so much that people on the sidelines will come to vote TFG out.

Posted by: chemjeff *hic* at September 21, 2012 10:57 PM (d/5qf)

I do not claim to be great at it. It all depends on how your mind works and your note-taking habit.

Storyboards are awesome, if you can draw.

Learn how stories are structured, make a model based on that structure, and modify it for your use. Some people graph out rising and falling action, typically in a basic "M" shape for the rising and falling problem and solution.

If you use visualization software, like flowcharting, that's a good tool.

Mostly I just summarize the main storyline in text, then break it down into sections and summarize those, then start writing scenes separately and begin knitting them together and re-ordering them.

Very short stories may be one "scene" and I just write a few paragraphs of summary and start writing.

There are some good video seminars out there, if you look on YT ignore very short videos and anybody who looks like they're over-selling.

Comparing the early vote requests for Iowa and Maine with the numbers for 2010 and 2008 doesn't look good.

For Iowa, the Dems have 67% of the requests with the GOP having just 11% (less then "other" with 21%). While the Dems had more in 2010 and 2008, the Dems only had 6% advantage in 2010 and 18% advantage in 2008. The comparative numbers for Iowa:

Iowa in 2012 (so far):
Dem 103,200 67.2%
Rep 17,282 11.3%
None 32,918 21.4%
Other 142 0.1%

Iowa in 2010:
Party Percent
Dem 43.7%
Rep 38.0%
Ind 18.2%
Other 0.1%

Iowa in 2008:
Dem 46.9%
Rep 28.9%
No/Oth 24.2%

For Main, the Dems are ahead with requests for 18%. This is more than the totals in either 2010 (3% advantage) or 2008 (13%).

Maine in 2012 (so far):
Party Ballot Requests
Dem 3,938 47.7%
Rep 1,576 19.1%
Green 262 3.2%
Other 2,488 30.1%

Maine in 2010:
Party Percent
Dem 37.7%
Green 2.1%
Rep 34.5%
Ind 25.7%

Maine in 2008:
Dem 41.1%
Rep 27.7%
No/Oth 31.2%

So far, we are doing worse than 2008. While it is still early (and I wish I could get a list of requests over time for 2008 and 2010), this is bad.

This isn't just a question of incorrectly weighted polls, but of cold hard numbers that have come out so far.

This will not end well...

Thus the massive wave of trolls, trying to depress enthusiasm and turnout. It's not an accident, you can answer craigslist ads for the position, it's a well-worn strategy.

What bugs me is the inability of the commentariat to get the fuck past it. You can point and laugh - a little. But if you get bogged down the discussion becomes about what the troll *wants* it to be about, which is their goal - derail the conversation.

First we don't necessarily know who they are actually going to vote for, only the registration of the person requesting the ballot. There are a lot of Democrats who are pissed off at TFG because he's not batshit-insane-libtard-crazy enough and so they are going to vote third party.

Ras is Ras we'll know whether the 47% bullshit destroyed Mitt or not by
Tuesday/Thurs. I tweeted at reince last night and got I think a laugh
from him,

The state polls are more bothersome, in a few cases but still wildly bathsit in a few others.

The ground game is either lying about the # of contacts they've made or the pollsters are gaming their datasets.

"We'll see"

Posted by: Sven10077 at September 21, 2012 11:05 PM (LRFds)

You should see John McLaughlin's quote from Jim Gerahty at NRO about the pollsters. I am far more inclined to believe media ran polls are gamed because they want it like that or are intimidated to make it so. If we all look at the exit polls from all prior elections, these polls are way out of the ballpark wrong, they oversample democrats to their highest yet and undersample republicans to lows they haven't had since the 1970s.
So yeah I'm more inclined to believe the ground game #'s. And the fact that the Republicans and Romney have much larger COH #'s than the Dems/Obama. At this point in 2008 Mccain was way behind Obama and he was over 51% with a nearly 800 million $ warchest. Not happening this time.

Almost unrelated to what happens after the boom button is triggered.

Despite what I popped off earlier, it's far more likely to be the material than the dimensions - the dimensions change when it goes off anyway. Less so in a shotgun than a much higher-pressure rifle.

I would but a few boxes of random brands and try them out, If there's no problem then it was that batch. That's boxes of 25, not boxes of 5, BTW.

Before doing anything drastic, I recommend buying a couple boxes of mainstream light-load (remington, federal, winchester, etc.) and cycle them through your piece. See how they do.

If you are comfortable with using a dial caliper or micrometer and understand shotshell hull geometry, measure the before/after brass characteristics on your problem shells.

It sounds like something is preventing your extractor from doing its job. Since you've experienced no probs with the buck shells and the issue is only with the bird shells (and all the same batch), I'd strongly suspect you got a batch of shells your shotgun doesn't handle well.

Try a better batch of light loads and see what you see.

279 Comparing the early vote requests for Iowa and Maine with the numbers for 2010 and 2008 doesn't look good.

For Iowa, the Dems have 67% of the requests with the GOP having just
11% (less then "other" with 21%). While the Dems had more in 2010 and
2008, the Dems only had 6% advantage in 2010 and 18% advantage in 2008.
The comparative numbers for Iowa:

Iowa in 2012 (so far):

Dem 103,200 67.2%

Rep 17,282 11.3%

None 32,918 21.4%

Other 142 0.1%

Maine in 2012 (so far):

Party Ballot Requests

Dem 3,938 47.7%

Rep 1,576 19.1%

Green 262 3.2%

Other 2,488 30.1%

So far, we are doing worse than 2008. While it is still early (and I
wish I could get a list of requests over time for 2008 and 2010), this
is bad.

This isn't just a question of incorrectly weighted polls, but of cold hard numbers that have come out so far.

This will not end well...

Posted by: The Political Hat at September 21, 2012 11:10 PM (sZTYJ)

Let me show you some cold hard numbers. The Democrats in Iowa in 2010 outnumbered the Republicans in the early voting by nearly 6%, but came in LAST in the general election final turnout numbers at only 31% of the electorate behind the repubs at 35% and the independents at 34%. That final number is way off the absentee #'s since the democrats took 43% of them. You also forget that the Republicans also have 20,000 MORE members than Democrats now than in 2008 where they were behind by more than 100,000 members.
Plus, the Iowa numbers you quoted were from the final tally and these are only FOUR DAYS INTO IT. Don't read too much into these numbers yet. And I am not even going to talk about Maine's numbers as they only have under 10,000 votes in. Seriously, the difference is under 1,500 votes between the two parties. Don't be an Eeyore.

Rasmussen typically does state polls with a 4-4.5% margin of error. They are in the margin of error in both counts and a 2% swing will cause them both to be ahead. With a sample like Rasmussen's, Romney's voters have moved from him back to being undecided again. The independents in the recall and 2010 were voting for the Republicans 10% more than they were for the Democrats. I am not worried yet.

If the Dems were ahead by 6% in early voting but came in 4% behind, then what would the 55% advantage the Dems have now? The number of early votes in 2010 was 350,000, and in 2008 it was a bit less then 500,00. So far, the Dems have already snatched up over 100,000.

Maybe they are shooting their bolt early, but the fact that they are doing so well early on should be ground of worrying about their ground game.

They may not have the messianic thing going for them this year, but they are quite capable of turning in votes (note I didn't say legitimate voters...).

I don't think we are doomed, but like hell I'm going to look at bad numbers and then kick back saying that we got this in the bag. I saw too much of that in 2008...

Merovign: I think so too, and Accuracy Systems is a superior solution ... but not an $88.00 solution.

One issue with "upgrading" firearms is that they lose something ... usually, it's reliability in the sense of resistance to malfunctions when dirty.

Looking at my Mini-14, the only change I'd like to make is remove the clamp at the front of the stock, and open the fore end of the stock up a bit to allow better air cooling, and maybe an aluminum sleeve to help dissipate heat ... but then the rifle is structurally weaker. Perhaps a heavier barrel ... but the existing barrel is fine ... so an $88.00 solution now has some merit.

There is a great forum for mini 14s on perfectunion dot com
I just bought an Ultimak rail for mine and am going to put a scout scope on it, Leupold. It is an extended eye relief scope that sits in front of the receiver.
You can also add a recoil buffer and change the gas bushing so it doesn't throw the casings as far and ruin the brass.
Minis are great guns and are made to chamber 5.56. You can shoot them until the barrell melts off.

Mossberg 590 or Rem 870 Police model. Not the Express.

I mentioned Mossberg because everyone wants to go cheap and get the 500, the 500 and 870 Express are pretty similar, not as good as the other two.

I live in Washington State, the epitomy of lost causes. Cuz when we are ahead my county just manufactures/drudges up enough votes from Puget sound/ graveyards/ illegals to win. Plus, we have all mail in voting and a jungle primary. All you have to do is add three percent to the democrat vote here from the primary and you have your general election numbers. Attorney Gen. Mckenna only got around 46-48% of the primary vote so he is in a VERY steep uphill climb to get enough Democrats to cross over and vote for him for governor over Obamacare voting congressmen Jay Inslee.
So, I have to live vicariously through other people's experiences on election day since I probably won't be getting any good ones locally here.

~375-500 and about 145 bucks of GS work.

It is ambidextrous, simple mechanically, has weather tolerant design that lowers chance of water fouling of magazine. and was good enough for US Army, Navy, and CG. The Mods add cost, but I like a classic and need to have a breaching gun that can be slamfired for crowd pleasing demonstrations in a jam.

Anyone slamfiring more than twice needs head examined BUT it's a good retirement assistance enhancer or party favor.

The violence followed a day of protests by tens of thousands of citizens demanding an end to the armed(salafist) groups.

The website "Box o' Truth" has many gun experiments, and opinions ... and they recommend STRONGLY against a rear pistol grip. If you plan on firing slugs, the reason is obvious, but there's more.

I replaced the wood furniture on my 500 with Hogue overmolded parts. The stock was the shorter "youth/body armor" one. The default barrel is the 18.5" cylinder. The result is still legal, seems small, and handles quite nicely. The stock does not seem in the way at all, and because I still have a stock, the weapon is stable and I don't have to point it down to load it. I have not had to "use" it, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I've plugged my 870 with dirt and snow and dropped it million times. It's the AK of shotguns.

That one may be ok. I CANNOT recommend the top folding version. It developed so much play as to throw the sights off significantly. To make things worse, I really couldn't see any recoil mitigation.

If I had to do it all over again, I would probably buy a 20 ga. 75% of the payload of a 12ga, but with half the recoil.

381 Mixed news out of Nevada.

On the negative side:
* Heller is up only 1% over Berkeley (42% to 41%) with 12% undecided (not good for an incumbent).
* Dems are adding to their voter registration lead massively (over 100,000 in Clark County - home of Las Vegas & 70% of state's voters - alone).
* Rasmussen still has Obama in the lead by 2% (though within MOE)
* The Harry Reid machine is in full force
* The GOP is divided in Nevada. Sane people control Washoe County (home to Reno and 20% of the state's votes), but Ron Paul cultists control the state party and the Clark County party to the point where the Clark County chairwoman openly talked about voting for Obama, hoping Sen. Heller, Rep. Heck, &c. loose this November, and how she is in it only to advance the "Ron Paul agenda."

On the positive side:
* Washoe County is going hardcore for the GOP (due to the aforementioned sane people running the party up there). No Democrat has won statewide without winning Washoe county since Reid barely on with
* In the NV01 special election last year, the GOPer won by ~20% and won Washoe by double digits. He defeated the current Nev. Sec. of State, who had won Washoe less than a year before by a huge margin. The portion of the district in Clark County was won for the first time ever by a GOPer
* The GOP turnout in the primary was huge compared to the Dems, to the point that if the Nov. numbers are comparable, then the GOP will have a near sweep in the state.
* To counter the Ron Paul "Rump Parliament" party, Romney is working with Heller and Heck to set up a shadow organization to get out the vote and organize for Republicans (i.e. Team Nevada).
* Rep. Amodai in NV01 is safe. Rep. Heck in NV03 is leading by double digits. A Recent poll puts the Republican Danny Tarkanian ahead in NV04, which was drawn to be a Dem district. Tarkanian is leading in the rural counties, but also in the Dem heavy urban center of the district (see: http://bit.ly/Un5U8A). This would give R of 3:1 from the current 2:1.

Also, saw Romney at UNLV today. He was working not only with Federal candidates, but legislative candidates as well, making me hopeful that the GOP might do well despite the whining of the Ron Paul people.

383 One older brother...if he actually followed politics he'd be a genuine PaulTard...which has resulted in scrapes with the authorities over the years for drugs and not paying taxes. His two sons are in the express lane to the state pen (oldest one has already spent three years in at the ripe old age of 24). We're holding out hope for his daughter, she seems to have her head screwed on right so far.

Mom was a diehard Dem until Bill got caught moistening his cigars. She's VERY religious, so that snapped her over to R. She's still the epitome of low-information voter and maintains that Carter will go down in history as a great President "because he was such a good Christian man".

Dad claimed to be a Dem until the time that Mom switched over. I strongly suspect that he did that to keep Mom mollified and that he really voted R going back to the late 60's.

Folding stocks (in general): I think they make sense for aircrews, and maybe no one else. Yes, they save space, so maybe they make sense in a patrol car, or a boat ... but the stock needs to be unfolded, and under the stress of fighting ... I'll stick with my fixed stock.

I generally agree with that sentiment. In fact, I'd fully agree to discourage any who are thinking that direction without a specific reason.

However, a quality folding stock requires as much effort to deploy as a safety catch on a 1911, or a select lever on an M16.

It's all about quality equipment and using it enough to make it effortless to deploy.

This is the part that gets me. I don't carry, but ...

I figure a DA snubbie is the thing to carry; Draw, aim and start shooting. Minimum distraction. Autos are superior weapons, ... but which one to carry? They have safeties, and there are different types ...

Same with folding stocks. I feel the need to avoid having to deploy one, then make certain it's ready ... I need to have it Not Fold on the first, or second or third shot.

With a fixed stock these issues do not arise. I chose the Youth stock, which seems to make a very compact system. The Hogue rubber almost welds itself to my hands ... I vote for this.

Might as well parse out my own situation more finely to match --

Parents: refugees from a communist country, no damn way they were going to end up liberals. Mom political tepid, Father a big Nixon-lover.

Me: moderate Republican from embryo, now sliding rightwards under influence of husband and the shitapalooza of current events.

Brother: as mentioned, technocratic socialist. Believes in the Zeitgeist film thingy. Wants Star Treky scientists to produce gobloads of every imaginable thing so no one has to work, no one needs money, everyone just bellies up to the trough. This just the latest fad in a lifetime of entitled rebelliousness and liberalism.

----

Husband: Squishy somewhat-lib for much of life - art school will do that
to ya - until such time as he leased an apartment in what he didn't
realize was a welfare building. Lots of real-life data, such
as finding he was both the only job-holder AND the only one without $100
sneakers in the whole place, gave him a hearty shove rightwards. Now
proudly conservative.

----

Inlaws:
MIL : worked for Nixon's reelection campaign and has the pics with him to prove it. Red until death.

FIL: Not sure, but don't think he could have stayed married to MIL if he wasn't conservative-friendly.

BIL: He works in Hollywood. He has flagrantly lefty friends. If he were in a bell jar I suspect he might have turned out conservative-ish, but he simply can't escape the liberal gravitational field's pull on his brainwaves.

SILs: 2, both liberals.

That's what gets me. Story after story are these chance of a lifetime guaranteed pulitzer stories if they just put out the effort to research and investigate.

The thing is, it not just partisan support. They don't really even work hard on stories that hurt Republicans, either. They just don't put the effort out for any story. There are only a tiny handful of good guys out there doing the job of journalism and a ton of lazy, ignorant hacks who don't understand most of the topics they write about and don't care enough to even learn.

Hey man, your logic is solid. Use what feels comfortable, absolutely. Getting out of the comfort zone is dangerous in combat.

Also, folders are meant to fill a specific requirement. If you don't have that, stay away is my advice.

Lastly, folders are also deployed in a couple ways:

If travel is the problem, you get to where you're going and unfold it under controlled, no sweat conditions.

If concealment is your issue, then you better get bible-familiar with your piece, AND have top-quality equipment in the bag.

Folders ain't great. A good stock is a huge advantage in putting shot on your target. On the other hand, a folder is infinitely better than a hacksaw job, or a pistol grip only solution if you have a travel or concealment problem to solve.

Horses for courses.

You're quite correct. I (and probably 50,000 other guys too) looked into a way to make the standard stock "quick-disconnect" in some way ... I could machine a connector, but it ends up being easier to include the appropriate screwdriver. The alternative is either a folding stock or something that really spins out of control.

My comment about safeties is that autos usually have them, but which one? And which one is being carried right now? Is it the one you think you are carrying? The OTs-38 is the only revolver I am aware of that has a safety, and it isn't a good defensive choice. So revolver = 1 or 2 less variables to sweat.

It's ALL about practice, my friend. You have to KNOW what it is your hand when you draw it. No thinking, no deciding, no questioning.

You have to KNOW.

That requires practice. The more pieces involved, the more practice is requires. And it's not linear. It's exponential. Fucking around with a mixed bag of gear is a disaster waiting to happen. If you have a mixed bag, you better know every piece in it like you know your junk, or you're a dead man walking in the shit.

My very first platoon sergeant taught me that wisdom and I saw it true twice, to my regret.

493 When Romney responded yesterday to BO's "can't change from the Inside" he was on fire. I was yelling at my TV cheering him on. He seemed to be ad libbing too, which is even more effective. He is very articulate and passionate when he wants to be. Why doesn't he have guns blazing every day at every appearance? He has an abundance of riches in the way of ammunition. Even some MSM are asking if the admin. lied about Libya. Romney should be hitting BO relentlessly on that and the entire worldwide foreign policy disaster. The public service announcement by BO in Pakistan trying to reason with terrorists? It's unreal! Romney needs to show outrage. And he should be mad at the media bias. And he should be booking interviews on cable news. Why isn't he doing prime time interviews? I just don't get it. Is this a strategy? I think a big part of the low mood among Romney supporters is not just the media narrative but the candidate's low key profile. Step it up, Mitt. They bring a knife, we bring a gun. Right? We had our fill of the wimpy campaign with McCain.

On a more positive note, did people see the Jay Cost article today analyzing the history of Gallup's presidential polling? Some encouraging tidbits in there.

Poor guy ran to the reactor room and was going to stick his head into the warp drive. Fortunately the mick looey had sealed the doors to engineering, and his singing would have driven off a Klingon invasion fleet.

BTW, Starfleet's accounting dept is still asking a lot of questions about those all phone calls to Orion.

but she just texted me a pic of Molly yesterday and I didn't expect it
would have happened today. But at some point, as I told her yesterday,
it's time for the doggie to not be in pain anymore. Sob.

Sadly, I'm too allergic to have a doggeh of my own, at my own house, so I make up for it by playing with some of the neighbors' doggehs.....then running home and washing up. About a year-and-a-half ago, one neighbor faced the same situation, and I found out about it about a week afterward. Thing is, though, it had only been a week prior that I'd been scruffing Kati up and petting her flat and telling her she was a good dog. If you don't see 'em except in little snapshots, it's tough to tell how they're really doing.

606 Freedom's Flame
Music and lyrics by teej

There's people in office
Been there sometime
All they wanna do
Is own you, yours and mine
FDR, LBJ
And Clinton the screw
That freedom hatin' commie
In there now too

They think they're your betters
Keep that in mind
But no lower scum in life
Are you going to find
Plato's Republic
Is where their heads are at
Forget about it boys
We ain't givin' you that
Your new world order's
Goin' down it's so lame
We're gonna keep alive
Freedom's Flame

Lame stream press
It's your end of time
People wakin' up
And gettin' news online
Rush, Michelle Malkin
Andy Breitbart too
Looking out for others
Like me and you

They're putting it out there for us
Every day
The left doesn't like it
Cause they came to play
Exposing corruption
Make it easy to find
Keep that light on the hill
In the front of your mind
We gotta keep fightin'
For the ones who went before
And kick those commie whores
Out the door

So many kept us free
Giving life, limb and blood
In the desert, in the jungles
Dyin' in the mud
Will we find the courage
In our day and time
To save our Founder's vision
For the ones down the line

We gotta be prepared
And we gotta educate
Help em understand what freedom is
Before it's too late
It ain't about livin'
On the government Dole
All that does is keep ya livin'
Down in a whole
We'll help ya climb out
Your life will never be the same
And we'll together keep alive
Freedom's Flame

612 So the VIA household wakes up yesterday morning to find that we have been blessed by the Lawn Sign Fairy.
Sitting on the front porch was a brand new Romney yard sign, just waiting to be put in the front yard.
As I had been trying to get an answer from the Romney campaign for over two weeks about how to get signs for the area, I consider this to be a good sign.
I know that Baltimore is considered a lost cause for us Conservatives, but if we are willing to fight, at least pretend that there is some national level interest in us.
