Gallup: Unemployment Rate Up
ADP: Unemployment Rate Up
Weekly Jobless Claims: Unemployment Rate Up
Obama's Announcement of Unemployment Rate Tomorrow: Down, I'm Thinking
Update: CNN Mentions The "Invisible" Jobless

Gallup: Up to 8.6%.

ADP: Hiring slowed significantly in April (and wasn't very good in March).

The four-week moving average of initial jobless claims rises to its highest level since December.

And the Obama-controlled Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its April employment figures tomorrow.

Anyone suspect another large number of Americans may be non-personed off the labor rolls entirely, so that Obama can claim that the unemployment rate remained steady or even fell?

CNN Notes the "Invisible" Jobless: With the headline--

The 86 million invisible unemployed

There are far more jobless people in the United States than you might think.

While it's true that the unemployment rate is falling, that doesn't include the millions of nonworking adults who aren't even looking for a job anymore. And hiring isn't strong enough to keep up with population growth.

As a result, the labor force is now at its smallest size since the 1980s when compared to the broader working age population.

This is CNNMoney. We'll see if it percolates over to CNN's broadcast division. I doubt it.

It's like that episode of Star Trek TNG where Dr Crusher slowly becomes the only person left in the universe after she falls into that alternate dimension. Everyone on the ship slowly disappears and no one claims to know all the people Dr Crusher is screaming about. Pretty soon, the whole crew is just her and Capt Picard. And then he disappears because the universe is collapsing.

81 I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery
and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just
did a moment ago.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I
could) tried to explain to her why the Republicans
want the President to fail and increase the number of jobless. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore.

I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't
know what's going on in this country anymore..."
When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and
her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said,
"why are the Republicans doing this to the country?"

Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I
just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it’s too
much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

82 A currently popular way for people to no longer be considered as part of the unemployed is for them to apply for disability. The definition of disability seems to be constantly expanding, and it is quite common for people who are capable of working if they want to to apply for disability. Especially for the phantom "back problems".

I've known a couple of people who've done this. Don't get me wrong, there are people who are genuinely unable to work, but this is becoming a major scam for the lazy.

On one memorable "Judge Judy", she suggested to one woman on disability that if she could "enjoy marital relations", get pregnant, carry the baby to term, and care for a baby, then she could handle a job.

Russia’s most senior military officer said Thursday that Moscow would preemptively strike and destroy U.S.-led NATO missile defense sites in Eastern Europe if talks with Washington about the developing system continue to stall.

“A decision to use destructive force preemptively will be taken if the situation worsens,” Russian Chief of General Staff Nikolai Makarov said at an international missile defense conference in Moscow attended by senior U.S. and NATO officials.

The threat comes as talks about the missile defense system, which the U.S. and its allies insist is aimed at Iranian missiles, appear to have stalled.

Julia first appears in 1984 at the age of 26, an enthusiastic participant in the Two Minutes Hate directed against Emmanuel Goldstein, a Party co-founder who claims the Revolution was betrayed. The poster's handle is CheChe. The text captures everything you need to know about the Angry Left:

I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago. She just couldn't understand why the President would be going to Iraq when so many things are wrong in this country. "Doesn’t Mr. Bush care about us anymore?" she asked pitifully.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why the President seems to be abandoning his country. "Honey, I think his boss, Mr. Rove, sent Mr. Bush out of the country in order to keep himself out of the newspapers. You see, he wasn’t sure if he was going to be arrested today or not, and so he planned Mr. Bush’s trip ahead of time just in case...”

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Honey, I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Daddy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice helped me to get through.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde: It would take a heart of stone not to laugh at the grief of Little CheChe.

258 Nerds.

You were probably just watching Eureka reruns on Netflex the other day and saying "hey, this episode reminds me of that TNG episode with the shrinking universe."

Oh wait...

260 258 -

I never heard of Eureka, and never got into TNG, but I'm assuming this is somewhere along the lines of when my daughter explains something that happened in the show "Supernatural," and I tell her that reminds me of an "X-Files" episode, and she says "yeah, they must have copied it from "Supernatural."

Grrrrr!

262 #249, I said it was BS. But I look for Obama to start using it anyway, or at least get his JournoList minions to start talking it up. "Nothing wrong with the economy that another trillion dollars of borrowed money can't fix...but those mean old Republicans won't let us do it. They want to give more tax breaks to their rich friends."

The really scary thing about this economy under Obama is that they might actually be right -- but that means the only thing that has produced even the anemic growth we have had in the last 4 years was $5 trillion in deficit spending. But it's produced only government jobs and temporary income support for people out of work, which is why it isn't sustainable.

What is going to happen if Romney wins is that we will have a likely rerun of 1981-84 -- another sharp recession that will be the result ofputting the brakes on the government, and, if the politicians have to stomach to stay the course, a rapid recovery and boom in years 3-8 as the private sector throws off the shackles and takes off.

If Obama wins, we'll still have a Republican House controlling the spending, and it will be a long slog of 2% growth until we have another President.

265 4.5% unemployment and the tax revenue is at a generational high with unprecedented economic activity equals the "worst since the great depression" and "a recession".

An average of 9% unemployment, a record low employment participation rate, much lower tax revenues, decreasing economic activities across the board, generational low home prices along with a record high energy prices and economic growth barely measurable equals "recovery" and "improvements", the "new normal" and "funemployment"..

welcome to the "summer of recovery.. part three" this time in 3D..

New unemployment claims 350K 3 months ago. Now they are at 390K. Labor department claims rates have dropped in each of the last six weeks. How does that work exactly?

Only you cons could find joy in bad economic news. Just another symptom of Obama Derangement Syndrome I suppose. The "I hope he fails" (translation: I hope America fails because my guy isn't in the WH) mentality is still going strong.I guarantee that if Romney wins in November, bad economic news posts here will be a thing of the past.Posted by: StanleyJ at May 03, 2012 03:29 PM (kWGHb)

Only you libs could point out the problem being our opinions rather than the economic policies of Obama Co. Worst of all, you act like all the comments from the Left ridiculing the economy when unemployment was less than 5% under Bush never happened. You don't remember that happening? It must have been difficult for you to breathe with your head up your ass for the entire Bush presidency.

Who the fuck cares what we think? You don't, obviously, and what we think has no bearing on the actual performance of the economy, does it? You actually think our words posted on this blog are the problem? But Obama's policies aren't? Unbelievable. You also act like none of us want or need the economy to improve. Apparently us and all of our loved ones are independently wealthy, right, numbnuts?

BTW, your ability to post Wasserman Schultz's favorite talking points are embarrassingly stupid. Seriously, "Massive deregulation which contributed greatly to the recession we're in now"? Why don't you point out the specific deregulation that took place under Bush that wasn't supported by Democrats and that directly contributed to the current economic problems instead of some blanket statement, jackass?
