| Sunday Morning Open ThreadLet the day's open threads commence! I really wish the old guy in the video below the fold was still with us. We need him as much or more now than we did in the 80s, when his ideas were last put in practice to beat back the statists. Oh, and happy earth day. I'll be outside burning tires. Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, April 22, 2012. On this day in 1864 Congress authorized the term "In God We Trust" for U.S. money. The next day a smart alec added "all others pay cash".

State Affirmative Action policies up before the Supreme Court yet again in a case from TX. These policies are plainly unconstitutional and plainly against the civil rights act of 1964 which state emphatically that race, religion, creed, and national origin shall not be used as a basis for ANY government policy. It is time we followed the law.

Something we already knew. Democrat States got most of the stimulus money. And not reported ever is there really wasn't much stimulus there to begin with. The overwhelming bulk of the money went to pet Democrat socialist projects which is why it didn't make one iota of difference.

Posted by: CoolCzech at April 22, 2012 08:10 AM (niZvt) If I killed all the weeds in my front yard I would have nothing but dirt. I put down some weed killer about 5 years ago and it killed my damn grass which had been in good shape. Meanwhile during a drought the county water system which I signed onto and pulled up my deep well raised the rates and included a hefty punishment fee if you used over a certain amount of water. Of course when the drought was over they did not return to the old prices. So my front yard has never recovered. Posted by: Vic at April 22, 2012 08:20 AM (YdQQY) 20

Since Earth Day is in reality a Quasi-Religious Holiday for the Spiritually Deprived (i.e., for Western Christians that have shed their Chrisianity, and are desperate to find something, even an inanimate object like a giant pile of rocks and dirt called a planet, they can worship as a divine parent ("Mother Earth" fits in neatly with Feminism, to boot)... I feel free to bring up a bit of metaphysical commentary.
I'm white enough to buy an occassional CD at Starbucks; this time I bought a lovely collection entitled "Dinner for Two." Good eclectic blend of modern grown up pop (not the kind teens will like, and therefore not well known) and classic pop like Nat King Cole. One song caught my attention: a tune called "Beneath an Orange Sky," by Alexi Murdoch. Pleasant enough tune, expressing trite sentiments about how we should all get along with our swarthy Brothers and Sisters (that, typically for the genre, blithely ignores the fact THEY have no interest in getting along with their Flesh-colored Brothers and Sisters). He sings repeatedly to his Brother and Sister, "In your love lies my salvation... My salvation lies in you love, in your love, in your... Love." And as I'm listening to this, I'm thinking to myself, "Man, if you're actually counting on the love of your Fellow Man for your salvation - on people like the Jihadies, or the Chinese communists, or all the vile murderous scum bound to pop up in the future - then, Baby, You Are Well and Truly DAMNED. Hope in the Goodness of Your Fellow Man - or in a pile of Rocks called Earth - is No Hope at All. Get Thee to a CHURCH, Little Man! We need dracoanian border security and sanctions against employing illegals. I support those. Until we have those, we're tacitly leaving the backdooe open to illegal immigration, because as a society we want their sweet, sweet cheap labor. 2. Even as we want their sweet, sweet cheap labor, we want to keep them in a twilight zone of "illegal status," neither made to go home nor acknowledged as legitimate. 3. Every month that goes by, these illegals are having children with US Citizenship coupled with a grudge about the status their parents are kept in. 4. What No. 4 means is, we have the worst of all worlds: open borders, social discord, and slow motion transgenerational amnesty via anchor babies. Rubio and Perry and Bush each saw this. I do think Rubio's proposal puts the cart before the horse, because we should have strict border security AND sanctions for hiring illegals AND fix the *legal* immigration system before even talking about visas for children of illegals. But I don't reject his proposal out of hand.

80 If we provided a means to check for citizenship and then included harsh sanctions for hiring illegals with jail time for multiple offenses that would stop a LOT. Include laws to preclude welfare for illegals and that would get the rest.
They would all leave voluntarily. That has been proven every time one of the States cracks down. Posted by: Vic at April 22, 2012 09:13 AM (YdQQY) I agree with you up to a point, though I'll say up front that if I grew up in America but then found out my parents from some Central American shithole were illegal... There would be no way in hell I would dutifully go there . Rubio is talking specifically about that situation. Face it: most people aren't as upset with the illegals already here as they are with the idea tens of millions are on their way, and our government doesn't seem to care. I support going after employers... But the fact we're not tells you that as a society, we're unwilling to kick our addiction to illegal labor. When people feel that the borders are truly secure, amnesty won't bother them nearly as much as it does now. Posted by: CoolCzech at April 22, 2012 09:22 AM (niZvt) 95

Posted by: CoolCzech at April 22, 2012 08:58 AM (niZvt) I agree with this, actually, I'm more questioning the timing and optics. Let's see, during the election process, let's pander to people who can't vote and piss off people who can. That will lock up the election! Until we have a fence (it should necessarily be a mix of fences, walls, electronically observed areas, guys walking the line, natural barriers, etc., but I just call the concept a "fence") I don't hold out much hope for stemming the tide of illegals. Obviously hundreds of thousands of unauthorized "visitors" are coming and going every year, with countless tons of contraband in tow. That has to stop. It's unhealthy for our country as well as being unbecoming. If we can't handle our own borders we're not much of a country at all.

Several months later she met and married another guy. She legally should have returned to the PI before 90 days. Two years and a baby later, USCIS deported her and the infant. It took 8 years for her to re-immigrate back to America. I don't feel sorry for her.She knewthat she had to return back home and reenter legally. None of the links mentioned student visa overstays, per se. Just visa overstays in general.
Posted by: toby928© haz connections at April 22, 2012 09:45 AM (NG097) 133
From your third link, Vic:
Last year [2008], 39 million foreigners entered the United States, and using paper logs, DHS has confirmed that 92.5 percent have left the country. Of the remaining 2.9 million foreign visitors, an estimated 200,000 are believed to have intentionally overstayed their visas. So it would seem that ~7% of foreign student visa holders overstay their welcome. That is a problem but it is not an earth shatteringly large problem. Your other statistic states that "nearly half" of illegals are people who overstayed their visas. That doesn't say anything, though, about the proportion of student visa holders who overstay their visas. I suppose we could just get rid of student visas and that would solve half the illegals problem. But IMO that is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It's bad for us, it's unfair to the illegals. It's morally corrosive. America hasn't had a permanent underclass like this since the days of slavery. We need to make it prohibitive to hire illegals: more tham border security, that will stop their inflow. Then, we can debate amnesty. Apart from the southern border, a serious attempt to put a dent in illegal immigration is to deal with both coasts and all airport arrivals. I'm not saying "MegaFence!" but basic law enforcement/crime prevention measures should be used to arrest and quickly deport the ones who make it in. They're here, we know they're guilty. Give them a pro forma hearing to ensure they are not a potentially legit immigrant (political refugee, special skill) and have them on a plane within 72 hours. Instead we have virtual (maybe literal?) Welcome Centers for illegals in every major City in the Northeast. I('s untenable.

Big buisness has always demanded cheap foreign labor and government has always been more than willing to give it to them.
That was what was behind the massive influx of East Europeans in the early 1900s and what is behind the massive influx of illegals now. BB and the government have no interest in stopping the illegals What it does is artificially depress the wages of legal workers. People should be screaming about this but the MFM is keeping most people ill informed. But even at that the last pols I saw said that 70% of the people were dead set against any form of amnesty now. So they try to hide it under different names now and sneak it in. Even as we speak now OVomit is giving amnesty on a wholesale basis, illegally. You can still get TSP at specialty paint stores...I'm just saying.
What's the function of it in paint? TSP is used as a cleaning agent to remove grease and other contaminants from surfaces before painting them. It is not added to paint. Posted by: dri at April 22, 2012 10:08 AM (g28gk) 173
The problems with visas, student or tourist, is that the screening process is impossible, we issue too many long term ones, the lack of any return stick or carrot.
The work visa issues can be solved as you have a responsible party, the sponsoring corp. involved. I think the schools should have to post a hefty return bond. This would encourage them to be more responsible. Posted by: Jean at April 22, 2012 10:09 AM (eLCau) Posted by: laceyunderalls at April 22, 2012 10:11 AM (WNjVG) 175
Visitor visas are not easy to obtain. One must show ties which would compel them to return back AND show finacial ability to have been able to earn enough money for the trip, stay, hotels, Disney, etc.

The problem with Rubio and lets face it, most conservatives when it comes to immigration illegal or legal is that they bought into liberal notion that diversity is something to strive for. Why? One thing most people can't admit is this country isn't great just because of some document or form of government, it's great because of the people that made it and set it's cultural standards. That would be white European descendents. Not blacks or Latinos or Arabs, the more we allow them to multiply the less our country is like the historical U.S., it becoming something foreign and less functional.
That's not even bringing the overall cost of allowing this legal and illegal immigration into the conversation. Posted by: lowandslow at April 22, 2012 10:36 AM (GZitp) 198

When he took office the State had been running a deficit seven years in a row. Four years later, he had 1.3 billion in rainy-day revenues. The State had its first AAA bond rating. Gone are EO's mandating union membership for state employees. And IN is now a right-to-work state. He initiated HSA's for state employees and state spending for these employees dropped by over 10%$. To top it off, public employees are at their lowest numbers since the 1970's. Go get a grip with the 'he can rot in hell next to Wallace' bullshit. You sound completely unglued. Back when most trap-shooters claimed to be practicing for duck season, we always thought our range was superior due to its natural setting, with a thick backdrop of scrub looking a lot like real woods, plus there was little hazard of any overshot contaminating the neighboring field, which we lease to a farmer. Now that trap is Dead Serious, competitors complain that those trees have to go, since they can't get an Olympic-grade line of sight on the birds. I'm torn, I really am. I've sobered up and went back and re-read Ericksons butthurt about how Romney hasn't sucked up to he and his "evangelicals" enough.
Fuck him. Fuck him every which way but loose. Because Romney didn't throw out all the right code words and touchstones in his statement about the death of somebody 85% of Americans couldn't pick out of a line up he decides to go all Mike Huckabee and "I'm not saying it but what I've heard is [attack of the day on Mormons]." Just like that coocoo bananas Stacy McCain ("God told me to support Santorum") who has gone all concern troll--"Look at all the bad things the left is saying about Mormons (which I must repeat and amplify) how can we ever counter that?" * If that piece of shit Erick put up was a post here, it'd be immediately mocked with "Concern troll is very concerned." *A post in which I think he even called out Ace for being too optimistic about Romney winning. Where's the warning that rioters will be put into a condo with bars on the windows?
Residents of State Street Condo Told To Leave Chicago During NATO Summit http://tinyurl.com/7b8ku86 Chicago - Residents of a Chicago condo whose building will be in the eye of the NATO storm are being warned that they should move out for the weekend ... or risk being trapped inside by rioters. FOX Chicago News was first to report Friday that the people living in the 17-floor Library Tower building at 520 South State Street were warned in a letter from condo management that "we are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find places to stay during the conference from May 18 through May 21." A decade ago, she joined a controversial class-action lawsuit alleging
that African-Americans like her were discriminated against by the agency and given less prominent jobs. Typical ... for a suicidal nation. The fact that this bint and everyone who joined that suit weren't immediately thrown out of the Secret Service (and all possibility of future government employment) says everything about America that any of our enemies needs to know. We are pathetic. History books of the future will not be kind to this ridiculous population that inhabits America, right now. One of the worst, dumbest, most cowardly populations of humans to ever walk the planet. We will be a cautionary tale for MILLENIA. You will need to pack a lunch, or even an overnight bag, if you delve into these posts. They are chock-full of material and are absolutely essential reading for anyone who is interested in this case. "We're really surprised or
shocked that anything like this could happen to our family," the girl's uncle, Justin Mastromarino, told the television station.Neighbors told KVOA-TV that they couldn't understand how something like this could happen to the Celis family."They're amazing people. They're very nice very sweet (and) outgoing," neighbor Jerry Pike said." http://tinyurl.com/7l9ddp2 It really worries me, where our culture is going. So the family is a nice family. If the family was a horrible rotten disliked family does that matter? Their little girl is still missing. The intimation would be that they wouldn't look quite so hard for them is they weren't "nice"? Are we getting to the point where we are becoming that much of a judgmental society? The plural of anecdote is not data. Just saying.
In the phrase 'anecdotal data' - 'data' is the key part of the phrase and 'anecdotal' is the modifier, which tells you what type of data you are considering. One of the huge problems of science is the wholesale rejection of anecdotal data; for example early in the history of science people told scientists that rocks fall from the sky. Those people were ignored and ridiculed - after all how could rocks fall from the sky? Of course rocks do fall from the sky - the early scientists were simply wrong. The general populace then made an error when the early scientists were shown to be wrong; they didn't heap back on the scientists all of the ridicule and scorn that the scientists had poured on them - after all, they had been correct in what they were saying, and the scientists had been wrong. Unfortunately - as a result - scientists felt safe in continuing to ridicule people for offering anecdotal evidence to them; and sadly they still feel safe in ridiculing people for doing so today. More recently scientists discounted and ridiculed sailors for telling them that giant waves bigger than 65 feet in height existed in the ocean. Of course when the scientists bothered to check - they found out the sailors were correct - giant waves bigger than 65 feet do exist in the oceans. Scientists ridicule stories that elephants startle at mice. I personally have never seen an elephant startle at a mouse - however I have seen an Indian elephant at the Houston zoo startle at the movement of a squirrel at its feet. From the perspective of an elephant - who has poor eyesight - that startle reaction is understandable; a rodent moving quickly can look like a snake to an elephant. Poisonous snakes are something even an elephant has to be concerned with. Sadly most people won't tell scientists anything that they observe today because of the fear of ridicule - that is a great loss to science. Those people were ignored and ridiculed - after all how could rocks fall from the sky? Of course rocks do fall from the sky - the early scientists were simply wrong. I remember reading somewhere that 100 years ago, many professional meteorologists regarded tornadoes as a myth. These professional scientists were mostly in universities and cities on the East Coast and in Europe. When they heard accounts from illiterate farmers in the Ozarks describing black funnel clouds and trees and cattle flying through the air, they must have sounded like something out of Paul Bunyan stories. I think the first photograph of a tornado was taken in the 1880s, and the next one I know of was from around 1950. They simply weren't well documented back then, except for eyewitness accounts. The nitwits were protesting here in Boise ID over the weekend. Koney 2012. Making a difference by gathering in small groups making signs. The local news of course covered it. What the news won't show you though is the spray paint on the downtown businesses walls adjacent to the sidewalk on 8th street. Koney 2012 then below it a picture of a marijuana leaf. Just more destruction of private property protesting in the name of something. Posted by: Buffalobob at April 22, 2012 01:20 PM (qiFDD) 282

A 'Pagan Religion'
"It is very difficult in France to fight the pieties of climate change, let's put it like that," Anne-Elisabeth Moutet, Paris columnist for the London Telegraph, added. Moutet termed the belief in climate change, "a catechism:" "Yes, it's a piety that they repeat over and over," she said. French philosopher Pascal Bruckner called the belief in climate change "a pagan religion." Sometimes we sense things without really understanding it...Now, for
what, the 25th time in a row, the Obama campaign trots out senior adviser David Axelrod on to MTP to mouth the same stale propaganda. 1 week after the same clown unintentionally endorsed Mitt Romney's economic plan... Now, I understand that the typical campaign strategy is to have your surrogates go out there to make your case, and only use the candidate in rare instances, to "preserve his aura/dignity," etc. But the Obama campaign is obviously using Axelrod BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THEIR CANDIDATE TO AVOID HUMILIATING/HURTING HIMSELF in an interview. Even a lame and slimy spokesman like Ax, who can't go on camera without hurting his candidate, is considered by the campaign to be better than Obama at his best. They will only let the candidate go out there in the friendliest venues, like interviews with the late Mike Wallace, who is now guaranteed not to ask a sharp question. I will predict that Obama will also refuse any debates, unless even his friendliest polls show him down by at least 6 pts...IOW, unless he is a sure loser anyway. Repubs need to understand that Obama is actually the weakest candidate they can hope for, and they need to hit him with consistent jabs, hooks, and then haymakers...Unlike the pathetic McLame, who relied on rope-a-dope, and HE was the dope.
