| Top Headline Comments 4-18-12Happy Wednesday. If you haven't seen it yet (I hadn't), the Agitator compiled the mostly-leftist law-bloggers who say the Zimmerman indictment is a piece of crap. It's not my area of expertise, but these people seem quite confident about the extracrapitudinosity of the charging document. TPM, a leftist site but go with it, has a chart documenting Romney's favorability surge. The same thing will explain Romney's surge against Obama, sure to be documented in the next few national polls. Honestly, it's stupid that Romney's surges are surprising to anyone. Last week Romney was barely supported by a majority---if that---of Republicans, about half of whom spent the past year hating on him. So it should have been no surprise at all that he wasn't carrying away the polls. As his support firms up among Republicans, it's no freakin' wonder that his numbers stack up better against Obama. No. Freakin'. Wonder. Unless you're a fool.Comments1
Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, April 18, 2012. On this day in 1775 Paul Revere made his ride from Boston to Lexington to warn of the British coming. No, he did not shout "the British are coming" or other nonsense like that. Later this ride was made famous by a late 60s rock band who stared on the afternoon TV show "Where The Action Is".
On this day in 1906 a 7.9 earthquake damaged San Francisco including the underground gas lines that fed all the lighting. The resulting fire destroyed much of the city. Posted by: Vic at April 18, 2012 06:54 AM (YdQQY) 2
Shocker of shockers. 9th court upholds AZ voter ID law. Crooked ass Holder and vote fraud Dems hardest hit. The did get this little POS in the ruling to overrule a requirement that voters show proof of citizenship when registering.
That federal law allows voters to fill out a mail-in voter registration card and swear they are citizens under penalty of perjury, but it doesn't require them to show proof as Arizona's law does. http://is.gd/2zGwPQ Posted by: Vic at April 18, 2012 06:54 AM (YdQQY) 3

CT woman want to keep her husband buried in her home yard. CT town says no, not addressed by zoning laws and she should have got a permit. Here's the rub now. These little fascists now have the attitude that if the law doesn't address something it is not permitted. They claim because it is not addressed it is not allowed by zoning restrictions. She is bolstered by the fact that the house was built in the 1700s and it already has people buried in the 8 acre yard. Although the courts have always upheld zoning laws she has a pretty good case since there is no zoning law here and there is a pre-existing and "grandfathered" cemetery there already.

Some may have missed this yesterday. Romney attacks vast left wing media. Some felt it was a bad move. I don't. That was all Noot had going for him in the debates and that is what won him SC. I think it is a good move because it will shore up support with the base. He needs that badly.

They can not stop and search you without probably cause or a warrant. You can refuse to be searched and should. We are rapidly become a nation much like Nazi Germany. "Your papers please".

Of course, lok out for yet another lame duck session from hell. At least this time single votes from traitors like Scott and MooKow will not get shit bills through.

About 150 Afghan schoolgirls were poisoned on Tuesday after drinking contaminated water at a high school in the country's north, officials said, blaming it on conservative radicals opposed to female education. They said they knew the water had been poisoned because a larger tank used to fill the affected water jugs was not contaminated."This is not a natural illness. It's an intentional act to poison schoolgirls," said Haffizullah Safi, head of Takhar's public health department. None of the officials blamed any particular group for the attack.

Hey Gabe, the opening question of the CNN poll was a bit misleading as well.
It stated, "Suppose that the presidential election were being held today and you had to choose between Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's candidate, and Mitt Romney as the Republican Party's candidate. Who would you be more likely to vote for -- Barack Obama, the Democrat, or Mitt Romney, the Republican? (IF UNSURE This is very different than, "If the election were held today, who would you vote for, Obama or Romney." I've been involved in a few survey process over the past year or so, and it's amazing the differences in responses that can be achieved by subtly introducing preferences rather than hard choices. It's a bit annoying these things have to continuously be pointed out to these people, but thankfully they don't make it too hard to demonstrate their ignorance, willful or otherwise. What the left and the MSM doesn't get about these "silly" memes about the "war on stay at home moms" and the Obama eating Fido bit is that conservatives and the con media are using them to effectively neutralize the idiot memes the MSM and Dems are trying to push. War on Women has become a joke and the reputable pollsters are seeing that gender gap close again. Romney's dog mishap is sad but will be long forgotten if enough are reminded at least he didn't eat Seamus. For every stupid distraction the left shits out we are fighting back as a unfied group. Our candidate is fighting back. The Ds have lost control of much of their narrative in just over a week. It really is incredible.

Who is suggesting they should? He made a (very thinly) veiled threat of (at least) armed resistance to the Federal Government. Yes, I want them to take that seriously. I fully suspect, just like they did when Bush was president (and, yes, the SS investigated those, too) they'll determine "freedom of speech" and move on. How many dog owners are in this country? How many had doubts over the Seamus on the roof story? (I did, myself, until Ann Romney discussed the carrier and explained the whole thing.) Obama ate dog when he was a kid. The big deal about this is not that he did so, but rather as an adult he actually wrote about it likeit was a badge of honor. Gabe, I think Ann Romney was the secret weapon that mittens didn't even realize was in his arsenal.
I have a lib/dem friend who is beside himself he wrote us "I warned them, I tried to tell them to raise those boys makes hilaryr look like a walk in the park. The things I tried to sell my own mom growing up was the proof. Ann Romney lived a presser everyday of her life bringing up those boys. Just the fact that they turned into decent men standing there with their parents. They wouldn't listen." I mean ann has made mittens more palatable to me and I've been anti mittens forever. The mistake that libs make is to assume that ann romney passively sat at home. The more she talks, the more you realize the millions came from a team effort and that's something they really didn't mean to bring out. It's almost like hilaryr was charged with letting one cat out of the bag, but instead another more ferocious cat came out. Hey, CAC, since you are hanging out this morning, do you have the model you are using for your projections written down somewhere? I'm curious how you are getting to your conclusions.
Mind you, I'm not questioning the results, I'm just a poll junkie from way back. I fondly remember the fall of 2004 digging into the internals of the polls as they were released. Figuring out which ones were viable and which ones were crap. Had some guy who had worked internal polling for a few campaigns teaching a bunch of us how it is done. If you want a quick shorthand issue to get the attention of the
politically clueless voter, "Obama eats dogs" is a pretty good one. I've met a few people in my life. Many of them were dog people. I'm a dog people. I broke down more over having to put down my dog last year than I did when my Grampa died. (In fairness, Grampa wanted to die, and was 92 years old; he deserved the rest). None of those people would be horrified by the fact that someone (even the President) ate dog as a child. And saying "Obama eats dog" (note the present tense) is dangerously disingenuous. Unfortunately, unlike Democrats (whose entire world-view is based on lies), Republicans don't get to lie. It's unfair, but it's true. And that's a piddly little lie that could, nevertheless, do considerable damage to our standing in the eyes of people who are in that "mushy middle." Initial reactions, validity is beside the point.
--There are some aspects of the multi-cultural divide that can never be understood by civilized societies.-- Hrothgar at April 18, 2012 07:43 AM (i3+c5) Never? Timing is everything. What did Adam understand subsequent to eating the fruit of knowledge between good and evil that he had absolutely no previous idea regarding, despite his God given stewardship of the earth? As for never understanding "civilization"-- the Old Testament God destroyed and manipulated civilizations for choosing corruption. Recall Abraham pleading for the sake of 10 righteous men, not to be found. There's no value system enforced by the Taliban that wasn't law by "divine right" in Europe at one point or another. What's worst, according to Jesus, once unified with the Spirit through baptism by fire is to deny the Spirit. And it can be argued that the original Muslim converts, subsequent to that Mohammed's death, converted from Christianity and Judaism, if ignoring the hordes of tribesmen with no specific religious loyalty prior to assuming Mohammed as prophet. But the burden of judgment turns on the judge that presumes falsely that only the enemy has faults, never the self righteous judge. Lest morons fail to get it, self critique is required of the wise. ..."never be understood"...American women were deprived the national right to vote until 1920. That's my own grandparent's generation; my college graduate grandmother was deprived the vote though she'd been employed, though she married, though she raised a family of children while husbands were sent off to wars with Pershing. It wasn't the Republicans or her day's Democrats who promoted legal standing for women, but the dastardly Progressive Party. Regarding the murder of Afghan young ladies at school, may such crimes cease, may their families find and convict the murderer. And may Afghanistan overcome the tribulations of warfare, and come to enjoy their own peace and tranquility, loving and valuing the gift of life regardless of identity. That same prayer applies to Americans. Our domestic criminally perverted youth conduct such heinous attacks too frequently at their own schools, gunning down everyone as "equal opportunity" victims. Regarding the "Multi-Cultural Divide" -- what would missionary Mitt do? Eventual solution after exhausting the nice guy: slap on more authoritarianism as if "what we need" or want. Do it with a smile and cajoling voice, and if need be, an executive order. "Read My Lips" -- Romney won't be the first "moderate" or Republican to go back on his word once in office. Regarding civil rights and equality under the law, Romney has no word to retract other than his utter support to strengthen the Patriot Act with more abusive (permanent) powers. And Mitt has no mind or guts to counter his tutors, Bush administrative endorsers, the same who instigated the "Karzai" Rules of Engagement among other atrocities at home [autonomous Secretary of the Treasury] and abroad. Obama assassinated his original campaign's foreign finance bundler Gadaffi, who warned Obama to NOT play the supremacist race card. Via Obama, America is raping Libya of all national wealth while enforcing retrograde ignorance upon women whom Gadaffi championed with the highest education and employment. Sure, Malleable Mitt's hope and change looks better than Obama's. But never judge a book by its cover. Posted by: war on women by "conservative" radicals at April 18, 2012 08:48 AM (lpWVn) 134

I was always a dog person (and still love them dearly). Love kittehs now because they're easier to care for and you can actually leave them alone for a night and they won't destroy your house. And contrary to what people here say, they're extremely affectionate and I find them a comfort while our boy is gone.
When our son said he had been served dog in S. Korea I was horrified. He said it would have been rude to turn it down. Sadly, he said there are places where you can "choose your pup" for dinner. Barky could have kept his dog-eating to his damned self. Here is my take on the Ann Romney kerfluffel.
Dems rolled this attack out on purpose. They wanted to hit her as an out of touch housewife who is unqualified to advise anyone on economic matters. Where it went off the rails is they fell into the trap of their own biases. They assumed that the picture they were going to paint of Ann was true. She is clueless and unworldly, because she isn't qualified to leave the house and work in the real world. It never occurred to them that she is actually intelligent, articulate, and sympathetic, having actually chosen to be a stay at home mother. That is something that is nonsensical in their world view, therefor can not enter their planning process. It's a scenario that is impossible, because it doesn't exist. They set a trap, and got caught in it. Posted by: Dave in Fla at April 18, 2012 08:55 AM (FJP6/) 152

Yep. That one, too. I like looking for evidence of children. Bikes outside, swing-set in the back yard, and so forth. It indicates people are comfortable enough to let their children out to play. How is "Obama ate dog" "disingenuous"? "Obama ate dog" (past tense) is not. "Obama eats dog" (present tense) is. And the past tense just isn't something that's going to resonate. It may be useful as a fire-break against Mitt putting his dog on top of his car, but that's about it. If it is, well... fine. Use it that way. But it's not something that deserves a lot of attention. I'm just saying there are things that deserve a lot more attention: like the TSA searching bus passengers in Houston. That's a big thing. That's a great big "Federal Government shoving it's nose where it doesn't belong" thing. Also, the fact that the majority of riders on Grey Hound are minorities should give a lot of ammunition. She also has 2 inch long finger nails which are her pride and joy. You know everything about Bradjelina and Pippa. There are a lot of news stories out there but the TSA searching bus passengers doesn't make it into your info zone (that would be "icky" news). You know all about that mean mean Romney who slung his poor doggy across his hood. Now you hear that Obama ate his. It doesn't matter that it's a stupid story. You are already stupid and low info. That's why there are adult cartoons. Oh, and this chick's vote counts the same as yours.

On the HOA's, they're a pile of shit. Hubby and I purposefully bought in a neighborhood that didn't have one. My mom lives in an HOA neighborhood and had done nothing but talkip how wonderful they were until they denied her request to plant one small tree in her yard after completely ignoring the guy across the street who dug up all of his grass and installed what is supposed to be a rock garden- but it looks like ass- without even consulting the HOA. Everyone's complained about this guy's yard because it really does look terrible but they won't do anything about it. So she's not excited about the HOA right now.

And she's probably voting for Obama anyway. Or (more likely in that specific case) not voting. On the horse thing... Am I the only person who knows that horse was domesticated partly as a food animal? Just like cows were domesticated both as work animals and food animals? Our European cousins were eating horse until the last few centuries, in places, and it wasn't unheard of in America, either. I like horses, I really do- I wish I had land enough (and money enough) to own some. But it doesn't hurt my feelings that they'll be slaughtered any more than Deer or Elk farms bother me. It's an interesting cultural difference. Horses, dogs and cats are an integral part of American culture, and most people recoil at the idea of them being used for food. But Indians (dot, not feather) are repulsed by beef, and that's just nuts! Also...the law of unintended consequences applies here. Horses that are not sent to slaughterhouses may end up abandoned. Posted by: CAC at April 18, 2012 07:27 AM (5UcDQ) I managed to pull off the wedding for around $10k (give or take a few thousand in rounding and how you calculate some costs as "wedding related" or "other" like flying in my sister-in-law) that included my wife's dress. In order to do that however, I first: Had to know a professional baker who made our cake at less than cost ($250 for a 125 person cake with imported Fondant, just tobe clear, I didn't want the imported fodant, but apparently the delicious icing was melting from the heat and said Baker wanted the cake to look pretty so she went to her secret stash of fancy.) Secondly, the wife bought the dress at one of those charity events. Thirdly, find a reception area that's not usually considered (and thus not as popular). I used to work at my alma mater's "external events" department, so I knew they did weddings (in beautiful rooms even, wood inlay from the original 1879 building) and that they were slashing prices to try and undercut everyone. Fourthly, skimp on flowers (Just bouquets and such for the wedding party and some pew bows, no alter flowers or flowered centerpieces at the reception. Plus some other crap. Does not compute. How did you manage to get away with that?
Well, our bride's and groom's cakes were made for free by a lady from church. So we only had to buy the main "wedding cake." We did a period wedding (that is: Renaissance) and our clothes were made by a friend who does costumes for the SCA. My Aunt has a beautiful house with a great room that could double as a cathedral- and sort of did. My mom had (at that time, they've since downsized) a house with a huge room for the reception. Most of the decorations were hand made by us or friends, as were our invitations. It did help that any out-of-state relatives paid their own airfare, except my mother-in-law, who couldn't afford it. There's a slight difference between strapping a dog crate down in the bed of a truck (or hauling a horse trailer), and strapping a dog crate to the top of a car. Denying that doesn't actually help. That said, I think that's an even more over-blown story than "Obama ate dog!!11!!!eleventy!" Sometimes you don't have room for everyone and everything, and you do the best you can. On the Zimmerman charges, I think this is a great object lesson in just how unlimited a prosecutor's power to charge can be. There are no downsides to a prosecutor throwing every possible charge at a defendant. Hell Spitzer was notorious for giving huge press conferences announcing that he's charging Company X with a bazillion counts and then not so much with bothering to tell the press when all those counts got heaved out of court. Insty had a great idea that the state should be on the hook for the proportional share of defense costs for charges that are dismissed and/or dropped. Something should be done because right now there are no downsides, at all, for massive overreach by the prosecution.

#190 On the subject of horses being abandoned, there currently is a problem with abandoned horses in the Hoosier National Forest. Financially-distressed owners apparently cannot find a buyer and cannot afford to keep them, so rather than putting them down they turn them loose in the grassier areas.
It's a darn shame, because a lot of them will die from exposure or hunger, and many will fall victims to predators like the newly sighted cougars which are apparently making a resurgence. AllenG, if present tense bothers you so much, then look at it this way: Obama ate a dog and bragged about it in his book. The operative thing here, really, is that he had no clue that this was something that would repulse a lot of people. It would have jumped out at me if I had been reading the book, but when he was running in 2008 I didn't want to buy it and give him money. I am going to look in the remainder bin and buy it however, to see what other things are in there. You are quite right that this isn't a very important issue. However, every little issue like this takes away a few votes, and so we press on, chipping at his support and his image. Posted by: Miss Marple at April 18, 2012 10:32 AM (GoIUi) 432

@AllenG, Lucky you I suppose. Sadly we had none of that. Catering was the bulk of our cost at about 5600 IIRC. That included an open bar though where they ran out of gin and vodka before we even got there. Oh remember that part about how I used to work for the external events department? Yeah, so I had a cell phone full of higherups who don't like to be bothered on a Saturday night. A few well placed words later and we had an open bar that didn't close after 4 hours like we paid (I finally called it quits after something like 5.5 hours). And to make up for the cheap vodka they bought (we paid for "premium" i.e. Sky, we got popov) and the lack of gin they broke out the 20 year old Scotch from the "VIP event" case. I did complain monday morning, but didn't care to much to follow up (and catering never called me back.) My old friends in the office delivered my (vugler) words to them though. Beautiful room we had, I still wouldn't reccomend it to others based on the idiots in catering. Posted by: tsrblke at April 18, 2012 10:38 AM (SYrwI) 456

Morning, all!
I just wanted to ask: am I the only one who thinks the hooplah around Ted Nugent's comments is completely overblown? "(If Obama's re-elected) I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year." Why is that inflammatory? Nowhere does he say, "I wanna kill the President," which I would find completely inexcusable. Yet the progs and media (BIRM) are treating it like he just bought property on the grassy knoll in Dallas! Who among us HASN'T thought about what's going to happen to us if Obama is re-elected? We joke about being carted off to secret prisons and summary executions because of our rightwing views, ne? Ted Nugent is outspoken and high profile;why shouldn't he expect to be persecuted if the SCOAMT wins in November? There's a reason we call him a "stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable tyrant," after all. Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Hobbit and ABO Supporter at April 18, 2012 11:03 AM (4df7R) 474
"In aNew York magazine
piece titled ‘When Nepotism Goes Wrong’, Joe Coscarelli said: ‘The network wants access to Clinton's eventual tell-all about the Monica Lewinsky years, and the sympathetic character she could become if or when she chooses to open up. ‘But hiring her as a long-term celebrity investment under the thin pretense of broadcast journalism - knowing full well she's not particularly charismatic - and then sniping publicly about the results in the meantime just seems like bad form'"http://tinyurl.com/7agya59 Posted by: dally, who does not enjoy paying so much tax at April 18, 2012 11:04 AM (oZfic) 475
What is this crap with "poor judgement?" I refuse to accept that line of thinking, and furthermore, if you promote it it gives Obama an excuse.
Once again: Mitt had a special crate made for the dog with a wind screen, which ATTACHED to the roof of the car. The dog LIKED it. The dog got diarrhea from eating something, not out of fear. The dog was as safe on top of the car as IN the car, unless you think dogs should wear seat belts. Honest to God, do people want to beat Obama or do they want to prove how they are superior in character and will only play by Marquis of Queensberry rules? I want Obama out. If I can disgust some of his supporters with the "He ate a damn dog" meme then by God I am going to use it. The man is a danger to my grandchildren's future. Nowhere does he say, "I wanna kill the President," which I would
find completely inexcusable. Yet the progs and media (BIRM) are treating it like he just bought property on the grassy knoll in Dallas! ***** He said more than that: "It's good people who bent over and let the enemy in. If the coyote's in your living room pissing on your couch, it's not the coyote's fault. It's your fault for not shooting him." Yes, we know he didn't mean it literally, but he did say it. @160 phoenixgirl....
That's great! Makes this ol' ball coach smile My son was a catcher (me, too). He decided not to play this year (he's a sophomore in high school, now) and it's killing me a little bit, but he hates the head coach and has decided to devote himself to training for football, so my baseball days, like his, are over. I do, however, still have a softball player. Enjoy your youngster while he'll still let you, and take lots and lots of pictures/video. These days, they go by too fast...
