Cringeworthy: CNN's Soledad O'Brien Makes a Fool of Herself While Attacking Breitbart's Joel Pollak

It wasn't pretty.

O'Brien took the position the video of Obama and Derrick Bell wasn't a bombshell, but she did so in a dismissive manner and with a heavy dose of attempted sarcasm. This went well beyond journalistic skepticism; it was advocacy. Or attempted advocacy. Pollak, Breitbart's editor-in-chief, demolished the panel--with the exception Amy Holmes, who wondered why the information didn't surface in 2008. Unlike O'Brien, Pollak remained polite and appropriate the entire time.

47 re #25 Mongoose
Team Obama had enough of a task throwing Jeremiah Wright under the bus in 2008. It would have been inconvenient, to say the least, if Obama's support for Derrick Bell had come to light; Bell and Wright, as "theorists" of the "power structure" (including the role of Jews) are kindred spirits, so it wouldn't do to show that Obama has had an enduring commitment to their kind of worldview. (I.e., Obama would not have been able to get away with saying something like his attendance at Wright's church was strictly as a husbandly favor to Michelle, or some such excuse.)

100 I hope they have better stuff to release, and that this was just the opening salvo to get people back talking about questionable associations the President has had in the past and continues to have. To me this tape was a big nothing, because we already know all this stuff. I get what they are trying to do by steering the narrative into the media's malpractice from four years ago, but I just don't think anyone cares besides us.

I mean if you had a liberal friend who was still in the tank for Obama, is there anything from this release that you think would get them to change their mind? I hope they have some stuff with Obama on tape espousing the ideas of these radicals rather than saying stuff like "you should take his words to heart!" there is still plausible deniability there, "ahem... well he wasn't talking about THOSE words"

You've got to show me a tape of Obama speaking to a room full of radical rabble rousers talking about how we have to destroy capitalism in America.... only then will we really have something.

This other stuff is important too, but so was the Wright stuff... and most people just didn't seem to give two shits.

Because they thought the US was still sane and had some backbone left. In such a nation, Barky would have been put out to pasture long, long ago.

Barky also had friends who wrote papers about how the "natural born citizen" requirement was ridiculous and should be ignored. They all thought that Barky certainly wasn't eligible and would be tossed in a minute. Little did they figure that they'd have such strong allies in the Vichy Right, who defended Barky and stopped any vetting of him as much as the left, if not more.

Pretty simple. Pollack is polite and intelligent the entire time in defending the airing of the video and its relevance.
Against him are four CNN talking heads. Three are assholes. Soledad is scoffing that this even means anything and repeatedly claims Pollack is a liar for his accurate description of Critical Race Theory (An extreme view that our entire system, including MLK's movement, was white supremacist in result). She interrupts anyone who says anything favorable of the airing of the video and later notes she's getting help from a staffer, I guess to feed her talking points. There's some douche who calls himself "a white guy" and offers arguments "as a white guy" in ways that point out that Pollack is a white guy and suggest he's some kind of bigot "afraid of blacks".There is one lady who complains that the media had this material in 2008 and never aired it.Then there is a man who lies about what critical race theory was and scoffs at what's left of Breitbart's organization, calling this irrelevant. The thing is, Rev Wright was an absurd radical, and this just bolsters the fact that Obama also was extremely radical. The MSM is covering for him.

At the time, sure, because Obama was acting as a white slate (so to speak) with little to no scrutiny of his activism, courtesy the MFM, wherein voters projected onto him all the Hopechange as defined by political operatives. Obama now has a record and, curiously, it parallels his beliefs both of which have damaged and continue to damage the country.

Introducing more "trivial" anecdotes which reinforce that which was so studiously censored three years ago by our "impartial" MFM will have an impact. Yes, and left unsaid (by O'Brien)is that critical theory is the basis of critical race theory. Critical Theory is all about tearing down society. Its roots are in Kant and Marx. In Bell's application, it's saying society has racism so ingrained into it that it's impossible to remedy it...you need to utterly destroy society first and then create something new out of the ashes.

White supremacy? Contrary to O'Brien's blithe dismissals, Bell believed white supremacy was baked into the cake of American society. It has everything to do with this radical theory.

164 If this video is a 'big nothing'.....then, why did Barky's friends and

Let's unpack all of that:
(1) Ogletree is a fundamentally dishonest person who thinks that dishonesty in the service of his cause is perfectly acceptable. Does he teach ethics?
(2) He thinks the less that you know about the public statements (this isn't icky private stuff, these are speeches he made that were advertised and in front of crowds) the better.
(3) He thinks that Obama's past is shameful.
(4) Obama ginned up racial animosity to get this guy tenure. What he did was no different than what George Lucas did to get black people to watch his wretched "Red Tails" movie.

There's got to be more too, I just can't think of it.

If you look at all of Barky's policies.....there are elements of Social Justice within them. .....Such as the policy he enacted through Eric Holder in the DOJ, to only prosecute the cases of voter intimidation where the crime was against black people.

As a result of that one.....this election year, there can be 'open season' on white voters at the election polls, and there will no prosecution of it.

Looks like Breitbart oversold and all of his followers bought into it bigtime. I remember seeing the crowd at CPAC cheering when Breitbart said he had this great tape that was finally going to vet Obama. The crowd went nuts. "We're finallly going to take him down!" They were giddy. They just knew this would be the magic bullet to take Obama down. And it completely fizzled. There's no "there" there. Nothing. Breitbart goes out with whimper, not a bang.

174 The sheer genius of this is that (I'm guessing) these tapes - when taken in their entirety - will give squeamish voters "cover" to say, "Well, if I had known about this back in 2008, I wouldn't have voted for the guy", and allow them to vote for the Republican candidate (or not vote at all) in the upcoming election.

And since the MSM wants to "debunk" all of this stuff, it's going to HAVE to be put out there for Obama voters to see.

Have faith - we know how AB operated, and I'm sure that he taught his people how it's done. This was already "on deck", so the whole thing has been orchestrated already - they aren't flying blind.

At first glance, Bell is the sort of figure it would be almost

After all, Obama was the first African-American editor of
The Harvard Law Review, and Bell was the first tenured
African-American professor of law at Harvard University.
On the other hand, Breitbart's point of an un-vetted president is proven:
At no point in 2008 was the American electorate informed that Obama
led a protest on behalf of a law professor who believed that the U.S.
legal system was incontrovertibly racist from its moment of creation,
or that he thought so well of an outspoken public defender of Louis
Farrakhan. (In conjunction with Jeremiah Wright, that factoid would
have further established the pattern.) In fact, in 2008, Obama declared,
"I have been a consistent, before I go any further, a consistent
denunciator of Louis Farrakhan, nobody challenges that."
That should have been challenged.

But, all the classes I took were actual law classes--not bullshit prep for community agitation. Which is where you will find CRT discussed. It's the same shit as institutional racism.

And besides the whole point of CRT is to persuade lefty judges to give blacks lesser sentences, or to dismiss cases against them altogether, in the name of righting past injustice and a refusal to enforce "racist" laws. "It's not his fault for the crime and it's because he's black that he's doing the time." It's the whole "crack carries a harsher sentence than cocaine" bullshit. I mean, come on, it basically claims "We can't identify the racism, we can't point to the parts that are racist but because it was written by white people--it is racist." It's the bullshit that says, "If a black man is convicted of a crime and there wasn't at least X number of blacks on the jury, he's entitled to at least a new trial and probably an acquittal." The Holder Justice Dept. is CRT in action.

Again. Breitbart is simply trying to point out the hypocrisy of the media. They didn't vet Obama but tore Palin a new one.

The reason that Ayers wasn't a big deal is because Obama was allowed to skirt around it by saying he was 'just a guy in my neighborhood.' The media failed miserably. Most people in this country still get their news from the MSM, sad to say, so Breitbart and his staff are pulling back the wool and exposing it.

240 @230

Only the really dumb ones. The smart ones recognized that AB was showing the NAACP whooping it up like they were at RevWright's church when Sherrod spoke of sticking it to whitey.

The smart ones understand what's going on when Lovie Smith says, I'm starting Eugene O'Neill at QB this week because he's black, and all the black guys yell "Hell yeah!!! Right on!! Who gives a shit about ability or right or wrong. This is about skin color!!!"

And then Smith says "I've changed my mind"

232 I still haven't been able to see the video. Is it essentially a CNN ambush wherein Pollack ultimately outnumbered them 1 to 4?

Yeah, basically. Pollack handles himself very well. ....But it's worth watching just to see the young black lady in the panel state that 'the point here is that this is something that was withheld from the American public in 2008' and that 'this is about the media, and how they didn't do their job'.

I am paraphrasing what she said....and sorry, didn't catch her name. But she backed up Pollack and reinforced what this is about.

245 I liked the "lots of law students read Bell" line. Bullshit. I never read him. I knew of it from my awareness of bullshit. But, all the classes I took were actual law classes--not bullshit prep for community agitation. Which is where you will find CRT discussed. It's the same shit as institutional racism.

You would have to take a Race and the Law seminar from a radical to get more than a cursory look at this view. It's something that is known to be prejudiced and evil. Even liberals know better. That said, I've learned about this stuff (as an undergrad taking a philosophy and law class). There's nothing wrong with that, so long as the professor doesn't preach the hatred so much as describes it.

Obama crossed that line.

---

Soledad's interview is one of the worst I've ever seen. She starts with "I want to point out that this is inaccurate" without backing it up (indeed she could not) and insists on not talking about her claim (though Pollack ignores her).

Then she closes by saying she didn't even hear his point that demolished her point, but let's move on. Ridiculous.

If the video had Bell go into a racist rant right after being introduced by Obama, that would be a bombshell, but honestly this is the same as the Ayers and Wright situations, where Obama was able to slink away. With all these connections, we know, beyond a doubt, that Obama is a radical, but the voters who are up for grabs are going to need to the smoking gun.

I mean, for those that already believe that, I'm sure they see it in this episode too. But for those that don't believe that, this certainly isn't going to change their minds. There's nothing there. You desperately want to see it. But there's nothing there. America reacted to this video and the media's reaction to it with a big yawn. Nobody cares, with two exceptions 1) the Right, who hates Obama and the media will jump on anything and pretend it is huge, especially it if comes from Breitbart, Inc., especially now, and 2) the Left who loves seeing the failures of the right, especially the really embarrassing ones like this. And we ridicule you. Tis fun.

So let me get this straight, liberals dimissing this video and ridiculing the Right for acting like it's a bombshell is going to turn moderates and independents towards the Republican Party? Are you serious?
"Well, there was a video with a younger Obama in it which wasn't really about anything, and the conservative guys say it's a big bombshell. And then the liberal guys ridicule them for acting like it was a bombshell when it wasn't. So I'm going to vote Republican!"
Why is that? Because moderates and independents get pissed off when they see someone ridicule someone else? Arent the Left and Right ridiculing each other on an hourly basis? (see, for example, every liberal and conservative website, plus the various cable news networks).

360 My Senior Thesis: Tendentious Prose on Those Far-Right Meanies

it's about 15 pages too long.

Posted by: Ranginess at March 08, 2012 03:30 PM (60GaT)

361 The video is hardly underwhelming, although that's the lames-stream media's argument as they try, for the 5 millionth time to protect B Obama from himself. You have to consider who it is that Obama's promoting here, it speaks volumes.

Imagine, if you will, a professor that the left or everybody argues is virulently racist - say, some anthropologist who ranked different races' intellectual capacities or something. This was big in the 1990s, and these guys have largely been ejected from the academe.

Anyways, imagine if a future republican candidate had not only associated himself with this person, but had promoted publicly, this guy's racist work product, asking people to be open to it. Imagine if this republican candidate went on to associate himself with other well known racists, but then decided to run for higher office, cynically selling himself as a racial healer. Would the press find that relevant to his suitability? Of course, he's a republican and this history is a great big opportunity to label him a racist and inflame wounds and distrust that redounds to the benefit of the democrat party, so you can be the matter would have led every news item until the election.

Imagine, however, that the candidate is not a republican but a democrat, who, quite insidiously, promotes himself as the paragon of racial healing and the promotion of the common interest, not racial grievance hustling as is so common in his party. Would the press find his past history as an advocate for naked racist antagonism and radicalism worthy of airing? would it do so if he was touting himself as a neutral racial healer? Recent history gives us the answer - if he's a democrat, then no - you can't let reality interfere in the desired democrat narrative, so focus instead uncritically joining in on the puffery, and attack those that would question the narrative as racists themselves.

So the video is a scandal, for what is shows about the FRAUDs in the legacy media, their collusion with the democrats, and the utter fraud that is now the POTUS.

Its all the more important for what it explains. Since this racial antagonist managed to get himself elected, despite gross unfitness for office - it explains why so much of his cabinet is populated by bumblers who seemingly always err on the side growing racial antagonisms and intolerance, not healing (viz., "my people" Holder, et al) - he sure looks like he's putting into effect the radical racial agenda of his boss, so, despite the mounting damage, why would Obama fire him ? They look really simpatico.

This video shows what most people now know in their hearts - Obama is the antithesis of a racial healer, he was and remains a radical as much as the rogues gallery of racists he championed, a thoroughly cynical and dishonest man who is happy to deceive the public into voting for healing when his agenda was the very antithesis, wrapped up as yet one more element in his radical socialism, sold as moderation with the help of a corrupt and dying legacy media.

So yes, this video is big news. Keep 'em coming, Breitbart!

372 I think that if we look at the timeline, Breitbart never used the term "bombshell" to apply to this video. He used "vetting." To my recollection ( and I have been paying attention), none of them ever called this a "bombshell."

"Bombshell" was a construct used by the MSM to inflate the hype so that the mild first salvo could be ridiculed and dismissed.

The problem with that tactic is that they tried it before with the ACORN tapes.

It's a fuse, and it's burning now. CNN sees it's burning. Soledad O'Brien lost her fucking mind over it on air today. Jay Thomas pulled the race card as a white guy, and wasn't even subtle about it.

Ranginess sees it's burning, too - because the only way they can win this one is to trash the false "bombshell" meme so completely that the subsequent videos are ignored.

Amy Holmes was dead on right. Ms. O'Brien was dead wrong.

I lost a great deal of respect for Ms. O'Brien and her attempt to whitewash her disagreement as being "I'm right, you're wrong, but lets continue."

Soledad, if you are reading this (doubtful), have you ever wondered if there is a causal connection between your networks plummeting ratings, and depth that you go to shield Mr. Obama from any sort of vetting?

The public has figured it out. They aren't as dumb as you think they are ... well ... the ones who don't watch you aren't that dumb.

Even Ms Prison understood this vetting will be an ongoing and educational experience for the American people.

That's why she wanted to know what's coming up from Breitbart. So, she could prepare for it.

Point by point each reveal will paint a more complete picture of the racialist, anti-American leftard in the White House.

Let me explain it in a way that should appeal to you:

The Bell stuff wasn't a one time wad-blowing in your face but the beginning of a media bukkake.

391 People keep on saying that the country didn't care about Obama's ties with radicals like Ayers. But I don't think that's true. Because of McCain's reluctance to go after it, and the media's spin, most people only knew it as a dirty trick by the Republicans using guilt by association.

Posted by: andrew at March 08, 2012 03:57 PM (5PdYy)

392 The reason this may work is this: My boss who occaisionally listens to talk radio and is a right-wing whacko asked 'Why is Rush bleeping Obama's middle name?' the day AFTER the election. I told him because his middle name is Hussein, and the media has deemed it racist to mention that name. If even someone that knows more than the average American Idol watcher didn't know his middle name, he prolly didn't know about Wright, Ayers, or Rezco because the regular media only mentioned each about once.

Soledad O'Brien is yet another corrupt tool out of Harvard like about 1000 other Harvard-indoctrinated, active, corrupt maggots in the MSM. They are worse than the trash that comes out of Columbia and that is saying a lot.
Today, Limbaugh pointed out the grotesque lies in a story by one Alexandra Petri of the diseased Washington Post. Quick check and sure enough--Harvard educated. Like so many other journo-assasssins in the media.
Harvard is where these utterly corrupt elites make their alliances and learn their tradecraft.

396 #391 Ayers is important, but not because of what he did with the Weather Underground. It will all come out and it is going to be amazing.

Read the story Ace linkedat the end ofthe post about the Rochester professor. It's about kids in Kansas City public schools being taught the vilest racialist trash which is leading to actual assaults of white children by black children.

This is curriculum that was actually written and distributed to public schools around the country. By the Woods Foundation. And it was written by Bill Ayers. It is an outgrowth of Critical Race Theory.

Connect the dots.

Obviously this is not going to happen, but that would be cool.

427 "So we're talking about whether this kind of thing will persuade people in the middle"

So 4 years ago, media matters had a hissy fit that the media didn't spotlight:
http://tinyurl.com/mediamattersmccain

"Pastor John Hagee -- who has made controversial comments about
homosexuality, Islam, Catholicism, and women -- endorsed Sen. John
McCain, who embraced Hagee's support. Hagee's endorsement and McCain's
response to it raise the question of whether MSNBC will report on them
as extensively as it did on Farrakhan's praise"

Hagee was some clown that endorsed McCain. Did McCain warmly embrace Hagee or have a personal relationship with him? No

But apparently David Brock (http://tinyurl.com/brockNfrank) thought this casual connection was so horrid it should be a big deal. Oh, and what does Breitbart.com have linking Obama and Farrakhan hehe!

It's hilarious to see a rapid liberal think it's no big deal because to him it isn't. To the independents, the casual observers, it is a big deal. 464 "Oh, and it looks like Jay Thomas has some pertinent knowledge for this job, too... he has a Masters in Sociology"

Yes we could see his brilliance on display like: Talking white guy to white guy. Is that from 101 or at the Bachelor's level?

466 #464: Oh, I'm thinking that's a touch beyond Master's. That's flirting with maybe going for the PhD, baby!

467 Soledad O'Brien is just a stupid, rude bitch. CNN should fire her and hire Daffy Duck in her place. This would improve the level of journalism on CNN by 100%.

468 uh yeah, we know she made a fool of herself, she knows she made a fool of herself, but guess what? the general public doesn't and never will. too them, what's his name from brietbart, who didn't bother to point out that he had a law degree from harvard, and clearly had the academic credentials to discuss a legal theory, just looked like a moron. i don't think she ended up looking bad at all. i think HE did. the public doesn't know anything about him, and the public never will, if the lack of response from the RIGHT is anything to judge by. all i have to say to the guy over at breitbart is this: grow a set and fight back. don't pull this frat-boy b.s. about being "the better person" b.s.. the truth needs an advocate, so scream it, yell it, but by all means GET IT OUT THERE! don't just sit there being a flipping harvard law school graduate and let some news reporter lecture you on what is commonly taught to law students. SAY SOMETHING! HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

469 pollock...i guess that is his name...well, if he's replacing andrew as spokesperson for bretibart.com i'd say it's a big epic flunk! he's a pussy! never once, not once did pollack point out that he WENT TO LAW school...that he hadn't better insight into what was taught at law school THEN SHE DID...NOT ONCE! he should have nailed her with that, and he shouldn't have tried to pull this frat boy politeness crap... he should have told her that she was insulting, pointed out that he had the credentials to speak on such matters with authority, and he should have very pointedly ask her where SHE went to school...or something...just something to FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...my god...wtf? this is it? this is the best they can do? wow...that's all i have to say is...wow...and boy are we in for getting our asses handed to us in november...we need some tough bastards to step into andrew's shoes fast...or we are done...

andrew...i miss you already...god i wish you were here...we've lost an important general in the middle of a big. ugly, bloody battle...and your loss could very well mean that we will lose the war...
