Obama promises unilateral action.
President Obama doesn't seem to realize he's the president of the entire country, not just one party. He has never been a uniter. On the contrary, he is divisive both on a petty personal level and on a large scale though his politics. He has never been a leader of the entire country. He has never been a bi-partisan legislator. He doesn't make things better; he makes things worse. He thinks this is his path to reelection. Executive fiat is for wimps. It's obvious he dreams of ruling by decree. What a creepy guy. I have worked for a tax agency before and they drilled into us HARD what the rules are and why those rules are in place, specifically mentioning Nixon's use of the IRS in the 70s as why laws on that information were strengthened so much.

You've never seen anything so entirely dependent on skin as a university hiring committee. Also, to have been Precedent of the Harvard Lawn Review should be pretty much a guaranteed tenured position (normally) ... though the other presidents of the Lawn Review tended to have actually written lots of scholarly pieces and participated in the public legal debates. Barky, not so much. He's not really literate. He can write, but only at the 8th grade level and not about anything that actually takes a brain.

Good to know. I was thinking more of in terms of pecking order / status, not quality or effectiveness. At my tiny state school, full-time profs taught all their own classes, no grad students, no drop-in academic celebs, no classes larger than about 35 students.

I've only ever heard of one or two of his "students" (as if Barky could teach anything to anyone) talk about how he was a cool teacher, or something to that effect. I never heard anything about what he actually claimed to have taught (though I would assume the course schedules for the time must be available).
Clearly, Barky doesn't know anything well enough to teach. Of that, there is no doubt. We've heard too much out of the idiot's mouth to think that he is anything but a pea-brain who hates America.

David Cross Admits to Snorting Cocaine at the White House

The actor confessed to the persistent rumor in an interview in the March issue of Playboy magazine, saying he pulled the stunt while sitting some 65 feet away from President Obama.
"It wasn’t even that much cocaine. It was literally the size of, I don’t know, a tick. It was a tiny granule of coke that I put on my wrist and said, 'Watch this. I need a witness,'" Cross recalled.

What Mr. Cross doesn't realize is if Obama had known he had coke on him, he'd have asked for a hit.
My favorite part of that story? Cross is disappointed in himself because he got his fiancee, Amber Tamblyn (of Joan of Arcadia, among other things), more or less blacklisted from the White House guest list because of his behavior. This of course leads me to several questions:
1) Why was Amber Tamblyn even invited to the White House?
2) Why would Amber Tamblyn ever have reason to believe she'd be invited again?
3) Why would Amber Tamblyn feel the need to marry a self-absorbed coke sniffer?
4) Why wouldn't David Cross have offered some coke to the Prez, who's also done cocaine? That was just impolite if you ask me. I mean, if you're going to disrespect the Presidency anyway and snort cocaine at a White House function, you ought to offer your host a line, too.

I could be wrong, but my understanding of Nixon's sins vis-a-vis the IRS, etc. were fairly common practice under JFK and LBJ although I guess less blatant or, at least, less well-exposed. As we've seen, wholesale 19th-century-style corruption isn't a big deal as long as a Democrat does it.
Here's the interesting thing to me, though. We have this whole dustup with contraception mandates and Santorum -- a devout Catholic and not shy with his desire to implement such beliefs into policy -- stands a small chance of being president. Very small, but there it is.
And the liberals are not the least bit afraid that conservatives will use the same Obamacare mandate power that they use to force us all to pay for contraceptives to ban contraceptives.
Shouldn't they be afraid of that?

It's not like they didn't know when Passover was, and Easter (being the celebration of Christ's resurrection) should fall on the Sunday after Passover, I'd think. Well, except for the little bit where Jesus was in Jerusalem for Passover when he was tried (such as his "trials" were) and handed over to the Jews to be crucified. Other than that, no relation at all.
I'm simply talking about the placement of the date. We know the Jewish calendar. We know that Christ's resurrection was on the Sunday after the Passover festival. So why not hook the celebration of the Holy day to the actual Holy day?

The Hebrew calendar is based on lunar months/cycles. Nisan does not fall on the same days in the Gregorian calendar, it floats between March and April.

Nope. The Greeks use theJulian calendar not the Gregorian and not the Hebrew. The Church calculated how many moons after the new year the original passover occured and then scheduled Easter on the first Sunday (because the original resurrection was on Sunday). When the Church used theJulian calendar they did the same thing and then when it adopted theGregorian calendar it stuck to it. What you're really asking is why the Church adopted the Roman calendar instead of sticking with the hebrew calendar? Because it was more universal at the time is the answer. We still use the jewish ordering of the nativity and that Pentecost is 50 days after Passover. Complicated.

This is why we cannot nominate Santorum. I speak with nearly80 to 90middle to upper middle class to upper class women weekly. My "customers" generally have combined incomes > 90K. Once they gain trust in my abilities, they share all kinds of personal information with me. Do you know that a very large percentage of women (about 35 to 50%, I'd say) who identify as Catholic would encourage their teenage princesses to have abortions? They don't want any kind of helpless, human life interfering with little their little Muffy's freshman year at Clown State or Harvard (not that there's much of a difference between the two other than how "elite" your fellow alumni are....) And everybody but everybody is on the pill and insures that Muffy is on the pill. (Which leads me to conclude that little Muffy is pretty damn stupid. Can't even manage to swallow a birf control pill every day....)
The point of this drivel is that if the Republicans nominate Santorum, the white, women suburban vote will be lopsided in favor of Obama. And one of the absolute, objective truths of this fine blog is that OBAMA IS A SCOAMF. Much of Tanachit Judaism (from the Torah) revolved around the Temple. All of the animal sacrifices and the like were directly connected to the Temple. When that disappeared so did many many of the Jewish mitzvot which depended on the Temple. Judaism had to go through a radical change and that is how we got rid of the priest class and moved into rabbinical Judaism, which was much more portable (a good thing as Jews were not to find themselves even within earshot of the land the Temple even stood on for another 2000 years).
Most Jews have no desire to have the Temple rebuilt, since then some Jews will start trying to perform some of the old mitvot at the Temple ... which just wouldn't fly, really. Others, like the Satmars, want the Temple rebuilt, but not by anyone who isn't sufficiently pure for the task (as with the old story of David and Solomon) and not until the actual Jewish nation of Israel (not the secular state of today) is re-established. That's why some of these groups of Jews are anti-Israel, like the nutcases who were visiting Achmadinejad in Iran.

Anyone you meet named Cohen or Cohn or the like is a descendant of Aaron and the priest class. Another interesting tidbit, Cohanim are not allowed to touch corpses. They are required for certain special calls to read the Torah at service. Cohanim are not allowed on the Temple Mount (to visit the Dome of the Rock) since that is where the Temple was and the Cohan might accidently step in the Holy of Holies which is a very serious no-no.

Don't have my Bible with me, so I can't look up the specific reference (though the way the Christian Bible breaks up the Torah is probably somewhat different from how the Jews separate it anyway) but I do know the Law goes on a long way about the requirements for Sacrifices- especially the yearly sacrifice of Atonement (a festival, too, if I'm recalling properly).
Jews (Christians, for that matter) believe this Law was handed down to Aaron through Moses for the Jews for all time. How- theologically- do you address the issue of not being able to make those sacrifices? That is, theologically speaking- is every Jew since the razing of the Temple (and subsequent loss of the Ark) condemned? If not- why not?
And, if the question makes anyone upset: CBD gave me permission to ask, and I really am interested in the answer. I've wanted to know for quite some time, frankly.

Jews are not condemned because the Temple sacrifices aren't possible. There is a lot of practicality in Judaism (since it was built as religious-political system, the Jewish nation was indeed, the first abstract nation with citizenship based on common values and world view) and people are not held responsible for not doing that which cannot be done.
On top of that, the ark is lost, so there is nothing to put in the Temple, now, even if it was rebuilt. The Temple was really built to just house the ark and give G-d a place on Earth.

As really... pointed out above; after the destruction of the second temple by the Romans in 70 CE, and the dispersal of most of Judaism throughout the known world, Jews had to radically modify our religion -- from one that was centered on a priest class and a temple -- to one that was more focused on the community's knowledge of the rituals remaining to non-priests, and those that could be performed without sacrifice or the existence of the temple.
In fact, some prayers specifically discuss the return to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the temple, but not to point out some sort of limbo, but rather as something to be hoped for. There is no condemnation of any Jew for any lack of ritual. Any transgressions against God are forgiven each year during Yom Kippur, when God forgives all of our transgressions against him automatically. It is the transgressions against others for which we have to ask forgiveness.
Some of the more fundamentalist groups among the Hasidim have called for the resumption of Pascal sacrifices on the temple mount. They babble about the punishment of Kereth (Kareth?) for all who do not sacrifice. But they are incorrect -- that punishment is for transgressions that are purposeful and for which one is unrepentant.
Clearly, 99.9% of Jews cannot satisfy every requirement of the laws (and the 0.1% are liars), and God understands that.
And next time try to ask a question that is even remotely offensive. This was just interesting.

By stringing his proclamations out in order to extract maximal political benefit, he is forcing us to wait, and "we can't wait"!
Time for the RNC to ridicule this cynical political stunt with a commercial of Obama repeatedly saying "we can't wait" from each of his proclamations along with a time stamp demonstrating that Obama is keeping us all waiting in a cynical, political marketing ploy.
