Finally! Media Gets Around To Vetting Obama And Finds His College Transcripts

Suckers! The media is never going to vet Obama. They are however running Rick Perry's transcripts which were apparently leaked to the Huffington Post.

It seems he wasn't such a hot student. (Obviously a HufPo link)

The Huffington Post was passed Perry's transcripts from his years at Texas A&M University by a source in Texas. The future politician did not distinguish himself so much in the classroom. While he later became a student leader, he had to get out of academic probation to do so. He rarely earned anything above a C in his courses -- earning a C in U.S. History, a D in Shakespeare, and a D in the principles of economics. Perry got a C in gym.

Perry scored poorly on the basics within his animal science major. In fall semester 1970, he received a D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding. He did get an A in world military systems and “Improv. of Learning” -- his only two As while at A&M.

"A&M wasn't exactly Harvard on the Brazos River," recalled a Perry classmate in an interview with The Huffington Post. "This was not the brightest guy around. We always kind of laughed. He was always kind of a joke."

Let me sum up my reaction to this...I don't give a damn. I honestly don't care about Obama's college transcripts and I don't think it would be very fertile ground to attack him. Of course, Obama's transcripts would be of some value simply because he was presented as the cerebral candidate that would use his supernatural intellect to solve America's problem. Let's see how much basis there was for those claims.

Personally, Obama could have been a straight A student who never missed a day of school since kindergarten (I doubt he was anything like that in college) and he'd still be a miserable failure as President. I'll take a D student (hell, a high school drop out) with a track record of creating a business and job friendly political and regulatory environment over the "smartest" leftist any day.

Credit where it's due: Via Dave Weigel who asks, "Cool. Where's Obama's". I'm sure they'll get right on that Dave, right on it.

BTW- I'm sure all the liberals who want to destroy Fox News over the UK hacking scandal at other News Corp properties will demand, DEMAND! an investigation into how these transcripts came to be public and if appropriate see the offender prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

69 Texas AM, like all Texas state universities, has to accept quite a large percentage of students from within the state. However, unlike private universities, they actively cull out students. IIRC, less than 50% of those admitted to Texas public universities make it through all four years to graduate, wheras in private universities, the vast majority are encouraged to stay in school (and keep making those tuition payments).

Obama's college grades were relevant because he had a resume that didn't take the whole of one side of paper.

Perry on the other hand has had a demonstrated history of executive office, successful under adverse nationwide conditions.

Ask anyone who interviews for job placement. Actual performance and experience in the same or similar position means 100 times more than grades. But if they don't have the experience because they are young and entering the work force, than grades are part of your relevant evaluation.

74 The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. §
1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of
student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive
funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

FERPA training was taken very seriously at my old university. You were not allowed to access records without a reason and even then only certain people had access to them. Only "directory" information was allowed to be released without permission from the student.

I would hope that Texas officials would demand an immediate investigation of who accessed and released Perry's records. The fact that they're state employees will make it easier to get to the truth and punish them.

104 Obviously there's already been internal (not for public consumption) polling of a potential Perry-Obama general election contest and the media/Democrat complexis very, very afraid of a Perry candidacy.
In fact, given that they've decided to leak this trash item so far in advance of next year's election -- hell, before Perry even has declared his candidacy -- it suggests that Perry not only is ahead of Obama but that it's not even close. The fact they've also started leaking the "opposition research file" on Perry buttresses that conclusion.
This has all the earmarks of a Democrat/media attempt at candidate preemption. Simply put they're deathly afraid of Perry being the nominee and they know they can'twait until right before the Nov. general to dump all their dirt on him; by then it'll be far too late to save their man.
Look for a lot more Perry bashing in advance of the Iowa and New Hampshirenominating contests.

The MFM wants to equate that "lack of intellect" and general simple doofus image to Perry. Because the American's don't want to be represented by someone who comes across as a simpleton.

And I care to know if someone is genuinely stupid; they shouldn't be in charge of anything important. Meanwhile, the suck ups of the universe, the liberal "elite," are per se brilliant. Bull. Shit. I went toan Ivy. Bank of New York Mellon Corp. on Thursday took the extraordinary step of telling large clients it will charge them to hold cash.
Bank of New York Mellon is preparing to charge some large depositors to hold their cash, in the latest sign of the worries roiling global markets. Liz Rappaport has details.
The unusual move means some U.S. depositors will have to pay to keep big chunks of money in a bank, marking a stark new phase of the long-running global financial crisis.
The shift is also emblematic of the strains plaguing the U.S. economy. Fearful corporations and investors have been socking away cash in their bank accounts rather than put it into even the safest investments.
The giant bank, which specializes in handling funds for financial institutions and corporations, will begin assessing a fee next week on customers that have been flooding the bank with dollars, Bank of New York told clients in a note reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
The decision won’t affect individual savers, who already are stuck with near zero interest rates as the Federal Reserve keeps rates low to support a soft economy. But it is a glaring sign that corporate executives, bank leaders and money-market fund managers are fleeing from risk and hoarding cash as the recovery threatens to peter out.
Gadzooks !! Banks make you pay to hold your cash. It is bad.

162 You should do more research on Texas' government structure before crediting Perry with "creating a business and job friendly political and regulatory environment'.
The Governor's powersin Texasare unlike most other governors in the US and Perry has to share his power with a series of elected officials, commissionsand boards. One of those boards in the Railroad Commission, which regulates oil and gas, trucking, mining and, yes, railroads. There's also a Commissioner of Agriculture, which has regulatory power over agriculture (Texas is the 2nd largest agriculture producer). The Comptroller has financial power and, among other things, has to certify that the budget is balanced. All these people are directly elected. In short, Perry has significantly less executive power than most other governors--and that says nothing about the fact that it's the legislature, not the Governor, who writes the laws.

To avoid being mistaken for a sellout,I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night,in the dorms,we discussed neocolonialism,Franz Fanon,Eurocentrism, and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake,we were resisting bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated.
This is the sort of president we need. Someone who judges strictly by appearances. Someone who sticks it to the Man by vandalizing property. Someone who views his comfort and rudeness as resistance to the boureiosie.
I imagine Obama's grades are actually going to be pretty good when they come out. What will be more interesting is the classes he took. If his little autobiographical preening above is indicative, there will be some doozies in there.

In the early 1990s, Texas AM was in the 26-50 ranking tier of US colleges. U of T was at the bottom of the top 25. I can't find rankings earlier than that. My guess (which I can't substantiate) is that Texas AM's rank, like Notre Dame's and a few other schools', improved quite a bit since the late 60s and early 70s when Perry was there.

Regarding the entertainment industry twits, have you ever watched Celebrity Jeopardy? I haven't watched it recently, but in the old days, they dumbed down the questions to a point where it was laughable, and they still made fools of themselves. You wouldn't believe the easy questions that they got wrong.

The 10 year olds that they have had on were more impressive. Wolf Blitzer did poorly, so you can imagine what happens with actors. Then they switched to categories they would know, like academy award winning movies.

It's no coincidence that SNL satirized it. They weren't far off from reality. Interestingly, Cheech Marin did well. My suspicion is that he relaxed with a joint before going on.

Let's give it the wallet test:
Who would you let hold your wallet:
An affirmative action grifter who is a true believer in the redistribution of wealth and all the theories he learned at Harvahd that support that world view?

OR

A guy who grew up stepping in chickenshit (wasn't rich enough to step in cowshit)to help his parent's farm who learned enough to graduate from Texas AM and was a part of the Corps of Cadets when it was a truly military college?

260 Interesting. My daughter attends AM. The science and math classes will kick your butt AND because her GPA wasn't a 3.0 she wasn't allowed to transfer into her preferred major...Animal Science. So, unless the requirements have changed, someone may not have gotten the correct information. AM does not allow indefinite probation (below a 2.0)...I'd verify the source.

Let's look at a different comparison:
Perry did crappy in Economics Class in a second rate college (according to the elites, I think Texas AM is the best in Texas, and better thanHarvahd, Yale or Princeton on teaching what is true), does better than anybody else in his work to improvehis state's economy.
Obama, called the most intelligent President ever, so the assumption is that he had the maximum scores at Occidental, Columbia and Harvahd, did outstanding inhis elite university economicsclasses, has made the country's economy the worst since the depression and is still digging.
This is more an indictment of the elite's educational regime than Perry's education.

He has excelled as the chief executive of Texas, which is pretty much second to none in jobs and other important economic factors.

Jim, you are technically correct in the limited powers of the Texas governor. In truth, the Lt Gov has far more power.

That being said, I'd like to make two quick points:

1) It is well known around Austin and in Texas politics in general, that Perry routinely circumvents (not in an illegal way) those limitations. Taking the initiative and stepping on toes to get what he wants done, done.

2) Perry served as Lt Gov when Bush was Gov, and therefore, given that the Lt Gov has more power, Perry must be credited with the policies that were enacted during those years, yes?

295 Q: What do you call an Aggie five years after graduation?
A: Boss.
--
When I got out of college, most of the big oil companies in Texas only interviewed grads from a few colleges, one of which was AM.
Also, most Aggies would take the "no Harvard" comment as a tremendous compliment. To wit, another story I heard when I lived in Texas:
An Aggie went up to Harvard, but since he was unfamiliar with the campus, he couldn't find the library. He saw a couple of other students, so he went up to them and said, "Excuse me, can you tell me where the library is at?" They just looked at him and with a small laugh, one of them said, "My good man, at Harvard, we don't end our sentences with prepositions." The Aggie replied, "Okay then. Can you tell me where the library is at, ASSHOLE?"

The Governor's powers in Texas are unlike most other governors in the US and Perry has to share his power with a series of elected officials, commissions and boards....In short, Perry has significantly less executive power than most other governors--and that says nothing about the fact that it's the legislature, not the Governor, who writes the laws. Posted by: Jim at August 05, 2011 01:02 PM (YwDKF)

Funny, that - as I recall, the President is ALSO required to "share his power with a series of elected officials".
And the last time I checked, the United States CONGRESS (aka "The Legislature") writes the laws, not the President.....

You mean the Railroad Commission?

You don't think they are independent of the legislature, do you? Where do you think regulations come from?

The Lt Gov derives most his power from the fact that he selects who sits on what committee and which bills actually make to the congressional floor.

Also, the Gov appoints commissioners to the RR Commission to fill out unexpired terms when needed.

The Texas government is a multi-headed entity. The Gov is the leader of that entity. Any man who can take on a hydra and push through beneficial policies has done a good job, IMO.

One also has to wonder how this "journalist" claims to have come by these grades in the first place.
There were NO computers holding all of this data back in the 70's. EVERY transcript from anyone who attended Texas AM prior to the mid-80's was hand-entered into a central database, and the older the transcript, the sloppier the transfer.
How do I know this?
Because when I needed to get my Aggie ring replaced, I had to request one from the school - you CANNOT get an Aggie ring unless you meet the qualifications for one, and they sure as heck aren't going to give one to someone who claims to be a former student.
They told me I didn't have enough credit hours to qualify for one. They said my "records" showed that I hadn't entered until the Spring of 1979 (I registered in Fall, 197.
It turns out that my entire first semester was never keyed in to the computer system; fortunately for me, they had the paper records on file, and they eventually squared everything away.
Mr. Perry's records may not even be ON a computer database is all I'm saying....

Bears repeating, and it's exactly what i was going to say, as a member of the class of '79. Obama was sent to prep school. Paint Creek High ain't no prep school. Paint Creek was literally not even on the Texas map at the time.Perry's house had no plumbing when he was little, and his parents were trying to farm during the worst drought on record in TX.
--If you're giving the Texas Senate and House credit, the House had a majority of Dems until sometime in the mid 1990s and the Senate had a majority of Dems until 2001.

"Weak Governor Myth" de-bunked by Texas Monthly:

Texas is not a “weak governor” state. A common misconception.
It used to be true, but during his historic governorship, Perry has
reinvented the office as a power center. This may be his greatest
accomplishment. Yes, our state constitution, written the year before
Reconstruction ended, created a weak governor’s office (as did most
constitutions of the states of the former Confederacy). We had two-year
terms (the Legislature changed it to four-year terms beginning with the
1974 election) and a fragmented executive department with power divided
among the governor, the lieutenant governor, the comptroller, the land
and agriculture commissioners, the attorney general, and the railroad
commission. But Perry has used his appointment power to install
political allies in every state agency, effectively establishing a
Cabinet form of government and making him vastly more powerful than any
of his predecessors. In this regard, the Texas politician he most
resembles is LBJ, who, Robert Caro reports, once told an assistant, “I
do understand power, whatever else may be said about me. I know where to
look for it and how to use it.” Rick Perry, to a tee

328 BWT, if these grades were leaked by a civil servant, I would just like to reiterate my idea about a Uniform Code of Civil Service Justice, like the UCMJ, to punish people like this (including losing their permanent pension) because this is rapidly turning into a 1000 dictators, one mile away arrangement...

BWT, if these grades were leaked by a civil servant

It seems to me really likely that they were, since AM is a state school.

333 Dammit! I am a teacher. I teach people about the bard all day long. As any truly insightful educator can tell you, grades are not a measure of intelligence. Furthermore, I can personally attest to witnessing many a student attain Cs and Ds then spit out a 32 on an ACT test. Leave it to the liberal morons to place such emphasis on grades. Let's face it, libs are more impressed by credentials then actual results. They are so hung up on "the expert" bit, too. In truth, libs are simply tedious morons that played school really, really well, but failed to ever come up with an original idea. They march lock step with their minds through the halls of higher learning, and never truly learn to THINK for themselves. Their positions are oft defended with emotional appeals, false dilemmas, dysphemisms, and anecdotal evidence. As the saying goes, the C students end up being the CEOs.

334 Too many of our politicians are supposed to be brillant yet we find out that their SAT scores were less than average, I believe Gore scored about 900, and that supposed brillant students like Bill Bradley scored 800 and was a Rhodes scholar. I will not bother to mention Bubba, the supposed Rhodes scholar.

Obama is the aFFIRMATIVE ACTION PRESIDENT, AND i HAVE LITTLE DOUBT HIS ACADEMIC RECORD DEMONSTRATES WHY HE IS SUCH A BRILLANT PRESIDENT.

As for Perry, just another Rich kid. For him to have done so poorly doesn't reflect on the school, I mean in the 70s a low grade moron got Bs at Havard and Yale, but on the motivation of Perry.

Just another rich kid whose college grades just didn't matter since mommy and daddy had the connections and standing to assure his future. He is no better or worse than most students in the Ivies or Big Ten.

Don't know where you got your numbers. Al Gore scored a 1355 on his SAT. Since your source for Al Gore was so bad, I wouldn't put much faith in your other numbers either.

336 An SAT score that ends in a 5 sounds like total bullshit to me.
