Thaddeus McCotter Declares for President July 2nd

McCotter caused a stir at the Ames Straw Poll campaign space auction last week when he attempted to anonymously secure a key place for the August event, according to The Iowa Republican.
His representative was eventually forced to reveal her client after the other campaigns, who thought the anonymous bidder was for an undeclared candidate such as ex-Alaska governor Sarah Palin or Texas governor Rick Perry.
McCotter reportedly paid $18,000 for the prime location that ex-Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee occupied during the 2007 Ames Straw Poll.

Many still like Mr. Obama personally but disapprove of his handling of the issues. They are not GOP primary voters, but they are watching the contest. The Republican Party will find it more difficult to gain their support if its nominee adopts a tone that's harshly negative and personally anti-Obama.
The GOP nominee should fiercely challenge Mr. Obama's policies, actions and leadership using the president's own words, but should stay away from questioning his motives, patriotism or character. He will do this to his GOP opponent to try to draw Republicans into the mud pit. They should avoid it.
Obama can't run on his record. All he has is the leftover personal....stuff. Stick to the record.

Lacy, in Michigan a lot of citizens are in unions, stong unions like the UAW, and they are his constiutents. He supports them. This is called representational government. The bailout may not have been the best thing to do for the country, it was the best thing to do for the state of Michigan.

BTW, that is a major reason Romney will have some issues here.

For me, Thaddeus is a lot like Rudy. Very smart. Clearly capable. Strong on defense and not bashful about speaking his mind on issues. Quick on his feet. But, with a few problems on serious, deal-breaker issues.I like them both very much but neither would be my first choice for the Presidency, though I would be comfortable with either as President, since, even though I disagree with them on some serious issues, they are not the types to try and force some crap through Congress on these issues while in office. I've pimped McCotter on this site before, but my doubts arestill considerable. Everyone's all over the pro-union stuff (which is a damn bitter pill) so I'll stay off that one.
He's a Republican Main Street Partnership member- considering that Snowe and Collins are members, perhaps "Maine Street Partnership" would be more appropriate. Lincoln Chafee used to be a member, as was Snarlin' Arlen. I'm not sure if being a Republican Study Committee member washes that off. Kudos are also in order for voting against the bank bailout.
He said in hisUncommon Knowledge interview that he distrusts grand plans imposed from Washington and believes Congressmen should be district-oriented. He blamed much of the spendthrift behavior of the Bush years on having to pay off Congressmen in earmarked pork to compensate for the political capital they were burning back home bysupporting unpopular Washington-basedschemes (e.g. No Child Left Behind, Medicare "reform" etc...).
I love the guy's wit andhis take on national security issues. I want to believe his populist streak could make him an asset with blue collar voters (with whom he also self-identified in the Unc. Knowledge interview - calling himself a Reagan Democrat, if I recall properly).
I'm probably just over-compensating for my earlier man-crush on him here, but I'll need to take a longer look at him operating in the spotlight (and answering questions on some of the above) before I can fully support him again.

McCotter supported the auto bailout. a/k/a The UAW Bailout Bill

McCotter supported Cash for Clunkers.

McCotter voted to require union labor on government contracts.

McCotter voted to override Bush's veto of the 2008 Farm Bill which was among the biggest spending bills in the nation's history until Porkulus came along.

The only reason this guy is a Republican is because the Democrats would be too embarrassed by how far up organized labor's butt this guy has parked his nose to claim him. (apologies to P.J. O'Rourke.)

Even the most infatuated McCotter lovers on this forum can point only to his "wit". Look at the guy's record in the Michigan state senate. Fascinating to see how McCotter is being attacked. Perry is another Texan. Just on that fact alone I won't vote for him. don't really care what he's done, he's another Texan and even though you say there are no bush,rove tires, don't believe any of it. Read a comment on here about McCain/Soros ties. someone asked why this was never discussed during the election. So, if that is true, that puts Miss Sarah out of the picture pretty fast. I kind of wish the poster that made the comment would elaborate. See in this election, character is crucial, past performance is crucial. That's why Rudy Guiliani should get in the race. That's why Michelle Bachman should stay in the race. That's why herman Cain should stay in the race. That's why Rick Santorum should keep talking. If you are looking for your perfect conservative candidate, good for you, but don't expect the independents to vote for them. They may not be so thrilled to vote for the incumbent but if it's the wrong republican, they won't vote, they've done it before, they'll do it again.
Maybe it's just me but people are going to be looking for someone with character and conviction and honesty. They don't want someone too far to the left or too far to the right.
It's interesting. I'm accumulating a long list of folks I would never vote for and the list of who I would vote for keeps getting shorter.
