Chris Christie to Reporter: I'm Not "Confrontational," You Mewling Pussy

Good stuff.

Gov Christie calls S-L columnist thin-skinned for inquiring about his 'confrontational tone'

This flies directly counter to what I was saying earlier about politicians profiting from fudging their positions in order to pander to that segment of the polity who wish to be spared the intellectual and moral burden of making decisions.

Maybe Christie has decided that segment of the population isn't going to rouse itself from its slumber anyway so might as well just speak bluntly.

Will it work? Hey, I've got a some sort of scientific curiosity about stuff. Conventional wisdom says that it's usually the other kind of politician -- slippery, evasive, platitudinous, gray, poll-tested and blow-dried -- that prospers, but who knows. I'm open to contrary evidence.

But these assholes in the media don't believe him. So in that video he finally has to (pretty much) say, "I'm not fucking around. I'm here to govern as the state's governor."

13 Confrontational is one of the MFM's double words.

If a liberal is pushing a policy with aggressive rhetoric, he's being "passionate". Conservatives are "confrontational". Liberals "raise questions", conservatives "attack". Liberals are "concerned", conservatives "raise fears".

One of their key tactics, and I've waited for someone to call them out for years. I kind of wish I lived in the other state that elected a Republican governor in 2009. Although, McDonnell is kind of playing good cop/bad cop with our new AG. Ken makes liberals spew obscenities, can't wait till he runs for Governor.

49 I was just watching this on the Fox web site. Comments are about 95% pro-Christie, with many comments like "Please come help us in Illinois!" and "We need someone like this in Washington (state)."

I think the era of blow-dry, focus group pols is ending. People are paying attention and are not going to put up with obfuscating when we are nearly insolvent. Their children's future is at stake and people are not listening to the excuses. They want action.

Dan Coats was interviewed yesterday and one thing he said he noticed is that when he did town hall meetings in the 90's he would get 10-15 people in the room.

Now every town hall in Indiana ends up with 500-600 people. I was encouraged that he sees the difference and understands that we do not want reaching across the aisle to accomodate the democrats.

Sometimes there is a change in public sentiment which comes very quickly. A good example of this is the difference between public attitudes in 1976, when Carter was elected, and 4 years later, when Reagan became president. I still believe a lot of the attitude change was winning the Gold Medal in Hockey at Lake Placid. It's easy to see the difference....all you have to do is notice that Alan Alda, who was a hot star on MASH, suddenly ended up in character roles, and no one watches MASH reruns. The humor isn't relevant any more.

The people of California would love him. The Democrat controlled legislature and their Republican machine party enablers, not so much.
Out here, we are stuck between the Devil and the 'deep-blue-sea'. The Dems gerrymandered all the districts, with the Republican party's help, so everyone got a safe seat. We are now in a positive feedback loop of spending and we will not stop until there is no money left. Only an outside force could change things here.

53 There is no media double standard. In fact, the media are all really biased in favor of conservatives. It's just that conservatives are so incredibly corrupt, evil, and incompetent that the news just looks biased against them. That's the best the conservative-biased media can manage.

This is why Obama's going to get re-elected by a landslide. Because the media aren't biased, except when he says they are, even though they are, but, like, not.

Dear Governor Christie,

Hi, it's me again: the problem. I just
wanted to let you know that you're tone is setting a bad example for
the children. As adults, we need to show the children how to resolve
issues as adults.

As adults, we don't argue and call names. We
don't act ignorant and bigoted. And we don't lie to advance our agenda.
Children need to see their leaders act responsibly and not play the
blame game. Shouting and acting like a lunatic is no way to govern, Mr
Governor.

When you stand there all fat and blubbery in front of
the microphone and lie about 'taxes' and 'too much spending' and all
that other crap, it sends the wrong signal to the children.

You
wasn't elected to push a Republican agenda or help your white friends.
You were elected to run state services. Stop giving the legislature a
hard time, Governor, and let them do there jobs of making laws. And
stop being mean-spirited to state employees. The people of New Jersey
didn't elect a tyrant, they elected a governor. Try to be a good
governor...for the children.

But seriously, he actually acts a lot like Obama with all the "I Won" and "that's what they sent me here to do" stuff. But the major distinction is that Christie didn't hide his true beliefs from the New Jersey electorate like Obama did to Americans and Christie doesn't try to hide what he believes and wrap himself in a post-partisan cloak because he knows he's not.

Because many property owners were / are still pissed off. And I'm guessing many were also aware of Christie's work in prosecuting scumbag politicians. As if on cue,26douchebags were rounded up a few months before the election. This included the Hoboken Mayor who was in office for all of three weeeks. All for bribery and corruption charges. He called bullshit on the one sided tactics, gave the guy an example of Dems behaving badly, and dared him to treat it in a similar manner. This has to keep happening. 260 Dear Governor Christie,

Hi, it's me again: the problem. I just wanted to let you know that you're tone is setting a bad example for the children. As adults, we need to show the children how to resolve issues as adults.

As adults, we don't argue and call names. We don't act ignorant and bigoted. And we don't lie to advance our agenda. Children need to see their leaders act responsibly and not play the blame game. Shouting and acting like a lunatic is no way to govern, Mr Governor.

When you stand there all fat and blubbery in front of the microphone and lie about 'taxes' and 'too much spending' and all that other crap, it sends the wrong signal to the children.

You wasn't elected to push a Republican agenda or help your white friends. You were elected to run state services. Stop giving the legislature a hard time, Governor, and let them do there jobs of making laws. And stop being mean-spirited to state employees. The people of New Jersey didn't elect a tyrant, they elected a governor. Try to be a good governor...for the children.

Dear Teacher of the Year,

Thank you for taking precious time out of your one-hour coffee break or finger-painting seminar to get a 10 year old with computer skills to sit down and transcribe your letter. It's always good to hear from the citizenry, even the ones who drool.

As for the children, I think they are great, especially in a white wine sauce lightly basted and slow-cooked over a peat-moss fire. Truly an epicurian delight. Perhaps in my next presser, if I'm not too busy bitch-slapping The Times of Trenton reporter with one finger up his nose and the other up his wazoo, I might be inclined to share some of my recipies.

Now get off your lazy fat butt and get back into the classroom.

Love and Kisses,
C.

321 Okay, that's it!

I'm gonna cook this guy two of my famous meatloaves.

I think he would appreciate it.

Usually, I cook one for guests, freeze the other one, cuz' when I make my meatloaf it's an enormous pain in the ass.

(Mostly because growing up, my mom made pretty shitty meatloaf and pork-chops, so I started out teaching myself how to cook on those two items and they have kind of become a specialty.)

But worth it.

I'll also send him along some of the porcini gravy to go with it.

Not that my meatloaf needs any gravy at all, being so succulent and flavory and all but the gravy over a fluffy bed of mashed potatoes really seems to go along with the meatloaf.

He's gonna have to mash his own taters though...

329 Dammit, Deety, I'm coming to your house for dinner. I'll mash the
taters and you can teach me how to make decent meatloaf. (My mom
didn't cook ANYTHING when I was a kid.)

Works for me.

Actually, decent mashed taters is kind of hit or miss with me (Spuds from a box growing up, didn't even know I liked mashed taters until my 20's) so, having a guest who is likely to really appreciate a good meatloaf usually means that they can take care of the mashing part while everything else is getting got hot to the table.

Oh, not to say that my mom was a terrible cook.

Some of the things she made when she got out her "recipe box" were incredible but she was busy working most days and had to keep to a pretty tight budget and also grew up in a different era (Re: Spuds from a box. As the oldest girl-child in a family with 12 kids, I realize now that she must have spent more than her fair share of time mashing actual potatoes. Spuds from a box must have seemed like a technological miracle to her when she was the matriarch of her little family of four. Thus, I was never served "real" mashed potatoes at home. Ever.)

I just got pig-headed when I got my first apartment and figured out that no one could make more dry, tasteless and unappealing meatloaf than the one I grew up on, and yet, people professed to like the stuff.

So, I can't help you in making a decent meatloaf.

I can only teach you how to make an amazing one.

Which, to be honest, 2 or 3 of the ingredients would have been way outside my Mom's food budget, if they were even easily available then, when she was cooking for us kids.

I'm telling you, my offer to cook Gov. Christie some meatloaf is a tribute!

(And those staffers laughing at the reporter, behind him, they can share.)

I find that very heartening.

They are genuinely laughing as if they know this guy.

They are laughing not so much at him putting down the reporter but in an "if only you knew about him" kind of affectionate way.

What I find heartening about this, is that some of those people in the background are the kind of dill-weeds who would have shown up on that podium behind the Governor of NJ, no matter who ended up being elected.

365 As regards the politics:

I think there are times, when a large number get scared that the thing may fail, or a severe hit taken, or realize the falseness of the establishment--then this bluntness is no liability, but an asset, for there will be those in the populace who realize that bluntness is the only way to break through (uninvolved but intelligent people osmose a lot about how politics normally works, and what the "conventional wisdom" is).

This is why those who went to town halls last summer quickly became vociferous themselves, or were so out of the box--they had no faith a humble request to "look at the matter" was going to result in anything but the pols doing exactly what they wanted to do while, behind a lying smile, saying that had "listened".

So, getting back to the implied question--Governor Christie will do just fine, because the people who realize that continuing as before is not an option will beat down the shallow idiots for him. Because they realize they have serious skin in the game now.

The entire liberal ediface needs to be pushed, and pushed hard, and all fronts.

The Gov told the little press wienie that he'd better bring a pair to the next discussion or shut up. The Gov would probably respect a reporter with a pair who stood up and had back at him. Run a generic bio ad about humble beginnings and rich family life. Speak in the same bland often disingenuous tones at appearances. Try not to say anything that might upset someone in a debate. Flood the airways withgeneric attack ads in which both sides make pretty much the same exaggerated claims about the opponent. Is it little wonder that so many people can't discern any substantive differences between candidates when they speak in the same tones and follow the same template?

383 I finally got a chance to watch this. Awesomely awesome!

I think he hit just the right tone. Sometimes when pols go into chiding reporter mode they come off as imperious ("How dare you question me, you prol?!"). Christie came off as a self-confident man who has his priorities straight and knows exactly what the people elected him to do.

I hope he can right the ship in NJ. He sure does seem to have national politics in his future. Frankly, even the weight thing might not hurt him after people become more and more weary of Nanny Obama telling them what to eat, how to exercise, and what tv to watch.

Cornyn isn't tough. He "called out" Limbaugh to play to his base. He risked nothing by his actions, nada, zilch; he changed nothing. And as to being unfit 'cause he won't be invited to foo-foo events inside the beltway (hope you were being sarcastic) the PEOPLE will invite him in if he keeps this up.

Hey, twerps, stop posting the stupid ads for shoes and handbags and trips or we'll sic the governor on ya! Gov. Christie keep throwin' you weight around - its why NJ elected you!
