See, if I were POTUS in this situation? It would be different. You know you're screwed -- Russians punking you, Iranians punking you, frigging Norks punking you; the French (fer the love of Christ!) are doing better than you economically; trying to convince Americans to consume less and save more and drive ugly little cars made by Federally-subsidized union thugs who get way better pensions than you do. You're no way gonna get a second term. So what do you do?
What you do is, you issue the following Presidential proclamation: 1. All citizens will now refer to me as Master, and Rahm as Blaster. And at press conferences, when I yell out, "Who runs Barter Town?" you reply "Master/Blaster runs Barter Town!" 2. Washington, D. C. will be renamed "Barter Town" (see point #1). 3. A giant dome will be constructed on the Mall, and will be dubbed "Thunderdome". A national lottery will be held among amateur demolition-derby, sprint-car, and drag-racing enthusiasts, as well as UFC representatives, to conduct bloody spectacles for my amusement. 4. One virgin per month will be sacrificed on the steps of the Capitol to appease the Dread Cthulhu. (If a virgin over the age of 15 can still be found. If not, we will substitute a baby harp-seal.) This is in keeping with the new State Religion of America: worship of the Old Ones. Cthulhu F'h'tagn! 5. Citizens will not only be allowed to carry high-powered automoatic weapons on their persons at all times; it will be made mandatory. All automobiles will be fitted out with machine-guns, rocket-launchers, flame-throwers, and metal spikes. Federal interstates will become "anything goes" areas where the rule of law is suspended. Cash prizes, gifts, and other incentives will be presented to motorists depending on the numbers of killed/wounded in a given month. 6. As POTUS, I insist on being introduced as "The Ayatollah of Rock and Roll-A!" at the UN. If Iran protests...fuck those bitches. Comparing Obama to Carter is like comparing Stalin to FDR.
And you guys who give Carter shit about the "killer rabbit" should give up on that. Hell, if that was the worst we got from Carter I would be happy. It is a good likelihood that that little episode happened just like he said. If I was out in a pond or lake fishing and a rabbit swam up and tried to get in the boat I may be tempted to grab it and pull it in but that would be a huge mistake. "The 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student said he was walking home from work about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was pulled into an alley and told to lay face down and with a gun to his neck. Four men took his wallet, $16, keys, his cell phone and even a PowerBar wrapper from his pants pockets, he said. But the hostile tone quickly changed when one of the robbers, whom the reservist presumed was the leader, saw an Army ID in the wallet. The robber told the others to return the items and they put most of his belongings on the ground next to him, including the wrapper, the reservist said. "The guy continued to say throughout the situation that he respects what I do and at one point he actually thanked me and he actually apologized," said the reservist, who asked not to be identified Tuesday because the robbers still had his keys." I like (some) disco on the basis that it was the last popular form of dance music played by actual musicians on actual instruments. You can hate on ABBA all you want, but that's a real Fender bass throwing down the groove on "Dancing Queen". Following the link and reading the article, you are exactly right. I was raised a democrat, graduating from high school in 1966. I voted democrat until 1980, when Carter drove me to vote for Reagan. My exact thought on voting for Reagan was "He cannot possibly be worse, and at least he will not embarrass the country and will make good TV appearances." That was my level of political sophistication as a young mother. Imagine how pleased I was that he did such an excellent job! And I have never voted for a democrat again. The democrats now (the sane ones) are feeling exactly like I did. They are disappointed and embarassed (hence the very few Obama bumper stickers seen any more). They are just about ready to move on to the stage I reached during the no-Olympics announcement from Carter, and that is active dislike. I will bet by 2012 they will be in active hatred. I was. It was MISERABLE living through Carter's term, and every time something crappy happened (usually his fault) he would be on TV talking in that Goober Goes Pedantic voice of his, usually acting like it wasn't his fault and that we Americans just had a bad attitude, and that we needed to get with the program and accept being a second-rate nation. Obama will be despised by 60% of the population within another year. Posted by: Miss Marple at November 11, 2009 03:26 PM (UQado) 184

Yep, I remember those days (shudder!). The liberals had pretty much everything locked down. We had National Review, Human Events and Commentary magazines, the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, and that was about it. If the MSM wanted to get a "conservative" on their talking head shows, they would bring on RINO squish Kevin Phillips, who would follow up the Democrat guest bashing the GOP by bashing the GOP some more. You know, we will officially know we are the 70's Redux when we get a fireside chat about our attitude.
I STILL am mad about that, 30 years later! 18% home mortgages, giving away the Panama Canal, killing the Olympics for Americans, no Christmas lights, gas lines, 65 degrees offices in winter, beef shortage, pardoning the draft dodgers, cutting the military budget, gutting the CIA, stupid Amy's advice touted as genius, killer rabbit, drunken oaf brother going to pal around with Ghadaffi, stabbing the Shah in the back, etc. etc. And then he had the nerve to tell us it was all OUR fault for not being willing to accept that we were in a decline and were going to be just like other countries. I never thought the American people could possibly be as stupid as we were in 1972, but apparently a lot of folks were. Mark my words, it's only a matter of time until polyester leisure suits appear. From the AP story:
Now, Obama's approval rating stands at 54 percent, roughly the same as in October That was when Obama's poll numbers were plunging and McCain's were on the rise. That was his lowest point when he started to panic and ... someone... started pulling millions out of the banking system, triggering a crisis. That's the best they can spin this: Obama is doing as badly as he ever has, when he looked like he was going to lose the election. But people still like him, honest!
