In my (notso) humble opinion, that's the source of the frustration and anger for many voters.  The ancillary social services stuff is now perceived as being more important than the armed forces, bridges, road, etc.  Hell, I live in PA, home of the worst roads in the country.  I've said for years that there better be massive corruption going on with PennDot because the money sure as hell isn't making the roads any better.  The tolls recently more than doubled for parts of the turnpike and people flipped out because where the hell is the money going.

Same thing on the federal level, people aren't seeing baseline matters being completed.  Then the voters are supposed to accept that somehow providing job training for hairdressers is more important than, idk, keeping the electrical grid working.  That tends to tick people right the hell off.

When he was attorney general, he went to California gun shows and his minions purchased things like de-militarized (cut so it’s impossible use or repair them) military surplus weapons, loaded a table with them and held a press conference to show “what people could buy” at gun shows. Not mentioning, of course, that the “weapons” were unusable.
