And now a pretend message from Kanye West

So I'm reading all the posts about Roman "If there is grass on the field, play ball" Polanski's legal travails today, and I'm struck by two thoughts. Which is one more than normal for me, and two more than Honest Cloud and Palin Steele normally have. Put together.

My two thoughts are:

1) How long until Polanski plays the Manson card and blames his screwy pre-occupation with 13 year girls on the murder of his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, and their unborn child? You know that Oprah would totally run with this, and I bet some Hollywood jurors (and maybe even noted Washington Post writers like Anne Applebaum) would buy it.

2) What would Kanye West think about this situation? Honestly, isn't this something you always wonder about? If not it's obvious that you, like George Bush, hate black people.

Well, I don't know the answer to the first question. But I have a pretty good idea about what Kanye would say if anyone bothered to ask him. Kanye's possible answer after the jump.

500x_health2093009.jpg

I'm happy for you and I'mma let you finish, Roman, but R. Kelly has the greatest underage sex prosecution of all time. Of. All. Time!

I really didn't have a reason for posting this gag. I just wanted to push the picture of the fat chicks farther down the page. Unlike Ace, at least when I prank y'all I have the decency to put the "image you wish you could unsee" beneath the jump.

By the way: you're welcome.

(edited to reflect the fact that Anne Applebaum works for the Post and not the New York Times. Thanks for puttin' me some knowledge in the comments.)

You're just name dropping to show you've been hanging around.

And btw-Applebaum writes for the Washington Post.

Nice to see you back.

And for the (relative) new comers...Jack M. is not a new co-blogers, he's old. Really old. And no, we're not related. You see I don't have a space after my name and before the M and he...never mind, we're just not related.

52 I wonder if the Hollywood elite would support parole for Charles Manson.  After all Manson is old (only a year younger than Polanski) and he is an artist; just ask Dennis Wilson.  And I'm sure Sharon Tate was not completely innocent the night of the murder.  Polanski may have even forgiven Manson by now and might want the media attention that Manson gets when he is up for parole every few years to just go away.

It's funny you should mention the horse's head from The Godfather.

In the book, Woltz, the movie producer who told-off Tom Hagen with one of the best string of ethnic slurs in cinematic history*, is a kiddie f-er. Woltz, with the mother's approval, rapes a kid in the backseat of his car as a sort of an 'audition' for a  part in his movie.

Not to mention the fact I haven't heard if the U.S. has pledged any aid to the Phillipines which just had that horrendous flooding--1 month's amount of rain in 12 hours.  Usually, we have some navy ships over there helping out with aid.  Well, when I say usually, I mean in administrations past--Bush, even Clinton, Bush.

His friends in Hollywood and the media are already turning this card for him with their constant references to "what he's been through", his "personal tragedy" etc...

Our friends at MSNBC went for the brass ring in interviewing Debra Tate (Sharon's sister) - not to step on someone's in-the-works post, perhaps, but even she starts off her interview with Lauer on MSNBC with "Roman's a brilliant director" "He's a philanthropist, he helps many people...  He's quite a humanitarian.  He's a good guy.  He's brilliant, as well."

Then come the weasel words - she's clearly having difficulty nuancing as she stammers through "He was evaluated not to be a pedophile.  There's as I said, rape, and then there's rape.  It was determined that Roman did not forcibly have sex with this young woman.  It was a consensual matter.  I am a victim's advocate - I know the difference."

Lauer implicitly adopts and ratifies her premise while sounding tough in saying that many men in this country have served time for the "type of rape Roman Polanski committed, statutory rape."  I'm not quoting the rest - to paraphrase, she says the system is broken, money is being spent to pursue cases that shouldn't be pursued, particularly in California, he wouldn't have gotten a fair trial and can't get one now.

Obligatory disclaimer - No one should ever go through what her family did.  As far as I know, she's done a good job in helping to keep the hippy psychos in prison, attending repeated parole hearings.  But...

If she's disputing the accuracy of the victim's testimony, the obvious question is "Were you there ?"

What does she base this claim on - Roman Polanski's word ?  Screenshot or it never happened, Debra.  If we've frog-marched this guy and the victim's not telling the truth, give us some information that doesn't come from Polanski himself.  Otherwise, you're just a woman pleading to keep your brother-in-law out of jail.

BTW He's not a pedophile ?  How old was Kinski again ?

DA Cooley - if they want to play the Manson card, go all in - bring Bugliosi out of retirement.

74 Part Deux:

As for what she was nuancing, I'd guess that:

The "he was evaluated not to be a pedophile" claim means that they determined he wasn't solely attracted to underage girls, therefore didn't meet some psych handbook's definition of "pedophile."

As for "It was determined that Roman did not forcibly have sex with this young woman.  It was a consensual matter." - she's referring to what he pled to, not what happened, with a healthy dose of irrelevant argument from authority re: her being a victim's advocate.  Are you a child-rape victim's advocate, BTW, or are you counting your wholly different experience advocating for victim's rights vis a vis Sharon's murder ?

Otherwise, what evidence did she have access to that would allow her to form an "expert" opinion - outside of Roman Polanski's word ?

Last weekend, I ordered chocolate Ugg Classic Cardy hoping they wouldn't show marks as much as my beige ugg cardy boots and waterproofed them when I first got them. They look so much cleaner than my old beige ugg boots, I wear my Whooga's all year round, they don't make my feet sweat as much as my older pair. I'm very impressed with how they are holding up to my abuse, very well made. My only suggestion to everyone is keep them dry and out of the mud.Ugg Classic Cardy!
