Democrats: You're Stupid, So We're Going to Blame Bush

With President Barack Obama's poll numbers falling to earth, he's decided to embark on a bold new initiative - blaming former President Bush for the country's woes.

Didn't see that coming. Democratic strategists are supporting the president in the only way they know how - engaging in mind-numbing spin:

"I'm not convinced that Obama and his supporters are bashing Bush as much as they are quite rightfully reminding people that our current economic mess and the wars were inherited from the Bush administration," said Democratic strategist Bud Jackson. "It's important to remind people of this because Republicans are now criticizing the Obama administration as if they had no role in how we got here."

Democratic Party strategist Liz Chadderdon said the strategy of blaming the previous team has been effective.

"I think Bush-bashing has been alive and well since '07 and, since it keeps working, why not use it?" she said. "Voters have short memories. The administration needs to remind people that things were way worse over the last four years than in the last six months."

Read that bold section again. You've got to wonder how much cranial fecal impaction it takes for someone to believe that statement. First off, she implies that all of you are idiots who can't remember what life was like three or four years ago. Second, her implication that the current economic conditions are worse than what we 'suffered' under George W. Hooverbush.

Let's look at the facts, shall we?

The unemployment rate went from 5.2% in January 2005 to 7.2% in December 2008. Overall, the average in that time was 5.03% President Obama signed the stimulus package in February of 2009 when the unemployment rate was still at 7.6% He promised the spending would keep the rate from going above 8%. It is now 9.5%, with no signs that it will improve in the near future. The state numbers are even worse.

2.6 million people lost their jobs in 2008. 2 million more have lost jobs since Jan 09.

Obama has repeatedly blamed the high deficits on the Bush administration, but his policies will only increase the nation's debt.

Average GDP
from Jan 05 to Dec 08 was 1.68% In the first quarter of Jan 09, it's -5.5. There has been some moderate growth from the last quarter of Dec 08, but still far below the level warranting the level of hyperbole used by Ms. Chadderdon.

The Obama administration says we have to 'spend money to keep from going bankrupt.' They're basing their faith in spending on the Keynsian multiplier effect, but even Keynes himself warned against combining recovery with economic reform:

...even wise and necessary Reform may, in some respects, impede and complicate Recovery. For it will upset the confidence of the business world and weaken their existing motives to action, before you have had time to put other motives in their place...
Full text of Keynes letter here. Obama's two signature proposals are cap-and-trade and healthcare reform. Neither will help the economy, and in fact, they may actually hurt it.

Had Ms. Chadderdon been less enamored with Bush-bashing and capable of more restraint in her speech, she could have said the first six months of the Obama administration have been better than the last six months of the Bush. Even that would have been something of a stretch, but it would have made her spin a bit more believable.

I say a bit because none of the spinners take into account what Obama's policies will necessitate: higher taxes on the middle class. Candidate Obama may have promised that your taxes wouldn't go up, but remember that every Obama promise comes with an expiration date.

4 For me it's all about control of the house. No one in the dumb ass country seems to remember or even KNOW that the democrats were in complete control of the house and senate as of 2006. Even idiots voting for Obama two years later still somehow thought Republicans and Bush had a monopoly on government. In those two years the country quickly went to shit. I blame Republicans for being too inept to slam this slam dunk. How come the right isn't hammering this home? Dumb f*cks.

9 If Keynes were a cupcake, they've eaten the icing they like off the top and thrown the rest away.

Obama's policies (promises of tax raises, massive debt increases, socializing industries, more entitlements, etc.) have had detrimental effect on the economy across the board.  A pro-growth strategy at the outset would have minimized the damage-- Obama's policies, as shown by Geoff's chart, made things even worse.

If you need an example of how leftists look down their noses at America, this is it. Bashing Bush has no effect anymore and we, as a country, know it. The Vapid One™, Reid, Pelosi and the rest own this economy. The disastrous effects of their War on Prosperity are evident in every economic barometer we see: Unemployment numbers, tax revenue, GDP, the stock market. Pick one, any one.

Our economy can't recover with ass clowns in charge. Nothing will change for the better until Congress gets serious about tax cuts and deregulation.

The silver lining is that when Obama craters, he'll probably take the last shreds of credibility of the media with him.

Oh, and my vote for the trigger that could actually start a tax revolt?  Obama proposes a bail-out for his surrogate mouthpiece media.  If that happens, and looks like becoming law, and you could (and should) see pitchforks and torches.

28 Above all, let's remember that the core reason for this depression is that banks gave home loans to people with lousy credit, which flooded the market with homes, which drove the housing industry down, which made the banks lose money on loans.  Who pressured banks to give those bad loans with the belief that everyone is "entitled" to a home rather than having to earn it?  Bill Clinton.  Barney Frank.  Al Sharpton.  Jesse Jackson.  ACORN.  Who taught ACORN to picket banks, stage sit-downs in bank lobbies, petition the homes of bank managers to give out insoluble loans?  Barack Hussein Obama.

This shit ain't rocket science but if you're raised to be a Democrat then you have the mental range of a Daisy air rifle and a vocabulary that consists of "Bush's Fault."  Like the old saying goes, you're born a liberal but you grow up to be a conservative.

Are the Dems now just taking political advice from old Borscht Belt jokes?

The joke:

A new president is elected. Upon arriving in the Oval Office, he finds two envelopes and a note from the outgoing president. The note says, "In case of emergency, open envelope #1. In case of a second emergency, open #2."

So things go swimmingly along until the new president gets involved in a crisis. So he opens up #1. Inside is a note which simply states: "Blame everything on me."

So the new president starts to blame all his problems on the old administration and its failings. Amazingly, it works. The press eats it up, his poll numbers go up, and crisis goes away.

But then, several months later, right before the election, a second, worse crisis hits. The new president opens #2, expecting some more magic. Instead, he finds a note which simply states: "Prepare two envelopes!"

Incorrect.  The core reason for this depression is that the EVIL GREEDY CAPITALIST banks gave EVIL GREEDY RISK-BASED ADJUSTABLE-RATE home loans to people with lousy credit WHO DESERVED A FAIR SHAKE IN LIFE, AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO HOMEOWNERSHIP AT 4.5% APR.

Banks losing money on loans was a good thing, because it was all evil greedy capitalist profit, until they becamse unsustainable and had the NERVE to fold, rather than simply converting into a not-for-profit home-provider charity...

And repeating it, after my incredulous 'whaaaaaa?'. This is a guy, 56 years old, who just got done with a prime rib dinner with some choice wine (on my dime, of course) during which the topic of conversation was the $750,000 addition he and my sister were in the process of building onto their Van Nuys home. And how much he liked his new Acura MDX. Unbelievable. A wide swath of Americans seem to think we live under some kind of autocracy wherein the President decides everything that happens, makes every law, and sets every budget.  It's absurd, of course, but that seems to be a common way of thinking.  Also, those same folks see immediate problems as having their root in the present - no past history.  I believe that, for once, this will work in our favor.  After all, Clinton got the credit for a "good" economy, even though it was nothing more than his lack of intervention that allowed it to come to be.  So it only makes sense that, in spite of the spin, people will blame BO.  Even if it takes a few more months..

I do worry that if the economy does improve by 2011/12 that he'll be credited, though.  The Republicans better win in the next cycle, and then be willing to take credit if things do get better.  Even if they didn't have a damn thing to do with it.

They might say something like: "How come the guy hired to fix all the problems, the guy who said he knew how to fix all the problems, now spends all of his time blaming the other guy for all the problems? When is he going to start fixing problems?"

When they trot out: "But, nobody knew just how big the problems were!"

They'd say: "Wait: So the guy who told us he could fix all the problems didn't know what he was talking about? He just lied about his ability so as to get elected?"

Start calling him a liar, let his retarded hoards rush to his defense--so that they loudly repeat the claims of Dr. Disaster, reminding everyone just what he said to get elected. They'll have no heart defending his lies, they'll still die for him personally (full of school-girl fantasies) but, the policies are not the personal.

Peel away the policy from the personality--never say the name, just the party.

The silver lining is that when Obama craters, he'll probably take the last shreds of credibility of the media with him.

MSNBC let the chairman of the DNC host a program last night. Olbermann's. That has to be a first for a new network, no?

I consider the Kelo vs New London verdict of July ought-five as the opening salvo.  The ascension of a govenrment overtly capable of appropriating property for its insatiable appetite for tax confiscations signalled to American small business, not privy to the protections of corporate influence, that a tipping point against entrepreneurship had been reached.  Virtually everything else that's unfolded in the political and social realm since then has reinforced the fears of those who have "skin in the game."

It's noteworthy that the Heritage Foundation Index of Economic Freedom has shown a continuing decline for the US (and a rise for our sheep-loving Kiwis in Middle Earth).

104 I'm not surprised the Democrats are running against Bush. They have no ideas that work in the present so they pick a past figure to attack. Bush is known to be unpopular ( although the current regime is doing their damnedest to make him look good by comparison ), so they go after him. It's no shock, they've been running against Herbert Hoover for eighty years. And he's been dead for over 40.

If Bush bashing doesn't work, the Democrats will simply find another distraction. If they ever ran on their ideas, they'd get slaughtered.

As for Di wondering how I put up with their bumf, it meant a lot to my elderly mother that Sis and I were on speaking terms, even though Mom thought Sis was often a wack-job. 133 Again worth mentioning that during the first six years of the Bush administration, the economy was great, with good economic growth, low unemployment, and even a series of record stock market highs.

The economy really didn't start to go south until the last two years of the Bush administration. . .which (by pure coincidence, of course) happens to be when the Democrats took over the Congress.

Remember, ultimately its the Congress that controls the purse-strings, not the President.

Its also worth mentioning that President Bush tried repeatedly to act on Fannie Mae, but was blocked by the Dem-controlled finance committees.

Obama can spin all he likes, but the roots of the current economic mess can be laid right at the feet of the Democrats, who authored the Community Re-investment Act (better known as the "how can we force banks to loan a whole bunch of money to people who can't afford to pay it back act"), blocked subsequent reform, then spent all our yet-unearned money on a trillion-dollar stimulus plan that doesn't help with unemployment, but mostly acts to shuffle money to various Democrat constituencies.

137 >>Obama's two signature proposals are cap-and-trade and healthcare reform. Neither will help the economy and in fact, they may actually hurt it.

Well, to be perfectly clear, there is absolutely NO WAY taxing energy WILL NOT hurt the economy.   Putting a tax on energy is tantamount to putting a tax on EVERYTHING, and we all know that taxes stifle economic growth.

Now you can make the argument that maybe its worth hurting the economy to "save the planet" from greenhouse gases, but that's a different argument.

Its also a losing one, since
a. Man-made global warming is a crock of bullshit, and
b. Even stipulating that CO2 emission hurts the planet, our "capping" it will only mean concomitant increases by China, India, and the rest of the developing world, that isn't going to shoot its own growth in the foot with stupid taxes.

On Obama's healthcare reform, again, there is NO WAY that this WILL NOT increase costs.   There is simply no way to grant "free" health coverage to umpity million Americans who don't currently enjoy it without raising costs.   Perhaps you can offset the costs by decreasing the standard of care for everyone who is paying (which is exactly what all these stupid socialist systems end up doing), but that's not exactly a fair trade.

On first principles, there is no way the Government is going to administer any form of healthcare cheaper than its private sector equivalent, which is constrained by competition and has incentive for efficiency.   It just CAN'T happen.

If Obama got everything he wants, we would be rationing back all these new great benefits before the end of his current term because we would not be able to print or borrow more money by 2012. They're a bunch of inexperienced kids running ruining the government.

145 I'm starting a rumour that W and Cheney were responsible for the first break-in at Gates place, just to set BO up for the misplayed race card. On orders from Karl Rove of course.

Blame Bush!

It really don't matter what these idiots say, the fact of the matter is the Bush did not and could not have caused a recession, nor can Obama be blamed for whats coming up now. The ONLY group which can pass laws which affect either growh or disaster is the US Congress. The only place laws can be generated is the House of Representatives, the Senate can "advise and modify" but it cannot initiate. The only group that can claim RESPONSIBILITY for Government spending is the House, no one else ic, can or will be responsible.

Therefore, during the period January 2001-January 2007 the responsibility for the growth in jobs (and they did) was through reasonable actions of the (predominently) Republican House of that period. In2007 the House became Democratic and went on a spending spree that could have been controlled if Bush had used his veto power. He didn't because he needed fund to fight a war he didn't want in countries he really didn't expect to subdue, but he fought anyway and amazeingly, despite the Democratic House, won in Iraq. No body will win in Afghanistan short of a nuke.

In the 8 years of Bush 295,600people lost their jobs. In the first six months of Obama 3,142,000 have lost their jobs thru June. (BLS data)

I leave it to you to figure who is right. But again, neither Bush nor Obama is responsible, they simply give the useless House of Representatives cover.

Anti-shoes (sometimes called Antishoes) are a style of unisex sheepskin boots lined with wool on the inside and with a tanned outer surface. MBT M.Walk often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Swissmasai have been considered a fashion trend since the early 2000s. The terms MBT Shoes, MBT Lami Brich have been used as generic terms for sheepskin boots in Australia since the 1970s, when they first appeared in advertising and other publications on mbt online .
