Yup.  They will "study it carefully" and make some "prudent changes", and that will be enough to get the "thoughtful moderates" on board and pass a "bipartisan compromise".

This is why it's important to turn up the heat on these guys.  Compromising isn't the way out.

I believe that MJ was diddling little boys. Of course, I do not have proof, just that hunch. Yet still, beyond his own disturbing behaviour, it's disturbing still that he seems to have been no more than a piece of friggin meat to those around him for several decades now.

I mean, good God. Apparently, up until he died, they were still milking him for every red cent they could get out of him.

Big surprise here...AIG was involved in the whole concert mess.

I suppose that's more taxpayer money we'll never see again.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) today awarded $399,939 for two research projects designed to use the science initiatives funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to advance understanding of the impact of science investments.

62 49 They passed this crapntrade, and they're talking about funding to build a facility for green energy research?

Yes.  This is how it works.  Cap-and-trade isn't just a one-time thing.  It has to be an ongoing program - you know, a vote-buying machine.  So when Republicans threaten to get rid of it the Democrats will of course screech that those meanie GOPers are not just going to send us back to the dark, dark days of evil pollution, but also going to take away all those GE jobs.

At some level they really are a lot smarter than us at these things.  I don't think I could ever be so devious and still have scruples.

Really? Does Shep's opinion anything really matter?

VH1 has been playing MJ vids all night and I've flipped over twice and caught a few. Damn. The dude was definitely talented. But now, when I watch some of his moves, the attempt at sex-appeal, I just get creeped out. Smooth Criminal was a pretty sweet vid and all these years later I still wonder whether the 'lean' was real or a special effect.

Then, they played 'Leave Me Alone' and remembered that that was just about the time that I'd had enough of him, and I turned it off.

I've owned Off the Wall in every incarnation, from vinyl to c.d., and still play it when I need a pick me up. The c.d. cover is notable for the fact that the black skin that belonged to Jackson on the original album was cropped completely, leaving only the suit.

102 cw...i got the answer...about 5 or 10 mil of us quit our jobs. We overload welfare, food stamps, unemployment, and gov assisted housing. We completely eliminate ourselves from the asset side of the ledger and land on the debit side. Chaos. Without firing a shot or finding a cell we squeeze these cockholsters and the remaining rich for every tax dollar they can get and they will cry...Uncle!  It would tear the economy to shreds on top of the existing 20 mil already out of work...

Special effect. It's was a standard magicians trick that they modified.

128 a little news here....

By The Associated Press The Associated Press – 9 mins ago

Iran's opposition leader has rejected a partial recount of the recent presidential election and insists the disputed results be nullified.

In a statement on a Mousavi-affiliated Web site Sunday, he also called for independent arbiters in the dispute. Mousavi alleges victory was stolen from him through fraud.

Iran's ruling clergy have declared President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner and ruled out a revote.

Iran's top electoral body, the 12-member Guardian Council, has proposed recounting 10 percent of the votes in the June 12 election. On Friday, the council offered to bring in six more political figures to oversee a partial recount.

However, Mousavi reiterated his demand for nullification as "the most suitable solution to restore public confidence."

129 Iran's top electoral body, the 12-member Guardian Council, has proposed recounting 10 percent of the votes in the June 12 election.

The stupid thing about this is they have already said that even if there is massive fraud in the 10% they won't nullify so why even bother?

GOP urges more spending restraint in programsAfter all the Obama administration's big spending, Republicans urge fiscal restraint By Will Lester, Associated Press Writer On Saturday June 27, 2009, 8:55 pm EDT
By Will Lester, Associated Press Writer On Saturday June 27, 2009, 8:55 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republicans concerned about the Obama administration's big spending on economic stimulus, energy and health care are asking, "Where are the jobs?"

"The president and Democrats in Congress claim this spending binge is necessary to put Americans back to work," House Republican leader John Boehner said Saturday in the Republican radio and Internet address. "They promised unemployment would not rise above 8 percent if their trillion-dollar stimulus was passed.

The administration was wrong, Boehner said. "Unemployment has soared above 9 percent. And now the president admits that unemployment will soon reach double digits.

"After all of this spending, after all of this borrowing from China, the Middle East, our children and our grandchildren, where are the jobs?" he said.

Since President Barack Obama's stimulus plan to trigger job creation was passed, the economy has shed 1.6 million jobs. The administration has focused instead on its estimate that the stimulus has created or saved 150,000 jobs.

That estimate comes from a formula that uses government spending and tax cuts to predict job growth. The formula has been used by Republicans and Democrats alike, but was built to predict, not count jobs. To count jobs, economists traditionally rely on Labor Department data on unemployment, manufacturing and construction activity, and county-by-county, state-by-state job reports.

And all food seem to be shrinking. Same with Kraft Mac & Cheese, used to be able to feed 4 from a box, now two servings, barely, though they still claim it feeds 4. The amount of food in packages shrinks, the price stays the same for a bit, then goes up with the same, smaller amount.

Also, noticed lately how stores like Target don't stock everything anymore. They used to stock every single brand of laundry detergent in every permutation, now they don't.

I think by fall more and more people are going to begin to notice the things we are noticing now. And then I wonder if they'll connect dots, or shrug and accept it. Worse, I wonder if they'll still be blaming Bush.

i hear ya.  CNBC is the worst, except Kudlow.

They were practically celebrating the 9.4% unempl number because it wasnt higher.....and more recently, they said Obama caused the new unempl claims to fall to around 600k (about a 10k fall) one week - and just this week they rose, and not a word on blame.  GE is forcing them to kiss Obama's ass - and Obama's only plan to is have the entire administration lie and hope the "Animal Spirits" book is right.

fucking pathetic.  the Dems just dont get that if you hurt job creation, the economy is fucked.  ERgo, we're fucked.  all the spending int he world wont change that.

The author claims that MJ was really gay and not a pedophile though he definitely like young men. Also he says that MJ was diagnosed with schizophrenia early on and has been on medications for years. Plus of course a ton of narcotics. The schizophrenia kind of makes sense since Michael was about 25 when he started going weird in 1984, and the disease typically strikes in the early to mid twenties.

So basically he had a megahit album then became a mentally ill junkie.

183 TDC...

I really think this country has it's head up it's ass. In 50 years, I honestly don't think I've ever seen it worse. Nor would I be a doom and gloom guy.

Obama is a snake oil salesman, a teacher, a mouthpiece. He is no more substance than nitrogen gas. I am very worried. I think they been spinning wise on numbers, I think this really is a depression, and I think it's time to expatriate. I have been looking at Belize and Ecuador. Got a friend in Ecuador, 30k for two house and ten acres, 40 a mo for a maid with *extras, dude lives like a king on 500 a mo. Spends his days on the beach, fishing and drinking beer. Makes a strong case for moving. Fucker drives back and forth.

Only time tells this srory. peeps still thinking the worst is over. Not sure when we wake up 11 trillion in debt with another 50T in SS and Medicare due and a couple lunatics talking nukes.

Fascinating fucking times...

184 1 US gallon is 3.79 litres. At 1.009 a litre that'd make it 3.82 Can. for a US gallon. At the 4.55 UK gallons per litre it's 4.59 a gallon.

200 Naam, you can always speak into a recorder and then have someone else transcribe your thoughts into a book.  There aren't enough Viet Naam vets writing books.  Kids will want to read about you someday, even if you don't think so.   If you are having trouble selling you house go to the HGTV website, they have a ton of information on how to sell your house.  From baking cinamon cookies just before an open house to paiting everything a real neutral color to cleaning everything personal out of the house.  You are correct about the realtors.  It's a mind game and you have to beat them at their own game.  Sometimes the best strategy is to deliberately really under price your house.  That creates a lot more traffic and then, if you have it fixed according to the people who stage homes (see the HGTV website) then they will start fighting over it and the price will go up to what you really wanted to sell it for.  Also, people don't realize this but you can negotiate your realtor's commission.  You can also have the kind of contract with your realtor with no real strings attached for you.  Pick up a realtor's licensing test book from your state and they will list the kinds of contracts you can have with the realtor.  The one with no strings is the one they never tell you about.  Also, when you have the open house you can have them put all their business cards in a basket and then you can raffle off something dumb that isn't expensive but they are so damned competitive they will want to win your raffle.

Muffy,

It's naan cause my name is Anna.  The only war I ever fought was raising 4 kids born within 4 years of each other, with a hubs who traveled alot on bus, and living 1400 miles from family.

As for the house, before putting it on the market, I refinished the hardwood floors upstairs and down, installed solid oak treds on the stairs, also changed out the cheap painted spindles for  iron on the stairs.  brand new Bland beige paint in almost every room, refinished the kitchen cabinets(they look new) replaced the cooktop in the kitchen so that all the appliances are under 2 years old, replaced laminet with solid granit countertops, weeded my extensive landscaping, fixed the leak in the koi pond, refinished the fucking solid oak frount door 4 times cause it was cold then and the shit polyurithan wouldn't dry, packed up 2 pods worth of crap that we can't get rid of so that the house is nearly empty looking and still no sale.  By the way, when I say I, it means I did it.  The only thing I didn't do was install the granit countertops, but I tore out the old ones and disconnected and reconnected the plumbing under the sink.  I've tried to work at HomeDepot or Lowes, they won't hire me.  and to work as a trim carpenter I would need to learn Spanish and pretend to be an illeagel.

Looks like it's time for the morning shift.

Posted by: Tyron Shoelaces at June 28, 2009 06:49 AM (7+pP9)

238

Good Morning Morons:

Well I did make an attempt to decipher the POS Cap & Tax bill. I downloaded it and spent several hours going through selected parts of it to try to come up with the impact.

Bottom line, as I predicted, this bill is written to make sure that nobody really understands what will happen. It is written such that nothing is really clear and will not be until the EPA gets hold of it and actually writes the regulations that implement it. Like the infamous wetlands definition you can expect those religious zealots at EPA to really come up with some doozies.

The biggest things I can see from the bill are:

1. It revisits old energy issues where the Republicans may have had some influence and further restricts them (commie-fy them).

2. It sets limits on the amount of CO2 that anyone can emit, and yes that includes Joe Six-pack. It sets those limits and issue permits that must be bid on by the people who will use them.  The number of permits goes down at a logarithmic rate over time. This is the “tax portion”.  Much like FCC licenses, the government will issue something that has no value other than the fact that the government mandates that you have it. The permits for Joe Six-pack will be issued to the States to dispense. (Nothing wrong there huh?)

3. 15% of the revenue from sale of the permits will be set aside to 100% offset the increase in energy cost to “low income” people. The bill does not define “low income”. Another socialist program that will never end placed into effect. What will happen 100 years from now. Nobody will be alive who experienced the old cheap energy so why should the parasites who live then be aided in the “off-set” of the price increases? They would have never seen the market price energy markets.

Anyone who makes any kind of a cost prediction on this is lying their ass off. The best you can say is that it will be bad once it goes into play.

My original intent was to try to see if there was some way you could determine if it favored one area over another. In other words people in the South are punished because they rely totally on electricity for heating AND cooling and use a lot of it because of the cooling issue whereas people in the North use mostly fuel oil and very little A/C.   You can not tell from this bill which is impacted worse.

Mostly it looks like the intent of this bill is to raise taxes and drastically reduce the amount of energy use in this country. Other than that, there is no impact and there really is no benefit to the environment.

A long time ago when the idea of energy use reduction came into being I said the fairest way to do that would be to ration energy allotments on a percapita/use basis and keep price the same.

They could never do that because it is too logical and doesn’t allow the Fascist power plays from the ruling junta in DC.

I searched the document for a definition of low income using “pdf search” and could not find one. The reason I was looking particularly in this document is because there are many different definitions in various federal programs.

If Rush found a definition it was most likely not in this document.

Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

He asked, 'What are all those clocks?'

St. Peter answered, 'Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a
Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move.'

'Oh,' said the man, 'whose clock is that?'

'That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that
she never told a lie.'

'Incredible, ' said the man. 'And whose clock is that one?'

St.Peter responded, 'That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have
moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.'

'Where's President Obama's clock?' asked the man.

"Obama's clock is in Jesus' office," said St. Peter. "He's using it as a ceiling fan."

251 Nothing like beer, a riding lawn tractor, and the Peltor Work Tunes with an MP3 player to keep you happy. (Followed by bourbon over ice in the porch rocker).

Or as I like to call it, today.  I'm trying to invent a spring mounted cup holder, so your beer doesnt go flat on the bumpy parts of the lawn.  And they never make cup holders on a mower big enough around to accommodate a beer cozy...

I searched the document for a definition of low income using “pdf search” and could not find one. The reason I was looking particularly in this document is because there are many different definitions in various federal programs.

If Rush found a definition it was most likely not in this document.

Posted by: Vic at June 28, 2009 07:29 AM (5ynkO)

Well, 150% of the poverty level is pretty much the floor of the definition for any state or government entity. For example, HHS that deals with who is covered under SCHIP defines it as 300% over the poverty level. Pretty much covering half the country.

Vic--so there's a pdf of the actual bill as passed?

It doesn’t have the “place holder in it” obviously since they haven’t written that yet but it should have that 300 page POS that they started reading. I got it from the gov web site. It is 947 pp long and titled an “amendment in nature of a substitute” (the entire bill is an amendment to replace the old bill that had some R influence).

here it is if you want to look at it

And they never make cup holders on a mower big enough around to accommodate a beer cozy.

My old one wouldn’t but someone stole it and now my new one does. It doesn’t do much good though because all your beer will shake out of the can/bottle as you drive if you leave it in the holder. I just hold the beer in my hand now.

Hell, it is a lot easier now that I know longer have to drive the thing, hold the beer, AND light a cig at the same time.

As to the 150% of poverty I have seen that in several places as well. Then you have to go find what “poverty” is.  The last I saw that was somewhere around 25K for a family of 2. That number also varies. Hell they even vary if for location.

258 I think I found it:

Energy Refund Program and Entitlements-the Largest Welfare Program in History

The bill provides for the Secretary of HHS, in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture to provide monthly cash payments ("energy stamps") to reimburse certain low-income households for the estimated loss in their purchasing power resulting from H.R. 2454.  The bill establishes uniform national standards of eligibility to ensure that States may "seamlessly" administer the "energy-stamps" program with the Food Stamp program.  The bill establishes eligibility for individuals at 150 percent of poverty, and phased out thereafter.  The energy stamps program would reach approximately 65 million individuals making it a larger program than TANF, food stamps, or even Medicaid.  Despite its massive scope, over 200 million Americans would receive no benefits under this program.

Sorry, I hit post too soon.

Here's the funny line (cuz we already knew she wanted control of O's job).   Yes folks, that says earned.  Bush earned nothing but hate, while Michelle earns nothing but flattery.

Over the past five months Michelle Obama has basked in some of the most flattering reviews ever earned by an American first lady. Yet the first stirrings of discontent are beginning to surface as President Barack Obama’s wife emerges from her newly installed White House vegetable garden in search of a meatier political role.
