| Ann Coulter Delightfully Bitchy Going After Resume-Padding Keith Olbermann, Where It HurtsOh, this is good. This doesn't matter to me all that much, but it sure matters to Keith Olbermann. Status-craving, credential-buffing, resume-padding Keith Olbermann just got kicked in his vanities.I wouldn't mention it, except that Olbermann savages anyone who didn't go to an impressive college. As it happens, he didn't go to an impressive college, either. If you've ever watched any three nights of his show, you know that Olbermann went to Cornell. But he always forgets to mention that he went to the school that offers classes in milking and bovine management. Indeed, Keith is constantly lying about his nonexistent "Ivy League" education, boasting to Playboy magazine, for example: "My Ivy League education taught me how to cut corners, skim books and take an idea and write 15 pages on it, and also how to work all day at the Cornell radio station and never actually go to class." Except Keith didn't go to the Ivy League Cornell; he went to the Old MacDonald Cornell. The real Cornell, the School of Arts and Sciences (average SAT: 1,325; acceptance rate: 1 in 6 applicants), is the only Ivy League school at Cornell and the only one that grants a Bachelor of Arts degree. Keith went to an affiliated state college at Cornell, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (average SAT: about that of pulling guards at the University of South Carolina; acceptance rate: 1 of every 1.01 applicants). Olbermann's incessant lying about having an "Ivy League education" when he went to the non-Ivy League ag school at Cornell would be like a graduate of the Yale locksmithing school boasting about being a "Yale man."There's a lot more, but I've already Comments1
Majored in cocksucking, it appears.

That's beautiful. And check out Pelosi's own web site that explains that she "graduated from Trinity college in 1962".

Keiths affectations remind one of a nefarious villian Bank President in a Fred Astair movie who ends up going to jail for life and hangs himself in his cell. Something Olbermann should have done a long time ago. He thinks vitriol and vilness matter as much as reason and principle because he has none, and can't grasp that anyone else does. Heh. How many times have you heard leftards use "land grant school" as an epithet? Now that is messed up - I am just your average sap sucking moron, but in my limited view that I can see from my back porch; most States have the University, which specializes in pre-law/med, divinity, 'arts', and literature, is hard to get into, and cranks out BA's by the tens of thousands to anyone who will pay out-of-state tuition, and has a mighty fine grad school for law and med; and then there are the land grant schools which teach the hard sciences, and doing strange things to livestock, and anyone who applies can get in, but most wash out if they go for the BS degree. Yet, Olbermann washed out of land grant with a BA. He should have paid for Ivy League and graduated with honors, just like Barrack. Posted by: Druid at March 04, 2009 11:23 PM (D11qf) 53

This is fun and all, but the Ag School is a great school. She throws in a pro forma "now I'm not saying that everyone who went there is a big loser, just KO" paragraph or two, but still, I worry about the collateral damage.
She's right, mostly, about the distinction, but most of the students don't really see it as such a big gap when you're there. There aren't separate dorms or cafeteria systems or anything - it's one campus, and you don't necessarily know who goes to which school (e.g., biology majors can be enrolled in either). Oh well. Can't mock an Olbermann without breaking a few eggs. Posted by: Knemon at March 04, 2009 11:32 PM (Kxm25) 62
In the real world, Ivy League is shit. It only counts among other Ivy League cocksuckers, Beltway butt bandits, and other North East Uber Alles types. When some dingus from Haaahvaaahd tries to swing his nano-dick around these parts, he's usually asked, "Harvard? Hmm, not ringing a fucking bell. Say, how many probes, landers, instrument packages, orbiters, et cetera has that tiny fucking school landed on other planets, moons asteroids or had sent into deep space? 'Cause ASU and UofA have like a hundred between them. You know, those state universities here. Oh wait, Harvard! Yeah, the College of Business there has an accounting program almost as good as NAU's, the third university here in Arizona. OT but Chavez said that "if it weren't for the attack, the lies, manipulation and the exaggeration" of the private media networks, the Venezuelan government would have the support of at least 80 percent of the population. Nice of the White House to be promoting Rush and Cramer. Thanks to the Best and the Brightest assembled by Barack, the audiences for their anti-Obama arguments are getting bigger. While the wizards of this nonsense may be relishing the media buzz they’ve created, Americans aren’t impressed. The braintrust is, however, succeeding in raising Rush’s profile, and presumably, his ability to influence the country. Rush has a point, as those who hold him in contempt are generally folks who never listen to his broadcast. As Democrats expand his prestige, his influence should grow as well. The White House also did it’s best to elevate CNBC pundit Jim Cramer, who has blamed the new administration for failing to provide the leadership that Wall Street is looking for. ...Which means, naturally, that more people will hear Cramer lash out, quite convincingly, about the Obama failures. [I realize probably nobody cares about this, but that's what the scroll bar's for].
"I'm pretty sure she gets the distinction." Oh, of course she does - but people who don't, might come away thinking not just "KO is a pretentious tool" (undeniable), but also, "and apparently the Ag School is a joke" (untrue and regrettable). " I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the feeling isn't mutual. The Cornell students probably see it as a big gap" See, but that's the point. They are both "Cornell students." The Ag school is certainly less selective, and so it makes sense to say it's not "Ivy League" - and it certainly makes it funny that Olbermann keeps flaunting it like it's an Intellectual Merit Badge - but it most definitely *is* Cornell. You live, eat, work out, and drink (mostly drink! Hey, Ithaca gets boring in those long winter months ...) together. There are separate graduation ceremonies, and separate "quads," but they're contiguous campuses, and you can take classes in either school. People who make a big deal about being in the "real" Cornell would be seen as douchebags. Those of you in/from NC mightknow the old "Cheer if you're from Carolina - Moo if y'all f'um State" bumper sticker. That's *not* the dynamic we're talking about. "It's far, far harder to get an engineering degree at a state school than to take a soft social science courses anywhere in the Ivy League." This is absolutely true. What's so neat about Cornell is that, unlike other "elite" schools, it's harder to forget this fact I just quoted, precisely because it's so much bigger (16,000 students or thereabouts, compared to something like 5 or 6 thousand at Yale and Harvard), which in turn is because it's this weird public-private, Ag-Arts, Ivy League/SUNY (State University of New York) hybrid. Hell, you might even have a roommate from the *Hotel * school - now *those* people are weird. Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 12:25 AM (Kxm25) 141

Edited the Michigan Law Review. Started a local chapter of the Federalist Society at the U. Trained at the National Journalism Center. Law clerk for Justice Paco Bowman II at the US Court of Appeals, moved to NYC and specialized in corporate law. Went to work for the Senate Judiciary Committee. Went to work at MSNBC, then CNN, then Fox, wrote first book. That in itself is pretty impressive. "It seems to be a way for NY students to get into Cornell and have a Cornell degree by going through the back door."
No, there's a historical reason why it's like this. Ezra Cornell was this old-ass rich dude with a huge beard and all the right Republican connections in the 1850s and 60s. He already owned a big chunk of land in and around Ithaca, and after the war he got some sweet Olde Fashioned Stimulus (as well as putting up most of his own $) to start a college. From the start it wasn't just an "elite" education, Latin Greek and all that jazz, but also a practical school devoted to scientific farming. I don't know when the institutions split off, but there's always been a (relatively) egalitarian vibe about the place. Where Harvard and Yale have mottos in foreign languages (Latin and Latin & Hebrew, respectively), Cornell's is in English: "I would found an institution where any person could receive instruction in any study." Note that: ANY person - it was racially integrated (at least in theory - don't know when they had their first black student, but there was never a rule against it) from day one. Note again his political affiliation - REPUBLICAN. Cuz that's how the GOP rolled. Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 12:36 AM (Kxm25) 155
(On that last note, I plugged this here a few years back, but it's worth plugging again:
"Ain't You Glad You Joined the Republicans?" by John Calvin Batchelor, is an awesome history of the party, election-by-election. It even makes those interchangeable 19th century dudes-with-big-whiskers interesting, which is no mean feat.) Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 12:38 AM (Kxm25) 156

(Penn's a top school) He was trying to one-up me, a graduate of a very respectable but second-tier law school who also passed a tough bar exam. "was there no snobbery from the BA college types aimed at everyone else's college?" Well, by some people. Sure, there are a few jokes, but anyone who seriously flaunted the difference would be a dick. And of course Ann knows this, she's just having fun at Keith's expense, which is fun to watch. Wm. T. Sherman asked above what's the difference? BA = baccalaureatus artium. "batchelor* of (liberal) arts" BS = baccalaureatus scientiae. "batchelor of (practical) science" Despite its unfortunate initials, there's nothing "BS" about BS [maybe not Keith's major, but in general], if you get my drift, and if anything, it should be MORE respectable. As someone above said, for smarts and skills, I'll take an engineer over a liberal arts type any day. ( *Baccalaureatus literally means "crowned with laurel", which I guess is what ancient nerds did to each other for fun?) (But one more thing - remember, Palin also has a communications degree. The truest statement on this whole thread has been: it's not what degree you have or don't have, it's what you can or can't do with it. Which constitutes a greater benefit to mankind that all of what Ivy Cornell has contributed since the mid-1960s. Posted by: dicentra at March 05, 2009 01:12 AM (HyYBP) 179

It doesn't stop there, though.
Like kbdabear mentioned, a decent number of our "elites" from the past few Months (Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker, Rod Dreher...) actually came from pretty mediocre backgrounds. Kathleen Parker went to FSU and freakin' Converse College. Both fine schools, I'm sure, but . . . she's attacking Palin? Really? When you get down to it, $50 says these people have a chip on their shoulder about their own lack of credentials and, if they can't say they went to an impressive school, can at least try to make up for it by taking school snobbery to a whole new level. That, and if they actually had gone to a top school, they'd know how little it meant. It's someone on the outside looking in (who basically sees all elite schools as a combination of "Dead Poets Society" + "A Beautiful Mind") who will attribute much more to it than is actually there. what a lying hag. I love how she manages to look up stats, dubious and un-cited as as they are, but can't manage similar stats to compare for the other "school" shes ignorantly bashing.
Cornell is a University, and an Ivy league one at that. Like most universities it is made up of multiple colleges or schools. It has 7 total, I believe. The School of Arts & Sciences being among them no more or less than the School of Agriculture and Life is. The fact that it is a partially state funded means only that those who went there paid a lot less to get the same fancy Cornell U. logon on their diploma. It's worth noting that the College of Veterinary Medicine is also a state school and is one of the most prestigious and respected institutions of its type in the world. Clowns to the left of me Jokers to the right Here I am, stuck in the crawlspace with hobos ... "Oh, and by next year, you'll feel completely different about Obama. You're coming around...slowly but surely." Very possible. I'm trying to get in the spirit of the "honeymoon," but that has a limited lifespan. Stuff like the "recovery.gov" logo and the prospect of a truly endless campaign both freaks me out and makes me very, very weary. Sometimes I wish I could just not care about politics - unless I'm going to actually "get in the game," and I'm not, maybe it'd be best to just ignore all this shit. Obama will either muddle through as an unmemorable place-holder, or he'll be a Carteresque disaster, or a liberal Reagan, but there's nothing *I* can do about it. Such Mongoloid snobbery. Just because someone matriculated at the less patrician Aggie program at glorious, storied Cornell does not give the mob a right to mock a genuine alumnus.

RE zzzz: zzzzzzzzzz. The point, you dull tool, is that the part of the "Ivy League College" Olbermann says he went to is NOT prestigious, NOT tough to get into.. O claimed to have graduated from "Ivy League" Cornell. Instead he went to the almost-open-admission Ag school, where he majored in "communications" and could have minored in Hotel Admin, focusing on Ice Cream, Butter and Cheese. That the VM school is very good is a non-sequitur.

"The fact that it is a partially state funded means only that those who

It doesn't JUST mean that. She's right that it's significantly easier to get into, and it's possible to have a much less rigorous education - say, if you are a Communications major. But it's not like it's a shock that KO majored in Communications - he's a broadcaster! What'd you expect - International Relations? Coulter is gilding the lily a bit - at least *within* Cornell, the Ag students consider themselves "Ivy League" (not sure how, say, Harvard students would feel about that) - but her larger point, that KO is a credentialist like no other, while not being exactly Bertrand Russell himself, is a good one. I always say that you can get essentially the same education *anywhere* with a decent library/labs, if you're willing to put effort into it. Also, plenty of successful people (although maybe less these days) decide college isn't for them. Including one Mr. Bill Gates - or H. Ross Perot. If you're going to be an entrepreneur, college/grad school is mostly just networking anyway, so why not go for the gusto and save the 50-200k? Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 01:48 AM (Kxm25) 192

Knemon, you're kinda missing the point here.
Let's change the topic. To me. I went to the U of C because I couldn't get into Yale. Tried, failed. Hoped to take many physics classes along with the econ. Tried, failed. Wasn't smart enough for physics. Just wasn't. My response to this? I tell people I'm a moron, cause I am. Olbermann, who is a fair shade retarded compared to me, pretends otherwise. I'll tell you how one Harvard College grad (me) takes it. As background, Harvard College grads and students can be so snobby that they call Harvard Law a trade school. One of my friends from the Marine Corps graduated from Cornell College, and he was smart, so props on them. But Cornell Ag, as a Communications major, trying to pass it off as "the Ivy Cornell?" Po------seur. To be clear, absolutely NO disrespect to anyone who went (almost) anywhere and actually STUDIED. Posted by: Charles Emerson Winchester IX at March 05, 2009 02:01 AM (B9iSI) 197
"could have minored in Hotel Admin"
The Hotel School is a separate deal, and while it sounds like a joke, it's actually a real, albeit weird, place. It's very small - 824 students, according to Wiki - and its graduates often go on to run the world's fanciest hotels, cruise lines, restaurants, etc. Calling the Ag school "virtually open admissions" is a wild exaggeration. Plenty of people are psyched as hell to get in, and it's one of the country's better state schools. It's just not *as* prestigious or intellectual (whatever that means) or "Ivy" *as* the Arts school. The Vet School is a bit of apples-and-oranges - it is indeed one of the top in its field, but it's a graduate school. The medical school (in NYC, not Ithaca) is also very good, the Engineering programs, both undergrad and grad, are good ... But where KO went is, in fact, the least "prestigious" and "selective" part of the whole university. But that's very relative - these are all good schools. Someone upthread mentioned Alabama. Our daughter was conceived in a motel in Tuscaloosa - at least that's what I like to think (Mrs. Knemon insists it was back home. But I know better. Despite not being one with the womb). Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 02:04 AM (Kxm25) 198
"Knemon, you're kinda missing the point here."
Wouldn't be the first time. "Wasn't smart enough for physics. Just wasn't. Oh man, can I relate. I lasted about a week in physics - in HIGH SCHOOL. Words and dead guys I can do (wait, that came out wrong). Math? Nah. "But Cornell Ag, as a Communications major, trying to pass it off as "the Ivy Cornell?" Po------seur." Right. If/to the extent that Olbermann thinks he's hot intellectual shit because of his degree, he's deluding himself. My smartest friend scraped through UNC-Asheville, and my second-smartest friend never got a degree. I can understand being proud of a Yale or Harvard degree, because they don't hand those out to anyone. But having any portion of your self___ tied up with a (Communications) (Ag School) Cornell degree is sorta sad. Oh, I forgot to mention Cornell's law school, which is also good. Not the absolute best of the best, but nothing to sneeze at. Posted by: Knemon at March 05, 2009 02:10 AM (Kxm25) 199

I don't love Tuscaloosa, it is an o.k. town for a college town, but I was raised in a small town NE of B'ham on the Coosa River. Very nice. Saw something funny on RedEye earlier. Some Democratic lawmaker wants to do away with Barbie dolls. Says they make little girls feel like they can't measure up, or some crap. Gutfeld says they now make a Barbie w/ stick-on tattoos, Bill called it Tramp Stamp Barbie. When Levy comes on for half-time he says something about them needing to do away with the Tattoo Barbie, no little girl needed to end up like Janeane Garafalo. Note to Morons: That is “determine their sex”, not have sex WITH them.

My degree is the tortuous result of many night schools in several states since the main priority was always self-sufficiency first, Corvettes second, and everything else tied for last. It worked. People work for me with advanced degrees from very good schools, not Ivy League, better. They learned material skills and they bring it to the table for the Company every day. It was as if, in the middle of a conversation, he would suddenly recall that you went to state or, worse yet, were attending night school, and his whole attitude would change. Well, one day, they brought in a guy from our 'across the street division' and put the new guy above my old boss. The new guy gathered us in a room to get to know us a bit and it was pretty funny watching everyone around the table try and escalate. When my turn came, I stood up and said "Well, clearly, I'm the flunky in the room. I've only spent the last twenty years building my resume in this industry while attending night school." My old boss was up next and, with a bit of a snit, said "I graduated Pepperdine in...." The new boss asked "What's that?!" Seems the new boss did his post-graduate work at Wharton. Moral: There's always someone who has it worse than you do and There's also someone who can one up you any damn time they get ready. So, don't go there. Hey, I went through a military language school, DLI , considered one of the toughest language schools in the world. We had PROFESSORS from Ivy League schools and the Diplomatic Courier Service sitting in the seats next to us. You paid attention, and kept up with a regular military regimen and still learned foreign languages, Russian and Slavic Languages in my case. Three year technical diploma to wind up going back for a 2 year technical education in polysomnography (sleep studies) and make pretty good money for my study. I have friends with 4 year diplomas who do the same job I do, who can't find jobs for their useless degrees, but just don't like to admit you can be an idiot with or without 4 years at the same school to talk about. I nearly attended the dreaded UNC Asheville referenced above and or Clemson. I live in the western part of North Carolina.
Degrees aren't everything, making good money is more important to me. Glad I didn't by the way. Posted by: enter sandman at March 05, 2009 09:08 PM (zxaA2) 250
And by the way, I meant Ivy League Professors learning languages at DLI, from Native Speakers usually, not teaching there. That kind of impressed how difficult the US military language schools can be. High washout rate, and very little time to stay with the class. I surprised myself by catching on as easily as I did, and every school or class since has been something of a breeze.
And though I can't even stand to hear Olberdouche, I already hate his guts. He's a nutsack. Posted by: enter sandman at March 05, 2009 09:13 PM (zxaA2) 251
