| Noted Tax Evader Wins Confirmation as Top Tax Collector, 60-34Special bonus: The Republicans who voted for him did so, they say, because this guy was as non-lunatic-left as we could hope for. But now he's damaged, and kind of owes Obama and the liberal senators for his job. Thanks to DrewM.Comments1

As a senator votes should be based on your principles. No game playing, no politicing, no trades, no hoping for the best, no scratching anyone's back. You simply vote for or against something BECAUSE IT'S WRONG or because it's right. How is it difficult to do. They only make it complicated when they are worried about covering their ass.
I asked earlier, is being a senator so cushy and lucrative that when doing the right thing puts you in a position to lose your job it's just too much to lose? Posted by: mare at January 26, 2009 07:43 PM (X1fsj) 17
From now on, Geithner should always be referred to as 'Noted tax evader and Treasury Secretary Geithner' or 'Noted tax cheat and Treasury Secretary Geithner'.
Obama should always be referred to as, 'The President who knowingly appointed a tax cheating criminal as treasury secretary'. Use left's playbook against them. Posted by: Tushar at January 26, 2009 07:45 PM (PTWes) 18

Anyway - there's no use in despair. Obama can be beat at his own game. He's going to have over half of the country NOT paying income tax pretty soon - and guess which half YOU'RE going to be in? Hehe. You chumps are fools to just sit there and take it - and let him redistribute YOUR money to crack heads and slacker college communists. It takes some work - but you CAN find those ways to cheat the government out of it's money. You could take a bit of a lesson from our new Treasury Secretary. You could also do other things - open a farcical "carbon credit" scam and take advantage of those tax benefits coming. Buy a solar powered watch and take advantage of alternative energy credits. And when the reparations come - change your race to African American. Might want to do that now. Point being here ... fellow TAX PAYERS ... we now need to find ways to hide and keep our money. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Posted by: HondaV65 at January 26, 2009 07:49 PM (9vlDt) 22

HondaV65,
ever since the Jug-eared One was elected, I have been thinking of ways to reduce my tax burden. How's this for a grand scheme: Let us say we open a charitable foundation whose mandate is to help poor people. Able citizens will be encouraged to offer their skills and time to help the poor. The Charity will try to reward the donors in small ways. Let us assume that I am a plumber. I go to the charity and offer 10 hours of plumbing work to charity. The Charity recognizes this at $50 an hour, and gives me a certificate of charity worth $500. I pledge to do 10 hours of plumbing work for whosoever The Charity wishes. Now, because I have been donating my time instead of earning money, I am a poor person in need of some help from The Charity. The owner of the local grocery also offers $500 worth of food items to The Charity, and offers to donate them to whosoever The Charity wants to help. The Charity 'requests' me to fix the grocer's bathroom, and 'requests' the grocer to give me $500 worth of food. In real life, I would probably work for an accountant, who will donate his services to a doctor, and so on, instead of the grocer and I directly trading with donating to each other. As this is all charity, there is no income, and Uncle Obama does not get his cut. Is such a scheme workable? Posted by: Tushar at January 26, 2009 08:02 PM (PTWes) 35
Did Bush take every opportunity in the first days of his presidency to knock his predecessor?
Was this unusual? Is the Secretary of the Treasury immediately sworn in right after the vote? The prez thanked Carol, the wife, for her service. Is this a new thing? When one spouse serves in government it is considered the other one is serving also? So now, at every election do we have to not only consider the candidate but their spouse? Come on guys lighten up on Obama. Fuck NO! There is but one explanation for the slavish, sycophantic fawning that liberals express toward Obama--only one thing that explains their illogical howling, their servile hero-worship. Lifelong dependents themselves, they erupt in vicarious euphoria at his election, never seeing the irony in their perverted values that make them attack virtue, wallow in self-flagellation, and elevate everything, including the rights of terrorists and even the atmosphere, above the freedom of the individual, FREE American, for which much blood has been shed. The answer is that liberalism is a mental disorder. Liberalism is completely contrary to human nature. It does not work in practice except for a while, and always at the expense of those who actually produce wealth. Obama is a spoiled brat, not a hero, and certainly no gifted speaker or thinker. He's a misfit kid whose parent(s) never told him no. He's propped up by teleprompters, boot-licking MSM talking heads, and propagandists, and he rules by executive order the same way his fellow lawyers legislate through the courts. His style of government resembles Brezhnev's more than Washington's,
and his supporters, no geniuses themselves, suck their thumbs and chant
"Mama!" (oh, I mean, "Obama!"), not realizing that he is already
chipping away at the means of our greatness. May his "reign" be short. Fuck off Obama. Posted by: sickinmass at January 26, 2009 08:44 PM (/i4dU) 70

But the food would be "Payment in kind." Compensation paid in any form is taxable wages (unless specifically excluded, such as expense reimbursements or employee moving expenses). I guess the IRS would have trouble proving that you didn't pay for said food elsewhere. It'd have to be really egregious for the IRS to go after you. @81:
Well, since you opened the door... It is time to do a comparison between two things treasured by men, beer and pussy... A beer is always wet. A pussy needs encouragement. Advantage: Beer. A beer tastes horrible served hot. A pussy tastes better served hot. Advantage: Pussy. Having an ice cold beer makes you satisfied. Having an ice cold pussy makes you Hillary Clinton. Advantage: Beer. Beers have commercials making fun of skunky ones. Pussy does not. advantage: Tie If you get a hair in your teeth consuming pussy, you are not disgusted. Advantage: Pussy 24 beers come in a box. A pussy is a box you can come in. Advantage: Pussy Too much head makes you mad at the person giving you a beer. Advantage: Pussy. If a beer is brewed with yeast, it is still edible. Advantage: Beer. If you come home smelling like beer, your wife may get mad. If you come home smelling like pussy, she will definitely get mad. Advantage: Beer. 6 beers in a night and you better not drive. 6 pussies in a night and you have done all the driving you need. Advantage: Pussy Buy too much beer and you will get fat. Buy too much pussy and you will get poor. Advantage: Tie It is socially acceptable to have a beer in the stands at a football game. You are a legend if you have a pussy in the stands at a football game. Advantage: Pussy If a cop smells beer on your breath, you are going to get a breathalyzer. If a cop smells pussy on your breath, you are going to get a high five. Advantage: Pussy With beer, bigger is better. Advantage: beer. Wearing a condom does not make a beer any less enjoyable. Advantage: beer. Pussy can make you see God. Beer can make you see the porcelain god. Advantage: Pussy If you think all day about the next pussy you will have, you are normal. If you think all day about your next beer, you are an alcoholic. Advantage: Pussy Peeling labels off of beers is fun. Peeling panties off of pussy is more fun. Advantage: Pussy. If you try to snag a beer at work, you get fired. If you try to snag a pussy at work, you get hit with sexual harassment. Advantage: Tie If you suddenly drop a beer, it may break. If you suddenly drop a pussy, it may hunt you down like the dog you are. Advantage: Beer. If you change to another beer, your old brand will gladly have you back. Advantage: Beer. The best pussy you have ever had is not gone once you have enjoyed it. Advantage: Pussy. The worst pussy you have ever had is not gone once you have enjoyed it. Advantage: Beer. Bad beer: Schlitz, PBR, Old Swill. Bad pussy: Roseanne, Janet Reno, Madeline Albright. Advantage: Tie Good beer: Samuel Adams, Moosehead, Pete's Wicked Winter Brew. Good pussy: Almost all but the above. Advantage Pussy. The government taxes beer. Advantage: Pussy. Posted by: CoolCzech at January 26, 2009 09:12 PM (iafWn) 87

WASHINGTON – New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy Geithner
won confirmation Monday as President Barack Obama's treasury secretary
despite personal tax lapses that turned more than a third of the Senate
against him.
Whoopsie! Timmy had a tax lapse. Obama said there had been a "devastating loss of trust and confidence" and that the financial system was in "serious jeopardy." So you put a guy who couldn't be trusted to pay his own taxes in charge. Three Democrats and one independent voted against Geithner's confirmation, including Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., the longest-serving senator in history. "Had he not been nominated for treasury secretary, it's doubtful that he would have ever paid these taxes," Byrd said in a statement. Byrd and the truth? Who would have thunk it? Posted by: TheQuietMan at January 26, 2009 09:14 PM (vQbE+) 89

Geithner is an unforced error. His appointment is now in the book. We can expect Chicago Jesus to make many more, and when he runs again for his "spend term" in 2012, mistakes like Geithner (and Lynn, and DADT) will be easy talking points. As long as the GOP runs a strong candidate (and no, Palin is not a strong candidate), The One's tenure could be one term.
That his first significant decision was the choice of a mentally retarded plagiarist for vice president says everything that needs saying about his judgement. If he smarts up in a year--and doesn't build a legacy of poor decisionmaking--I'll be the most surprised. Posted by: railwriter at January 26, 2009 09:26 PM (XcsD4) 93

Reply #16 Mare, to answer your question: "Sir, there are two passions which which have a powerful influence on men. These are ambition and avarice; the love of power and the love of money. Separately, each of these has great force in prompting men to action; but when united in view of the same object, they have in many minds the most violent effects. Place before the eyes of such men a post of honor, that shall at the same time be a place of profit, and they shall move Heaven and Earth to obtain it." Ben Franklin Short answer to your query, yes. I tend to agree with Alana on this one. My first thought with the confirmation was what must be Obama's terrible disregard for the citizenry. Afterall, he "won". He's like the asshole VP at work who lacks the education, talent, or political finnesse of others at his level and thus chooses to throw his weight around, and against, those lower on the totem pole. Yes. I know. Obama has an ivy league education. Yet, he's acting like a managment trainee who thinks he can run the company after just a few days on the job. Pretty admned arrogant, really, when you consider his lack of experience, and the vast experience of most everyone in D.C. that isn't named Obama. He is a petulant little shit who's simply playing house. Unfortunately, he's doing it in the White House. Posted by: jmflynny at January 26, 2009 09:54 PM (+yrfk) 104

Congress has given the Illinois legislature one more incentive to remove Blago from office as quickly as possible—in an unusual venue: The stimulus bill: None of the funds provided by this Act may be made available to the State of Illinois, or any agency of the State, unless (1) the use of such funds by the State is approved in legislation enacted by the State after the date of the enactment of this Act, or (2) Rod R.
