Son of Hamas Leader Converts to Christianity, Speaks Out Against Hamas

Here's a quote. This is obvious, of course. But more crucially -- the media must dismiss the son of a Hamas leader as being inexpert on Hamas thinking in order to continue their fantasia of Hamas being interested in a roadmap to peace.

JONATHAN HUNT: Do you believe that Israel can ever strike a peace deal with Hamas?

MOSAB HASSAN YOUSEF: There is no chance. Is there any chance for fire to co-exist with the water? There is no chance. Hamas can play politics for 10 years, 15 years; but ask any one of Hamas leaders, Okay, whats going to happen after that? Are you just going to live and co-exist with Israel forever? The answer is going to be no unless they want to do something against the Koran. But its their ideology and they cant just say Were not going to do it. So there is no chance. Its not about Israel, its not about Hamas: its about both ideologies. There is no chance.

Eh, he was in the intifadas all his life. What would he know about Hamas.

The big question is what do Rosa Brooks and Tom Friedman think about Hamas? They're the real experts, after all. They work for newspapers.

Oh, you know all about it, then. I remember when I was writing my paper for school I went to the library at the local Jewish Community Center. Nice folks all around. 96 I remember thinking back when Hamas became the duly elected government of the Gaza strip that the Gazan civilians had just voted themselves onto the Israel's enemies list and that Israel would be reasonably justified in bombing the whole place to rubble and killing them all.  I'm actually quite surprised that Israel hasn't responded more harshly and sooner than they did.  And as far as "proportionate response" goes, I'd say that Israel has still got the kid gloves on compared to what I would consider proportionate--I look at stated goals, where Hamas wants to utterly destroy Israel and kill all her citizens, but the Israelis merely want Hamas to stop attacking them with rockets and shit.  A truly "proportionate" response would be attempted genocide on the Palestinians.  The only reason it looks like Israel is attacking more aggresively than Hamas is that Hamas fucking sucks at war, whereas Israel's pretty good at it.   So Hamas's all-out attack is pathetic and ineffectual, whereas Israel's measured and limited response is imressively deadly.
